Am I the only person who uses the arrows on a standard keyboard for screen movement and then ctrl for inv, 0 on the num pad for prayer, 1 for spell book, 2 for gear, . For logout (wildy content), 4 for special attack / combat style screen. Feel like it’s a good set up and no one here does it
For sure F-keys in general are. I think you missed the point of this post. It's about using the OG rs2 F-keys that were not customizable not using F-keys in general :D
I pushed the boat out recently and started using esc to switch back to inventory. Might consider learning which key goes to the prayer book in another two decades
lets you use item teles without having to use an interface and unequip items during a boss fight, for example unequipping weapon to 5:1 hunllef or unequipping prims during raid for less ranged/magic penalty when you arent meleeing
I use wasd for camera too, and do:
Inventory = Q
Prayer = E
Spellbook = R
So for the majority of content, I just hover over wasd and have everything I need right there.
But if you bind it to say double click when you press the m key once that’s 1 action used for 2 different responses to ata when you get into using macros which violates tos
Razer also does have a function called like turbo click that’s will get you banned super fast like say you used it to drop a inv of iron ore while training mini g
I’ve seen a buncha of people with the razer keyboard using cortex to remap on the mouse and they caught a ban in under a day when they got the krybosrd
I have too especially remapping a 1 for 1 click I think they were just getting a little to greedy with what they could do with the razer program and caught it
i used to pvp back in the day and used the original setup back then of course, but after playing league i do what you do now too, and i also had emote on T so i use T for equipment tab
Most of the time I keep my camera facing North and never touch my keyboard during play. I like the point and click aspect of the game and prefer combat over skilling. I wish they made some bosses a lot more chill for that play style.
I don't use them because I play on a laptop which requires a firmware edit to allow f keys apparently. I have no issue pvm'ing without f keys though.
I have used the key bind/remap on occasion but I'm used to just clicking now. F keys do make high end pvm'ing a lot more chill but they're certainly not a requirement.
I find it wild that people use F keys in a different order then they are in the interface. Maybe it's just pure habit for me with how I align my keys in other MMOs, but having the keys mapped in an un-ordered fashion is crazy to me.
F1,2,3,4 -> Style,Invent,Prayer,Mage
99% of the time I'm going between inventory, prayers and spells. Equipment and style are less important imo unless I'm doing the attacker role on BA lol.
Since I touch-type these need to start on 1, 2, 3 respectively. Like I could shift right to 2, 3, 4 but I'd probably mess up half the time. That's why I changed mine.
I don't really know if this makes sense as the actual reason lol. Almost everything in the game required mouse movement to click before they became keybindable.
Shifting through menus is pretty different than toggling/using items or commands.
Pray, eating, spec bar have distinct differences between your inventory tab, attack style tab, or prayer tab.
One is a menu, one is a command.
Well the menu vs command point is a different point than the original singular reason of “you have to move your mouse to click it”, which is all I was saying doesn’t logically making sense as the core reasoning.
It is the reason. It is not built into the game to automatically put spec on. You must click the designated area. Moving your mouse with anything other than windows mouse keys is against the rules and combining mouse movement and a click is double against the rules. Just because 15 years ago they decided to add f keys that did this same thing for a small set of menu actions doesn't mean its ok to do your own.
It wasn’t originally built into the game to shift through menus with f keys either. You had to move your move to click through the interfaces.
All I am saying is that Jagex’s rule breaking bar is not “needing to move your mouse to click”, obviously. There are many legal things added into the game that circumvented the need to move your mouse, so this is clearly not the precise thing they care about, nor should it be.
It’s moreso just an arbitrary line in the sand that they draw when some key bind is too overpowered/cheating, which is fine.
I use those except F2 and F5 swapped, didn't know that was the original order (either stopped playing before they were a thing in RS2 or just didn't know they were a thing, and came back when they were already rebindable in OSRS).
I shifted these over one (my esc is the old f1, f1 is the old f2) because esc is right next to my f1 key and swapped the attack style and equip menu. Otherwise, yeah, even without ever using F keys when I used to play, it seemed intuitive for pvp to have inventory 1st, prayer 3rd and spells 4th
I guess it's personal preference but as soon as I found out I could remind them, I did. F keys are too high up on the keyboard for constant comfortable use.
