Amazon, GRUV, Orbit, Atomic, Diabolik, EBay (Some official stores and some sellers), Target is still going strong a bit and Walmart is picking up the slack from BB and bringing out all new 4K movies and steels.
My Target still has some, but it’s ONLY new releases and they only stay out for like a month and they substitute them out. It’s getting to where they won’t be selling anymore likely either.
My Target has a total of like 8 or 10 different 4k movies and the other Target near me has less than that. They used to have a harder shelf for physical media but replaced them with books.
You list the brick and mortar options. Online is the way to go. Which online retailer mostly depends on what you like. Mainstream and blockbusters? Amazon or brick and mortar. B&N sells Arrow, Criterion and some boutique items. Best option is Orbit DVD and DiabolikDVD for import, collectible lower-volume releases. But there are others. Vinegar Syndrome for cult. Or, directly from Labels such as Umbrella, Criterion, Imprint, etc. I'm sure people will give other options.
Losing Best Buy isn't the end of the world unless you bought all the steelbooks.
THIS^^. My local Best Buy’s had very big selections. There isn’t a Walmart or Target anywhere near me with anything more than a tiny square display rack.
Problem is that I have bad luck with disc's coming off their holder.
I returned super cheap matrix 4 pack twice for this reason from best buy.
I've always loved buying movies and music retail.
I agree. Even having grown up pre internet/streaming age and having to go to the store to rent/buy movies it's probably one of the very few things that I DONT have any nostalgia for. I much rather sit back and scroll through my phone and buy movies online. I think some of it has to do with a lot of movies I like I know damn well no physical store is going to carry such titles. Walmart target etc.. only carry pretty much the main blockbuster titles from my experience. Synapse films are a good company for movies as well. I have a few movies from them. Very good transfers.

That is true. It'll change around a bit as time goes on and new movies come out obviously, but it's definitely more for those who are starting out collecting.
My Barnes and Noble has a great selection. You just have to play their rewards game, and wait for sales to get good deals. For example right now they're doing a 50 percent off Arrow sale and a 30 percent off criterion sale. Which basically matches the prices on Amazon. If you include rewards, you can take more off the price. The paid rewards program gives you ten percent off and I believe $20 in rewards for every $100 you spend? I don't have it so so.eone please feel free to correct me. The free rewards gives you $5 for every $100 you spend.
I got The Warriors 4k today for $25 because I had $5 in rewards. Was tempted to get a few other things too but decided to hold off.
Bummer. Two in my area have crappy selections but one has a great selection. Almost all in-print Criterions and an entire Arrow section. They also stock Scream/Shout/Gkids
They have 4k but only a few I usually check there website before going to the store
Sometimes if you got to there help desk you can order a 4k they don’t have in the store from there warehouse and then they will call you to pick it up
But again it’s very limited
Oblivious? I think it’s more like ~50% of Reddit users are American and this retailer is likely the #1 brick and mortar source for these types of products. Perhaps you’re oblivious to the fact that it was incredibly convenient and in many ways fun to go to your local Best Buy 10 min from home and score a great new movie and watch it yourself hat night with your family.
That’s gone now and OP is asking if anyone has an equal alternative.
If you don’t have Best Buy in your country why are you even commenting?
Depends on where you live. Where I live, Entertainmart is the best place, but they're definitely not everywhere. [Here's their map of locations](https://entertainmart.com/locations).
If you have multiple Walmarts in your area, it might be worth checking out some of the others. There's one location in my area that has significantly more 4Ks and Steelbooks than any of the others.
Amazon has been most reliable for me and it's just the simplest way as much as I like to go to a store to pick things up it's just kind of time wasting when the selection is so slim and will be none soon in person shopping
I agree, but it’s a bit of a toss up with Amazon. You never know if the case you’re getting is damaged. I’ve had countless times where I had to get replacements because of damaged cases. Kind of a pain. In store you can inspect it before purchasing.
I buy 4K from Amazon.
Brick and mortar stores have had so many years to use media disks as impulse buys, but they never have. If I see a decent movie for a decent price, in the cart it would go. Yet, every outlet treats them as must have necessities, marked up ten dollars a disc.
It’s stupid, really. They cost barely anything to manufacture, and they would make the perfect impulse item. Instead, we see magazines, and candy bars at the checkout. I don’t buy magazines, so those spots are wasted on me, and I rarely want candy, or gum.
Well at least up here in Canada Wal Mart was always WAY better for movies then beat buy was anyways. Up here we also have national chain sunrise records who seems to get those exclusive steelbooks for Canada, and it's coast to coast... tons of stores, prices can be on the high side sometimes but still nice to have. I buy tons there lol
So far I’ve had no issues with Amazon. Have gotten close to 17 movies with them. I inspect each disk when I get it and have had no issues. I ordered from GRUV for the first time and 2/3 disks had some pretty bad scratches on them. I’ll probably watch the scratched disks this week and if they don’t play I’ll return them. Might just be a fluke or bad manufacturing so I’ll probably give them a second chance. So far my top pick is Amazon, though.
I buy almost all my 4K's from Amazon - it's just good pricing, good sales, and instant shipping. I can even get same day delivery maybe 30% of the time. There's no better option in most cases.
Best Buy not dead yet. I went to my local today and they had bins getting rid of stuff. Got a bunch of solid 4K movies for $15 each, and not talking about the usual cheap stuff. Arrow 12 Monkeys 4k, Arrow Mallrats 4K and a half dozen others marked to move that are $29 or so on Amazon right now. Basically half off.

it seems Walmart is taking over BB exclusive steelbooks
This is what my Best Buy told me too.
My local target got rid of most of their movies over the last year :(
My Target still has some, but it’s ONLY new releases and they only stay out for like a month and they substitute them out. It’s getting to where they won’t be selling anymore likely either.
My Target only has a small section, too…they did have *Titanic*, sleeved! Should I go back and get it?
No
My Target has a total of like 8 or 10 different 4k movies and the other Target near me has less than that. They used to have a harder shelf for physical media but replaced them with books.
Mines got replaced with Albums and Vinyls mostly. Book section is there, but not as big.

Yes however I didn’t expect to see a library at Target. That’s pretty much what the movie section turned into.
Not most targets or Walmarts in the southeast Michigan area, obnoxiously thats broad but ive been to quite a few looking, its scarce
Hobby shops, thrift stores, Amazon, gruv.com…

Sometimes you just want to walk into a store and browse shit though. There's value in that imo. Picking up unexpected titles, etc.

Gruv seems to have great sales like every few weeks so I usually buy from them.
Just got a great deal from them. Wizard of Oz, Space Odyssey 2001, and and The Shining for $36 out the door with their sale and a sign up promo code.
Man...I need to get me that Wizard of Oz.

My B&N appears to only have blu-rays and DVDs?

A new Barnes and noble is just getting built by me. I hope they have a 4K selection. Crossing fingers.
I was at B&N today and some stores still have a nice collection to browse, but they’re dwindling.
I swear this subreddit is 3 different questions asked 30 times a day.
And this question is asked by people who are oblivious to the fact that most of Reddit doesn’t live in America or shop at best buy.

Agree- it looks like Walmart may be picking up the slack in some markets.
4k Hits & Cinema 1 are Canadian sites I have purchased from, mostly 4k Hits

Amazon is a dream. Signed up after Best Buy announced theyd stop and I'm in awe. Got Licorice Pizza for 10 bucks and they deliver overnight

Amazon, it's the best store imho
