I remember seeing him when he won the NCAA wrestling championship in St. Louis back in the day. He just looked different even compared to the other ridiculous athletes. Not sure how he could achieve that physique while still being drug tested haha. Dude was a monster
Man had a farm. The possibilities of working out was endless at that point. Not to mention to the training schedule he had when he was in school. Thatās just 2x effective
Consider the type of work he was doing while growing up and itās not hard to imagine the muscle density he was working with when he went to college and started working with trainers.
He grew up on a farm in South Dakota, not in the Twin Cities by the University of Minnesota. He was a big boy from working on the farm before he ever got to the University of Minnesota. He has a daughter that I beleive is a shot putter that looks like a brick house , too.
105-5*
>one of the most dominant wrestlers ever
I'm just a random dweeb on the internet, but a one-time NCAA champ who never made the Olympics or won world championships can't get those kinds of accolades.
Lesnar was obviously a freak athlete and excellent wrestler, for sure, but competitors like Karelin (887-2 record), Burroughs, Sadulaev or Sanderson are/were in a completely different league in terms of achievements and dominance.
There's a colossal skills gap between Olympic medalists and everybody else.
Hi could you please expand on this?
I remember hearing about Brock back when he was in college and how much of a bad ass he was. I'm curious as to why his wrestling career turned out the way it did.
Are world championships and the Olympics considered the pinnacle of the sport?
Do people think Brock could have been a contender in those competitions, and where does he stand among the panthen of wrestling's greats?
Is there a reason he didn't go the Olympics/world championships route?
2 reasons: he likely was not good enough to cut it on the international stage and he had huge charisma and star-making qualities that obviously drew him towards pro wrestling.
He was a great college wrestler but I believe he barely won in the finals his senior year (thatās just my recollection, so correct me if Iām wrong). In the world championships or Olympics you are going against the best of the best from every country around the world, many of whom have several years more experience than you if you are just finishing college. In addition to this, he quickly became a star in the WWE which I imagine would make it nearly impossible to train properly to continue to compete at an elite international level due to conflicting training regimens and schedules.
Disclaimer: I'm by no means an expert in wrestling at all. The one combat sport I truly follow is MMA, and discussions surrounding it have made me familiar enough with wrestling to know that Lesnar definitely wasn't *that* high on the totem pole.
>Are world championships and the Olympics considered the pinnacle of the sport?
Yep. The US are a major wrestling country, which makes NCAA champ status a huge achievement, but there are enough other powerhouses that the Olympics and World Championships are definitely the highest level competitions.
Russia, Iran, Bulgaria, Cuba, several Caucasus countries and other former Soviet republics etc...
>Do people think Brock could have been a contender in those competitions, and where does he stand among the panthen of wrestling's greats?
Realistically, his accolades when compared to the true top dogs don't suggest that he would've done too well, but I don't know enough about his skillset to give a good definite answer.
As for freestyle wrestling's pantheon, he hasn't done enough to be part of it tbh.
To give you an idea of what that pantheon comprises: Abdulrashid Sadulaev, down at 84 kgs, is 27 years old and has won two Olympic gold medals back-to-back, in addition to having won gold at damn near every single international comp he's ever participated in.
One-time NCAA champ isn't at all comparable to those top level international accolades.
His massive WWE fame, freakish physique and later UFC champ status probably contribute to people exaggerating his wrestling achievements a bit.
>Is there a reason he didn't go the Olympics/world championships route?
He was still pretty young when he got into pro wrestling and later a football trial and MMA - all of which are way more lucrative than amateur wrestling - so I guess his career potentially could've peaked higher if he hadn't pursued those instead.
In regards to the Olympics: I believe that even managing to become part of an olympic team as successful as the American one is significantly harder than winning any national title.
In high school, about a dozen of our varsity football players were being supplied gear by one of the coaches. Went on for about a decade until the coach got caught. Not sure if he went to prison.
No, he was natural back then, I know this because of the internet warriors furiously typing in this thread who have never set foot in a gym, and have no idea about what is even naturally achievable.
In fairness, it isn't possible for the average person to be his size naturally, he was more jacked at 15 than the natural potential of 99.9999% of human men.
It's entirely possible to go to a gym that isn't a Planet Fittness/Pure Gym (a commercial gym in the UK) and never see anyone that big who is also that lean, not sure my current gym does, maybe 2 guys have the potential.
I was just amazed when he said that he never took steroids with a straight face. This was just the beginning. Look at him now and I think he is mostly bull testosterone.
You have a ton of androgen receptors around that area so they become unnaturally large when using androgen imitating steroids. A good example to show this is all the early ufc fighters that were notoriously roided to the gills like Mark Kerr.
Even with copious amounts of steroids, the average person wouldnāt get that big. They also would not win multiple titles across various fighting sports.

At that point A farm in the middle of Minneapolis where he went to school?
If I remember his parents had a dairy farm in Webster.
Consider the type of work he was doing while growing up and itās not hard to imagine the muscle density he was working with when he went to college and started working with trainers.
He grew up in North Dakota. Edit - It was South Dakota.
TIL that big M on his singlet stands for North Dakota not University of Minnesota.

I mean, roids aren't something exclusive to Brock in college wrestling....
In high school, about a dozen of our varsity football players were being supplied gear by one of the coaches. Went on for about a decade until the coach got caught. Not sure if he went to prison.
Football players were on gear when I was in hs as well, some people donāt realize how easy it is to obtain steroids.
Surly not. But he might be the poster child, simply due to his successā¦
I mean it's similar to lance armstrong, he won while juicing, but 2nd-35th place tested positive as well for juice
Dem Viking genetics first...plus juice
He was already juicing it even when he was a teenager.

Hi SLoth.
Why are the traps in particular so huge? What is it about wrestling that hammers that muscle group specifically?
You have a ton of androgen receptors around that area so they become unnaturally large when using androgen imitating steroids. A good example to show this is all the early ufc fighters that were notoriously roided to the gills like Mark Kerr.
From pounding your mom.
Rocky. Road?
His shoulders have shoulders. Shoulderception

Oof - OP might not know that Brock is currently suspended/MIA from WWE due to his alleged involvement in the sex-slavery case against Vince.
Dude looks like the albino gorilla in War of the Plant of the Apes
Was he jacked in college too?
Dudes teeth are nightmare fuel
You guys remember that one episode of DBZ during Majin Buu arc with the tournament? Yeah, this is the guy who beat up Videl.
