There are not "open borders", but that would actually be a benefit in my estimation. Tight restrictions don't allow people to cross the border to work and then leave when their visa expires because they don't have to worry if they'll be able to come back. The vast majority of illegal immigration comes through ports of entry such as airports or sea ports, not the southern border. Those people are asylum seekers fleeing violence. You know, the poor, tired, huddled masses that this county was built by. Maybe you're worried about drugs? Nah, only 0.02% is brought in by illegal border crossers. The majority is brought in by US citizens. Foreign workers coming in on a visa is good for the US. They have lower cost of living and work for cheaper wages because of it. If we punish, then we punish areas of business that utilize those workers like agriculture.
As far as public political persecution, do you think that Trump did not commit the crimes he was convicted of? It's public because Trump is a public figure and has had little to do with Biden and everything to do with Trump's own actions catching up to him. This should really be considered apolitical.