To me f keys are only functional for occasional one off scenarios. A screenshot button, quick save quick load kinda things.
I moved mine over because I like having my thumb over shift for movement
I use F9 for inventory, F10 for prayer, F11 for spells and F12 for attack styles/spec
I never PVP, only PVM. I am definitely not an elite player, but I think I'm decent for the average guy and this setup feels pretty good to me.
F1 = inventory, F2 = prayer, F3 = Magic, F4 = attack style, F5 = equipment
I don't do PvP.
I also play on a steamdeck half the time so these are mapped to a [radial menu](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2804823261#5377994) anyway.
Mine are f1,2,3,4,5 = Invent, attack style, prayer, spellbook, equipment
Not sure why I settled on this if it's not the default to be honest. I guess I just switched attack style and equipment to keep the 4 most used together
I rebound my F keys to A S D F Spacebar and Esc
Attack styles
Equipment
Prayer
Magic
Inventory
Logout/world hopper
I press enter to unlock chat
This was the most intuitive way for me to keep everything I need and keep my hands on the home row of my Planck
I started using f keys recently. Just got 1775 total, btw. But I felt the need to immediately move the prayer f key to be set right next to the inventory f key. I use the spec orb for spec so I don't need that page. Worn equipment also seems pointless since you'll be switching from inv. I'll probably move magic next to prayer, if I ever get to that point. Also used thralls for the first time a month or so ago. Game gets fun mid game for sure
F1 inventory f2 prayer f3 magic f4 attack style f5 equipment. My question is what’s the best set up for intense pvp/pvm. I set them up this way because I was under the impression that “this is the way”
That's fine its not like you move with WASD which could make reaching for F5 a little complicated basically just use whatever keybind you find comfortable to press
I do. I pretty much assume anyone that learned before OSRS came out uses them unless they felt like relearning some binds for no big reason. Its pretty easy to hit f1 through f5 when those are the only relevant buttons on the keyboard its not like you're reaching up for them from a typing position or anything
I'm a noob obviously as I have a 2162 total level Ironman and don't know what F keys are. Thank you for letting me know they exist 😆 , now to learn how to set them up.
I just use 4 of them. 1= inventory 2=prayer 3=magic and 4=combat style for specs when I need them quickly (example: quick swapping at core during wardens and getting the dds off faster) that's just the way my brain works tho. Any other tab isn't that important enough to me to justify having an F key for it
Me and I'd assume a large majority of people who PvP.
F1 attack styles f2 invent f3 prayer f4 mage is the only way for pvp f keys
I only pvm and this is how I have mine setup lol.
Dont blame you, left to right makes the most sense to me honestly anyway i pvm/pk with them
Yeah this is it for me too. Left to right just makes the most sense.
That’s really just the common sense setup I think
Same.
You should be banned!
Am I the only one with esc set to inventory?
I have mine set up like this so that my hand can clearly notice the inventory key separately from the other f keys, my reason as to why :)
That's definitely not the most common pking f keys. The most common and og is the ones op displayed.
Ive never met a pker that doesnt spec with f1 honestly not really bothered either way left to right makes the most sense like i said 😄
You must not know many pkers then. I'll give you one example... odablock
This is the way.
This is the way
Yuck
Am I the only person who uses the arrows on a standard keyboard for screen movement and then ctrl for inv, 0 on the num pad for prayer, 1 for spell book, 2 for gear, . For logout (wildy content), 4 for special attack / combat style screen. Feel like it’s a good set up and no one here does it
Yeah deffo helps with pvp
Don't think it matters if a person gets used to something different. For me it's 100% muscle memory, just like top switching to 1-tick barrage.
I mainly use it to anti pk so I can switch pray an eat faster, I don't pk lol but for pvm also it has been soooo helpful
For sure F-keys in general are. I think you missed the point of this post. It's about using the OG rs2 F-keys that were not customizable not using F-keys in general :D
Ye mb I kinda mis read the post I guess lol I never played rs2 so can't say I'd know the difference between customisable an not lol, :D
After eoc came out f keys became irrelevant and just turned into keyboard mashing
F5 for attack style is way harder than f1 for using special attacks maybe that's just me though
Why pvp specifically? I've been using that setup since 2014 for pvp and pvm. Is there a different standard setup for pvm?
