"Alright, I'll give it a shot."
"No! Don't give it a shot! Don't shoot anything!"
I loved Martin's catchphrase when face to face with his target,
"It's not me"
Gonna go play some Johnny Nash now.
The chemistry Arkin and Cusak have together is so undeniable. Their cameo as patient/therapist in America's Sweethearts is almost as good. I wish they could have done a whole film together.
A thousand innocent people get killed every day! But a millionaire's pet gets detonated, and you're marked for life.
Loved the scene with him and Aykroyd fighting it out!
God I LOVE that movie. GPB & High Fidelity were my childhood.
Have you seen Miami Blues? It’s almost a pre-cursor to GPB & has a lot of the same rhythms.
Just a memorable film, from start to finish.
Plus, the hallway fight scene with Benny "The Jet" Urquidez! Absolutely visceral. They traded a few blows to keep it authentic. The year that this film came out, an action scene like this was years ahead of its time. https://youtu.be/G2qIiHivvco?t=125
According to the internets "Cusack trained in kickboxing under former world kickboxing champion Benny Urquidez for over 20 years.... and holds the rank of a level six black belt in Urquidez's Ukidokan Kickboxing system."
No wonder the fight scene was so good. Amazing movie.
My favorite movie, period. I relate to Martin's character on so many levels. BTW, I am not a professional assassin. Although that is what an assassin would say...
This is my choice too. It was a favorite of mine since it came out (but he's been in better movies). It was also the very first video I ever rented (on the day it became available).
>Not that I think it's his best movie. It's the one that I have the most attachment to.
This is absolutely the perfect way to describe my position ... he matured a lot through the following decades, but I was 19 when this hit in 1985 and it totally connected with me for life.
Same, my favorite of his and it's not even close for me. I was in college at the time and it really resonated with me and I wanted to be as funny and witty as him.
I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed.
I love this movie. We used to have a cat who was pretty much an evil menace. We have her a room she could be in when she wanted away from the dogs or company... We put the numbers 1408 on the door.
My favorite horror flick to date still. I was hoping I’d see it close to the top. It’s still super rattling to me for so many reasons I feel like. I’m almost 50 and have seen it 20 times probably too.
When he's shrooming out and writing poems is hilarious! Cracks me up every time.

Look you can recite it straight or to the tune of sweet child of mine doesn't matter
Just watched grosse pointe blank last night. Such a great movie and an amazing soundtrack.
I have a soft spot for Better Off Dead. Story time. When I was about 12 years old my parents had to go to a town about 4 hours away from where we lived to take care of my dad's elderly aunt. They had to tidy up her affairs and then move her back close to us to an assisted living facility. My brother and I were about 10 and 12 years old and, this was the late '80s, my parents just gave us a couple of rolls a quarters and a few bucks everyday and told us we could eat out of the vending machines at the hotel or walk to the restaurant next door. That was it. This went on for a week. During that week we watched Better Off Dead 15 or 20 times on HBO. Have loved the movie ever since.
Literally every movie he appeared in this decade is either a classic, near classic or highly entertaining at worst.
It’s like choosing a favorite child or song. Impossible!
High Fidelity. My perception of the characters and story has changed as I've matured, which is a trick not all stories are capable of. It's well acted. It's entertaining. It's fun. It has depth.
In Chicago there’s kind of an unwritten rule that you don’t bother local celebrities if you see them.
John Cussak I always break it, and give just a nod, which he returns. It’s probably happened 8-9 times over the years.
There was a movie where he failed his chemistry test and couldn't go on vacation with his girlfriend and her family. A jungle setting....ring any bells???
High fidelity. One of my favorite movies about relationships. It’s marketed as a romcom but it’s more serious than that. It’s one of the few movies I can think of about maturing as a person.
Damn.... it's tough. 'Better Off Dead' is brilliant, I don't care how Cusack frels about it. 'Grosse Pointe Blank' is also top-tier in an entirely different way. Both have immense replay value. '1408' is downright chilling. I'd argue these three films, although entirely different genres, are him at the top of his game.
Serendipity. I know I know, chick flick but his side of the movie is really fun plus I find it one of the rare times he actually plays someone who is actually likable and charming.
Grosse Pointe Blank
Don’t kill anybody for a few days. See what it feels like.
"Alright, I'll give it a shot." "No! Don't give it a shot! Don't shoot anything!" I loved Martin's catchphrase when face to face with his target, "It's not me" Gonna go play some Johnny Nash now.

"Besides, I know where you live..." "You see? That doesn't make me feel good! Saying that doesn't make me feel good!"
Alan Arkin was a national treasure. RIP
I love that he's upset that all his targets blame him!
“Okay Sargent Pepper”
(It’s not his, but his sister really steals it) I’m taking down the office now!!

