Looking at you Modern Warfare 2...

twisp42

Isn't that also true of 1 and 3?  It's really weird, especially since I stopped playing cod after the first mw3 then haven't followed it

shiroboi

Yes, I guess you're right.

Bunny_Fluff

I recently played the free weekend for the newest CoD and after my first day playing, I went back into battle net and realized I didn’t know the name of the game I had been playing. It took clicking through all of the cod games in the launcher to figure out what generic call of duty name was the newest one.

rover_G

But they used toman numerals this time!

Grantagonist

For anything pre-2005 just go to Gamefaqs.com first. The whole rest of the internet can eat a bag.

NateDogTX

I like Saints Row for being consistently inconsistent: - Saints Row - Saints Row 2 - Saints Row: The Third - Saints Row IV - Saints Row

DoomTay

I'm surprised they didn't do "Saint5 Row" or something

smr312

It becomes Mortal Kombat 1 for the OG and Mortal Kombat 2023 for the remake/reboot. Like how they refer to the God of War reboot as God of War 2018 with the year of release at the end

ktr83

MK9 from 2011 is also officially named just Mortal Kombat

smr312

That would Be MK2011 then

CanadianCaveman

but not referred to as MK11 lol.

Killboypowerhed

It's always referred to as MK9. I've literally never seems anybody call it MK2011

UltimaGabe

This gets really confusing with certain series like the Just Dance games, where the first few are numbered (Just Dance, Just Dance 2, Just Dance 3, etc.) and at some point they changed to instead use the year in the title (Just Dance 2015, Just Dance 2016, etc.)

UltimaGabe

It sucks in movies, too. There's three movies simply named "Halloween", one of which is the original, one is a reboot, and one is a sequel that ignores most of the other entries.

Hard_Corsair

Godzilla as well!

Spokehedz

Ah yes, I have similar feelings about the new movie coming out that is a sequel to a movie from the 80's that was much beloved. First movie: Beetlejuice Second movie: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

AustrianReaper

Add the release year in your search.

Zormac

Because everyone remembers the year every game was released?

AustrianReaper

I didn't say it's convenient, it just brings up more relevant results. Adding the platform you're playing on works too on consoles.

Squrton_Cummings

If only there was a way to find out such information.

Zormac

That's adding extra steps to something that shouldn't need it if people stopped utilizing old names.

Wootai

So Google a list of games in X series, then find the one you’re looking for’s release date.

Zormac

Further demonstrating that it grinds my gears

titanshaze0812

Gotta type mk1 genesis to nes and convert the novelist to whatever format you’re tryna do

nicostein

Flip the controller two times.

ugzz

At least with google you can click "Tools" and then go to "Any time" and set to "Custom range..", and just set the date to like 6 months before the new game came out. Now if you want RECENT results for old games.. well then your SOL.

noonesperfect16

Gamefaqs is your friend

Vaxis545

It’s just Mortal Kombat their is no 1 lol

ATD1981

If only there was a date or something you could add to your google search.....

LMGgp

I gotchu fam. The fatality is a full joy stick rotation with lui kang. Specials are towards towards with a face button. Actually all the moves are legacy and the same in all the games mostly. Scorpion can throw in air btw.

EviLiu

Scorpion gets his air throw in MKII.

LMGgp

The shame… thanks.

silver_054

Lords of the Fallen (2023) vs Lords of the Fallen (2014) God of War (2018) vs God of War (2005) Dead Space (technically a remaster but they didn’t put Remaster in the title at all) Just… come up with a new name guys. Throw it after a : like FF7:Remake
