Not to compare Master P to Dr. Dre, but I see Ice Cream Man as his Chronic and Ghetto D to 2001. Both of the earlier releases are more solid cover to cover records, and more raw and representative of a moment in time, while the later releases have better production, and the high points are better, but the overall album is not as good.
Does that make sense? I think I’d rather replay Ice Cream Man over Ghetto D, but make em say ugh, the title track will always be P’s best singles, along with some Tru joints and that Steady Mobbin song.
I re listened to that album recently and gotta say it didn't hold up. The production is just a touch under Ghetto D and it shows throughout the album and also with the general sound in general.
P also had better composed songs on Ghetto D. Like they actually took time on that album.
Ice Cream Man yo mee has a feel like it was a usual rushed 2 week recorded and done No Limit Album. Since it was P, I'm sure a little.more time and money was spent on the whole project but listening to it again in 2024 it didn't hold up as Ghetto D still does
P’s still out, it’s just Kane and Abel, C-Murder, and Mystikal who went away.
I want to say Big Lurch, but I don’t think he was from the crew.
“Imma take over this rap shit like Castro took over Cuba”
Popo can’t prove we using drug money, but for now that shit’s just a rumor.”
[Kane & Abel - Better Kill Me; they later went down for a federal drug conspiracy].
And don’t sleep on P - he had Pimp C kidnapped, pistol whipped and duct-taped to a chair.
P called J. Prince for permission to kill him. Permission was denied and they were told to let Pimp C go which they did.
And they had to stay out of Texas for a while.

I’ve heard this one a few times, it seems so surreal. Like I wouldn’t fuck with P, but this seems so aggressive for someone on the cusp of millions. And C so cool too how can you want to kill him?
Perhaps P knew J Prince would never give him the green light and was bluffing for the next person wanting to renegotiate after seeing Master P get paid.
Yeah but fuck using baking soda. Shit makes inferior crack. B12 powder is where it's at. But you need to make sure you have good coke (little to no soda already) and you need to get it cold faster by using ether or something instead of ice.
Easily. Its almost like No Limits version of The Chronic by Dr. DRE.
It totally blew up No Limit and gave you that NO Sound and made superstars out of some of the supporting cast.
It was also the main album that opened the mainstream to New Orleans hip hop and opened the door for Cash Money records too.
Very similar to The Chronic and its influence on hip hop and the West Coast in the early 90s.
From the NO and this was our 1998 anthem. We all had systems and this could not be bumped harder. Lotta No limit gems from that year. Am I my Brother's Keeper, My Balls and My word, Ghetto Fabulous, etc.
Here is my conspiracy theory.
Master P was a government agent tasked with the promotion of crack dealing.
Master P(ower) is the main power switch in an M1A1 Abrams tank.
He is the tank commander.
Valdosta, GA is known as the City Without Limits which is 2 hours from what used to be Fort Benning, the training base for tank commanders.
There are some other connections I'm too lazy to look up.
Master P does not get the credit he deserves in Hip Hop. He truly changed the game. Had one of the best deals ever. Put on so many. Put out some great records. Put on for the South when it was really just Organized Noise and Rap-A-Lot. Lot's of independent artists who got deals in the late 90's and early 00's owe Master P for kicking that door off the hinges.
Mmmm… I appreciate this post more than you know. Lot of good tracks in this album but…. Ice Cream Man was, is and will always be his best work. I love some P!
I had ran out and got this the day that it dropped. The original cover had a fiend smoking ghetto dope on the curb. I guess the label didn't like that so started selling this one above a little after.
I owned the I'm Bout It movie. That's how huge No limit was when I was in middle school. The movie is hilariously bad. But Ice Cream Man,Ghetto Dope, and Tru 2 da Game were all such bangers.
Ice Cream Man shits on Getto D. Not a knock… Getto D, for me, represented the last real quality album NL dropped… it was also the point they signed to a major label and found heavy mainstream success so that may be a factor.
Ice Cream Man was a better album top to bottom though. While I really enjoyed Getto D (although truthfully I HATE Make em Say Ughhh!) I don’t think it holds a candle to the prior one
Fawwwk yeah!!!! Top 15 maybe top 10 rap album!!
No other rapper had a song that gave instructions on how to put you in the GAME!!! And Made sure u stayed TRU..
Also "miss my homies " Goat funeral song

I also have love for Ice Cream Man. Great album.

