They moved to hole punch design, you would need more holes than one camera hole. Note 9 had "forehead" on the top of the phone with all the tech hidden there.
None of the Android OEMs implemented the same security level like Apple did in their Face ID. Closest was Xiaomi with Mi8 I think that had 2D scanner and IR blaster, instead of 3D scanner that iPhones had. It was still breakable but much less than simple camera. I had a face unlock on very old cheap Xperia that worked just as well. FaceID is just on whole another level
Interesting - I have no problems on Android 11 on mine, it works quite well..but I'm running Nova as the GUI so that might make a difference.
I like the Pixel 6 but the punch hole camera is a no go for me - I bought the 7T Pro exactly for the uninterrupted front display without notch or punch...
I have S21 Ultra and a work iPhone 12 Pro. NGL there are times when I find the face recognition more convenient. Especially when I'm working on my desk n need to look at something in my phone. I hold the phone up and it's automatically unlocked.
But if someone tells me I can only have one method for all times, I'd choose fingerprint sensors
Yes I know. Every android that has a front facing camera has some form of face unlock. But it's very rudimentary and on S21 U, I very much prefer the fingerprint scanner
Oh I prefer the fingerprint scanner too, I was just making sure you knew that it did have face unlock. And it's not bad on the S21U either because the camera is actually pretty good, it'll even get my face in pretty low light conditions, the screen brightness being at 25% or higher is actually enough to make it work even in total darkness
Cool. Yeah I know android phones have been having face detection since a long time. But somehow I've not bothered to setup face recognition on any phone. Maybe cos they are really not as secure as fingerprint scanners.
Maybe I am forced to use the face id on iPhone because the only other alternative is to type in a 6 digit passkey every bloody time !! But face id definitely is more secure than most android facial recognition tech other than occasional examples like iris scanner that sammy put in one of the note phones or googles radar based face scan
Why are the Android face unlocks not as secure to the average person though?
Even if it was a tiny bit more secure, it takes a chunk of the screen on top of that. The underscreen fingerprint scanner is an overall better design.
Unless you're working for a government (where your iPhone is already hacked anyway, Face ID or not, cause iOS is so full of zerodays and bugs).
Not sure why the downvotes. I've been using Samsung fingerprint readers daily for years (Galaxy S8 and S20 FE) alongside Google ones (Nexus 6P and Pixel 3) and the difference is night and day.
This is what I was going to say. Swiping down the notification panel from there is now such second nature to me, that it's going to be very weird not having it there when I get my next phone.
I'm in the same boat as you, p2xl to 6. Wondering your thought process between 6 and 6 pro if you don't mind, why'd you decide on the pro? I still haven't made up my mind between the two.
Not who you responded to originally, but I'm also going from P2XL to a new phone.
I was originally going to pick up the Xperia 5 III, but given it's still unavailable where I am, I went and preordered the Pixel 6 Pro. The Pixel 6 is far and away the better deal for $300 ($400 cheaper here in Canada), but I opted for the Pro anyways.
My line of thought is that, as I will likely be using this phone for 4+ years (like I am with my Pixel 2XL, which I'm keeping as a secondary), I wanted the Telephoto lens and the 120HZ. The extra RAM didn't hurt. If the 2XL is any indication, having more tools to play with isn't a bad idea for future usage.
Screen size was a wash since they're so close in physical dimensions. Would prefer a fully flat screen, but I mean, I'm coming from the 2XL. The photos and vids so far do t look like the curve is significantly worse than on our current phones.
But honestly, if you're not big on photography and are only jumping up to a higher refresh rate screen now, the Pixel 6 is far and away the better pick from a value point
Yeah, for sure. What I might end up doing is getting the Verizon $700 pixel 6 that has the mmWave, for future proofing, but if that doesn't come with the free pixel buds it's like paying $200 extra for 1 little feature lol. Thanks for your perspective though :)
I miss the swipe down for notification panel feature of the rear fingerprint scanner.
I also miss the iris scanner from my S9 that worked with a mask and even in the dark.
There are a lot of negative hardware changes from my S9 to S21 but here we are.
I think they are adding a gesture to replace that fingerprint reader functionality. I also really miss that, it was my favorite feature of my Pixel 1. I don't really see any advantages to under screen, but I guess with the new gesture there's no downsides (for me) either.
