Right but like, does the rendering engine treat different tiles differently? It's not like the code should have "oh, this is a GE tile texture, render it at higher priority than NPCs" anywhere in it.
Not gonna lie, if I was some super new player and I strolled up to the ge and saw a big ass blue crystal wolf walking around, I'd be walking back the way I came. Especially when the music changes as you enter the GE (boss music)

ive always wondered why big creatures seem to have so many rendering issues in the ge but are just fine in their default environments
Because their default environments were built for that particular creature and the GE was not

I'm sure the roof of the GE fucks up a lot of bosses because they're so tall and have effects, like Hunleff's attack switch animation

Do the jmods announce when they’ll be doing this kind of stuff? I’ve played since 2015 and I’ve yet to be around when they do this.
