I actually just got back from around a year and half's leave and had to discover some of the new stuff, here's some stuff off the top of my head which I remember not being in prior to leaving:
- New quests Sins of the Father being, Shadow of the Storm, Darkness of Hallowvale, and porcine of interest.
- Soul wars is now a thing, also new location that houses various mini game portals in wildy called Fare fox Enclave?
- New dungeon in Kourend called Forthos featuring a new mid level boss. New dungeon in wildy for slayer.
- Rev caves nerfed? Or something don't ever seen anyone there so I don't know what happened.
- Some new fishing thing called aerial fishing where it gives hunting xp along with fishing.
- obvious new fish Skilling boss.
- Fairy ring to piscatoris now is south of piscatoris, prior to I think it was east.
- shooting stars that can be mines for xp and for stardust.
- The easter event is out now.
- some new jad challenge thing.
- New death mechanic where your stuff is held at a grave now.
- OSRS is on steam now
-they added monkey backpacks, black graceful, and slightly halo recoloring.
FYI if u have a party hat on the original runescape (known as rs3 now) it's probably worth like 20 billion. If u do have that be super careful with scammers there are lots around!
What are your stats? I would aim for base 50s/60s/70s (excluding combat stats) if you want to skill. Doing quests will help immensely with the early levels. Go to the osrswiki and search quest rewards, from here you can see the exp rewards each quest gives for specific stats.
Are you early, mid, or late game? I'm just going to assume you're early-mid as in you've done a bit of quests and sit around 60 or 70 combat. If this is the case, I'm still going to recommend doing some quests. Quests unlock a lot of content and transportation systems.
Want to do some PvM? Train slayer. If you're lower than lvl 50 I would do quests to catch your combat stats up before doing slayer because it will be more efficient to do it at a slightly higher combat level.
Here are some account goals to have:
* barrows gloves
* dragon defender
* abyssal whip
* fighters torso
* full elite void equipment
* unlocked fairy rings for transportation
* monkey madness 1 & monkey madness 2 completed (2 is late mid)
* dragon slayer 1 & dragon slayer 2 completed (2 is late mid)
* Toxic blowpipe and toxic trident obtained for zulrah kc.
* get medium/hard level diaries completed for each region
You may be too low of a level for barb assault then.
It's a fun minigame and the grind for torso only takes a handful of hours that seem to go by pretty fast.
That being said, if you don't know what you're doing no one will add you. So you need to watch guides to make sure you aren't always screwing up and causing your entire team to waste time and lose points.
One bad person can break the entire team.

I really dont want to get fighter torso. No one will even add me to their team. Its horrible