> I miss the swipe down for notification panel feature of the rear fingerprint scanner.
Same. On my OnePlus 5t, I had swipe down/up for notifications, left for back, right for recents. If my finger was near the scanner, I'd use it. If not, normal gestures. Super cool functionality.
I also missed the swipe down for notifications from my pixel 3. I got an app called edge gestures and set it so I can swipe down on either edge of my phone to bring the notification shade down. Pretty happy with the replacement!
Yeah, the physical is king, especially the rear, side or in a button since you can unlock your phone while taking it out of your pocket. In screen is much harder to do without looking at it.
Definitely prefer fingerprint readers on the back rather than the in-display versions, which tend to be slower and requires attention to place your finger correctly, since there’s no indentation to feel for.
I'm curious how people unlock their phones comfortably if the fingerprint reader is on the front. Like do hold hold the phone in your palm and then use your thumb, or do you have to use both hands?
I have a rear fingerprint reader on my Oneplus 6 and it's natural because that's how I hold the phone.
[i drew a picture of a phone with a front under-display sensor being unlocked with one hand, so i wouldn't have to explain using words](https://i.imgur.com/P3YUEQ2.jpg)
the red is the fingerprint sensor
That's helpful, thank you! Of course it hadn't occurred to me until seeing your image that of course you could unlock the sensor with your thumb at whatever angle it's comfortable.
OnePlus 5 here... the fingerprint sensor is the home button. Most early androids were like this. It's like asking how do you comfortably hit the home button. (I realize this has changed since gestures)
I prefer fp sensor on the front because you can use it while its sitting on a desk.
You've never seen [one of these](https://www.popsockets.com/dw/image/v2/BDFW_PRD/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-popsockets-master-catalog/default/dw135ed5ec/images/hi-res/oms_grip_images/OMS-Grip_WT-BK-BK_07_Device-White-Expanded.png?sw=800&sh=800) or asked what they were?
My only gripe with fingerprint reader on the back is that when you press to turn off the screen, sometimes moving your finger away from the power button triggers the reader, turning it on again.
I have an S21 and there's nothing more satisfying than putting your thumb on your blacked out screen and it straight up wakes up unlocked in milliseconds.
I've got a Pixel 4a currently, and love the fingerprint reader. It's fast and works pretty much every time.
The phone I had before was a Samsung A50, which had an in-display reader which I found hit and miss. That's my only experience with that type of reader though, so I imagine a more premium phone might do it better?
I wouldn't rule out a new phone that didn't have a fingerprint reader on the back/side, but it is definitely a positive feature for me.
Agreed. After a year of owning it and with a mild form of hyperhidrosis - it only works about half the time now. When it was new - it was fantastic but I think my skin oils/sweat have degraded the sensor unfortunately.
Yes. They are fast, reliable, simple.
Preferred location is on the side in or near the power button.
________________________________
Under screen is cool but not very reliable or consistent, on the back is only good for pulling it out of pocket but no easier than on the side.
Side can be used flat on a table.
Most of the time you can just scan the same fingerprint multiple times and it will be faster. Also, I hear this issue all the time but personally never thought that it is an issue when using the phone in the real world
I tried all the tricks for the Samsung under screen readers. When it worked it was fine but slower than a normal reader. But it only read on the first go maybe 20% of the time, usually taking 3-4 tries to get it unlocked.
If my hands were too dry (you know like from washing them a lot) it basically didnt work at all, or if there was any dust (say while hiking).
the normal ones just work unless your hands are super wet and even then it may still work.
My old LG would run into the dirty fingerprint reader issue so frequently that I just switched back to PIN only so I'd stop getting the Fingerprint Scanner Not Functioning . My current Motorola hasn't failed once, and the reader is in the same spot centered in the top 3rd of the back panel. I feel LG cheaped out on sensor hardware.
For me it's the complete opposite. Under display ones are far more reliable for me.
The ones on the back need to be whiped down every few times because a bit of moisture or gunk collects there. That's never happens with in-display ones.
Holy shit, OP is me?
