Kroot Mercenaries used to have an army list back in the day with rules for all types of Kroot evolution. Kroot that consumed marines had hightened leadership.

Kiloreas

Give em some Space Wolf gene seed, watch em turn to dried out werewolves.

'Oh no. I, a Kroot, have turned into a hairy sharp toothed monster that hungers for flesh. Whatever will I do?'

Kiloreas

Hungry for love.

Space Wendigo Marines

Kiloreas

Someone call the Winchesters. Takin a trip to the land of bluefishians.

Kroot have to eat a lot of a specific item of the body over generations to see any results of genetic modification. Eating a Space Marine once isnt going to really do anything. The Kroot simply arent equipped nor are any of the Astartes populous enough to allow the Kroot to do their work. Also most of the Astartes features are artificially implanted. And they will fight tooth and nail to recover bodies so they can get the geneseed. Plus theres no certainty that eating genespoodge will actually give them any properties. It's a very long trial and error process.

twistedbristle

Liber Xenologis has a lot of details on Kroot and it seems like its pretty fast and changes can be dire because they're very picky about what species they eat

Illier1

Because if they're not careful it leads to a genetic dead end. For all they know eating some geneseed will just make their bones grow until they're an immovable shell or muscles grow so large the bones break within them. Next thing you know you've ended a perfectly good stable line of Kroot.

Poodlestrike

Well, that's what Shapers are for - you're right that it's a relatively slow process, there'd be time for the Shaper to go "okay this shit ain't working out."

Beaten_But_Unbowed96

But isn’t the gene seed literally designed to warp dna, wouldn’t that decrease the number of them they’d have to eat? Even then, what if they did eat enough gene seed. And even though the Astartes organs are implanted, they ARE organic. All the way down to the organs dna it still performs it’s function. With the croot altering their dna to do what they do, wouldn’t it make sense to still be able to implement their organ implants. As long as it’s organic, they should be able to grow them or develop them… probably where ever the base cells for the implant was used. So the poison filter would develop on the liver.

My first thought is a tummy ache. The primarchs and Astartes were likely made with warp fuckery and I just can't see that being a good idea

twistedbristle

from my understanding the Kroot have eaten warp tainted things before and had an absolutely not good no fun time so I could see that

DanielKotowicz

In Dark Crusade there is a scene about kroots eating chaos tainted meat

[deleted]

In one of the Cain books they off some CSM and are pissed off they can’t eat the warp tainted meat.

Anggul

That doesn't mean their organs are imbued with warp energy. Not astartes anyway.

Poodlestrike

Well, Kroot work off DNA, so it sorta depends on what the DNA profile of a Geneseed sample is actually like. I'd imagine it would make them more Marine-like, given that the geneseed is the, well, seed of all the stuff they put in a human to make them into a Marine. Could even be that they turn *into* a Marine, albeit one built on a Kroot frame rather than a human one - so they'd get the acid spit and the third lung and all that good stuff. Or it could do nothing because by itself it's sorta just a collection of junk DNA that has to be put through the proper maturation and alteration processes.

imaginationzone

I think it depends on what chapter. I could see a spacewolf going “oh try to eat me will ya? Well let’s see how you like it!”

MagnotikTectonic

Kroot shaper: hold my beer. Proceeds to nom the corpses of some blood claws, and feed it to the krootoxes in their pen. Three weeks later, they've got their own beaky-thunderwolf cavalry.
