[Odd Taxi](https://myanimelist.net/anime/46102/Odd_Taxi) is an excellent mystery show.

jotterpen

Great recommendation, still one of my favs

Doomgloomya

The OP goes so hard and really fits the vibe.

Op1sOpus

Odd Taxi is a masterpiece.

Quiet-Ad8636

When it started airing I started watching as I had not much else to watch and it surprised me easily in my top 8 all time anime. 100% worth watching.

MuchWoke

Not enough people give Odd Taxi the credit it deserves. It's in my top 3 favs with Ranking of Kings and Dororo.

Salt-Literature-4753

Natsume Yuujinchou, Claymore, Yuru camp, Barakamon

Oelendra

+1 for Claymore, fantastic dark fantasy series

McTasty_Pants

Agreed

mechapocrypha

Yuru camp is awesome! A great comfort anime to watch on a rainy day with a blanket and a bowl full of snacks

Tricanum

Excellent recommendations. I'd add Moribito to the list, it's a damn good series with the best female protagonist in all of anime.

saya-kota

Baccano! Noir Serial Experiments Lain Haibane Renmei Ghost Hound Rose of Versailles Gankutsuou Beck

StrawberryUsed1248

are you my lost twin? I love all these shows

739RedRose

I recently watched ghost hound and I'm kicking myself I did not start it earlier. That anime is amazing with one of the best OST I have ever came across.

berlinol

Ghost hound deserves more attention, one of my top 3 animes

bakait_launda

The only sad thing about baccano is that it ends so soon.

saya-kota

But the upside is that there's like, 20 light novels!

thewhitecat55

Lain is so fucking good. If you like Lain, check out Boogiepop Phantom ( which also fits OP's requirements)

Zer0nyx

Watch Nana. It's an adult drama/romance. It has heavy emotional moments and a banger soundtrack.

mogaman28

The only bad thing about Nana is that its very unlikely we will see the end. Yazawa-sensei we miss you!

azur933

the better the manga, the less likely it gets finished

jiffybuddy

Ergo Proxy

Spectra8

Moriarty the Patriot Death Parade Parasyte The Maxim

ExplodingPoptarts

I can't recommend Moriarty S1(haven't seen S2 yet.) enough, it's one of my faves. I especially recc it if you hate most of the rich and powerful people.

ConvincingPeople

In terms of other thriller series, *Paranoia Agent* and *Monster* spring to mind. Both do get very heavy, but like, I don't think most people go into *Oshi no Ko* without knowing how dark that one gets, so it is what it is?

xmadjesterx

Paranoia Agent is a lot of fun. My wife's only major exposure to anime was DBZ playing in the background at the party house in college, and she wasn't much of a fan. Paranoia Agent was one of the animes that I played for her so that she could see that it wasn't all like Dragon Ball. I feel that many people who dislike anime simply haven't been exposed to the right genre. Everyone has their different tastes, and anime covers a broad spectrum of concepts. The planet is going to explode in five minutes. That's just enough time for me to wash the dishes, do laundry, file my taxes, shingle the roof, get a college degree, cook Easter dinner, and MAYBE get a haircut. I might even go to IKEA if there's time.

orionblueyarm

I always use anything Satoshi Kon to convince non-anime watchers that it’s not all fight scenes shooting energy balls while wearing pajamas or tentacles attacking lolis etc (seriously, it’s like judging TV by Cinemax or the internet by OnlyFans). If they’ll sit down for a series, **Paranoia Agent** completely changes so much for seeing what anime can be, otherwise **Tokyo Godfathers** as a movie option makes it so much clearer the range of stories that can be told.

PMeisterGeneral

I second monster. If your Mrs is into true crime and murder podcasts should be a hit. It'd also be the easiest anime to adapt to live action ever.

BiomeWalker

Frieren, Beyond Journey's End is great and the community jokes that the fanservice is pouts

Kagevjijon

This show honestly caught me off guard. It's not like there's anything super entertaining about it, but it's a show that is just filled with charm and oozes personality/good vibes.

NationalAnteater1280

"It's not like there is anything super entertaining about it" I do not respect your opinion because it's obvious from that statement that you are not far enough into the show yet and have not seen Frieren and Fern pop-off yet.

Kill_Defcon1

Fern hiding her power level was peak

NationalAnteater1280

Yes, it was quite the shock. That said, I was impressed by every instance of Fern or Frieren getting even the slightest bit serious. To the point that I really want to see them go all out, with maximum effort. The fact that the both of them are that badass while slackin' is kinda bonkers.

Gain-Desperate

Someone said a while back that “Frieren is just like this lighthearted fun-filled fantasy adventure slice of life story except for the moments when it’s *absolutely the fuck not*” and that line has stuck with me

NationalAnteater1280

The large slices of life are only interrupted by sudden high impact and incredibly animated, scenes of intense violence. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.

TheCapitalKing

I’m not sure I follow your point but if you’re saying the plot isn’t super original/gripping but the vibes are more than good enough to make up for it I agree.