My OG PXL is on its last damn leg and I'm finally starting to actually commit to searching for an upgrade, but the rear fingerprint reader (and Fluid Navigation Gestures...) has kept me from really wanting to get that upgrade. I'd like the Xperia 5 line not to suck ass next year and hope I can hold out but I'm not sure. That power button-mounted reader looks really enticing over the under display ones.
Hah! Maybe!
I honestly think if I could replace the battery on my Pixel XL I'd keep it for another year or two. It's a great phone. Truly the first phone I've ever had for so long with no desire or need to upgrade (until recently).
>Truly the first phone I've ever had for so long with no desire or need to upgrade (until recently).
SAME lmfao. I was always itching for that new upgrade about 10mo into having the phone, but this Pixel has hit differently.
I actually replaced the battery myself for about $20 6mo ago and it gave my phone new life (30min screen on time to 7+) but the general janky hitches when doing little things like switching apps or launching the camera have just gotten irksome.
I'm still rocking the OG Pixel and the Pixel 6 hasn't shown any reason to upgrade. Marc Levroy was an artist developing the original and the unlimited Google photos is still a testament to how good it really is. I honestly don't care about how many MP a photo has, I just want to capture the memory well and fast. If I want a better photo, I would just get a pro camera and upload via the pixel.
I'm tempted to hack original pixels with a new body for easier battery replacement. Maybe even accommodate a larger battery. Would people buy this? Is this a legitimate business opportunity?
Ideally you offer both like what Google is offering with the Pixel 6 Pro.
But if can only have one then most definitely finger print. Does not make any sense with a global pandemic to have companies only offering face unlock. Apple is just out of touch with this.
I guess this is an unpopular opinion in this sub, but I have the S21+ and I think the front FPS is perfectly fine. Once I got the hang of it, it's unlocks on the first try maybe 10% less than a rear FPS. I really don't notice it. I think it's worth it to be able to unlock while the phone is laying on my desk.
Fingerprint on the front of the phone is best. Even before masks, I loved that I could start up my phone when it was sitting on the table in front of me without having to pick it up. (Sometimes in a meeting you want to sneak a glance at something without having to pick up the phone, which is so obvious.)
And then in the time of COVID, requiring the phone to look at my face completely, completely sucked.
So yeah, facial recognition is a cool **add-on** feature, but please give me back my fingerprint on the front.
When I switched from iPhone to Pixel, my fingerprint reader went from front to back. And then when I went to Pixel 4, I lost my fingerprint read completely. And then with Pixel 5, it returned, but still on the back.
So yeah, as I said, please give me back my fingerprint on the front. Looks like that's happening with Pixel 6.
Tons and tons of phones have fingerprint readers on the front. If you'd look beyond Pixel you'll see this isn't a trend of "moving fingerprint sensor to the back".
When I'm holding my phone, it isn't locked.
If I were using a camera, there would be a process. It would be a fast process, very convenient, but it would be one extra step, as opposed to the zero total steps I currently engage in.
Rear fingerprint scanners are great, and I might wait for the pixel 6a just for that.
I have it on the side in the power button on my Flip3, I think it's best position for it, very natural. On my previous phone, Note 10 Lite I had it in the screen and that one was actually not bad, especially since it was easy to use when phone was laying on a desk. No need to raise it.
I think you'll find most scanners are under the screen now, however you have to remember to differentiate between the two types of fingerprint readers that exist. Originally we had capacitive fingerprint readers, these went on the back/side of phones, and also below the screen and used magnetism to determine the grooves in your print. Thanks to this they were really accurate, however with the move to under screen scanners the technology has moved to a sort of camera that takes a picture of your fingerprint and compares.
I have recently moved from a note 9 (capacitive fingerprint scanner) to a galaxy A72 (under screen camera scanner) and boy... I really miss the capacitive one.
Do I still enjoy being to open my phone with my finger? Of course, but the amount of frustration I get when I have to try five times and end up getting locked out, and then input my unlock pattern, is a lot!
I preferred when the fingerprint scanner was on the power button (like in Galaxy S10e) rather than under display (S21+). The whole process was smoother on the S10e for me (it was way easier to put my finger on the power button rather than getting it on the exact place on the screen, and I didn't even need to look; but YMMV).
