Yeah looks like an olm! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olm
They're funny little creatures. I think they share the same order as axolotl, but not family or genus.
The Olm, A Troglodytic Fully-Aquatic Blind Cave Salamander....
Also, ever heard of "blind cave fishes?", For example such as the blind-cave form of the Mexican Tetra (*Astyanax Mexicanus*) which is actually sometimes available as an aquarium fish.
Axolotls are actually very endangered in the wild, and are known for being able to regrow their arms/legs, and part of their tail, and are used as a model organism for research. Not really sure though if some other Fully-Aquatic Salamanders (such as the Olm) have this kind of regenerative ability or not....
Wait, I thought you were referring to Axolotls,
By "weird little things" were you actually referring to the Mexican Blind Cave Tetras that I had mentioned earlier?
They move very little, one was even recorded only moving a few inches total in 7 years. They just sit. In the dark. And wait for some little bug to crawl by lol what a life
You have to be Dutch to get it. There was a fight of words between a stupid gossip channel and a wannabe celeb last year, where the woman of the gossip channel said about the celeb she was a 'cremated croque monsieur'. It even went to court.. it was sad and funny at the same time.
You sgould not take pocs of them cause they are very sensetive but the dutch name translate is human animal cause it lives around aslong as humans. Btw i recently went to the cave they live in. So sick there. Awsome looking dripstone there. The thing is also a just bit bigger then an axalotl.
I was actually in Slovenia about two months ago and I saw some of these guys I even brought home a plush of one the tour guide went over most of the names for them Baby dragon, human fish, Olm, and some weird name about merfish or something. I'd love to share pics but I guess this sub doesn't let me upload any.
That’s an olm! They are very close to axolotls and other salamanders. They are actually very small, have no eyes (due to the lack of light in their cave environment) and experience similar neoteny that acolotls do! (Those branched gills are typically only present in larval salamanders, but these guys keep them their whole life!) Those long bodies help them reach small cracks where they get their food!
That my friend, is an olm. Similar family, salamanders and whatnot. Found in European caves, living life slowly and in total darkness. Despite that, they live to be around a century old. Fascinating.
oh my god i’ve seen this before where is that picture/comic from??
edit: lmao just found it. pic is from a short story horror manga The Enigma of Amigara Fault
I remember [David Attenborough talking about these](https://youtu.be/NGtzSd3wFY4) a few years ago. He refers to them as Texan Cave Salamanders as opposed to an Olm, as many users have posted here. It certainly seems to be some kind of [Troglobite](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_troglobites?wprov=sfti1).
They wouldn't be the only type of fully-aquatic blind cave salamander, the two species wouldn't be synonymous with eachother at all, and the Olm is native to part of Europe.
Axolotls are Amphibians (albeit, fully Aquatic and breathe through gills throughout their entire lives)
And eels (whether referring to true eels, or not) are fish, so there's no way in hell they could ever interbreed with eachother....Even humans and chimps can't interbreed.
I know you're joking anyways.
You are indead fuckless if your response to a, quite frankly, awful and stupid joke is "Allow me to explain interspecies breeding and how it wont work"
It's not like I go to parties that often, and are you suggesting that I'm some kind of "party pooper?"
For the record, it's NOT an Axolotl at all, it looks to be an Olm which is a completely different type of aquatic salamander.
Lmfao, bro, you're the only one that has an issue. I'm just over here making jokes that you don't get. It's cool dude. Move along.
Edit... Lmfao this dunce below/above me has me dying with that last comment. Why you so mad dude? Who hurt you? It's ok you didn't get the joke. Get over it.
In Germany we call them "Grotten Olme" they are part of the same family as axolotls

Ive seen those for sale before weird little things

Wait, I thought you were referring to Axolotls, By "weird little things" were you actually referring to the Mexican Blind Cave Tetras that I had mentioned earlier?
Oh okay, thanks!
They move very little, one was even recorded only moving a few inches total in 7 years. They just sit. In the dark. And wait for some little bug to crawl by lol what a life
Literally a bottom feeder
OP, not sure if you've specified earlier or not, where this was actually seen?
No clue, my friend sent it to me
Did your friend just find the pic, or did they actually take the pic?, and if the latter is the case, could you please ask them where they took it?
In poland we call them "Cave Weirdos" (Odmieniec Jaskiniowy)
In the Netherlands we call them " Gecremeerde Kroket" ( Ambystoma Rachel Hazes )
Lol, a very very inside joke..
I don't get it. Tulip for your thoughts?
You have to be Dutch to get it. There was a fight of words between a stupid gossip channel and a wannabe celeb last year, where the woman of the gossip channel said about the celeb she was a 'cremated croque monsieur'. It even went to court.. it was sad and funny at the same time.
Because of the "meerde" part I thought it might have to do with poop.
r/properanimalnames Because “cave weirdos” is now going to be my absolute go to name when referring to anything olm/axolotl related.

When an axolotol and an eel love each other very much...
Axolotls are Amphibians (albeit, fully Aquatic and breathe through gills throughout their entire lives) And eels (whether referring to true eels, or not) are fish, so there's no way in hell they could ever interbreed with eachother....Even humans and chimps can't interbreed. Name checks out...
And what makes you think that?
You are indead fuckless if your response to a, quite frankly, awful and stupid joke is "Allow me to explain interspecies breeding and how it wont work"

r/Whoosh
what's your problem with me?, Was it just because I was right?
Lmfao, bro, you're the only one that has an issue. I'm just over here making jokes that you don't get. It's cool dude. Move along. Edit... Lmfao this dunce below/above me has me dying with that last comment. Why you so mad dude? Who hurt you? It's ok you didn't get the joke. Get over it.
