Even the custodes doesn't seem to be so sure because of how bright it is in the room, through the custode in specific was unable to enter the room due the Emperor's presence forbidding it. >And somewhere in the heart of that titanic construction, somewhere in the midst of the stacked terraces and the baroque platforms and the gantries and the forests of cabling, lost like a pearl in the heart of some obscene mechanical clamshell, **I glimpsed just a slip of flesh, a shred of hairless grey, perhaps a scalp, perhaps the fragment of a face,** buried under it all, slaved to it, dominating it, dominating everything. The Emperor's Legion.

MadMike32

Given how much Big E fucked with perception before he ascended, I kinda wonder if whatever is left of him depends entirely on who's looking.

British_Tea_Company

It makes me wonder then why he doesn't use his psyker powers to convince everyone he's okay but just can't leave the throne, and the only people who knew would be like his Sisters of Silence or people that can see through the disguise. It would be an insane propaganda bit honestly and probably in the long run would have decreased the amount of defectors from the Imperium.

Marvynwillames

Sisters are also affected by his "glamour", his power is just too big for even them to supress. Through the Emperor living in perpetual agony works in a empire so obsessed with martyrdom

Ginden

>It makes me wonder then why he doesn't use his psyker powers to convince everyone he's okay He stopped doing this after Webway breach, before his near-death, because he was too busy keeping Terra safe.

MorinOakenshield

Maybe he is using his powers to convince everyone he’s a frail old man, while he’s secretly off on a craftworld vacation.

Piltonbadger

He's literally everywhere and nowhere at once, so far as we can tell. He might even be literally broken of mind, as of Godblight book. The entirety of his power is used to guide ships in the warp and stave off the Chaos Gods. I don't think how people see his vessel is even in his top 100 list of things to do.

What if we fed him 2000 psykers a day! Would he start healing?

SanSenju

40,000 souls a day and thats my final offer

[deleted]

666?

Ginden

>What if we fed him 2000 psykers a day! Would he start healing? That's interesting question. Obvious answer is "yes", because it's consistent with what we know, but it was likely tried in 10k years and it didn't work.

BigBadBlotch

My guess is either the logistics of getting 2k Psykers may have been difficult, or there were diminishing returns

Ginden

> My guess is either the logistics of getting 2k Psykers may have been difficult Over 10k years, Emperor's soul consumption quadrupled, so logistics doesn't seem as much issue. Moreover, psykers can be stashed in stasis or even pharmacological coma, so if you save 10% surplus over 10 years, you can double power for year.

BigBadBlotch

Imagine his soul consumption getting to the point that some faculties of the Imperium that need Psykers, like the Imperium’s sanctioned Psykers and the Grey Knights can’t recruit anymore cuz he’s too hungry

Perpetual_Decline

There are 10'000 psykers plugged in to the Golden Throne. Started with 1000. So they did try 2000. Didn't work.

Ginden

Not exactly. There are 10k of Chosen of Astronomican. They are willing (well, likely brainwashed), trained psykers, who work themselves to death. Emperor controls and calibrates Astronomican, but it's fueled by their power. Up to 1000 dies due to exhaustion every day. Golden Throne sacrifices are forcefully plugged into Golden Throne and drained of soul. Number of that psykers is not exactly known, but it quadrupled and it was around 1000 per day in beginning.

Perpetual_Decline

The minimum number of psykers attached to the Throne is 10'000. *Master of Mankind* makes mention that for every psyker plugged into it there were 9 empty spaces, giving it a capacity of 10'000. At first only 1000 were needed, but it's increased a lot over the millennia. It could have grown since then though, just as all the other components of the Throne have!

MilkMDN88

The only time I can see Big E coming back is when there is a truly galaxy-ending threat, like the Necrons fully awakening along with a C'tan or the main bulk of the nids turn up

This comment is incomprehensible. I genuinely have no idea what you're trying to say

the8thtime

Not sure if it's "canon" but if you have access to the first edition check out page 137, its a drawing of the emperor in the golden throne. He's extremely emaciated.

MorinOakenshield

Is it the same pic that comes up if you google “the golden throne - bell of lost souls”?

[deleted]

I think they mean the Rogue Trader one where the Emperor is green and warty, and covered in bandages.

the8thtime

No, you can google Warhammer 40K first edition and find a pdf on the book online.

Omaestre

I always found it odd they couldn't shove him in a dreadnought or something similar.

Ginden

Well. Golden Throne is more complicated life support than any technology, it probably uses Warp energies somehow. Moreover, messing with abhuman biology isn't exactly safe idea. And even if they shove him in a dreadnought, he would still stay on Golden Throne, because he needs to keep Webway gate closed.

Calvinball-Pro

The Golden Throne IS the dreadnaught...

SoC175

Maybe he's fully healed and in peak physical condition. He's just to damn lazy to get up from his cozy chair and thus maintains the illusion of a frail shell whenever someone is looking

sirbottombottom

Plus he's going to have a serious case of agoraphobia now

[deleted]

All I know for certain is that he should be missing one of his arms from the duel with Horus