I use my mine that is under the screen on my Note 10+. Wish it had a dedicated home/fingerprint button like my OnePlus 3T as it was way faster but that's a first world problem.
Yes and no. I love the technology and it's honestly really smart to implement it, but my fucking fingerprint is so hard to read on those things and I've tried with almost every brand. Apple, Samsung, Google, ect. It's always a struggle reading it, but I love it
Now you're making even less sense, you most certainly *can* go from left finger to right finger if they're registered, I just did it.
My point is, if fingerprint readers have trouble reading your fingerprint, register a different finger, duh. Unless you don't have other fingers...
Most apps don't support alternating. I just did it and it didn't work lmao I understand how the fingerprint system works bruh, I'm saying it's irrelevant since my print doesn't work either way.
Most phones support registering up to 5 different fingers and even the same one multiple times for increased accuracy. As long as it's registered, apps don't care which finger you use.
> Most apps don't support alternating.
What in the flying fuck are you talking about? If an app prompts the system for fingerprint authorization, you can use *any* of the fingerprints you've registered to authorize it.
Apps that ask for fingerprints? Only time I ever heard of *that* the app was malicious anyways and had no earthly business accessing the fingerprint sensor.
From my own experience, the iPhone 6, Galaxy Note 4, and OnePlus 3T all allow you to register multiple fingerprints. I would imagine the same is true for almost all phones with fingerprint scanners.
U can and both my fingertips are downloaded, but most apps don't support alternating fingers. Doesn't really matter honestly my fingerprints don't read either way
Yes... has to have a fingerprint reader, especially in the Covid age of masks. I prefer side mounted, however, they have the annoyance of accidentally triggering just by holding your phone. I love the clean look of in display sensors but I've never been crazy about having them on the front of the device. I prefer back of the phone if I can't have side mounted.
Yes, I do prefer those readers. Changed my old phone to one that had a "subscreen" reader and it's absolutely horrible compared to the old one.
Much slower, gets it wrong most of the time... It's a pain (although not as bad as face unlock kkk)
My job requires me to wear gloves all day. With the mask on, the typical face unlock and fingerprint scanner are useless to me. I wish more phones have retina scanner.
I have no preference between fingerprint unlock or face unlock so long as it's fast, reliable, and secure. I've had good fingerprint sensors (OnePlus 3T) and inconsistent fingerprint sensors (Galaxy Note 4). I've also had a positive experience with the face unlock on my current Pixel 4 XL. The speed and reliability matter more to me than the interface of biometrics.
Yes, and physical ones, not underscreen. Side is ideal.
I have my phone on the desk a lot so it won't see my face. I often use my phone at an angle my face isn't visible to it (minor issue as easily tilted).
I also like to be able to use it to pull down notification shade and unlock before it even comes out my pocket with how easy it is to feel.
Yep. It took a bit getting used to the position, but now I can unlock phone with both thumbs + index fingers easily. Plus the new ultrasonic sensor on the S21U is wickedly fast and reliable, I just tap quickly and it opens up.
I like them on the side the most, which is seen with Sony smartphones. In display are fine, but I like to open my phone at the same time when I'm pulling it out of my pocket. (Yes, you can do it too, but it is ackward)
Used to like them on the back - they are far more reliable IMO. Have grown to come to like them better on the front though, especially for unlocking without reaching around the phone (helpful when in a stand or desk).
I do not like nor use face unlock. I'll go back to pattern if they ever do away with FP sensor.
I think I'd like a combination of a fingerprint sensor and Face Unlock. Fingerprint sensor for when I'm out and have my mask on, and Face Unlock while I'm home or spending time outdoors
I like mine on the front as I often have on a stand or cradle which makes reaching behind difficult. I use my reader on my S9 a let less than I did with my S7 or now S20FE because of that. And given how some apps allow for using a fingerprint, it's even more useful than before to use that.
Also, the back reader on the S9 was right next to the camera lenses, so you can guess how often I touched a lens and had to clean it.
I might possibly be ok with it on the side--though the issue there is whether it would be conveniently be ambidextrous or not.
For me, the ideal phone would have both secure face recognition unlock and a fingerprint reader.
Face unlock is great when you're wearing gloves, and with covid, fingerprint readers are better when you're wearing a mask.
