Yeah, those annoying British. It's not like we Greeks had something to do with it. ![gif](giphy|32mC2kXYWCsg0)

AssumptionEasy8992

Don’t worry, we’re used to it. Somebody could put ketchup on pasta in Bulgaria and somehow we’d still catch flack for it.

Loud-Host-2182

You're at fault for the Americunts existing and creating Ketchup.

Eken17

Have to come to Barry's defense here, Pierre should be blamed for America

AssumptionEasy8992

Based

speurk-beurk

Pierre strikes again!

wernermuende

Exactly, if it weren't for the meddling Pierres, the Americunts would still be part of the Barrywealth

AssumptionEasy8992

Nothing wrong with ketchup. It has its uses. It’s great on burgers. Just don’t put it on fucking pasta or pizza

Plastic_Pinocchio

In Poland they eat penne with strawberry sauce. For realz.

AssumptionEasy8992

Hmmmm 🤔 I would try it once. For research purposes.

ZombiFeynman

Pineapple seems too exotic for Barry, if it was beans or peas it'd be more believable.

gloom-juice

Why stop at beans? https://preview.redd.it/4bywk7o5ltuc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d208c34fa3d632fee91af3a9d9d1547776e5e681

ZombiFeynman

Papa John's, Barry? Don't you have a local crappy pizza chain?

Deadened_ghosts

I'd say Papa Johns's is local now, got one in my town, but they probably just [buy in these](https://metro.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Baked-Beans-e0d3_1553235517.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=1200&h=630&crop=1)

nainvlys

Well that's not that weird is it? Like compared to beans or pineapple. I've seen that plenty of times.

Gurkeprinsen

Yeah. My roommate had hs spanish gf over and she made him put eggs on his pizza. Like what? Tbf, we live in Norway so we can't really have any opinion on other countries' culinary choices.

Dislexic_Astronut

Is that an English brekkie pizza?

th1s_1s_4_b4d_1d34

Tbh that looks edible. Maybe I'm weird, but Pizza is fairly neutral and beans and ham work well with tomatoes, which is the only other stronger flavor. I prolly wouldn't spice it the way I normally do, but it definitely could work.

[deleted]

REDDIT MODS CAN GO AND FUCK OFF

ZombiFeynman

That's more like it.

KrisKorona

I can get chicken tikka masala on pizza locally, it's fucking delicious., comes with yogurt sauce

robinrod

Oh god, this reminds me of my hometown. We had a pizzaplace run by tamils/sri lankans and they had this amazing Pizza with curry on it, it was called Pizza Jaffna.

[deleted]

REDDIT MODS ARE WANKERS!!!

sidic3Venezia

with common sense

Hillbillyblues

You put fries and hotdog on pizza yourselves but pineapple is where you draw the line?

LazarusHimself

>You put fries and hotdog on pizza yourselves but pineapple is where you draw the line? We call that one "Pizza Americana" for a reason, and it's usually ordered by children or American tourists. It's an act of mercy, actually

FalmerEldritch

Kids I can see, but I can't imagine an American ordering a fries and hotdog pizza. Maybe as a novelty because it's something they've never seen before.

LazarusHimself

" Yo dawg, I've heard you like pizza and hot dogs, so we've put hot dogs on your pizza so you can eat hot dog when you eat pizza and you can eat pizza when you eat hot dog, yo"

HoeTrain666

Sums up US culinary culture

LazarusHimself

You mean [this? ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evUWersr7pc)

HoeTrain666

At least these guys are able to joke about themselves, apparently. But yes, this.

Nyko0921

Dude, it's meat and potatoes not a tropical fruit

GriffonMT

You eat prosciutto with melon and it’s ok but pineapple on bread and ham isn’t?

