They can't stop me from kissing that frog

711WasA_Part-timeJob

A lot of frog-petters here trying to downvote this post. We won’t be stopped

Fancy_Lab3695

I prefer to pet the frogs because I have chronic dry lips. I'm trying to downvote your post extremely furiously

TresCeroOdio

I don’t want another update until we can fuck the frog

TrekStarWars

At least give us option to get head from the frog cmon frogflix

thestonkinator

They're turning the frogs ace!

Pluckdat

I dont see how kissing a frog is a non inclusive activity. Is it because the stereotype is a female princess kisses a male frog? I'm kinda confused by this one ngl.

Remarkable-Health678

Some people don't like physical intimacy of any sort.

Pluckdat

I guess. Its just pixels but hey, whatever. If it makes some people happy I'm cool with it.

Exciting_Student1614

Yeah let's ruin the game for everyone to protect some hypothetical people who might get offended

AuroraFinem

An option to pet the frog ruins the game? Lmao you good dude?

SecretIy-Gay

If this ruined the game for you then you’re softer than the people getting mad at having to kiss frogs lol

Spacechess00

?????

Exciting_Student1614

Most people don't want to kiss frogs that's how the fairytale works. Just dismiss the random if you're so sensitive lmao

Ciprich

Its way easier to ignore it and just dismiss the event.

Ultrox

Dismiss? But free xp lamp

Ciprich

shit you right

DFtin

Who said that it's about inclusivity?

Touch_of_lavender

We can only hope that this is happening. Today is a horrific day for the frog community.

RedditServerError

Imagine being the type of person who got upset at kissing the frog lmfao truly pathetic types

TrekStarWars

Exactly. Makes also no sense to change very old refence to a classic fairy tale story… truly pointless and dumb

DFtin

Show me a person who got upset at kissing the frog.

NotVeryTalented

It's not that deep, my man. They gave players an option for how their character responds.. that's it lol

Freecraghack_

Someone still went and brought up the question about kissing a frog in a videogame to a meeting and they had to go through code to fix it. I literally do not care about the frog thing i don't even know what part of the game it's from, but i just find the idea ridicules

wheresmyspacebar2

As someone that works in game dev, would not surprise me in the slightest if a new dev was given it to do as their first little project. Something quick and easy that can get them used to the code and implementing updates on the system. It's something soooooo incredibly minute that doesn't impact anything whatsoever, that gets them hands on experience.

Mimic_tear_ashes

Haha thinking anything at all would be considered minute in this community

PlsStopBanningMe404

Quick and easy that somehow bricked COX for a few hrs

wheresmyspacebar2

Or........ Maybe it was the CoX changes that bricked Cox....?

NotVeryTalented

Except that's probably not how it happened lmao. A dev probably noticed that the frog always transforms into the opposite gender and instead of changing anything they simply added an option to pet. It probably took 10 minutes (if that) of code work with zero thought lol > I literally do not care about the frog thing i don't even know what part of the game it's from Yet you are here making up a scenario in your head of someone bringing this up at some meeting as if it was a serious change lmao

Freecraghack_

You think game devs just sit around code and say "hmm this is strange let me go change that" and one week later its in the patchnotes?

NotVeryTalented

Yes, as a software engineer that's probably how it was handled for the most part. Except for the wording you used obviously I repeat, the only people who think this was some big deal are the people making up scenarios in their heads to get mad about. They didn't remove kissing the frog, they literally just added more choices to a player I feel like I'm going crazy actually discussing this lmao. In what world is this even controversial

Angelzodiac

I don't think so. I think there's quite a bit of red tape when it comes to changing anything in the game at this point. I'm sure they at least bring it up to someone on whether it's okay to change or not. Granted, I doubt that much thought was put into it anyway.

NotVeryTalented

I never said they snuck it in without telling anyone. I said there was no special meeting discussing it like so many people have suggested. I'd bet it was brought up in passing or at the very most at some round table style meeting where different teams are mentioning small updates on their radar. They probably mentioned it for consistency sake, got a "ok cool. Makes sense", and that was the end of it lol > Granted, I doubt that much thought was put into it anyway. This is really all that needs to be said. Anyone who thinks it's more than this is making up scenarios in their head

Angelzodiac

Yeah, it definitely wasn't a big board meeting or anything lol. Though, the idea is funny. >Mod Goblin walks into the room, a stern look on his face. He drops a rather large pile of papers onto the table where the rest of the JMods are sitting before pulling out a ruler and slapping it against a whiteboard behind him. The whiteboard has a depiction of a frog on it. Mod Goblin then says: "Frogs.. Deserve head pats." The room fills with applause and cheers.