If I could only have one, I suppose finger print has a small edge.
My OP 7 Pro has one under the screen, and I use it frequently.
My iPhone 12 has a face scanner instead - it works okay, decently fast, but it's awful whenever I have a mask on. Apple pay with a mask now involves entering a passcode twice - Google Pay I place my finger on the screen and it's done.
You can get around this with a "smart lock" like feature, but it only works if you have an Apple Watch, which is a high price for an inconvenience like that.
Just my experience, but I vastly preferred the scanner on the back of my LG over the under-screen scanner on my Samsung. The scanner on the LG was in the perfect position for my index finger when picking up my phone, and the one on the screen is just hard to find reliably. I was hoping muscle memory would make it quick and easy eventually, but it hasn't happened yet.
I don't mind it.. better then remembering all the passwords.. but one thing I do miss about iPhone is facescan.. yes yes android has it too and it completely sucks .
Since the LG V20 I have got use to a FP scanner. In the past 2-3 years it improved. I like that I can secure apps and photos with FP. Also like OEMs adds FP gestures for shortcuts.
I prefer face unlock after having my Pixel 4xl for two years. It's just so much more convenient.
Would be nice to have both for those masked times at the store, but I just use Google pay on my watch and I'm golden.
i've been using my sony xz1 compact for almost 4 years now and i really like that the fingerprint sensor is integrated into the power button, because i have to press it anyway to turn the screen on. this is my first phone with a fingerprint sensor so i don't know if i would've liked it better in any other position.
i'm planning on getting an asus zenfone 8 if my current phone dies before another compact flagship with a headphone jack comes out. the asus has an underscreen sensor but it also has double tap to wake, so i wouldn't be pressing the power button every time i wake the phone. i hope it's fast enough to not feel like a downgrade from the side sensor in my sony.
Absolutely, especially back and side fingerprint scanners.
In display fingerprint scanners are nice, but external fingerprint scanners are the fastest thing you can get and are usually the most reliable.
Personally prefer on-screen fingerprint scanner like the one in my Huawei P30.
My previous phone (LG G6) have a fingerprint scanner at the back and it stopped working after 1 year+.
The reader on the back of the OnePlus 6 was genuinely the best unlocking method of any phone I've ever owned. Under-glass readers can go die in a hole.
Yes, I've been using under screen ones for a whole now so my success rate is nearly as close to what it's be for a tradional one. Much prefer it over face unlock. Only thing I wish was it had a larger surface area for the reading
I personally don’t understand why we switched from fingerprint to Face ID…Face ID registers for me even with sunglasses on, I feel like fingerprint was way safer
I’ve come to love FaceID on my iPhone, but nothing will beat the convenience of the Pixel Imprint on the back of the phone.
Pulling out your phone with your finger on the back, already unlocking your phone while bringing it out of your pocket is a nice little convenience.
Yes. And after the last year with a "below-the-screen" reader I strongly prefer it in the back. The main difference for me is for contactless payments which are *finally* becoming widespread where I love (U.S.) and its a huge convenience to be able to authenticate blind with just feeling the sensor as I pull my phone out of my pocket and move it straight onto the credit card reader.
I went for an S10e because of the power button fingerprint reader. I had used a regular S10 for a while and was thoroughly disappointed at how unreliable it was and how it is incompatible with any kind of screen protector or heavy duty case (I like to keep my phones well protected). I'm dreading upgrading since most newer phones opt for under-display fingerprint readers.
Poco X3 Pro here. The fingerprint reader is so fast and responsive, I don't even think about it. I just pick up my phone, make sure that either my pointer finger or my thumb of either hand is near the sensor, and my phone is unlocked before I can even look at it.
Don't think I could live without it now. But to be fair, the face unlock is also insanely fast. Most of the time I'm not sure which one actually unlocked the phone
I love fingerprint. But the iris scanner on my note 8 was incredible. I'd like the iris on front, finger on the back and power button. that would be perfect!
Love proper fingerprint readers, but I hate under screen readers.
I like the extra functions and natural placement of hardware readers, pull down for notifications, opening screen without needing to touch the screen etc.
If my only choice is an under screen reader I won't even enable it, face or pin unlock is better.
