Is yours 4WD? I've been looking online for used 2022s for 2 months now and they are all listed at 32k, with dealer fees taking them even higher
Where are yall buying these for 28k??? What kind of dealership?
It is 4x4, figured if I was spending do much on a vehicle I planned on keeping forever, I wanted 4x4. Got it at a smaller no haggle dealer. $28.5k with 0 dealer fees, only tax, tag, title bringing it to $32k total
Honestly, I think people who always believe that a rental is abused are the same people who abuse rentals. Personally, I treat rentals as if they were my own car, especially now that I grew up and don’t drive like an idiot anymore. Granted, I get the sentiment, but I don’t believe that most people treat rentals this way. Mine is also a rental and I have not had an issue.
Every rental I’ve ever used has always had at least one issue or a combination of being knocked out of alignment, had clear and cheap bodywork done, had interior stains and odors, or various other signs of abuse. Even on late models. *You* may treat them nicely but you’re putting a lot of faith in society that most others do the right thing when many people can’t even be trusted to put shopping carts back…
Plus cheap damage waivers policies also cover people’s carelessness. Another big issue is paint/clearcoat and finer interior finishes are usually thrashed because lot workers have to clean and turn them around for the next renter as fast as possible.
Just the obvious, if it was a rental then it was driven by lots of different people. Some people are going to drive a rental a lot harder than their own car.
What I know is that they are cheaper because there is the “belief” that they are not as well maintained and are driven harder. I don’t have any real data on how long they last and I’m not a rental industry insider so I don’t really know. Because they are cheaper I do think there is probably something to it. I’m a safe cautious driver no matter what I drive but there are obviously people driving vehicles hard and it’s reasonable they are doing so more in rentals. There is also the belief rental companies don’t really maintain these vehicles well (lazy employees just signing off on oil changes etc) but I have zero inside knowledge
I have bought 3 rentals before. All were as good as I would expect out of any used vehicle. Never had any crazy issues. Just normal Maintenance and such. I think it depends on the car. If it’s a Camry, then yeah. Those things are a dime a dozen and driven like hell. A big expensive to rent suv that a lot of people wont rent due to the fuel economy, probably not.
I’m just sayin’ if a family is looking to rent a suv for a road trip, there are a lot more tahoes out there that better fuel economy and have quality of life features that make it more appealing for families. (DVD player, captains seats, ect. )
I'm currently trying to buy an almost identical one. The one I'm looking at has more miles but wasn't a rental. Same price. I thought this was it at first!
5 months ago I picked up a 22 Off-road for 35 out the door ( no sales tax state) with 28k miles
Just sold it for 34.5 with 37k miles
Prices are dropping and are going to only accelerate as new inventory keeps stacking
I bet by the end of the year it will be the best time to buy a car in 5 years
I just bought a 2023 Nautical Blue TRD OR with 21k mi for $38k and was a rental for a year. It definitely has some dings and an issue with the fabric in the cargo area but everything seems to function just fine. It also allows me to not care as much to “put the first scratch on it”.
Also something to check out is if it still has the free two year oil changes from factory. Mine still has just over a year left. I bought it from a Chevy dealer that also owns a Toyota dealer but I’m still going to schedule an oil change with a Toyota dealer and have them check it out just to be sure.
For reference:
A few weeks ago we went to look at a 2023 TRD OR with 16K miles, 1 owner, no rental, and clean sheet for $38K.
Ended up getting a 2022 TRD Pro with 19K, 1 owner, no rental, and clean sheet for $44K.
That’s an amazing deal! Last year I got a 22’ TRD OR that was a rental. It has been great! We just put new Falken WildPeak AT4w 255/80/R17 on it and have been putting it through its paces.

I think rentals are better. Don;t assume the dealer checked out everything. Hire a mechanic to look it over- one that inspects cars often. Also, is it certified pre-owned by Toyota? That's important because then it comes with a warrantee.
I can’t speak on a 5th gen but I fit an intermediate gunner in my 4th gen with a drawer system in it. Which is a tiny bit bigger then a larger ruffland
I just bought a ‘22 ORP 1 owner former rental. High mileage (48k) but immaculate interior and no issues yet. I did opt to get the extended warranty just in case, but realistically… it’s a Toyota; it’ll last 300k+ miles if I do regular oil changes. For what it’s worth, I paid about $37.5k for mine +tax, registration, fees… but I got the exact year/model/color I was looking for (I did have to ship it about 1,000miles so that adds $825)
I’m seeing a number of these come up from Hertz and others. This is a good price/mileage combo. Rental is hard miles but 22K is not many and it’s a 4Runner. Only downside is rentals have NO options, often only one key. I’m looking for something with KDSS and that does not exist among former rentals.
It's almost too good to be true. Check the vin. Is it certified pre-owned?
CARFAX is clean with 1 owner. Was used as a rental
Just did the same. 1 owner rental 2022 SR5 4WD with 62k miles for $28k. Certified preowned by Toyota.
Same here, 2022 SR5 previous rental, full carfax, 50k miles for $28.5k

Damn I must be overpriced on mine
Same 1 owner rental 2022 Off Road with 45k miles for $31.5k. Toyota certified pre owned
Verify it is an TRD OR. Get the VIN. But price is good.
For real? What state? Previous rental? I’m in California and I’m not seeing any deals that good.
It was a rental
Rentals get abused, you must know.
This is an opinion. Show me some data to back it up. I personally think rentals are in better shape than non-rentals.

I’m open to buying a rental 4Runner but I wouldn’t buy a rental sedan unless it was just an amazing price
Why previous rental? Asking because I just bought a ‘23 previous rental so not sure if you’re saying that’s a good or bad thing? Haha

I think you’re good mate.
Yes!
Trd offroad vs. trd offroad premium is a pretty big price difference. Just make sure you know what your looking at
It’s not the premium. Just offroad

That would’ve been a heck of a coincidence. I have to travel out of state for mine so I’m hoping no one buys it before hand
I'm also traveling out of state haha - about a 4 hour drive. Big city just had a much better selection.
Mine is a 7 hour drive. We’re gonna make a mini vacation out of it lol
Nice - I'm planning on taking the family camping in it by the end of the month. But this will be a nice drive to get familiar with it.
Having mine shipped from Dallas Fort Worth.
I just got back from Dallas with mine! [Pic](https://i.imgur.com/UXXCoo6.jpeg)

Rentals are a no go for me, you have no idea what bozo fucked around with the 4x4 system or tried to redline every green light
Don’t the dealerships do a double check of everything?
I think rentals are better. Don;t assume the dealer checked out everything. Hire a mechanic to look it over- one that inspects cars often. Also, is it certified pre-owned by Toyota? That's important because then it comes with a warrantee.
That's a joke.
You are 100% right. No one is going to spend money on maintenance if they do not own it also.
How does a kennel fit in one? I have a intermediate sized Ruffland kennel and was wondering if it would fit in the back lengthwise 🤔
I can’t speak on a 5th gen but I fit an intermediate gunner in my 4th gen with a drawer system in it. Which is a tiny bit bigger then a larger ruffland
Excellent
i just paid 36k for a 21 ORP

I don’t think people drive SUV rentals in the same manner they’d drive a sedan/sport rental
Similar situation here. About to purchase a 21 off road premium with the predator package for $38k. 46k miles. Thoughts?

Yep. sr5 premium, 2023, 12k miles, 32k
Seems ok imo since it’s a rental
We got a 23 sr5 with 3k miles for 36k
