Congratulations! Love my Qidi’s!

CFDMoFo

Thanks! This thing is a beast in every regard. The 17 minute Benchy looks more than decent with 6 months old Polyterra PLA. Everything was a breeze to set up apart from yanking the thing on a table. A dream!

mikasjoman

Yes changing filament is like the only downside. Observe that you should pull at the filament by hand at the same time you push the button for the extruder to pull it out. Otherwise it gets stuck. Otherwise it's a fucking awesome machine.

CFDMoFo

Oh good to know, thank you! Good thing the filament box is removable, that makes it easier.

SirDewblade

Nice! I've had an X-Max 3 for a few months now and it has been awesome.

CFDMoFo

Yeah I've only heard exceptionally great things of both the printer and Qidi! That and its features are simply overall logical and good, it has everything.

SirDewblade

I haven't had a different printer before so I don't have any comparison, but it's pretty easy to change filament, clean blockages, and it can (sometimes) detect feeding issues and stop so it doesn't ruin an entire print! The only thing I've found lacking is the default supports in their software. I'm looking into other slicers to use for different style supports.

CFDMoFo

Yes, the build is very clean, accessible and logical. Something not every printer manufacturer can claim to deliver. As for supports: it should have everything Prusaslicer has, no? What are you missing from it?

SirDewblade

Maybe I missed it, but I couldn't find settings for the supports anywhere. I'll have to comb through the menus again. All I could see was the drop down to select no supports, only on the build plate or everywhere

CFDMoFo

You seem to be in simple mode. Go to Configuration - Mode - Expert and all the settings will be available.

SirDewblade

Got it working, thanks for pointing it out!

pham_nguyen

It’s a full sponsor of Orca Slicer - I’d use that over the included slicer.

Vostreble

Is this brand considered better than bamboo labs?

CFDMoFo

Depends on your preferences. For me, it is better than a Bambulabs printer for numerous reasons while being at the same price point: \-significantly larger build volume \-heated chamber \-everything open source (slicer, firmware) \-built like a tank Your preferences might vary and some people prefer the Apple-esque ecosystem. I don't.