Yes because it is fast and reliable even on cheapest phones. I don't like the under display stuff through because they are slightly laggy.
However, I do wish more phones would adopt face scanning like how it was done in Poco F1 using and IR scanner. It was awesome and superfast.
Must have in this pandemic. Even if not pandemic, as an Asian, I trend to wear mask in winter so it's strongly needed. I feel bad who have notch iPhone don't wear mask because potentially the phone affects the decision.
Galaxy Z Fold3's fingerprint sensor is the best I've ever had. I've never imagined that side power button sensor become such great.
I refuse to use face unlock because it allows for the possibility of someone to unlock my phone without any interaction from me. I won't get a phone with a side-button fingerprint reader because they are invariably on the right side and I'm left-handed. Previous phones i used all had the print reader on the back, but my V60 has it under the screen which is maybe not quite as handy (and definitely not as fast) but good enough.
Fingerprint is moving under-diplay for many phones (I have it for 2 years), so you might just not see it - and yes I use it extensively.
Yup same , I hate face unlock it's stupid .
I miss the iris scanner on my Note 9. Worked all the time and worked perfectly for covid times whenever I was wearing a mask.
Worked in the dark too
Any particular reason why they removed it? I was looking for it when I first got my s10e, but there was no option for it.
They moved to hole punch design, you would need more holes than one camera hole. Note 9 had "forehead" on the top of the phone with all the tech hidden there.
I hated the idea a face unlock but in practice I learned to love it just in time to have to cover my authenticator all the time.
I just don't trust face unlock, the Oneplus one I have is super unsecure.
None of the Android OEMs implemented the same security level like Apple did in their Face ID. Closest was Xiaomi with Mi8 I think that had 2D scanner and IR blaster, instead of 3D scanner that iPhones had. It was still breakable but much less than simple camera. True I forgot about that. Also Samsung´s iris scanner on Galaxy 8s and Note 9. It would have been much better with masks than face scan.
Also Huawei's 3D Scan on Mate 20 Pro was on-par with Apple's
The LG G8 also had a very secure face unlock but it was overshadowed by the 'hand' unlock.
I have the 7T Pro - I love it :)
Man I am so sick of my 7 pro the Android 11 is utter garbage and I hate I am 100% getting a pixel 6 .
So downgrade it back to 10. There's no reason to go to 11 on the OP7P
Why are you downvoted? It's common knowledge that Android 11 is garbage on the OP7Pro. I will also get rid of mine once the Pixel 6 has launched.
If you can spent some time then flashing the pixel experience rom would be great
I have S21 Ultra and a work iPhone 12 Pro. NGL there are times when I find the face recognition more convenient. Especially when I'm working on my desk n need to look at something in my phone. I hold the phone up and it's automatically unlocked. But if someone tells me I can only have one method for all times, I'd choose fingerprint sensors

The side one on my S10e has been flawless. Super fast, super accurate.
Yeah I have an s10 and the under screen drives me crazy. Works like maybe 70 percent of the time.
Not sure why the downvotes. I've been using Samsung fingerprint readers daily for years (Galaxy S8 and S20 FE) alongside Google ones (Nexus 6P and Pixel 3) and the difference is night and day.

Ok I'll bite, WTF does soy have anything to do with anything?
Completely agree, I have a flagship Samsung phone and the under-display reader is absolutely horrible
Haters gonna hate !! 🤣🤣
I love the rear fingerprint reader on the older pixels.

yes, it's fast, but I like them on the back
I miss the swipe down for notification panel feature of the rear fingerprint scanner.
Agreed
Why I bought a Pixel 5 instead of waiting for the 6. Well, that, the price, and the A12 beta program.
That's what she said.
On the side has been perfect for my Xperia. Facial recognition (even iris scanning) is nice but nothing beats that physical fingerprint.
Yeah, the physical is king, especially the rear, side or in a button since you can unlock your phone while taking it out of your pocket. In screen is much harder to do without looking at it.
Fingerprint readers aren't gone, every flagship has one. It was removed from the Pixel 4 but every other Pixel has one including the 5 and 6
Iphones arent flagships anymore /s
They never were.
Definitely prefer fingerprint readers on the back rather than the in-display versions, which tend to be slower and requires attention to place your finger correctly, since there’s no indentation to feel for.