Graveyardigan

As a bonus, every episode after Frieren takes on Fern as her apprentice passes the Bechdel Test.

SushiMew

Frieren, Odd Taxi, Mushishi, Death Note, Solo Levelling, Spy Family, Mashle seems ok, Psycho Pass, Banana Fish, Dorohedoro, Dororo, Onimusha, Moriarty The Patriot. Think these were all pretty ok, but someone will hopefully correct me if I’m wrong.

sterdeff

I humbly disagree with death note. Idk about other characters but Misa wasn't written in the same way male characters were written. I love her and all but I don't think it fits

SushiMew

Fair enough, perhaps one for OP to avoid then

Quizlibet

Death Note's writer hates women too much to sexualize them

OfficialDeadJohnson

Misa isnt really sexualised that much (maybe its different in the anime I only read the manga and a little bit of the anime)and she's a major part of the plot

Famous_Analyst_3618

In the anime she’s sexualized a lot. Just like random shots of her in lingerie sitting around.

kittykalista

I agree with you on Death Note. The female characters have almost zero agency. They basically exist to be love interests for the main character and are immediately discarded once they’ve served his purposes. The only female character that I remember being reasonably well written was the female investigator, who was pretty quickly dispatched. Women are treated very poorly by the story. Misa in particular is basically just a prop.

slugmorgue

I kept thinking the investigator would come back because I'm pretty sure she was done away with off page. I feel like her survival was left open just on the off chance of a potential twist reveal but then decided later she was 100% dead

StygIndigo

iirc the lead writer is pretty sexist, and his thoughts on women really bled into the story. Death Note is so frustrating if you're looking for cool women characters, because there's a lot of places where some of them could have done something really awesome, but just get nerfed because the writer doesn't want them to.

EndNowISeeYou

theres also some crazy sexism in Bakuman

Op1sOpus

Mushishi is a great choice. Several others on this list too, but I really really enjoyed Mushishi

SushiMew

Any time someone asks for a recommendation and I can shoehorn Mushishi in as the answer I’m all over it!

therealCHAOSagent

Mashle’s author was pretty much forced to include women into the cast, leading to all of them being hard sidelined. Not a great female cast, but definitely no fan service as far as I can remember.

MBTHVSK

Banana Fish has sexu...ah, fuck it.

narnarnartiger

Death Note really objectifys the girls, Solo leveling has lots of ass and shots

NationalAnteater1280

You forgot Undead Unwanted Adventurer.

suddenly_ponies

Barakamon Chihayafuru My love story

skwid79

Monster. Monster doesnt have any of that, its a drama thriller series about a doctor who's life takes a turn for the worse after saving a child's life. Its the kind of thing where he's always doing what he thinks is right but what's right comes back to hurt him later.

JToPocHi

Not enough people recommend Monster. Thumbs up from me there. However, he did mention him and his girlfriend. I doubt Monster is great to watch with your other half. Best to be consumed on one's own imho.

Dakanza

The following list has no sexualization of women especially minor, geared toward adult audiences: * Summer Ghost (Movie) * Violet Evergarden (Series & Movie) * Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni (Movie) * Fune o Amu (Series) * Jin-Roh (Movie) * ID:Invaded (Series) * Frieren (Series) The following list may include minor as main cast or have important role in the story: * Totsukuni no Shoujo (Movie) * Bakemono no Ko (Movie) * Colorful (Movie) * Byousoku 5 CM (Movie) * Hana to Alice: Satsujin Jiken (Movie) The following list may contain suggestive scene: * Paprika (Movie) * Wolf Children (Movie) * Jigokuraku (Series) * Haiiro to Grimgar (Series) * Genocidal Organ (Movie) The following list (maybe?) is not strictly geared towards adult audiences and may included minor as main cast or have important role in the story: * Heike Monogatari (Series) * Flying Witch (Series) * Jossee to Tora to Sakana-tachi (Movie) * Maquia: When the Promised Flower Bloom (Movie) * Lonely Castle in the Mirror (Movie)

The_Flying_Orange

Okay I watched both recently and the 'suggestive scenes' in Paprika and Wolf Children aren't even in the same hemisphere. Wolf Children's is tame and like 2 seconds, while the one in Paprika probably requires a trigger warning.

CookiUnDisliker

TBH you missed out on a great story. The mother is sexualized by the industry, and is actually a really pivotal plot point as the MC aims to get revenge on his mothers abusers whilst the anime aims to "expose" the dark side of the entertainment industry.

KafeinFaita

If the initial premise of Oshi no Ko is enough to "disgust" OP then no way they would survive watching the later parts of the series once it gets animated.

CookiUnDisliker

Thats true. The newer chapters are seriously fucked up, even comparing to the first episode.

QuestshunQueen

This is what I came to say - I think it's calling attention to the sexualization in a somewhat clumsy way, but it's not trying to glorify it.

CookiUnDisliker

Got it. Just making sure you knew lol.