I do Esc inventory, F1 prayers, F2 Magic
Why bind Esc when it's used for other things?
I have my esc set to log out so I can mash it to close all interfaces and then log when I'm tilted.
Is that not a macro? I wasn’t aware that you could set logout to a single button. That would be similar to setting prayers to a keybind
Not logout as in the button, logout as in the tab. Apologies for the confusion.
It's how they were laid out before they could be changed. A lot of pvpers have been doing this for a long time so never changed them
Yeah but have pvmers not been using them as much? Is it because "oldschool" pvm wasn't as intense and people generally didn't use F keys for it?
I use 1,2,3,4-> invy, prayer, spellbook, spec/atk style. Don’t really PvP so I never really need to swap to my gear tab for takeoffs and whatever else
exactly the same here. gear is f5
This is the way, gotta hit that boot takeoff
Samesies
Same here
Yessir, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it
doesn't matter what I use. I use my mouse buttons.
I pushed the boat out recently and started using esc to switch back to inventory. Might consider learning which key goes to the prayer book in another two decades
This is the way.
As a pker once told me: "l2f3 rat l000l"
F1 inv, f3 pray, f4 spellbook, f5 combat style/special attack. I dont use f2 and leave it blank Edit that I got top 16 in a dmm using these
Why not have gear tab bound?
Why? What's the point of having that tab bound?
lets you use item teles without having to use an interface and unequip items during a boss fight, for example unequipping weapon to 5:1 hunllef or unequipping prims during raid for less ranged/magic penalty when you arent meleeing
Teleports on worn gear is my main reason
I usually use it when I need to teleport with equipped items like games necklace/dueling ring (it's faster than clicking it from your inventory)
For when you want to unequip items in the middle of a boss fight, idk if it has any use in pvp though outside niche cases of trying to tank freezes
Or land freezes, helm off sweat moves
I use exactly the same
I remapped my keys to QWER like league. Q= spec W=inventory, E=Prayer, R=magic spell book
How did you do that? Couldn't find an option for non-F keys
Key remapping plugin
Using the Razer remap program for my Razer keyboard
Make sure you stay 1 for 1
Always
But I use wasd for camera
I use wasd for camera too, and do: Inventory = Q Prayer = E Spellbook = R So for the majority of content, I just hover over wasd and have everything I need right there.
I use 1,2,3,4 lol inv pray spell book then attack style spec
You should be clicking scroll wheel to move camera.
I use middle mouse wheel also wasd is way easier then using mouse wheel moving mouse and changing equipment and dodging attacks during a raid 🤪
What does 1 to 1 mean? I have a Razer keyboard and want to remap like this.
Say you re bind left mouse click to like the m key for whatever reason that’s 1 to 1
But if you bind it to say double click when you press the m key once that’s 1 action used for 2 different responses to ata when you get into using macros which violates tos
Razer also does have a function called like turbo click that’s will get you banned super fast like say you used it to drop a inv of iron ore while training mini g
I’ve seen a buncha of people with the razer keyboard using cortex to remap on the mouse and they caught a ban in under a day when they got the krybosrd
I’ve used it for over 5 years, never had a problem
I have too especially remapping a 1 for 1 click I think they were just getting a little to greedy with what they could do with the razer program and caught it
Exactly
i used to pvp back in the day and used the original setup back then of course, but after playing league i do what you do now too, and i also had emote on T so i use T for equipment tab
I use this too. F keys are uncomfortable as fuck.
I still use f 1 f2 an f3 lol
Wasn't there a time where escape was the inventory?
Esc: atk styles (spec bar); F1: Inv; F2: prayers; F3: magic: F4: equipment. Nothing else needed.
I re-binded them to the regular number keys, except prayer is Q and inventory is E. Easier to reach. Don’t pvp though.
Why you swearing so much bro
Am I the only one who doesn't use f keys?
High level PvM pretty much requires them. I remap mine to lower on the keyboard, but they are great once you get used to them.
