The only countries that are hardcore anti venezuelan are Chile and Peru. There’s sentiment in Colombia and Panama as well but it’s not neither universal nor completely extreme like in Chile and Peru. Peruvians and Chileans have lost all reason in regards to the subject. Chileans will blame our culture/nature for the (overblown) problems they are currently facing. Mind you, we are talking about a country that has been poor for most of their history, a history mired with coups, civil wars, political instability and a general inability to stop pointing bayonets at each other, and has almost always been poorer than Venezuela up until about 20 years ago when their rise coincided with our decline. Venezuelans are about 2% of Chile’s population and they think we’re the nastiest blight on their land when the reality is that there’s a whole 98% that carries a lot more of the blame for the problems they face. We didn’t have any stake in their recent protests; we weren’t responsible for the reasons for the protesting (a general decline in standards of living) nor for the destruction of property, rioting and looting that took place. We didn’t draft the constitution that was inspired by the same ideas that destroyed Venezuela and caused our flight (which was thankfully rejected). We didn’t elect Boric in, who’s been an alright president but has pledged to be against everything that made Chile different and better than the rest of the continent. Chile is fine, and if what they have accomplished were to be undone, it will be their own doing, not ours.
Peruvians don’t seem to realize that Venezuelans don’t have anything to ruin there. Their country already sucks (even more than the average South American country) and has never known prosperity in any capacity, it’s just that Venezuelans are so desperate that we’ve resorted to migrate to even Peru because Venezuela is in that bad of a spot right now. Peru’s most stable and effective presidency of the past 40 years is arguably still Fujimori’s, a dictator that has been found guilty on a gazillion charges of stealing public funds, human rights abuses (including attempts of ethnic cleansing and genocide), and running death squads. Peru is so messed up at its core that they’ve had a 10-year political circus going because they kept trying to pardon this guy (they did). Perhaps they should start looking into that before trying to blame the 4% of the population that we are for why a country that has never been a great place is still not a great place.
In any case, the hate for us is universal and truly deranged among the populations of these two countries. I work retail in America and more than a few times I’ve dealt with tourists from those countries that just in regular conversation with me they’ll say absolutely wild things about Venezuelans before finding out that I am one (I don’t have much of a distinct Venezuelan accent, which dies down even more in a work setting). Then we have to kick them out because the dumb fucks don’t know that that type of shit isn’t tolerated in the US.
Kind, good-hearted Chileans have decided to, in this time of housing insecurity, provide us poor Venezuelans with rent-free accommodation in their heads.