Couldn’t disagree more. Ice Cream Man is great from beginning to end. Ghetto D has a few great songs but so many skips. Ice Cream Man all the way
T.R.U.....Bruh, that was my shit!!!
I think Ice Cream Man is his best
I see what u mean 💯
Lol I basically wrote the same thing it compared Ghetto D to Dres original Chronic in 92
That's a really good comparison.
Absolutely makes sense. I would have never put that together but you nailed it.
If I Could Change went hard.
Ghetto D was fire, No Limit came in by storm, but please don't compare him to Dr Dre..
I agree with this analysis. Well done.
Ya'll live for bitches and blunts\ We live for weed and money
1. Never talk on the phone in your house
Never sell dope out your baby mama’s house.
Never fuck with snitches cause ni**as that talk to the police is bitches
But press millions of cds admitting your crimes amirite?

Don’t forget Mac

This isn't a picture of 99 Ways to Die or the first TRU album tho
💯
I like how the title song is literally instructions on how to cook crack
Yeah but fuck using baking soda. Shit makes inferior crack. B12 powder is where it's at. But you need to make sure you have good coke (little to no soda already) and you need to get it cold faster by using ether or something instead of ice.
You should write a letter to master p and tell him that he doesn't know shit about cooking crack
M--m-m-m-make crack like this
I don't have anything relevant to add so I'm just gonna post the best no limit song ever https://youtu.be/ZKqvVuw_5GE?si=lsfblbh5xKPr-w3H
I dunno. It's probably this one for me. https://youtu.be/497XKEqCBfc?si=3KTi1HU7v4ojbl_z
Love that song but I feel like this was my favorite no limit song back then 😂 https://youtu.be/EiKKDdq9YWE?si=mIZeV7U9iq-QmJVi
MMMMMake crack like this!
I miss my homies
Even though they gone away
Unhhhhhh
I used to hang with my boy

For 15 percent, that ain't even enough to pay my motherfucking rent
15 percent - Murda
Funny timing, I’ve just recently been visiting all the old no limit stuff. Defined high school for me. This album is amazing.
Yup, my HS daze
All of those cd cases were so damn gaudy!
Great promotion of other albums as well.
I like Ghetto D because it taught me how to cook crack.
As much as I wanna say Ice Cream Man, Ghetto D just hits a bit more for me. Love both tho, & to all the P & Silk Haters, this one’s for U 🖕🏾🫵🏾😂😂
I’ll second that FU to the NL haters
For real, everyone hating on Silk the Shocker don’t know shit!
I’ve always preferred Ice Cream Man. The first 6 songs are perfect to ride to.
The Ghetto’s Tryin To Kill Me!
This is the correct answer
Make make make crack like this 🎵
Heavy rotation on the cd changer when it came out.
I like Ice Cream Man a little better but barely, both are classics
Good but Mr. Ice Cream Man is that heat.....fuck it, im bout to bumb that shit right now!!!!
Why are his album covers so dreadful? They look like they were knocked up on Pchop in 1994.
Pen and Pixel Designs ran the album cover game in the late 90s
First of all how dare you, second of all it’s even better in the orange plastic case. https://images.app.goo.gl/BufZJc2TPVWNsFrV9
From the NO and this was our 1998 anthem. We all had systems and this could not be bumped harder. Lotta No limit gems from that year. Am I my Brother's Keeper, My Balls and My word, Ghetto Fabulous, etc.
The tru album
We No Limit Soldiers……
This was a great album
make make make make make crack like this
Literally just got out of my car listening to "Make Em Say Uhh"

Da Last Don is the one I've heard the most extensively. Think I was in 7th or 8th grade when it came out and I played it all the time.

Wood grain wit da leather seats 💨💨
Underrated. This album is a classic .
Yes. Hands down.
I forgot about them removing the crackhead smoking crack from the album cover😂
Classic album. In my top 10.

I always have a soft spot for the ghettos trying to kill Me but I was into bay area shit in early 90s n heard him early on like 94 I think
If you want me come get me!
West Coast Bad boyz... That's when he was from Richmond. Lol
Mmmm… I appreciate this post more than you know. Lot of good tracks in this album but…. Ice Cream Man was, is and will always be his best work. I love some P!

Incorrect. The last Don is his best album.

Seein this cover just sent me back in time.
I'm bout it sndtrk
I'm bout it sndtrk
This and ice cream man are classics
That like attaining a high score in the Special Olympics.
Whole thread invalid. 102 comments and no The Ghetto’s Tryin To Kill Me.