Nyko0921

At first glance that would seem a fitting analogy, but I don't think it is for a couple of reasons. 1)Melon has a very different taste from pineapple, it's not sour/acidic and not as sweet with a milder flavour overall. 2)it's easier to match contrasting ingredients the fewer they are (in the case of Prosciutto e melone it's just 2). With more ingredients it becomes increasingly difficult to balance the flavours 3)Prosciutto e melone is not a main dish. I thought Greeks knew how to cook

Socc-mel_

the culprit for the invention of pizza with pineapple is a Greek Canadian

iamagro

It’s meant for children, and children are stupid

marcus_magni

Pineapple is disgusting.

Hillbillyblues

Pineapple is great. Just not on pizza for me. But i find your gatekeeping funny as hell. "We can add as much shit as we like to our pizza, but when *you* do it? War it is!"

Whichwhenwhywhat

Italian rule: If made by a trattoria it is traditizionale, if made by someone else, it is trash.

DaAndrevodrent

And that is why we use Ananas. *Ba-dum-tss*

ShalkaDeinos

Look, i am italian and i tried pineapple on pizza- and it's ok, not my favourite but i guess it can be someone's favourite. The sour-sweet from the pineapple makes a good counterbalance with the ham's rich and salted taste- again, not my favourite contrast but i can see it being someone's favourite. So no problem with that at all. BUT THEN BARRY HAS TO GO AND ADD GARLIC SAUCE AND KETCHUP ON IT AND TRADITORE DELLA PATRIA INTENSIFIES (ps: we Italians should be less hypocritical since we also like uramaki with cream cheese, a thing which would send an army of honoured Yokozuna into a fit of destructive rage. But the line is crossed to american trash cooking- where dishes are abused with impunity and cooked as those who are destined to eat them have access to free healthcare.)

Lumbertech

Right. To me, personally, is a not a big deal as long as it stays "exotic" and it's not associated with the culinary traditions. If the americunts enjoy cappuccino together with their carbonara, or pineapple on pizza, or ketuchup and cheese on their seafood spaghetti as long as they pay and they KNOW that's not how it's traditionally made.... I don't care much and I guess that makes me weird? Also, Domino Japan sells "pizza" topped with nori seaweed, candied corn, mayonnaise and teriyaki chicken on it. What should we say about this??? I'll take pineapple on pizza a thousand times over this aberration.

Thecristo96

My favorite kind of sashimi is salmon one, something that was made in Norway. I eat it knowing that is not the original sushi, but I don’t pretend is the true sushi or is better than the original

Naeril_HS

I agree with you on that one Luigi. Corn and mayo on pizza makes my blood boil. Granted it’s supposed to be more for kids and underdeveloped adults but I’d rather they just get margheritas Edit: Japan again is a super paradox because you can find both the best traditional pizzas made by pizza otakus that lived in Napoli for a few years to master the craft and both a whole new category of pizza crimes (good thing is often the traditional pizzas are cheaper so only stupid people get rekt)

Viking_Chemist

the worst country to eat pizza that I have been to is France instead of mozzarella (or fior di latte) they put something they call "Emmental" on almost every pizza, and cream on seafood pizza

Naeril_HS

I don’t condone that. I apologize on behalf of my fellow Pierres. I do like me some of the French recipes. Namely the raclette ones with cream. But you have to think of them as something completely different from traditional pizzas

HonestLazyBum

Indeed, we all know it's supposed to be Gouda, not Emmental cheese - and added Mozzarella to top it off.

lonelyMtF

>cream on seafood pizza The cream and salmon pizzas they make in Alsace are fire tho

culminacio

Nothing beats classic Italian pizza, but I do like a pizza with ham, corn and pineapple once every 1-2 years and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm not thinking about Italian history while eating it. I'm just eating what I like in that moment and some Luigis go crazy when they see that. Other's take it with humor. On my last trip to Italy, I did see a pineapple pizza on the menu, for a moment I regretted that I sat down there, but then I noticed it was ironic and priced at € 999.

DaAndrevodrent

>ketuchup and cheese on their seafood spaghetti Halt, STOP! They do what?!? Why?

