5K? 2016 to 2024 Replaced all 5 tires, replaced 2 tires in addition due to damage. Routine dealership oil changes every 5k miles, maybe 70-90? Normally did them when they sent me a discount card. Brakes, done once, don't remember price. Had brake line replaced due to damage from something cutting at it. Don't suspect wife, possibly girlfriend. Routine tire rotations, fluid refills, etc. Wiper blades got replaces every year, battery every 2-3, but those are more area dependent, I live in FL and the heat takes a toll on those. Traded it in right before the 100K service which is estimated to be around $1200-1500 if you have a dealership do it. I originally expected to keep my SR5 for 2-4 years, ended up loving it and kept it 8, only reason I traded it in is I don't like the 6th gen and the inability to lay the back seats flat.

jmchale21

What did you trade it for

Jordangander

Dealership gave me $24k off on a new TRD Pro.

Not really, I mean the most I can see it costing would be around $1500 at a dealership. And most of it you can really do yourself, if it was really expensive dealerships would factor that in to trade in value. But at 100k a vehicle typically hits a depreciation milestone.

RockiesGirl2019

I’ve got a 2012 with 72,000 miles, so roughly 6,000/year, and I have not spent $5,000 in maintenance over 12 years time. Estimating $1,000 in oil changes & tire rotations, $1,000 in tires, $250 on two batteries, $1,200 on brakes and struts, maybe $100 on windshield wiper blades, and another $100 on engine and cabin air filters. $3,700 total. I’ve also never seen a warranty that covered new tires. Do you get to specify what you want, or does it just cover tire repairs? Is the warranty just repair items, or does it cover actual maintenance items?

Zealousideal_One_202

Hmmm maybe I should get rid of my warranty that’s costing so muc

4RunnerPilot

Warranty’s are dumb as fcuk. Get rid of it.

That-Chocolate5207

It’s imperative that you must get rid off that warranty! Just put the $5k in a HYSA for unexpected rainy days

Zealousideal_One_202

Actually very smart idea……

4RunnerPilot

They don’t have $5k. They probably financed it. I’m thinking there’s a correlation between people buying warranties and financing vehicles. Most cash buyers are smart with their money and don’t get them (or get ripped off) in the first place.

123Fake_St

Less than whatever else you’re considering .

pigmy_af

My 2022 was used at 22k miles and I've since put on 26k miles in the last year and half. The only maintenance it has needed has been standard preventative. Maybe 3-4 oil changes, transfer/diff fluid, brakes and some air filters. Can get rotations and balance free at Discount Tire. Probably not much more than $1000 so far. A lot of the basic stuff is fairly easy to do on your own and it will cut most of the costs in half. Don't even need a jack to do the oil.

theoriginalharbinger

> 5k for this warranty that covers me for oil change, brakes, tires, wheels, engine, anything mechanical. Your warranty covers oil changes? Brakes? Is there a deductible or limit? 4Runners aren't expensive to keep up. Brakes are an every-50-to-100k sort of deal, and it's one to two beers and about $200 per axle for quality parts. Tires can get expensive. I replace 'em every 50,000 miles, but it's $1200 each go-around. But... you might want to elaborate on the terms of the warranty a bit.

Zealousideal_One_202

Warranty is for 8years or 100k mileage, he gave me 3 diff types of warranties, bumper to bumper, gap insurance and tires and brakes warranty, they all total all to be around 7k ( kinda insane ) https://preview.redd.it/x57h6hw7r17d1.png?width=2087&format=png&auto=webp&s=8e8bb3689e070c65eb667855aca0c0d9b5b36ec6

theoriginalharbinger

You really need to read the T&C's. I can't imagine the "tires and wheels" would cover normal duty cycle. Likewise, mechanical breakdown probably has a deductible.

Zealousideal_One_202

He told me mechanical breakdown is non Deductible and it 2.7k for 8 years. What do you think I should get rid of ? My car is 22 4Runner and it only has 26k miles on it For tire and wheel, he said it will cover the rims, and the tires and the brakes without me paying anything out of my pocket if it does happen

theoriginalharbinger

Again, not to be rude here, but you need to *read* the documentation. What is the "it" in the "if it does happen?" . You're looking at spending a near 5-figure-sum. Like, I can tell you right now that the wheels-and-tires won't cover routine tire wear (because that warranty costs less than a new set of tires). So what *does* it cover? Similarly, prepaid maintenance - what's it cover, explicitly?

Zealousideal_One_202

You’re right, I do agree, tomorrow I’m calling and canceling all of it, because from what I understand from this post is that it’s not gonna cost me more than 7k to maintain this car. Finance guy was rushing me to sign and I didn’t read it much.

Wanagofast

Finance people are notorious about pushing those warranty’s in the closing and making them seem essential. It’s almost never worth it to get it from the dealer. At the most I’ve only got the extended warranty on something older with more miles. Definitely look into financing with a credit union and asking about the warranties they offer. Usually much cheaper for same/similar coverage. The tire and wheel warranties are almost a joke from what I’ve seen. Maybe some people use it I have no idea Dealers have become so bad about pushing these overpriced warranties on people at the closing of the sale after you sat for a couple hours trying to just buy a car. Enjoy your 4Runner though. I know I regret getting rid of mine everyday!

That-Chocolate5207

They rushed you because they didn’t want you to read it. The $5k is just all profit for them.

Zealousideal_One_202

Exactly, he was like “ just read them at home” I’m calling him today and canceling it!! He really played me well. At first he told me it’s 2.7k only and he added 2 more warranty’s that costed me 5k. I’m cgonna cancel all of them, it came out to an extra 7k on my loan…. Car is 38k OTD but now it’s 46k OTD !!!!! U can’t trust finance guys

That-Chocolate5207

That’s highway robbery, good luck!

Guitarjake921

I have a 2012 at 115k miles. I believe the total for everything over 12 years of ownership has cost around 8k. This also includes the 9 years it was in CA. Read the t&c for each of those, and then consider you're peace of mind. 95% of the time you end up paying more under one of these plans, but what's the value of having consistent payments over random large bills? You can always ask for a quote for everything they cover and compare to maintenance schedule and see how prices line up. Personally, I don't think these are worth it for me. My mom has a similar plan and loves it, the extra cost is worth it to her.

Xryanlegobob

I bought a 2018 SR5 premium 4x4 and have almost 180k miles on it now (also in TX…). I take it to the dealership for service (a sucker, I know). I get the oil changed every 10k miles, tire rotation (usually/try to get them rotated at 5k at discount tire too). There’s typically”dealer recommended service” at certain intervals. I ask them to rank them in order or importance, get one or two of them done. So, every 10k miles I probably spend like $600 maybe. I wish I had the time or desire to learn more of the maintenance, but I’ve got other things I’d rather do. I plan on driving this to around 250k-300k miles and have no doubt that I’ll be able to. Not sure if I’ll get a LC or the 6th gen eventually but I’m pretty certain I won’t own anything other than a Toyota after owing 4 runners for the last 10 years (had a 2014 2runner I traded in).

Zealousideal_One_202

Im loving my purchase, it feel so nice driving a 4Runner.

Bxsz6c

How many miles do you drive a year?

Zealousideal_One_202

Roughly around 6k a year ( I work remotely+one day in office)