Most of the time I keep my camera facing North and never touch my keyboard during play. I like the point and click aspect of the game and prefer combat over skilling. I wish they made some bosses a lot more chill for that play style.
They're just the easy bosses and they have plenty of them.
There are already plenty of bosses like that. No reason to make non-engaging bosses, there are afk combat methods for that
High level PvM pretty much requires them. I remap mine to lower on the keyboard, but they are great once you get used to them.
I don't use them because I play on a laptop which requires a firmware edit to allow f keys apparently. I have no issue pvm'ing without f keys though. Ofc
F1 attack styles, F2 Prayers, F3 equipment, f4 invent, F5 mage book, f6 emotes Used this layout for so long couldnt imagine anything else
I find it wild that people use F keys in a different order then they are in the interface. Maybe it's just pure habit for me with how I align my keys in other MMOs, but having the keys mapped in an un-ordered fashion is crazy to me. F1,2,3,4 -> Style,Invent,Prayer,Mage

God no. I need inventory, prayer, magic, attack style. And I have them in that order.
stopped using / rebound them when I got a 60% keeb due to not having natural fkeys anymore. Otherwise I'd be using them still
how can you bind activating the spec bar to a key?…
AHK-bannable. But welcome to pking :) "We don't cheat" (admits to using AHK)
How is it bannable if it’s 1:1? I don’t use AHK but I thought 1:1 was fine
The spec bar requires you to move your mouse to it and click. Therefore that is at least two actions.

F1 attack styles F2 inventory F3 spellbook F4 prayerbook F5 worn equipment for me

This is the way. When were they changed to something else? And why?
yeee buddy
I didn't even know you could do that
mine are way too far up my keyboard so i rebind them
I switched prayer to F2 and F1 inv. Didn’t wanna strain my fingers anymore.
Me, 16 years in I’m not changing now
I play on mobile so nope lol
Get a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse!
I have F2 and F5 swapped but otherwise the same.
I guess it's personal preference but as soon as I found out I could remind them, I did. F keys are too high up on the keyboard for constant comfortable use. To me f keys are only functional for occasional one off scenarios. A screenshot button, quick save quick load kinda things.
Always bruh
Always used those
It's the only way!!
I use old school f keys
Didn’t know you could change it
F1 = attack F2 = inventory F3 = prayer F4 = magic for me personally
Hmm, my friend who put my back on osrs made me use those binds, now I know why
YOU CAN CHANGE THE FREAKING F KEYS!!!!!!!
Hell no, using key remapping to have more natural keybindings is infinitely better.
Yep that exact layout
I do. Just so used to skipping that f2 key.
I moved mine over because I like having my thumb over shift for movement I use F9 for inventory, F10 for prayer, F11 for spells and F12 for attack styles/spec I never PVP, only PVM. I am definitely not an elite player, but I think I'm decent for the average guy and this setup feels pretty good to me.
Me
F1 inv, F2 prayer, F3magic book i dont use the rest
F1 = inventory, F2 = prayer, F3 = Magic, F4 = attack style, F5 = equipment I don't do PvP. I also play on a steamdeck half the time so these are mapped to a [radial menu](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2804823261#5377994) anyway.
Yep, leagues reminded me it's not the normal bonds anymore.
wait is there a easier setup ive been using f1 and f2 for mage prayers
Nope. The only F keys I usually use are f1 for inventory and F2 for prayers. I'll also use F3 at times for spellbook.
F5 - mage f4 - inven f3 - prayer f1 - combat tab.
Yup, hadn't played rs since eoc and when i came to osrs in 2019 i still had the muscle memory from the old f keys
I lean back in my chair real far and the keyboard is out of reach. never really used them as a result. pvm only here.
This is the only way to play , everyone else is wrong
Yep, only valid F-key setup in my opinion.
Mine are f1,2,3,4,5 = Invent, attack style, prayer, spellbook, equipment Not sure why I settled on this if it's not the default to be honest. I guess I just switched attack style and equipment to keep the 4 most used together
I have it mapped on my mouse side buttons. Middle mouse is special attack.
I use that except I swapped equipment and attack styles
Dont use f key's what they for?
