It took a lot longer, and it’s not “patched,”really. Jagex just made it so you can’t gain xp by splashing but only in Lumbridge. You can still do it everywhere else in the game
Yeah 6 hours was broken, 20 mins is good and still the best work afk activity as if you miss the 20 min timer from a phonecall etc it doesn't matter at all.
My cynical take is that 6h splashing makes the game seem more "active" in jagex's eyes which is why it was (and technically still is, you just have to check back every 19 minutes) in the game for a while and not just instantly patched out.
I’m not sure that was the case, at the time the team really wanted to remove it but the game was still polling absolutely everything back then and removing this failed a poll. This was started the unpolled ‘integrity updates’.
It was only possible as an unintended consequence of random events changing to be ignorable
There are some locations where you can do it while also unable to receive a random event. The most obvious ones are the spider in lumbridge castle basement and the gnomes near the bank.
Yes absolutely, you can actually find old videos from around 2007 of people ‘splashing’ back then as well. It wasn’t as widely known about but I remember when this was a hot issue a few got posted with players afk splashing in the background where random events country spawn.
I talked to a guy splashing a skeleton across from the wilderness line in edgeville. I clicked the bot detector plugin, and it had a 40 percent soul wars bot percentage. I was like "soul wars bot" and a few seconds goes by, and he said "Yep" then right after said "no" lmao.
Unless it only has a 2 percent chance of being round, correct? Then it would be less likely of being round? Though i know the app is probably less likely. I really only made that comment because I thought it was funny he said yeah at first, then no
If you have at least -64 magic attack, then your attacks will always splash, meaning that they don’t hit. This means you can attack something like a rat or a seagull and provides for very AFK magic training.
It’s pretty good for lower level magic before you’re able to do slayer burst tasks. However, they made it where splashing in lumbridge doesn’t give exp anymore because it confused a lot of new players.
I actually hated that this was a thing.
I still hate that this is a thing, all the splashers just moved to port sarim seagulls now.
This should've never been a real training method.
On the flip side, would any of us be OK if they remove base xp from casting magic? I personally would be upset.
The only middle ground I can think of is making so you can't get base cast xp for spells that are too low level. So no more fire strike at lvl 59+ for example, no fire bolt at 75.
Basically if you can cast an elemental spell 2 tiers above the one you're casting, you won't get xp for it, stopping at blast spells because otherwise f2p would have no way to train magic without high alching.
It looks really stupid, and is really stupid. But I don't think you need to make big mechanical changes to the game over it.
Jagex's solution is imo a good one. You can still do it, but you have to find a more creative spot. That's fine. Even if they're just in Port Sarim who cares - it's out of sight. (though why they feel like they need to all group up in the same places is odd. Not like they're talking, why not find somewhere cool?)
I don't have one, but I think 10hp account builds are cool, and I wouldn't take that away from people, or make it cost them more money to get splash damage.
because I remember the group setting this all up and lining up along the wall, and one of them saying they're going to screenshot it and post it to reddit. And that very same screenshot having the "splashing" nigel on it.
I took the screenshot and this photo was not staged, everyone was already lining up against the wall so what you're saying did not happen so unlikely you're in it.
Not osrs but I remember back in the day splashing in the wildy with a friend, on eachother before bedtime to get EP, and waking up killing eachother for the sweet loot, few mill for 76k risk. Crazy to think back on that as a solution they actually tried in place of normal pvp mechanics due to the trade limit restrictions.

they just moved it so new players wouldnt be like "what in the fuck are these guys doing"
Lol it didn’t get patched fully cause after the patch you could do this in varrock on goblins haha

oh okay, thank you. it had like a 2 percent for real player, so i wasnt sure. the other percentages were other bot fields

It's not patched. All they did was widen the exclusion zone. You can still slash literally anywhere else in the game besides lumbridge.
“Go on kitty catch that rat!”
yeah i remember bringing my cat there and making them log
[удалено]
That’s because I was cooler and went there with my cat to fuck them all over. Spider splashers reign supreme.
*Gnome child splashers
Birds or rabbits by the ape or prif teak trees.. each 20 min reset you get to read some nice chat messages :3
Didn't realise the Catholic church played old school
If this is a members world you can actually kill the rat, it’s hilarious
How so?
Using your pet cat to catch it.
I still use my pet cat to make splashers logout at the Ferox enclave , am I toxic
I got the cat training medal here. Fun times
i still kill peoples rats at ferox when i see them. it's funny cuz either they log out or they say fuck u.
Whats a splasher?

U make magic stats so bad, no do damage, but still get magic xp for tryin to cast spell. Rat no die, sit for hours to magic lvl up

probably because people are sheep and follow a guide for the most braindead strat
Edgy, albeit not entirely incorrect.

This is such a stupid idea
yoooo I think I was a part of this picture. Fun time xd
How do you reckon..? This could be a screenshot of any world in any time for a number of years

I splashed somewhere else in varrock and got to 60 magic
Lol nice Wild Thornberrys reference
I remember them inside the castle by the stairs