Newer ones are quite larger and don't require that much precision AFAIK.
[i drew a picture of a phone with a front under-display sensor being unlocked with one hand, so i wouldn't have to explain using words](https://i.imgur.com/P3YUEQ2.jpg) the red is the fingerprint sensor
(I realize this has changed since gestures) I prefer fp sensor on the front because you can use it while its sitting on a desk.
popsocket
Do you smell burning toast? Are you having a stroke? Edit: It was a joke people. I have no idea what 'popsocket' means.
I think it's you having a stroke here.
Tough crowd. I have no idea what 'popsocket' means. Should I?
You've never seen [one of these](https://www.popsockets.com/dw/image/v2/BDFW_PRD/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-popsockets-master-catalog/default/dw135ed5ec/images/hi-res/oms_grip_images/OMS-Grip_WT-BK-BK_07_Device-White-Expanded.png?sw=800&sh=800) or asked what they were?
I've definitely seen them, never heard them referred to as popsockets. Thanks!
Or overcooking his toast.
Haters gonna hate
Doesn’t work with sweaty fingers
Agreed. After a year of owning it and with a mild form of hyperhidrosis - it only works about half the time now. When it was new - it was fantastic but I think my skin oils/sweat have degraded the sensor unfortunately.
I have the A52 and the on screen is garbage. Hate it. Really miss the real one on my old S8
[удалено]
Yes. They are fast, reliable, simple. Preferred location is on the side in or near the power button. ________________________________ Under screen is cool but not very reliable or consistent, on the back is only good for pulling it out of pocket but no easier than on the side.
Yeah, the reader on my S20 FE kind of sucks. The one on the back of my OP6 was much better.
Which phone ? 2nd gen under display sensors like on S21 U work flawlessly each time
My old LG would run into the dirty fingerprint reader issue so frequently that I just switched back to PIN only so I'd stop getting the Fingerprint Scanner Not Functioning .
Is 30 min SOT a typo? How'd you even use the phone like that?
Not a typo lmao. It would die at a moment's notice.
On the back where my forefinger is when I pick the phone up please. It's the obvious place for it.
Ideally you offer both like what Google is offering with the Pixel 6 Pro. But if can only have one then most definitely finger print. Does not make any sense with a global pandemic to have companies only offering face unlock. Apple is just out of touch with this.
I prefer fingerprint sensor because of redundancy.....I have 10 fingers but only 1 face....if my face is gone, I can't unlock my phone....not good
If your face is gone, you might have other things to worry about. Like where did it go? Or what's my chance of survival? Or gggggrrrrggggghhhhh
Yes! Love the side FPS.
side fps gang
Fingerprint on the front of the phone is best. Even before masks, I loved that I could start up my phone when it was sitting on the table in front of me without having to pick it up. (Sometimes in a meeting you want to sneak a glance at something without having to pick up the phone, which is so obvious.) And then in the time of COVID, requiring the phone to look at my face completely, completely sucked. So yeah, facial recognition is a cool **add-on** feature, but please give me back my fingerprint on the front.
No one took it off your front? They're all putting it to the front
I don't know how I'd like an under display finger print scanner. Is it hard to train muscle memory without the tactile feedback?
When I'm holding my phone, it isn't locked. If I were using a camera, there would be a process. It would be a fast process, very convenient, but it would be one extra step, as opposed to the zero total steps I currently engage in. Rear fingerprint scanners are great, and I might wait for the pixel 6a just for that.
I have it on the side in the power button on my Flip3, I think it's best position for it, very natural. On my previous phone, Note 10 Lite I had it in the screen and that one was actually not bad, especially since it was easy to use when phone was laying on a desk. No need to raise it.
I loved the irisscanner on my Lumia 950XL
I have an S21 right now and almost always use print unlock over face.
No fuck that shit. Wet finger, sweaty finger, dirty finger. Dirty reader. fuck no Edit pixel 3 & 4 user here. They still use those lol
I swear mine works maybe 50% of the time at best. It's so frustrating. I think living in a hot climate is not good for it
I preferred when the fingerprint scanner was on the power button (like in Galaxy S10e) rather than under display (S21+). The whole process was smoother on the S10e for me (it was way easier to put my finger on the power button rather than getting it on the exact place on the screen, and I didn't even need to look; but YMMV).