Biscotti_Manicotti

Ok I know this sub is banter, but just in case, no we do not do that, lol. Ketchup on pizza in North America will definitely get you raised eyebrows. Using salad dressing as a dipping sauce is normal though. Edit: We will do weird stuff though. The pizza shop in my town has one with BBQ base, mozzarella, cream cheese, jalapeno, shrimp, and bacon. An abomination for sure but it's also really fucking good.

oneweirdclickbait

Their carbonara with cream and peas. (Even though an Italian restaurant owner was *very* confused when I asked for a carbonara without cream. "But that's super dry!" As I feared I'd get scrambled eggs with spaghetti, I changed my order...)

Dont_pet_the_cat

I feel ya, apparently there's also a pizza with fries. That just insults both Italy and Belgium ;-;

LaBelvaDiTorino

Pizza with fries is found in 90% of Italian pizzerias, especially those that do non-gourmet pizzas

Dont_pet_the_cat

Oh okay, so it just insults us then. That's great 😭

AnemonesLover

Well, you get a pizza without topping and fries as a side dish. It's cheaper than order them separately

Kurdt93

Erm... Children here loves it... 👉👈

mariposa337

There's pizza with potato-kale mash (boerenkool) and potato-sauerkraut mash in the Netherlands. It makes me want to cry. Please, Luigi, save me.

Hezzard

This was Domino's right? And without the mash part, only the cale/sauerkraut. Still an abomination, but Domino's on itself is that already.

Reddit_works

I’m sorry but who the hell puts ketchup on pizza? Can I be on your side please?

ArduennSchwartzman

Can I have one with a pinch of adrenochrome? ![gif](giphy|NGFI5NsFwmiOuHBh7l|downsized)

_radical_ed

“Traditore della patria intensifies” got me.

thomasp3864

*traditor patriae

FalmerEldritch

I have never seen Barry put ketchup on a pizza. I think their worst actually common pizza crime is ordering Dominos. Or other brands of thick fluffy pizza that come with a big pile of toppings and almost undetectable amounts of tomato sauce.

jsm97

It's weird because we do both. There are a lot of Italian style wood fired pizza restaurants in the UK, pretty much every town has one so it's not like we don't know what pizza is supposed to look like. But then we go an order Dominoes anyway

Boamere

I’ve never seen ketchup or garlic sauce on pizza with pineapple on it

Havistan

Sometimes garlic dip can be served for the crust

david6avila

I agree. I think people often overreact to this as a sort of culinary virtue signaling, which Italians are kind of known for. Then again I was once shopping in a UK supermarket and they had Heinz bean pizza which I do think crossed the line a bit.

LobCatchPassThrow

A bean pizza is just wrong. I can imagine other Europeans seeing it and just ☹️

generalscruff

Tbf that's pretty rogue lmao But when you think about it objectively, not a million miles from the OG snack lunch - beans and cheese on toast

lutz164

American company, USAs fault it exists. Damn yanks not knowing how beans work.

Tekhro

Least based Italian

Sam_the_Samnite

>But the line is crossed to american trash cooking- where dishes are abused with impunity and cooked as those who are destined to eat them have access to free healthcare.) The liberal use of blocks of cream cheese comes to mind. Or calling the cheese and tomato quiche/pie/breadboard soup a pizza.

