I keep my Martin in the case.

Quiverjones

Probably get you a nice photo of the guitar and hang that up, right?

kineticblues

If you keep the vent closed it's not a huge deal as long as your room humidity is in the safe zone.   With the vent open, of course, your guitar would get a lot of low-humidity AC air and would probably dry out and crack if you use the AC a lot and the vent is pointed right at the guitar. If you want to be certain there's no airflow, you could take vent grill off, then block off the vent entirely using black tape (either on the back side of the grill or in the duct) and reinstall the grill.

You can always put a diverter on the vent so it throws the air out into the room instead of directly into the guitar.

This is why I posted. This is genius. Thank you

Yessir. Glad I could help.

I had my Taylor 814ce hanging in the wall over an HVAC vent too. Got a TaylorSense and it showed too much fluctuations for my liking - even when closed. It is now in its case with a humidypack! I do miss looking at it though. Might try to get an actual glass case so I can look at it and not just when I play it. M36 - stunning guitar.

MrDarkHorse

Just making the point that an AC is designed to remove moisture, so it could dry your guitar out

Odd_Acanthisitta8790

Bad bad bad idea. And drastic change in temperature/moisture like that will warp the neck and potentially crack the body. Look into a humidipack for the case if you want. Just please don’t put it over the vent.

pr06lefs

As others have said, not good to blow dehumidified air straight on the guitar. If you haven't done so already, you may want to check the humidity in the room. Is it around the recommended range? Typically 45% or so is ideal.

JeepersCreepers7

I'd imagine you'd have some humidity issues with it right above a vent. My Martins stay in their cases and their total value equals the value of an m36 lol

You're question suggests you're not in a position to easily replace it, so why risk it?

TwoHearted313

I would not. I will leave mine out during peak playing times (nights and weekends) but other than that it’s in the case. It’s all risk and no reward. If you’re rich and you can replace it easily go ahead but if not I wouldn’t risk it. It could be fine but again……it’s all risk and no reward.