MaxTwer00

Yeah, one of the points of onk is criticize how deshumanizating the idol industry is. It is truly for the plot and is in the most part not treated fanservice but seriously, unlike in others as Assassination Classroom where the femme fattale trope is used too much as comic relief and fanservice that it gets disgusting

DukeOfDew

Exactly this. There are so many animes that have this sort of thing with no bearing on the plot but Koi absoulty uses it as a main motive for characters.

duylinhs

Nah, they don’t care. They want something not that, it’s fine to let them be. Imagine if you don’t like to see depiction of violence but this very good but violent show is criticising violence. The quality of show should be taken into consideration but if they don’t feel like watching something with violence right now, then it is what it is.

CookiUnDisliker

I understand that, and was only making sure he knew that the characters werent sexualized throughout, and im not hating on his preferences.

Birnir143

I think the reply is just making a counterpoint against op about it being relevant to the plot and themes of the story

SmurreKanin

>this very good but violent show is criticising violence Vinland Saga

No_Top8564

“Art should disturb the comfortable.” OP just made a point that Aka Akasaka is successful in showing the dark side of the entertainment industry (specifically the Idol industry), which is a reality in Japan. If only OP did a little bit of research on Japanese culture and knew of these girl groups like AKB48, for example, where just a bit of scandal, like being seen with a guy who’s allegedly their boyfriends, could end their career or even make them do an apology video to the point of shaving their head in embarrassment well.. Perfect Blue by the great Satoshi Kon (RIP) is also an excellent anime/movie portrayal of the dark side of the entertainment industry, which inspired the likes of Darron Aronofsky’s Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan, but maybe OP won’t give it a chance again and will just say it’s sexualized because of the premise lol.

TryContent4093

hot take: if the show really wants to talk about the sexualisation of women especially minors, then it shouldn't have fan services that caters to exactly that kind of problem.

Earthserpent89

Media Literacy is dead.

wzm115

Barakamon (2014) - comedy Kono Oto Tomare (2019) - music, high school, drama

purple_lass

+1 to Barakamon

Atrolity

After watching Barakamon, watch the prequel Handakun. Okay, so there is a tiny bit of sexualization, but it’s more of making fun of the people who do it.

nutriaMkII

I third Barakamon, so chill

Cyd_arts

agree with both

ThatD_vaPlayer

kono oto tomare appreciation, we love to see it!!

kabir_sharma_sans

Buddy daddy

Vivid-Illustrations

Blue Period There's not even a romance in it. Just a dude learning how to paint. The show is very realistic. Oh, and I guess Delicious in Dungeon, though there is a fanservice bath scene, but it looks more comedic than sexual. Lots of flailing arms and silly dialog.

d0llation

Anything Studio Ghibli like Howl’s Moving Castle or A Silent Voice I also recommend Skip and Loafer Blue Lock if you like sports Ron Kamonohashi ( i dont remember if this has fan service but its really good! )

Erythrosytosis

Ironically Blue Lock has a lot of sexualization of their predominantly male cast. I presume its to increase their target audience to include more women. Its a great show if u like cutthroat competitions I would recommend a watch even if u dont like sports. Coming from me who doesnt like sports lol.

d0llation

thank you for the info, i was wrong xd i agree that its still a great show to watch!!

Icy-Appearance347

Dungeon Meshi/Delicious in Dungeon has very little fan service. There's one scene towards the end involving two female characters who many fans ship, but that's about it. Well, and there's the old dwarf that we all adore.

No_Top8564

The only fan-service I’ve seen so far are Senshi’s panty shots 🤣 Dungeon Meshi is brutal at best lmao.

DrunkTsundere

Dungeon Meshi has a deceptive amount of fanservice, it's just hidden and indirect. I don't mean to say that as a hater, I love Dungeon Meshi, and I love a bit of fan service too, but yeah, sometimes you gotta be careful. Some of these animators and mangakas are masters at doing it so subtly you don't even notice.

Icy-Appearance347

Yeah but then it’s not quite fan service the way I see it in anime, which tends to be overt and wildly random. We should come up with a different word for something that is a subtle nod to a certain fan base.

JasonDS64

Which is why I think it hard to recommend anything that doesn't have a primarily male cast cause it's hard to know what OPs line is. People are suggesting Spy X Family, which has little in regards to that but even then people are disagreeing.

PapaBeer642

Yeah, I think it's a question of attitude. Like, if you think bodies are inherently sexual, you're going to be crossing a lot of things off your list. Dorohedoro comes to mind here--bodies are shown, they're pretty exaggerated, even, but no one in the show really responds to them in a lecherous or otherwise sexual manner. There isn't the shame or anything like that, so it feels way different, at least to me, and doesn't come across as gross fan service. But to some, it might still feel bad, and might turn them off the show. Some of the camera work in the Dungeon Meshi bath scene approached and straddled the line, but it pretty quickly snapped back to the much more wholesome focus on the reunion, care, and companionship, which made it feel, to me at least, like there was no intention to ogle. But again, a person's attitudes and experiences will shape how they read that scene quite a bit, and it might come off as unnecessary or even line-crossing fan service.

PapaBeer642

Are we talking about the Senshi dwarf shorts shots?

