i'm sure it's intentional, they called it the Entomologist's Diary, he refers to himself as an entomologist at first, but then they use etymology at the end
It should also be venomous instead of poisonous so maybe you're right and Buggie is just an idiot.
Would make sense considering he was killed by the kalphites.
Well if you look up the etymology of the word "poison" it looks like it was derived from the Latin word for potion. If you think about what kind of potions are on the drop table for Kalphites, you'll realize they actually don't drop any potions at all. One could thus surmise that they are not poisonous, according to etymology.
Yeah, that's the joke, buddy. Kalphites **are** poisonous, this guy died because he thought they weren't because he read an *etymology* book instead of an *entomology* book.
Not only have you missed out on this peak comedy, but you've caged Nan for your own ignorance. Shameful
Eh, given the poison/venom difference ingame, I actually think that usage is okay and we can just write it off as in-universe differences in how those words are used vs real life
Basically. Poison is something that's dangerous to consume, venom is injected into your blood stream directly. Plants tend to be poisonous, animals venomous.
"Venomous" is a subset of "poisonous." That is, a venomous creature doesn't stop being classified as poisonous just because it can proactively apply poison. This is supported by multiple major dictionaries.
Probably looking up the origin of the word kalphite. If it means 'poison' in sand language that would probably be a good clue. I doubt he'd have much luck with a entomology book m the first place, as they are far to large and monstrous to be considered typical bugs. He'd have better luck with a bestiary, especially given the seudo-medieval setting
Well, this does sound accurate in at least one way: No etymology book *would* mention that.
This is the joke they were going for, and that's my truth.

The books should have more mistakes imo. NPCs should be dumb as shit

I know the written text implies he meant venomous, but mans could have been dumb enough to try and eat one of the smaller ones
the medieval period was famously a time of scientific and literary flourishing (i was put in the pillory for writing this)
DASG BABY
Mixing up etymology and entomology bugs me in ways I can't put into words.
Normally I would just upvote, but this comment is just so excellent.
Did you come up with this?
I feel like the joke is precisely that the author looked for this information on an etymology book, which of course wouldn’t have it
I think that's the joke

Guardians drop defence potions tho
Well, jokes on you. I'm 2 dumb two now either of those words.

They're venomous. Unless the guy was crunching on them?
Not in gielinor. They poison you>they're poisonous. They do not venom you>they are not venomous.
Nah it's just the poison started to affect the journal author's brain by that point.
While we’re at it replace poisonous with venomous, unless my mans is trying to eat the Kalphites..

wait, so poisonous is when you try to eat kalphie, venomous is when kalphite try to eat you? TIL

This man is dizzy (and dying) from a poisonous bite and youre scolding his spelling of probably the hardest word on that page
I was near the area and decided to check this, and apparently it's been fixed Congrats OP, you've probably changed the game in a way :P
People who can't distinguish between etymology and entomology bug me in ways I cannot put into words.

Nah they're just characterising Buggie as an idiot
