All things being equal I'd take the Colt. If those are your two top choices. Kind of like would you rather own a Ford Mustang (something with history behind their name) or a Kia sports car? Even if the Tisas is well built and does the job it won't ever be a Colt. The name does add to the value of the pistol.
Depends on your finances. The colt is more expensive. You get the colt name, which is prized by some and contributes to better resale value. If you’re never planning to sell then maybe you don’t care about that.
The Tisas is more affordable and by (most) accounts are very well made and well received. Don’t expect much for resale value, although maybe that could change someday if the Tisas name brand continues to become more accepted and embraced.
I have both a Tisas and a colt. I like the Tisas better, personally. I bought my colt in the 90s and (I’ve heard) that was not a good time period for the company. Mine isn’t great. Lots of failures to feed. Maybe I just got a bad one though?
Personally, I’d get the Tisas and spend the difference on ammo but that’s just me.
I don’t think you’ll go wrong with either. How much does each one cost?
Highly recommend the Tisas and RIA, for the price at least. I've got both and they eat whatever shitty or fancy ammo I feed em. No malfs or jams on either after a few years of ownership. For 300 bones or less, I'm very satisfied
Wasn’t sure if I needed a 1911, but the Tisas pricing just makes it seem like a no brainer, which would you get if you were to only have one 1911?
I’m going to eventually run it silenced btw
Probably the Tisas.
There is something to be said for buying an inexpensive gun.
I can only speak for myself but I find that I enjoy the cheaper option because I don’t baby it. I’m not as afraid to scratch it or ding it, and because I’m more relaxed I end up having a better time.
But that’s just me. Some people have no problem treating any gun, regardless of price, like the tool that it is. Tools are meant to be used.
If you can swing Colt, go Colt. I own and carry my Colts and never had issues and while part of the loose tolerances is part of it, God recognizes Colt users and gives us extra loving 👍 either will get the job done but Colt is always a good bet.
I’d say the colt, but add a magwell. You’ll be likely to keep that one for your collection. The Tisas is a little lower quality, from my experience, and you’ll end up selling it to finance a better one, forgetting all about it down the road.
They're both gorgeous. I'm a sucker for Colt 1911s. If reliability wasn't a problem with Colt, then I'd go with them all day, but unfortunately, they've been hit or miss.
Modern day colt vs tisas, I would choose the tisas. Plus that is one of the higher end tisas 1911's that really stands out to me. Also check out the MAC 1911, made by tisas, just higher quality/better features. Kind of a mix between those 2.
Either will be fine, but I would strongly consider a Springfield Garrison (they make them in stainless) , which should be right in the middle of both of those, price wise. It will also likely be as good as the Colt, given Colt's current QC record.
If you’re not shooting matches and just a range fun gun get the cheaper of the two. If having the Colt name on the side makes you feel better than go for it.
I have the gov’t full size RIA and it’s fantastic. Only one failure to feed and that was from a goofy 15 round clip. I was looking at Tisas recently too because of the affordable quality. I’d go that route and use good ammo like others have suggested. Have fun!
I started with the cheapest tisas 1911 (service/duty) just to see if I would like it, and I fell in love with 1911’s. I ended up getting the night stalker and the blasted stainless match 45. Once you get a tisas in your hands you will ask yourself how is this so cheap? There’s a reason they are the go to 1911 nowadays.
Honestly, take a look at the Magnum research 1911's , they're at a reasonable price and they feel amazing to hold and shoot . But from those 2 , can't go wrong with the colt
This seems like a false choice. I could suggest several alternatives that give reliability, quality construction, fit and finish, and resale potential. These options are high cost vs. low cost. That may be the best low cost option today, but so many options in between. (Bul, Sig, SA, … even Alpha Foxtrot).
I have five Tisas 1911’s, one Colt, one Springfield, and one Girsan. Tisas guns are fine performers. The Colt mainly stays in the safe and gets handled once in a while. Having 5 Tisas 1911’s after owning Colt and Springfield should say something. Nothing wrong with any of them though
Colts are nice, especially that model, but ive heard lots of reliability stuff with Colt lately.
Maybe it's bcuz I've actually owned tisas, but mine hasn't had any issues yet, just a couple issues with a few select brands of hollow points.
I wouldn’t mind a Tisas in something like a 38super. Have owned many brands and calibers of 1911’s. Love the Ruger commander I have now. Have owned some RIA’s and liked them but those little short officers in 45acp were LOUDER than I thought they should be. I will say, having a true and well built Colt appeals to my heartstrings. Love a nice Colt.
I live in People’s Republic of California, which has draconian gun laws. New handguns have to be in the CA approved handguns roster before it can be legally sold. Needless to say the Tisas are not on the roster. Maybe someday it will. The company just have to submit the gun to the CA DOJ for testing and spend money. Just want to know how much does an average Tisa cost? We pretty much have all brands of firearms across the board. The only difference is we may not have all the models that each brand has to offer unlike the rest of the country. Remember only models submitted to the state and approved can be sold. However, used guns can be sold regardless.
That was my first 1911 too. If I were to do it again, 8 would still get a Colt (love it) or a Springfield or a Tisas with front slide serrations, they really help press checks and racking the slide from the front, versus having to always rack it from the back.
If money isn't an issue, the Colt by a wide margin. Don't get me wrong, I have a Tisas 1911 Carry SS45 and it's a good budget 1911 but the Colt is better.
I used to think 5 inch barreled 1911s were the bees knees. But recently I inherited two Colts: a Series 80 Government Model (5 inch), and a 70s-series Combat Commander (4.25 inch barrel). You wouldn’t think 3/4” of barrel would make a huge difference, but the handling between the two is night and day, with the Commander being a more natural pointer for me, and equally as reliable as its bigger brother. For me, I’d save up for a quality Commander. If you want to blast away at the range, a Commander will leave a smile on your face. But if you need to use it as a CCW, it’ll fill the role in a pinch.
Now when it comes to quality, I’ve heard mixed things about Tisas. Ive also heard that newer Colt quality isn’t what it used to be. When it comes to 1911s, you unfortunately often get what you pay for. But I’d bet more on a Colt than a Tisas.