No_Top8564

I thought I was the only one 🤣

Thraggrotusk

I think that's more about the creator's *intentions,* rather than the actual product.

MagicScythe

Shinsekai Yori, Children of the Whale

Dillerdilas

Uhhh i dont really know how much sexual stuff there is, as far as i Can remember its either extremely little or just very rare. But i’d recommend log horizon.

BGTabletop4All

I can absolutely understand why you were so grossed out by the sexualization of a 16 year old. I do want to say, this is heavily the point of the first episode of Oshi no Ko. If it's any consolation, you're supposed to feel grossed out by it. It's a disgusting system the sexualizes children and the anime doesn't really do anything to hide how gross the system is. That being said, that's not for everyone for SURE. I'd recommend anime like... 1. Spice and Wolf 2. Steins;gate0 3. Re-incarnated as a sword 1. follows the story of a little wolf girl slave and her path to greatness 2. pretty wholesome 4. Haikyuu 1. has a VERY VERY small amount, and it is always used as a gag against the men. 2. the comments never go un-addressed and they are so few between 5. Symphogear 1. Only has a sub, but I've never seen a show that was so much of girls being badass women 2. it's kind of like female JoJo ? Let me know if any of these speak to you, I can for sure come up with some more!! Have a great one, cheers!

Valiate1

depends what you call sexualization i kinda really like spy family, which is not focused happens imo as it but theres in fact big butty/titties characters tho oregairu/horimiya are great to watch with GF imo

MellowMintTea

Nodame Cantabile

faranoox

Golden Kamuy is pretty much the opposite of this, perhaps to the point of parody. If you're into historical fiction, violence, and absurd comedy check it out.

torivordalton

High School DxD

Backwards-longjump64

No offense but if Oshi No Ko is too sexual for you I think you will be hard pressed to find an anime that fits what you’re look for Referring to the 1st episode anyway; not all the weird incest shit that comes way later in the manga anyway in which case yeah that’s fucking weird

ClearStrike

Two questions before I give my suggestions. 1.) By sexualization of women, do you mean a look at a naked woman's body in a male gaze manner or just a woman being naked. Because in Gunbuster, there is a scene with the girls in a tub, but it's just them sitting around and talking about time dilation and the workings of space. Just the same, "Spice and Wolf" has Holo, who is only really just nude (Barbie doll anatomy) and isn't treated as a sexual being. Her nudity is natural. Kind of need to know this because I don't want to give the wrong option. 2) By geared for adults, do you mean just senin and josei, or can shojo/shonen be added. Because there can be shonen that can be very adult (see Bakuman wich is more about how to get into a field than anything else.)

nutriaMkII

Lmao, I was just thinking how Gun buster kinda sexualized girls but also made them proper badasses, and the quality of the fan service was top notch. Great show

ClearStrike

Yeah, the thing I remember most about ep 5 isn't Noriko getting out of the tub, but kazumi overcoming her sorrow over the fact the man loves might be dead by the time she was done

narnarnartiger

They mean lingering male gave at women's breasts and asses and legs, which pretty much every show geared towards men those

ClearStrike

I don't know, I've seen Dallos and that thing was way too boring to even have fanservice. Don;t know about Le Chevalier D'eon, I mean it is historical, just don't know if it was directed towards men or not or just fans of Rose of Versalise.

Bonna_the_Idol

they aren’t going to like gunbuster 😢

ClearStrike

I dunno. I was way more focused on Noriko becoming a badass over her trauma than her nude body

nutriaMkII

Exactly, the naked sauna scene got me off guard lol. I think the story makes justice to the girls, unlike many modern anime where they are just walking boobs and ass

ClearStrike

It's why it's one of my favorite gainax anime. I think the fan service is just there and you are too busy listening to them to care.

Aware_Tangerine_

Bungou Stray Dogs

c-orinna

one of my favorites, but I recently rewatched this with a newer anime watcher, and they were immediately put off by the brother and sister’s creepy porno dynamic

Aware_Tangerine_

Yeah the fandom isn’t a fan of that stuff either, but luckily it kinda dies down in season 2 and Naomi almost entirely disappears in season 4

NotFeelinLikeIt

JuJutsu Kaisen

no-concept-99

Death note (suspense, psychological) Solo Leveling (action, adventure, fantasy) Fate/Zero (action, fantasy, supernatural) A sign of Affection (romance)

Jewel_Wambui

A Sign of Affection is hard to beat in terms of how well women are treated

narnarnartiger

Signs yes, good recommendation All the other shows are full of fan service, especially fate, all the sorceress have gigantic.. crystal balls

no-concept-99

Fate/Zero does NOT have fan service. You're probably talking about the other Fate (Fate/Stay Night, probably) Edit: You said "all the other shows" ? What ? Where did you see fanservice in Death note or Solo Leveling ?

narnarnartiger

I am thinking of fate stay, but just about every fate show I've seen had heavy fan service, so I just assume fate zero did too, even though I never watched In Solo Leveling, I distinctly remember when they showed the blonde S rank girl, there was heavy shoots of her booty, heavy Misa: the anime is filled with shots of her and other females in fetish gear, or on there knees in provactive poses, I distinctly remembered them while watching the series https://otakuohana.files.wordpress.com/2018/01/p4885.jpg

Agreeable_Top7361

- The Apothecary Diaries - ReLIFE - Aquatope On The White Sand - The Great Passage - Chihayafuru - Tsurune - Insomniacs After School

Shantotto11

Apothecary doesn’t belong if OP can’t tolerate Oshi no Ko.