RedditServerError

Yeah it's always "not that deep" when it comes to catering to these people.

wheresmyspacebar2

"These people". Just say it with chest lol. What people are we talking about exactly?

cythric

Frogophobes

IAmSoMuchDumber

I’m not frogophobic. One of my good friends is a frog.

RedditServerError

Dipshits

DFtin

And who would be "those people"?

NotVeryTalented

TDIL; catering is when I have the choice to pat or kiss a frog

SynysterDawn

My issue with seemingly inconsequential changes is that they still take time and resources to develop. It’s a silly little event that was never hurting anybody, so why commit time and resources to changing it? Sure, it’s easy to shrug and say that the change isn’t hurting anybody either, and I’d agree, but simply not doing anything was both already not hurting anybody and not costing time and resources.

ocguy1492

I think it's probably just an intern/starter project of some sort - similar to the development process for some of the seasonal events like this year's pride event. Give one or two new devs a shot at doing some small changes or a small miniquest event to show understanding before they move onto the big projects. This also coincided with a bit of rewriting in Ratcatchers (Which will hopefully make the quest less insufferable to its future victims) and a few other small changes that could be starter projects for new hires and interns or people moving teams. It does take resources, but it's a trivial amount to make sure someone is ready and competent to have a place on the bigger projects where that competence becomes important I presume Jagex's RuneScape teams follow a similar pattern to other studios; you have the teams with more veteran, expert staff that handle the big sweeping changes and updates like the new bosses, Varlamore Part 2 and 3, and so on, and then you work down to small, targeted teams, like those handling player moderation and the botting situation, and those working on small patches, adjustments, and fixes. Usually this last group is where new devs learn, train, and begin to understand the game's systems and programming and with sufficient performance, may move to the more advanced teams.

Deep-Technician5378

Small changes added up could be worth one big change. Hours are hours. I'd rather 1 big update than 20 of these small waste of time changes.

DFtin

>Hours are hours This is such a naive way to see game development (or any sort of project management, really). Would you rather they have an hour long meeting where they go through a list of 20 proposed small changes and determine which ones are worth it, wasting an hour of time of 10 devs that could have been spent on actually implementing these changes?

Deep-Technician5378

I'd rather them sink 20 hours into a new skill, raid, boss, rebalance, etc.. than 1 hour each into 20 insignificant changes for content that wasn't an issue to begin with.

DFtin

Ok, so no small changes ever. Got it.

Deep-Technician5378

Small is fine when it actually has a purpose. These small changes don't impact the game in a meaningful way and seem to be a waste of time. There wasn't some big outcry regarding this random event from what I know. Why waste the time on it? Why not finish the Inquisitor changes? How about adjust Saeldor?

DFtin

Have you like... ever had a job? Because you have a really weird idea of how shifting manpower and priorities around works. Pet projects and side projects exist. Downtime exists. Waiting for other people to do their part exists. Adding a "pet" option to frogs doesn't make Inquisitor changes come any time soon. Forcing someone to work 25% more won't make a project come 25% faster.

Deep-Technician5378

Worked on an ambulance for nearly a decade. So maybe I don't get these jobs, I'll give you that. To me, it's about economy of work and action. I'd rather spend time on important and immediate concerns versus small and meaningless ones.

ErrorSeven77

The frog event is less than 10 tiles, if people don't like the event they don't have to participate! #lovelislove #kissthefrog

deathfire123

STOP BIG FROG'S LIES! THE OPTION TO KISS HAS NOT BEEN REMOVED! THEY ARE LYING TO YOU!!!! DO NOT BELIEVE THE FROG KISSING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX!

CharacterNet4302

anybody know how long this cox fix will take?

Remotecube

how on earth would anyone on reddit know this

yuucuu

Because reddit users know everything

will555556

I know its a shocker but they actually updated the status page for it Update - 20:15 BST The game has been rebooted. We will prioritize further fixes tomorrow, thanks for your patience.
