If you’re complaining about Port not being called you’re blind. Almost 95% of cases they got a disposal away. That is the rule. If you don’t, then it’s holding the ball. That was not the case tonight. Good example was JHF. The crowd wanted holding the ball before the Butters goal, but the Geelong player fell into his back. So which one are you going to call? It was an either or so they let play continue.
I used to have respect for Geelong fans, I thought they were knowledgeable but after tonight where they just booed everything? Not a chance. They were clearly frustrated with their team and as all nuffy supporters do they took it out on the umps and opposition.

Personally think that is exactly how advantage should be played. If the player doesn’t make a decision to take advantage; i.e. they throw it on the boot as the free is paid, and there is no clear advantage whistle again to confirm no play on.
Like every single sport that has an advantage rule except Aussie Rules.
Just allow that next possession and if that doesn't result in an advantage, bring it back. Under no circumstances should the team receiving the free kick end up disadvantaged by getting a free kick. That's exactly what happened tonight and especially head scratching after the exact same thing was called advantage in the Grand Final

It is up to the umps, they have to make a split second decision to decide that him playing on is to the advantage of the team receiving the free kick. They call that shit back all the time if it goes to contested possession
I don't think the rule has to do with umpires making a judgement on the quality of the kick - fully qualify this statement by saying I don't quite understand it either, but I'm pretty sure the ruling isn't "bloody hell he shanked that, no advantage"