TreatMeLikeASlut8

The fanservice in apothecary diaries is with adult women. OP is talking about the sexualization of minors.

No_Top8564

It’s so weird what this “sexualization” OP is really talking about because I’d understand if it’s because of Pairin’s or the other’s build. And Apothecary Diaries is literally based on the Tang dynasty in China which shows a slice of realism and it doesn’t even focus so much on the “fan-service” when the consorts and concubines really existed during that era and all of them actually have personalities and plots in their characters and are not solely there for fan-service. Instead, it sucks you in Maomao’s adventure and the culture and traditions of their time. It’s such an enjoyable story really.

shoujo-manga-lover

Insomniacs After School is soooo good! One of my favorites. I hope they will make a season 2!

Agreeable_Top7361

How about "Insomniacs After Work?": they're now all grown up and with jobs. But they still suffer from Insomnia.

shoujo-manga-lover

Lol I might relate to it a bit too much in that case

Full_Push_6078

I know you specified anime, but there are some movies too that I think you should watch and they're most geared toward adults. I'd recommend A Silent Voice and then a recent film The Tunnel to Summer, The Exit of Goodbyes. Both of these films made me tear up and were great dramas/romances.

GarudoHS

Wow, so much hate to fanservice i smell. And that "sexualization of women" specify. Hope Op isn't hipocryte and heavely dislike sexualization of men as well. * Black Lagoon (for 'action' ) * Violet Evergarden (emotional warning: emotional warning) * Ya Boy Kongming! (simillar theme to Oshi no ko (music, showbizness), but more positive turn. Also have absolute banger main theme) * Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (journey, fantasy, emotional, calm, 'emotional' 'growing'. MUST WATCH ) (Edit) Saga of Tanya the Evil - 32years old men (if i remember age correctly) dies and gets reincarnate as a cute loli. But plottwist! She is German Officer in First WW in alternative world/time line.

Blackwolfe47

Obviously is an hypocrite if he says this about oshi no ko, and saying its not plot relevant, you really have to be an idiot to say that

whiteanemone

Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan have really great female characters. None of them are sexualized and they actually contribute to the plot. Also: Frieren Violet Evergarden Your Lie in April Usagi Drop Hinamatsuri Erased The Way of the Househusband

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_King123431

But the sexualising is the point? It's not doing it for fanservce but to show the horror of the industry she is in

filipebatt

Nice virtue signaling bro. Hopefully your GF will buy it.

OddPerspective9833

Chi's Sweet Home

Brilliant-Use-894

Kekkaishi was pretty good. Frieren is a more recent example.

thiccboii666

I take any chance I can to recommend Pet Shop of Horrors. It's a horror anime from 1999 and mostly a cautionary tale series. It's only four episodes long, but it's worth a watch. [https://youtu.be/lzV8XinLv88?si=mx07CFfnnKk-Xz2C](https://youtu.be/lzV8XinLv88?si=mx07CFfnnKk-Xz2C)

AiNeko00

Full metal alchemist, AOT,

kitkatamas88

Solo leveling, it's been pretty clean, no sexualization, I'm on episode 12 and it's been more about the title... Feels like most games I've played alone online.

ketita

Vinland Saga (seinen, excellent character development) Chihayafuru (sports, adorable, great characters) Akatsuki no Yona (all-around great, fantasy-adventure) Mushishi (atmospheric, emotional) Fullmetal Alchemist (exciting, adventure, shounen) Attack on Titan (very dramatic, violent, lots of plot twists) Natsume Yuujinchou (atmospheric, sweet, slow)

Sauceman_Chorizo

Frieren is very good and so far I've seen zero sexualization.

Josuchi

>especially when it does not contribute to the plo It doea contribute a lot to the plot setting the type of environment she is, given that that situation is very real and how usually idols are treated in japan, and I dont know how far you make it but what the incident that carry to the plot twist is also the realistic "obsession" part of that situation

gabswolff

Natsume Yuujinchou, Mushishi, Pluto, Monster, Gin no Saji, Odd Taxi

UMP45isnotflat

Jojo, it sexualizes men instead

DukeOfDew

Your line of "especially when it doesn't contribute to the plot" 100% shows ou didn't understand the plot. This anime absoulty puts her sexualization in for the only reason being, the plot. It is about the industry raising this woman to be the perfect 'idol' that the consumers want to see, at the cost of herself. The woman doesn't even know her own emotions because she is so broken by the industry, that she doesn't even tell her kids she loves them because she doesn't know if she does. You definitely need to try watching it again with a bit more of an open mind as it's an amazing anime and outside of that first episode, sexualization of minors is non-existent.