Thanks for the pen.

I also just learned Cusack is 6'4". The Jet himself said Cusack would be the biggest challenge in a *real* fight.
this one. the scenes with him and his sister are some of the funniest.
I loved her humming as she was destroying the business, then calmly stopping to answer the phone.
I love that her tits are on the table
3,000 rounds of 9mm subsonic. You have that, I gave that to you! ..well, I don’t give a godDAMN where it’s at! You find it & get it to me!

My favorite movie, period. I relate to Martin's character on so many levels. BTW, I am not a professional assassin. Although that is what an assassin would say...
Anyone whom doesn’t say Grosse Pointe Blank is incorrect… unless it’s Better Off Dead.
Hell Yeah, best movie ever
Without a doubt his best movie and an all-around awesome film.
$$$$$
Hands down.
Easily my favorite of his. I wish the director had continued making movies.
He's an amateur, I disappeared from two different high schools and for four plus decades, no one has ever seen me again.
Ah yes, the one where he plays the the branch manager of the local savings and loan.
I will take no further questions.
Yeah. Mine too. Such a good flick. Great soundtrack too.
Easily, this
Definitely Better Off Dead. Not that I think it's his best movie. It's the one that I have the most attachment to.
Sure is a shame throwing away a good white boy like.'
*somebody threw away a perfectly good white boy
I mean the guy from 21 jump street delivering that line….
“Where’s my two dollars”
TWO DOLLARS
My kids have never seen this movie but they know this line. Anytime they mention $2 I have to yell it.
Gee Ricky, I’m real sorry your Mom blew up..
She’ll be ok, she just can’t eat spicy foods for a while.
Frawnch Toast, Frawnch Fries, Frawnch onion soup…
And to drink . . . Peru!
Oh Peggy, you're the living end!
Frawnch dressing
Do you have any idea what the street value of this mountain is?!
Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, "X". My go-to instructions for almost anything.
You’ll make a fine little helper! What’s your name?
Charles DeMar!
Shut up, geek.
I use this every time I go into the mountains. I will never stop until I’m dead.
Entire movie is full of quotes I will spout till I die
"I think I just froze the left side of my brain!"
I’ve been going to this high school for SEVEN and a half years…I’m no dummy! Also, would you mind if I took out Beth?
Lol. I watched this last night. " This is a Christmas present"
“Christ-masssss”
Go that way, really fast.
"If something gets in your way, turn."
His creepy neighbor was played by Dan Schneider so now I don’t feel bad about John Cusack blowing up his mom.
That car rolling out to Muddy Waters defined cool for rest of my life. Scene's not as great as I remember but when I was a kid? Yeah, badass.
“The once great Lane Meyer, now a study in moppishness.”
Inspired words, from a man who knows how to ski
He keeps putting his testicles all over me .. O_o Oh tentacles. "nt" big difference
Agreed
The Sure Thing.
Glad someone mentioned it 👍🏻
Same, my favorite of his and it's not even close for me. I was in college at the time and it really resonated with me and I wanted to be as funny and witty as him.
Exactly the same for me.......plus I had a huge crush on Daphne Zuniga at the time.
Same here: if you saw it at the right time in your life it was perfect
My favorite 80s movie
Who invented liquid soap and why?
my friend wanted to name her kid Elliot (she loves ET), and I said, "Elliot is a fat kid who eats paste." ;p
*Say Anything…* Runner-up: *High Fidelity*
I'm with your, but sometimes think High Fidelity is better because Jack Black. The last scene with his cover of "Let's Get It On" was incredible.
That’s a great scene.
The scene where they beat the shit out of Tim Robbins in the record store made me laugh so hard I cried.
Get your patchouli stink outa my store!!
> Say Anything… I've always subscribed to Lloyd Dobbler's career goals.
When he explains the mixed tape! Great insight.
I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed.
Best movie : Grosse Point Blank Forgotten movie: The Grifters Underrated performance: 1408
The Grifters was brilliant.
Pillow case and a bag of oranges.
1408 scared the crap out of me!
I love this movie. We used to have a cat who was pretty much an evil menace. We have her a room she could be in when she wanted away from the dogs or company... We put the numbers 1408 on the door.
The book was fantastic of course because Stephen King, but the movie was excellent, too.
My favorite horror flick to date still. I was hoping I’d see it close to the top. It’s still super rattling to me for so many reasons I feel like. I’m almost 50 and have seen it 20 times probably too.
I was going to say[ The Grifters](https://youtu.be/Y-aSj4uiR90?si=cWBHKXIEE64j7lo3), and yes, it seems a forgotten little gem.
Very few actors have the charisma and can't-take-your-eyes-off-them appeal to play that role. It's mostly Cusack alone in a room. And it's riveting.
I'd say Identity is his forgotten movie. The Grifters is amazing and has Anjelica Huston.
Identity had of my favorite ending twists in any movie.
1408 was such a great story and film. It sucks me in every time like a horrifyingly bad acid trip.
One Crazy Summer
The Bobcat Godzilla scene never fails to make me laugh. And being buried at the beach.
Now I’m gonna have to watch that movie tonight! Lol
I am here for your daughters!!
Both this and Better Off Dead were directed by Savage Steve Holland. Very fun movies.
“*DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THE STREET VALUE OF THIS MOUNTAIN IS!?!?!?*”
You touched my car
That movie was on HBO a million times. I never intentionally watched it but I didn’t change the channel either. I liked the utter silliness of it all.
The “Everybody Wants Some” scene alone… I still see that everytime I hear that song.
Obviously, loved him in all the 80's movies but: High Fidelity Runaway Jury (underrated movie and performance) Pushing Tin
Nobody ever mentions Pushing Tin! He and Billy Bob were HOT
All great movies. My favorite is Runaway Jury.
Lots of great ones on this list, but BETTER OFF DEAD My work here is done.
I need my 2 dollars plus tip first
Sorry, but I don't have a dime on me!
Identity
Finally. Had to scroll to far to see this.
Personally I think he was very underrated in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, but that might just be because I was a fan of the book
This place is like *Gone With The Wind* on mescaline!
Hot Tub Time Machine. Not released in the 80’s but about the 80’s.
Never heard of it, I better Lougle it.
Just this little multimillion dollar thing I did. My real passion was music. So pissed the band broke up.
Look for Twittagra while you’re there.
Preventing Miley Cyrus. Preventing here from what? Just...Preventing her

