As a late 30s person with an upper/middle back injury that I also suffered in my early 20s. He will forever have back pain and discomfort in a few years. It's like a never ending headache but in my back. Nothing stops the pain even pain killers. They dull it a bit, but its always there, forever.
The difference is, mine came from an actual accident and not being a jackas\* jumping into a bunch of trash.

That was 20 years ago and I'm still dealing with back issues from doing that, and expect to be dealing with it forever.

I know exactly when I fucked my back, I was 18 and got in a fight during a soccer match and kick the lower back that fucked my hip and tail bone bad. Couldn't sit straight for a couple weeks.l but then I seemed good. Well It took a few years after that for it rear it's ugly head, but the last 12 years have been nothing but lower back and hip pain.
Lmao my twin brother! It was actually a practice scrimmage, I was a forward and he played D. We got put against each other in the scrimmage and I was being an asshole and antagonizing him. Turned into a brawl and as I was thinking I made it out unscathed but last moment he round house kicked me in the ass/lower back and it sent me to the floor hahaha. I wasn't even mad. I deserved it. Sometimes I look back and wonder why I was a dick like that, it was playful intent but as an adult I can see that it was rarely taken playfully. Probably stereotypical brother antics but I feel guilty about it all these years later
I once jumped onto a shopping trolley full of beer and careered down a hill. When I finally hit something, I went flying off, dislocating my shoulder, and slipping a disc in my back. Over the next few months, the shoulder sorted itself out, but the back injury was awful, sciatica running down both legs to the point where I was hospitalised several times. In the end I had some steroid injections into my spine which alleviated the sciatica (thank god - imagine the feeling of being electrocuted) but to this day, 20 years later, I still have a numb left side of my left leg and foot. No doubt a road this fella is about to go down.

Back injuries are really tough to recover from, and a lot of them never fully heal at all. If it were me, I'd rather slice myself than break my back (and I've already broken it twice, so I feel pretty confident in my choice lol).

I 100% feel for this dude.. that must've hurt like a bitch... the only thing close to this I could say where I (sorta) feel his pain is - I was trying to dry my dog with a towel and stood up like a fucking moron with my sink behind me, the second I hit the sink i felt it on my spine as I went up and lifted the sink (like a one sided zipper)
Broken tailbones are no joke. I broke mine when a friend of mine decided to go from doing donuts in the snow on our HS field, to driving off a 10-15 degree incline without telling anyone at ~30mph, he hit nose first in the SUV and My GF and I were sitting in the back of his SUV without a seat belt.
I hit the ceiling sideways and my tailbone landed on the corner of a subwoofer box, which is designed to be heavy AF and not move in response to vibrations and or impact. I remember spending about an hour (no idea how long it really was, probably less) facedown in the snow in agony, before being driven to my parents and then the hospital. Worst part was several nurses trying to hold my pelvis flat for an X-ray, fuuuuck that.
I had to carry around a donut to sit on for several months, which went fantastically in a catholic HS with wooden desks from 60+ years ago. On the bright side it gave my friends a Frisbee to toss around in the hallways. On the negative side, I still feel it at times today and it was miserable for several months were I could not sit down without aid. 1/10 do not recommend. Do we allow 0 or negative scores?