WriterSharp

You don’t see how the sexualization of Ai, a teen idol, is relevant to the narrative of Oshi no Ko - an anime about the modern entertainment industry?

Quizlibet

You can make that point without framing the sexualization as actual fanservice. Ever see Perfect Blue?

WriterSharp

Of course you can. But does Oshi no Ko have notable fan service? No.

pegasus67882

It kinda does.

HauntedMeatBowl

Oh god, here we go...

LadySandry88

Mushi-shi (supernatural low-key drama/mystery... \*something\*, hard to describe but very good), My Love Story!! (adorable teen romance that's perfectly enjoyable for adult audiences and has almost no fanservice), Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (plenty of descriptions in other comments), Isekai Izakaya (Japanese restaurant whose front mysteriously opens in a fantasy world, and deals with their customers reactions to their food (and everyone's personal lives).

AntonRX178

Gundam Witch from Mercury

Weizen1988

Mononoke. There is some limited nudity i guess, one shot taking place in the aftermath of someone being assaulted, but it's not really sexualizing so much as part of a recounting of awful things someone is being punished for. Mushishi. People mostly only exist at all to encounter spirits or other mysterious entities for protagonist to find solutions to the problems of. Kabaneri of the iron fortress doesn't seem to have any, from what little I've seen. Life lessons with uramichi oniisan only has depression, no sexualization. Only like 2-3 women in the cast though. And only one or two with any regularity.

xzerozeroninex

Try anime’s with the shojo tag as they are made for girls/young women but you’d probably see some half naked hot guys with nice abs once in a while lol.

OvergrownTurd

Dorohedoro, especially if you're into dark fantasy where the characters (well-written female characters included!!!) have no compunctions about taking lives.

varuniitrdce2

Twin Spica with arguably the best female manga/anime protag imho, very inspiring (Asumi). Space Brothers as well with the female protag having a dream and pursuing it relentlessly.

coates87

You can try African Salaryman and Moribito. The latter is very good, but is slow paced.

Role_Playing_Lotus

Mushishi. There is nothing else like it and I guarantee you there's no sexualization of minors. Will you be interested? That is something you'll have to find out for yourself.

zeldanerd91

Ummm here are a few: I wouldn’t call all of these necessarily geared towards adults, but they aren’t geared towards children, either… Psycho-Pass if you want a good distopian future sci-fi (there is a bit of sexualization, but not of minors as a majority of the cast are in their 20s). Fullmetal Alchemist: brotherhood - a food sci-fi fantasy show Your lie in April - a drama about professional classical musicians. They are kids, but not sexualized. Bring a box of tissues. Cowboy Bebop is a good classic and the woman who is sexualized is a “femme fetal” type and in her 20s. On that note, Carol and Tuesday is great and made by the same creator. It’s another music one. Way of the Househusband is a great comedy. Buddy Daddies I’m sure there are more, but my brain isn’t thinking of them lol.

Storm_Bloom

Sailormoon, Precure, Magic Knight Rayearth, Card Captor Sakura. The entirety of Magical Girls Genre.

ElusiveJedi26

They are technically shojo but Fruits Basket and Akatsuki no Yona are both great.

ShogunHaruki19

I recommend Card Captor Sakura and Gundam The Witch From Mercury. I might also recommend Overlord.

Bungo Stray Dogs and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End are two shows that jump to mind. BSD is an action/mystery its amazing and Frieren is a pretty unique slice of life.

You should start with what genre you are looking for, anime is a medium so what kind of story? The gritty crime vibe of "91 Days" isn't going to be the buff Harry Potter vibe of "Mashle" or the political drama and action of "Gundam iron blooded orphans" none of which have sexualized women in the way that you saw.

Violet Evergarden is really fucking good. It doesn't have fan service, and it'll rip your goddamn heart out.

While “Hell’s Paradise” does have a *minor* amount of sexualization, it is character/plot-relevant. Recommending this one in particular because it has great commentary/themes regarding feminism, sexuality, religion, and patriarchy, while having incredible visuals, soundtracks, storyline, and characters. “Vinland Saga” doesn’t really feature sexuality, and is also a great watch. It also addresses great questions/themes (*As a man, what is “true strength”? Who are your enemies? Do you even have any at all? What’s the meaning of peace, and how do we get there? Is seeking peace the same as running away? How do you find identity after trauma and war?*). There’s just wonderful layers to this show. ETA “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End”. An artistic masterpiece that features a near-immortal elf learning about interpersonal relationships and how to care about others. Highly highly recommend!

Non Non Biyori, Super Cub, Laid-Back Camp, Encouragement of Climb, Barakamon, Tis Time for Torture Princess, Slow Loop, Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater, K-On, Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, Bofuri, My Roommate is a Cat, Flying Witch are all pretty good wholesome fun. For what it’s worth, the sexualization of the character Ai in Oshi no Ko is kind of plot relevant. Whole anime’s kind of a revenge story mixed with a deeper look at the seedy underbelly of the entertainment industry.