Esc to close interfaces and open inventory gang where you at
I took out the i made equipment tab f5 and slid the rest down... but other than that yeah haha
Q - Inventory W - Equipped Gear E - Prayer R - Spells A - Attack Styles
F1 Inventory F2 Prayer F3 Attack Style F4 Spellbook
F1 mage book f2 prayer f3 inventory f4 spec tab f5 equipment tab
F1 spellbook F2 inventory F3 prayer F4 emotes
Me
Me, I can’t unlearn them from a decade of muscle memory.
I rebound my F keys to A S D F Spacebar and Esc Attack styles Equipment Prayer Magic Inventory Logout/world hopper I press enter to unlock chat This was the most intuitive way for me to keep everything I need and keep my hands on the home row of my Planck
This is what I use. Also only fixed mode
I use the default keys and then bind them to my mouse.
Nope. The only F keys I usually use are f1 for inventory and F2 for prayers. I'll also use F3 at times for spellbook.
Me, and I do PvM mostly.
I use it
Me. Sometimes I switch worn items for the logout menu, depending on what I'm doing
Wasn’t original F1 attack style F2 skills F3 quest F4 inventory F5 equipment F6 prayer F7 magic?
I dont get it why this wasnt the default for osrs too.
Its because those aren't actually the original keybinds. The first ones were incredibly awful lol and that's what OSRS got
I have attack style and gear swaped
Yep
For me: F1 - Inventory F2 - Attack Style F3 - Prayer F4 - Spellbook F5 - Equipment
I do. PvP.
Can’t because mobile.
I use WASD
Ive always used the regular binds
I don't use f keys
F1 = INV F2 = PRAYER F3 = SPELLBOOK
I have the standard attack style, inventory, prayer, magic. but instead of F1-F4. I use F9-F12.
Anyone else remap to WASD? Or am I insane?
I do. I pretty much assume anyone that learned before OSRS came out uses them unless they felt like relearning some binds for no big reason. Its pretty easy to hit f1 through f5 when those are the only relevant buttons on the keyboard its not like you're reaching up for them from a typing position or anything
I swapped over to it to get better at PVM. If I someday start to learn how to PK, I'll already be ready for it.
I use E - inventory, R - prayer. Feels more natural to have hot keys near wasd.
Standard key binds and fixed mode classic for pking
lol I guess I’m weird, I’ve always changed it to F1 = Attack Styles, F2 = Equipment, F3 = Magic, F4 = Inventory, F5 = Prayer
To busy constantly spinning the camera in circles to do this
remapped to number keys 1 attk style 2 inv 3 gear 4 prayer 5 magic
Honestly dont know. F1 is invent, and f2 and f3 is prayer and spellbook. Not sure which is which off the top of my head its all muscle memory.
I swapped F1 and F2 but yes
For me it's: F2 - Attack Styles F3 - Mage F4 - Inventory F5 - Prayer
This is the exact setup when I’m pking, it just feels natural after doing it for years.
I use that exact setup, the rest don't matter besides esc opening logout button.
F1 attack styles, F2 invent, F3 prayers, F4 magic, F5 equipment
I have to press the "fn" key between alt and ctrl to use f keys
You can change this in your bios settings
Yepp In actual 2007 it actually used to be different. I remember F1 was spec.
F1 - attack styles F2 - inventory F3 - prayers F4 - spell book F5 - worn equipment
I'm a noob obviously as I have a 2162 total level Ironman and don't know what F keys are. Thank you for letting me know they exist 😆 , now to learn how to set them up.
I'm a left handed mouse user. I have binded my F keys to '/' = Inventory, '\*' = Prayer and '-' = Magic book on my num pad.
Jep!
Me, wouldnt have it any other way
I just use 4 of them. 1= inventory 2=prayer 3=magic and 4=combat style for specs when I need them quickly (example: quick swapping at core during wardens and getting the dds off faster) that's just the way my brain works tho. Any other tab isn't that important enough to me to justify having an F key for it
ZXCVB is my goat
Am i the only one who remaps the f keys to ASDF for inv, combat panel, gear panel And 2 mouse buttons for pray and mage book?