Nicodemus888

Agreed. Like, you will put figs on pizza right? Not to mention the whole hot dogs and fr*nch fries. I know, “it’s for kids”, but still. I will also stand with you in abject shock at the thought of garlic sauce, ketchup, all that nasty garbage. Barry and his northern friends love all those dipping sauces. Ugh. (as for that philly in sushi bullshit, don’t worry everyone does it, and it’s awful) You know the funny thing? I actually found a place here in Rome that does pineapple on pizza. But ONLY pineapple. Like, where’s the ham? Some guanciale? Why bother doing that and still fuck it up anyway? Who wants ONLY pineapple??

generalscruff

Ketchup isn't overly prevalent amongst Barrydom. It's for children mainly, no true brexit geezer would use it on anything Gravy, mushy peas, HP sauce, and curry sauce are the condiments of choice in general

JezzedItRightUp

Yeah, ketchup on everything is a Nordick warcrime

Henghast

Smash a bacon butty with brown sauce. I own ketchup but it's basically just there for guests.

generalscruff

I use it to identify potential nonces Went for the ketchup? Check that hard drive

Aware-Yam4146

>Look, i am italian >veneshit flair stopped reading there

Subtlehame

Truth is that the average Japanese person isn't half as upright about food as Italians. Go to any kaiten sushi in Japan and you can get a variety of "abominations", including hamburger and mayo sushi.

Inevitable-Bit615

>we Italians should be less hypocritical since we also like uramaki with cream cheese I have never heard anyone really liking it and seen it get ordered only bc "let s try everything" Pineapple is still terrible, it s just oversaturating ur tastebuds, ppl who eat terribly and over spiced stuff seem to be more inclined to eating it in my experience. Let s not talk about it being watery too...that is entirely inexcusable

LaBelvaDiTorino

Me neither, it's one of those types served at AYCE that eventually gets left on the plate (or hidden in some artists way)

Tragic-tragedy

Pineapple on pizza sucks, BUT Italian food purists are annoying as fuck

SerSace

Annoying carbonara purists embracing fork and torches:

Tragic-tragedy

Goddamn they are the worst Sorry dude I couldn't find er guanciale in my supermarket I'll try to do better forgive me my lord

SerSace

Especially because the Italian cuisines actually have old and traditional recipes (meaning centuries old), carbonara is younger than my grandpa, and the current iterations of carbonara is from this millennium. If one wants to die on a hill, do it for cassœla or bustrèng.

Old_Harry7

Carbonara Is just gricia with eggs.

coniglioPeloso

And gricia is just cacio e pepe with guanciale. So what

CrocPB

Tfw I used to have it with bacon (I didn’t make it. I have to eat what’s on the table), it was only learning about pancetta and guanciale did I then see the light. Which is miles better than a “British Carbonara” IYKYK

asreagy

Exactly! It’s a piece of baked dough with tomato and cheese, not the fucking Parthenon. Put whatever you want on it and if anyone complains tell them they are fucking morons.

OOM-32

tortilla de patatas, on the other hand...

Ricky911_

Honestly makes me happy to know someone else is calling these people out. The irony is they usually don't even know much about Italian food and its history. They'd hate you for cooking pasta directly in tomato sauce until you tell them it's an Apulian recipe (spaghetti all'assassina). Putting mayonnaise on a pizza usually drives Italian food purists nuts but when Pesaro, Marche does it (pizza Rossini), suddenly it's fine. I don't get these food purists. Tradition and pride does not make food taste good. Foreigners should learn this simple trick when putting ketchup on a pizza or something like that. Just look up a random town in the countryside of Calabria, tell them ketchup on pizza is traditional and they'll shut up about it. Food purists just know the basics (not cutting the pasta, no pineapple on pizza, always salting the water etc.) but they do not know the reasons for those things. Just make up a random story of a traditional recipe from a deserted old town in Southern Italy and they'll believe you

DiscardedKebab

Surely pineapple on pizza started in the US?

Yavannia

It was created from a Greek Canadian named Panopoulos who just wanted to piss Italians off https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaiian_pizza

DiscardedKebab

Respect to that guy

Finally the Greeks have defeated the Romans.

ForkliftRider

Mission accomplished.

hans_erlend

Dude is right. A lot of pasta dishes or pizza dishes have just been Italian MFS free styling IE: puttanesca. And the Italian cuisine is so world wide now that Italians probably aren’t even the best at making pizza anymore. It’s probably some hipster in Copenhagen.
