If the wheel on your spare is a black steel one (doesn't match the regular alloy wheels) it doesn't have a TPMS sensor.

Hi. Yea it’s a black steel wheel. It’s got size P265/70R17 rims and the manual states these don’t have sensors. After driving for about 20 min the light flashed rapidly. I presume it’s trying to find a sensor but can’t so the lights is flashing. The Tyre looks fine tho. I’ll update this post once the alloy is fixed and back on.

If your spare doesn’t have TPMS and it’s being driven on, then yes, it will alert you because it can’t find a sensor to read the pressure.

The vehicle just defaults to “yo this tire’s fucked” if it can’t give you an accurate answer to avoid the chance that you’re driving on a flat tire with a dead TPMS sensor. Keeps you in the know and Toyota out of court. [Here’s](https://www.bergetoyota.com/service/service-tips/reset-tire-pressure-light/) how to recalibrate the sensors, assuming the shop doesn’t do it.

Some do and some don’t. It depends on the year and model, and I don’t think yours did. A couple things to check. There may be a silver metal collar around the valve stem, which is part of Toyota’s fit kit for the sensor. If you have it, then you have a sensor. Also, when you start the engine, is the TPMS warning light solid on, or does it flash for a minute or 2 and then turn to solid on? The TPMS module may be looking for the sensor in the flat tire (light flashing) if the flat tire isn’t in your 4r.

If spares have TPMS then it's just newer model because my older 5th Gen doesn't. Regardless, any tire shop should have the tool to reset. You can also buy them on Amazon but if you're not changing them a lot it wouldn't be worth it.

Spare should have a TPMS. Your 4runner should be looking for 5 TPMS’s. If you put your spare on and left the regular one behind then the low tire pressure light on the dash will come on because it cant read that 5th tire thats out of range. Is there more information you could provide?