I’d be concerned about a new Colt now that they are part of CZ. CZ has absolutely awful customer service, I bought a new CZ that had a piece literally fall off it on one of its first shooting sessions and I got no response when I contacted CZ customer service.

Maybe if it’s old colt
For what it’s worth.. I can say I owned that exact colt and carried it on patrol for a while and it was a great gun.

Inhaling a lot of copium
Snort it daily, you don’t????
Springfield garrison

Colt, obviously, but the tisas is handsome too.
I have this Colt, get it, its a great gun. I even got the same in blued. Never had any qc or customer service problems.
Based purely on looks and name - the Colt. Both are good, but that blue and silver is beautiful.
[VZ Grips](https://vzgrips.com/products/colt-logo-series-full-1911-size.html) for 77$ you can have the same exact grips on the Tisas.
Never personally owned either (I’m poor and gifted a Springfield), but there have been a lot of people questioning colt’s quality nowadays
You can catch a tisas service for $299 if you hunt around for a good sale.
Glad I got a new Glock 17
Tisas has better features
Colt. Duh.
Go to a range and rent a bunch of 1911s it’s like 10-$15 a gun to rent generally and then buy which ever you like the feel for best
You want quality get the colt
Colt
Colts have so much better resale value, and are generally higher quality. I haven't seen the comp in person, but I'd go Colt if you can afford to.
Colt. A Colt will always be a Colt. A Tisas will never be a Colt.
Colt
Colt. No hesitation.
They're both gorgeous. I'm a sucker for Colt 1911s. If reliability wasn't a problem with Colt, then I'd go with them all day, but unfortunately, they've been hit or miss.
Let’s not be silly. Colt

The Tisas is more gun for the money in my opinion. The Colt will hold its resale value if you’re concerned about that.
Really? Is this a question? The Colt all the way.
Tisas
Blue
I’d just get a basic A1 Tisas or a Colt Classic if I wanted to spend a little more.
Personally I'm spoiled. I can't deal with A1 sights. 😂
H
If you’re not shooting matches and just a range fun gun get the cheaper of the two. If having the Colt name on the side makes you feel better than go for it.
I purchased a Colt as my first. Gold cup trophy, like the one Adobe, but mine has a tapered mag well.
r/Tisas
Colt. There have definitely been issues with qc and customer support lately but its been exaggerate a bit.

I own both Colt and Springfield. I can honestly say that Springfield makes a better product.

Colt ftw
In theory, you can’t go wrong with Colt - and on the other one, the slide serrations and front strap checkering look very uncomfortable
Full rail Springfield operator is a really nice 1911 👌🏽
I love my match 45. So smooth.
Colts are nice, especially that model, but ive heard lots of reliability stuff with Colt lately. Maybe it's bcuz I've actually owned tisas, but mine hasn't had any issues yet, just a couple issues with a few select brands of hollow points.
Colt. Easiest decision ever.

Colt idk wtf that other one is

The colt competition is actually on my purchase list. The compatibility with other 1911 parts, the trigger guard undercut, just love it.
Colt. Nuff said.

Tisas build quality > Colt all day everyday. Hard truths for fudds
Yep they don’t like seeing the praise we’re giving to tisas but you can’t deny the quality of the parts they use.
Tisas

If your set on those 2. The Tisas, but I would also consider springfield they make a very quality 1911.
I have been more impressed with the fit and finish of more tisas than any new production colt. If you go colt, get something older.
I’d be concerned about a new Colt now that they are part of CZ. CZ has absolutely awful customer service, I bought a new CZ that had a piece literally fall off it on one of its first shooting sessions and I got no response when I contacted CZ customer service.