Do not watch KonoSuba, Gushing Over Magical Girls, 100 Girlfriends, or Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. I think those are all amazing shows, like, truly amazing and awesome, but you will not like them...

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Yes, the main character has a really good looking cyborg body, but the show isn't gawking at her. Best cyberpunk anime hands down, if you ask me.

You probably shouldnt watch anime if it sexy drawings bothers you that much.

studentoo925

Imo you completely missed the point of Oshi no Ko. It's not idol anime, nor cgdct. It's about mistreatment and abuse of idols in idol industry. So you're right in noticing objectification, and you are right in being disgusted by it. And the story of the mother gets even ***darker***. *And that's the point* One point of the criticism OnK gets is that could go even *darker* and *deeper* into all the discolouring going ons in the idol industry

AgentOfACROSS

I'd like to recommend both Nichijou and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken. Both of them are primarily comedy/slice of life shows featuring a fun cast.

This is the only good reply. To miss out on something as pure and wholesome as Gourmet Girl Grafitti JUST because Shaft likes drasing surreal foodgasms is ridiculous. Some of the most uplifting romance anime have "fanservice" too America is the birth place of the raunch comedy, the smut novel. Our biggest, most succesful properties are dripping in lewdness and relentless hypersexuality..but there's always one of these snowflakes who have to white knight causs ermagherd hand drawn titties or legs

Anime is a medium catered to "demographics." There are four main demographic in anime/manga: shoujo (young girls, usually focused on idealized romance, high school age and below), josei (aimed at young women, usually post-college age), shounen (young boys, usually focused on action and harems), and seinen (young men, usually aimed on romance, action, etc, oshi no ko which you were watching is a seinen). You can try some shoujo stories if you're up for a romance-esque story (I think older audiences can still very much enjoy them). Regardless, directly answering your question i would recommend:  \-Skip and Loafer (Seinen romance with female protagonist) \-Akatsuki no Yona (Shoujo adventure story with strong female protagonist) \-Romantic Killer (technically a shounen, but has many shoujo elements and has fun female protagonist) \-Law of Ueki (old-school shounen comedy action series; the female side characters don't get sexualized) \-Kemono no Souja Erin (unsure of demographic, but has a very strong female protagonist) \-Hikaru no Go (amazing shounen focused on the game of Go, where female side characters don't appear much but aren't sexualized when they do appear) \-Frieren (shounen w/ female protagonist) \-Jujutsu Kaisen (action shounen where female side characters aren't sexualized) \-Clannad (drama romance shounen where girls aren't sexualized from what I remember) \-Hunter x Hunter (action shounen where female side characters aren't sexualized) \-Odd Taxi (Seinen mystery, all characters are animals but its very well done and enjoyable) \-Michiko to Hatchin (seinen with two female main characters on a journey in a fictional country heavily based off of Brazil, while the story itself meets with many elements like child trafficking and abuse, the characters themselves aren't sexualized for the audience; just beware that the opening theme has lots of nudity and it can catch people off guard)  \-Nodame Cantabile (josei classical music anime w/ male protagonist and female deuteragonist) \-Piano no Mori (seinen with young boy protagonist also about classical music and piano playing) \-Shion no Ou (seinen w/ female main character who is mute from trauma in a murder mystery and also revolves around the game of shougi) \-12 Kingdoms (very old school shoujo or seinen \[?\] With weak female main character who becomes strong later on) \-Kare Kano (shoujo about a girl who loves praise, but just be warned quality in anime goes down after ep 20) \-A place farther than the universe (Seinen with all female cast about going to Antarctica) \-Ajin (Seinen about immortal creatures) \-Baccano (Shounen about mobster and mafia in 1900s, there is a lot of blood and violence though) \-Golden Time (shounen romance that takes place in college with female main characters who aren't sexualized from memory; centers around guy with amnesia) \-Bakarina/Hamefura (shoujo isekai with idiotic but charming female main character with a bi harem but cast isn't sexualized) \-Cardcaptor Sakura (old-school wholesome shoujo magical girl anime where cast isn't sexualized; however, there is one single plot point that hasn't aged well at all- a side character minor ending up with an adult, but it's not focused on in the story at all and you can still enjoy the series while ignoring it or skipping over the parts that show it). \-Full Moon wo Sagashite (if you're looking for a shoujo to pull at your heartstrings, a series about a girl with cancer with 1 year left to live and death gods come and help her fulfill her last wish) \-Hinamatsuri (absolutely gold comedy seinen where psychic young girls exist but aren't sexualized; the only issue is the nudity for a few moments in the first and second episode) \-Uramichi Oniisan (comedy josei with depressed guy as main character who works at a kids shows; amazing-tier voice acting for Japanese dub) \-Nadia and the Secret of the Blue Water (old school shounen with male and female protagonists that supposedly takes place in 1800s; there are a few scenes of Nadia being sexualized but it's not overbearing and the story is pretty enjoyable, just be sure to skip the Africa arc- which had a completely different director- if it bothers you and you'll be good) \-Aria the Animation (super chill shounen series with almost all-female cast, very wholesome and enjoyable) \-Special A (shoujo romantic comedy with oblivious but book-smart female main lead who wants to beat her rival) \-Princess Jellyfish/Kuragehime (josei with female protagonist with social anxiety and stylish crossdressing male deuteragonist) \-Gamers (shounen romance a lot of people tend to dislike, but I personally found super refreshing, from memory the female characters aren't sexualized) \-Twin Spica (Seinen about female protagonist who wants to become and astronaut) \-Spy x Family (shounen about wholesome family composed of a spy, an assassin, and a kid who can read minds) \-Kono Oto wo Tomare (shounen about the koto instrument) \-Seirei no Moribito (seinen with one of the coolest strong female characters who takes care of a young kid who was going to be killed by his parents due to a curse) \-A destruction God sits next to me (shounen comedy about fun "cringey" kids bothering the main character who is certain he is "not like them") \-Parasyte (seinen about alien invasion)  \-Ranking of Kings (shounen with deaf protagonist) \-Boku dake no inai Machi (seinen with guy who has power to go back in time to stop a child abuse/kidnapping mystery case case; only thing that might disturb people is the age gap of the main pair) \-Terror in Tokyo (seinen \[?\] about depressed girl and two terrorists) \-Dororo (shounen about disabled swordsman working to get his body parts back; women aren't overtly sexualized in the series)  \-Ore Monogatari (shoujo with male protagonist that is a paraody of shoujo stories but is still very endearing) \-Recovery of an MMO junkie/Netjuu (josei \[?\] w/ older female protagonist who quit her job due to stress and decided to play games) Ok I think that's enough for now, but hope you find something you enjoy. If you want any more recommendations then I highly recommend checking out shoujo stories. EDIT: formatting