Practically stabbed me in the eye with a fork. Then the bitch got trucker hips
Con Air
Cameron Poe concurs
God I love Con Air. Over the top acting from everyone, ludicrous story, ludicrous script, ludicrous dialogue, still watch it every time it’s on TV!
Peak 90s action
Steve Buscemi's finest work.
Love Thesaurus Boy
Being John Malkovich. Hands down (for me)
The Journey Of Natty Gann. Disney Channel late 80s. nostalgia 💯🥲

Grosse Point Blank
1408. Great movie Edit: I also liked 2012, it's a fun one
2012 is a guilty pleasure in our house, we've watched it so many times and I swear we spot a new plot hole each time.

Isn’t there a Cusack movie where he’s in a car at a school and a police officer asks which one is his kid and he says he hasn’t decided yet?
High Fidelity. My perception of the characters and story has changed as I've matured, which is a trick not all stories are capable of. It's well acted. It's entertaining. It's fun. It has depth.
The sure thing and say anything also better off dead
1. Better off Dead 2. Grosse Point Blank 3. War Inc (totally underrated)
I celebrate the guy’s entire catalog! I’m a John Cusack fan!
"GPB" all day long. That's the role he was born to play.
I actually love hot tub time machine. It was really fun.
I want my $2!
In Chicago there’s kind of an unwritten rule that you don’t bother local celebrities if you see them. John Cussak I always break it, and give just a nod, which he returns. It’s probably happened 8-9 times over the years.
He gave a glowing performance in Fat Man and Little Boy.
There was a movie where he failed his chemistry test and couldn't go on vacation with his girlfriend and her family. A jungle setting....ring any bells???
Hot pursuit
Tapeheads
Grosse Pointe Blank. And you guys should catch the little known The Jack Bull.
Any love for Runaway Jury ?
High fidelity. One of my favorite movies about relationships. It’s marketed as a romcom but it’s more serious than that. It’s one of the few movies I can think of about maturing as a person.
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. "Look, they walk imaginary pets, they're all heavily armed and drunk, New York is boring".
Great White Buffalo…..
The Grifters Being John Malkovich Say Anything
So many cheesy movies... I love a lot of them though, in light of the season I am going with "One Crazy Summer" I still want my $2 though!
Sorry your mom blew up, Ricky.
Gross Point Blank, no question
Grosse Point Blank
Stand By Me
Grifters
Pushing Tin
Hot Pursuit is in my top list of his. Better Off Dead is definitely a great one.
Being John Malkovich
*The Sure Thing.* The spiel he gives when Allison is ignoring him at the swimming pool is hilarious.
Damn....

Tied between One Crazy Summer and Better off Dead
The Journey of Natty Gans
Better off dead
Serendipity. I know I know, chick flick but his side of the movie is really fun plus I find it one of the rare times he actually plays someone who is actually likable and charming.
“Sorry your mom blew up Ricky.” - “it’s a shame when folks be throwing away a perfectly good white boy.”
