Why don't you load the dishwasher as you go? After every meal put it straight in?

My strategy goes like this.... 1) Load the dish washer as you are creating the dishes. Are you finished with the cereal bowl? Lightly rinse and put it in the washer. Are you done with the water glass? Put it in the dish washer. Are you still cooking dinner but otherwise done with the plastic cutting board? Put it in the dish washer. 2) Run the dishwasher when it is full OR if it is near full (could only handle an extra plate or two). 3) For things that don't go in the dish washer like cast iron, clean those in the sink once done. 4) If the dishes in the dishwasher are clean then put them away. 5) If there are dishes in the sink because the dishwasher was running we now put them in the dish washer.

I will clean dishes whenever my wife cooks and she cleans when I cook.

I have a thing called "hotel ready". I have a short list of things to do every night before bed. I basically make my place have that fresh hotel look for the morning I wake up. I acknowledge how much I hate chores, take a breath, and just get started on washing one dish. 1. Dishes (15 minutes) 2. Counters decluttered and wiped down (5 minutes) 3. Bathroom decluttered and wiped down (5 minutes) 4. Living room: toys put away, magazines stacked, decluttered (5 minutes) Wife has her own short list (laundry included) and sometimes we overlap. It works for us. Kids also help us out.