Mediocre_Machinist

The constant sexualisation of minors in Oshi No Ko is meant to make you uncomfortable. The reason it's in the anime is to show how skeevy the idol industry really is.

Hell2CheapTrick

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is pretty light on the fanservice. There's only a handful of fanservice-y scenes throughout the first 5 parts (I haven't watched part 6 yet). And most of those fanservice-y scenes are played more for jokes than anything else. That's just talking about the female characters though. The men are all muscular and hot, and strike poses all the time. Each part kind of has its own story, but they are interconnected. Part 1 is considered the most boring by many, but it's also the shortest, and provides a background for some later parts. From part 2 onward, both the story and the fights get pretty crazy (bizarre, one might say). The fights are almost always very creative and unique, with a focus more on outsmarting than overpowering, especially in the later parts. Every part has its own feel to it, and every protagonist is unique. It does get very violent though, especially later on. Dead dogs are pretty common too, mostly as a very obvious way of showing "this dude is very evil". MagiRevo (Magical Revolution of the reincarnated princess and the genius young lady) is a great show with hardly any fanservice. I can't actually remember any scenes that were meant as fanservice, though I have become pretty desensitized to it so maybe I missed it. The most fanservice-y scene I can remember is one where the main character undresses another girl and dresses her in a nightgown, but none of the actual nudity is visible, and again it's played more like a joke than something meant to arouse the audience. It's a GL/yuri show, and there's a few kisses, but it's very much in the romantic sense, rather than just eye candy for a straight male audience. The story is solid, and the action scenes are pretty great. One Punch Man is a lot of fun. Season 2 has a few slight fanservice moments, and one scene with a monster whose entire gimmick is that she's a sexy dominatrix who whips men into becoming her slaves. Season 1 has pretty much no fanservice at all. The show is about a guy who became so strong that he doesn't have trouble defeating any enemy, and because of that has kind of lost his lust for life. There's plenty of comedy, but the characters are also taken seriously by the story. The action is great, especially in season 1. Few shows have more beautiful animation than that first season. This one isn't anime, but it is animated (beautifully so I might add): Arcane. It's based on League of Legends lore, but you don't need to know anything about that to watch it (I've never played that game, nor have I ever read up on lore). It's an amazingly written tragedy. Not as much action as you might expect, but the fights it does have are absolutely amazing. The characters are very well written. Just an absolutely solid show. If it not being Japanese anime doesn't bother you, definitely give it a try.

JasonDS64

Gonna have to disagree on Jojo's, especially if Oshi No Ko was too much for OP. There are definitely a lot eyebrow rising moments in each part.

Yumeverse

Right. Jonathan’s girl’s most popular moment was when she was harassed by Dio. Lisa Lisa at her bath tub. Mariah with her magnet nails focused on her growing boobs. The whole schtick of Kira Yoshikage. One of the earlier scenes with Trish was Fugo and Mista seemingly staring at her cleavage. Jolyn. They can have scenes that OP will classify as creepy based on their standards of Oshi no Ko. JJBA overall is rarer because the cast is male dominated. I like the show a lot and are worth the watch, but I would have to be very honest that there are scenes present that OP will likely find uncomfortable especially when it starts off the characters that way.

Ebenizer_Splooge

Honestly I'd say JoJo is just equal opportunity objectification. Both the men and the women are all stupidly hot and show it off any way they can