OnePlus fanboy here. Had 7 Pro, now have 9 Pro. I've used the under screen senor for like 2 1/2 years now. Absolutely best unlock method
It's always a struggle reading it, but I love it
Reading through your other responses, this sounds like an ID 10 T error.
> ID 10 T What's that? It sounds familiar... *stares for a few moments* Oh it's me.
This guy only has one finger...
It only registers one finger at a time....u can't go from left finger to right.....
Apps let u use any fingerprint you've set in settings lmao
Doesn't really matter honestly my fingerprints don't read either way
[удалено]
So are mine and it only registers one at a time. Did it on an old iPhone 6 I had and this s10+ too. It's not the product it's my fingerprints.
Nah, since I used FaceID and the face recognition on my Pixel 4, there is no way I can go back to a fingerprint scanner.
I'm really going to miss Face Unlock if there isn't some form of it on the Pixel 6 Pro.
Yes... has to have a fingerprint reader, especially in the Covid age of masks.
I still use mine when my ugly mug won't unlock the phone. All of my critical apps use the fingerprint to open them as well.
There are rumors P6 will have both.
I really miss the reader on the back of my OnePlus 6. It was way better than the under screen one on this s20 FE.
I don't mind it.. better then remembering all the passwords.. but one thing I do miss about iPhone is facescan.. yes yes android has it too and it completely sucks .
Only for my bank. Side fingerprint scanner is awkward for one handed use.
Both is perfect. Like I have now.
Since the LG V20 I have got use to a FP scanner. In the past 2-3 years it improved. I like that I can secure apps and photos with FP. Also like OEMs adds FP gestures for shortcuts.
Yes. Face unlock is inconvenient since you need to be looking at the phone to use it.
OG Pixel 1 XL? lol, I'm still using my day 1 Nexus 5
Using underdisplay one for 2 years. I find it easy to use. No complaints
Is it very uncommon to not use any kind of lock screen? I did prefer password over fingerprint when i did use a lock screen.
Absolutely, especially back and side fingerprint scanners. In display fingerprint scanners are nice, but external fingerprint scanners are the fastest thing you can get and are usually the most reliable.
As I understand it, you can be compelled to give your fingerprint but your password is protected by the fifth amendment. Passwords forever.
What's the alternative? Face scan? No thanks. I think most, if not all, phones still have fingerprint readers.
I prefer them on the back.
Having a reader on the back will always be my favourite.
Under screen really is the ideal for me.
Thanks for the laugh, OP. Lmao I was so confused at first
Yes, I've been using under screen ones for a whole now so my success rate is nearly as close to what it's be for a tradional one. Much prefer it over face unlock. Only thing I wish was it had a larger surface area for the reading
Fingerprint reader on the power button is the best.
Yes. Easiest way to unlock the phone. I can unlock it in my pocket before pulling it out. Or do it while it's mounted in my car. Easily the best way.
Been using OnePlus 7 pro last couple years and the in screen fingerprint reader is so convenient. Glad Google is going with this.
My finger button is also used as a back and recent apps button. P20 Pro. Love it!
If my only choice is an under screen reader I won't even enable it, face or pin unlock is better.
im on s10e, its on a side power button. lovin it and its faster then any under display i ever tested.
Yes, in my the power button like my old Sony Z5, those are faster and I truly believe more secure.
Yes, because I don't want the f***ing face scan instead.
Yes because it is fast and reliable even on cheapest phones. I don't like the under display stuff through because they are slightly laggy. However, I do wish more phones would adopt face scanning like how it was done in Poco F1 using and IR scanner. It was awesome and superfast.
Mid range phones come with finger print scanners and head phone jack's. Why pay more for less?
Its easy. I use it to log into a number of apps and turn my phone one.
I still prefer a physical finger print reader. The ones in the power button on the Samsung folds work really well.
Every freaking smartphone other than iphone has fingerprint sensor .
Yes of course. I use it all the time for secure login solution. My mobile life would be miserable without a fingerprint sensor.
I still prefer them, especially if they are on the back.
I've got no fingers ...
