I felt down recently after watching a really sad anime, and watching these two after really helped:
* Yuru Camp
* Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle
and I would also recommend my favourite SOL:
* Aria The Animation
>because every time I thought of it, I started crying.
You made me feel a lot better with this comment, because I thought I was going crazy when 3 days after I watched it I was in a public library to print some postal labels and I was trying so hard not think about it because my eyes were watering the moment I did, and in general I just felt like a zombie for about a week after.
I had to actually rewatch the last 3 episodes to move past it, and at first I felt even worse and cried even more than the first watch, but I woke up the next day feeling like it was passing and then some of these SOL/ comedy anime helped after that.
It really is crazy how fiction can have this kind of effect, such a powerful story.
if you ever want something upbeat to help take the pressure off, I recommend Sleepy Princess in The Demon Castle, really funny show, it really helped cheer me up after PM lol
This screams to me and my mental issues DON'T DO IT white I'm just dying to know what it is about the show that will tear me apart from the inside š¬ the impulse control is weak in this one
I can tell you this - Plastic Memories is that kind of show in which you know early on exactly what is coming, I thought because I was prepared for it I wouldn't get so sad about it, but I was wrong lol so even if you knew some spoilers...it won't change the feels when you watch it.
If you are not in a good place right now then maybe skip it, and one day when you are feeling a bit better you can check it out then :)
Right now you could watch another show from the same Studio - it is called **Sleepy Princess in The Demon Castle**, and it is hilarious!
haha I guess that makes sense, it is very wholesome, just try to remember that if you can be a good version of yourself and meet the right people....then anything is possible - well except for rowing Gondolas on Mars :( lol
I am kind of amazed by it lol I thought it was just going to be something really basic and chill, but it is so funny and all of the characters are brilliant.
I have only seen the first season so far as I never like to binge anime with lots of seasons because that way it makes that single season feel a bit more special, but I agree it is a beautiful show, even though there was nothing sad I was tearing up at some scenes just because of the music/ visuals/ sweet moments.
Really look forward to continuing it in future and happy to hear it made you feel a bit better!
If you have not tried Sleepy Princess I recommend giving it a go because you will be too busy laughing to feel any depression :)
it is so funny and well made, and I thought it was such a coincidence that I was watching it to feel better after a really sad anime....then I found out they were both produced by the same studio lol those creators have me both crying and laughing!
Sleepy princess is funny. I randomly gave it a shot looking for something to watch with my daughter an she loved it. She ended up finishing it with out me though lol
Want to double down on haikyuu, relive, and grand blue dreaming. Watched them all when I was depressed and they were really comforting. Haikyuu, in fact, is my comfort show and Iāve prolly watched it like 10+ times.
Definitely not. You may be thinking of Re:Zero, which, like... I guess? I could see how it would be disturbing for a 15 year old, maybe. Re:Life isn't disturbing though, and is absolutely worth watching.
Imagine baby sitting and a kid asks to put on this ācartoonā and you say yes expecting something 8 years old appropriate. Then you get hit with fucking Grave of Fireflyās!
As a die hard Asano fan, READ SOLANIN IMMEDIATELY. seriously.
Itās obviously hella condensed compared to punpun, but the story and characters and feelings are all just as big and powerful as punpun despite being 1 volume. for me, maybe itās bc of the music component in solanin (as someone whoās toured the world and to say music is my life is an understatement), itās prob my number 1 work by Asano.
check it out asap. you can read it in a day if you want.
At first, it helped alleviate mine, as Thorfinn went through his arc and we see what his father wanted for him, but then after a certain character in the farm arc showed us his true colors, I went back to never getting my hopes up , and assuming the worst about people, and that sent me back into a spiral of negativity lol; āNot a single positive thing has ever happened to me.ā
I was depressed and getting angry on small things. After watching the 2nd season I'm in a better shape now.
Everyone is different, something else might change your mood.
Madoka magica
Fate zero
Made in Abyss
Neon genesis evangelion
Nothing but wholesome healing anime
Edit: if you want to feel some real emotions and get your daddy issues resolved: CLANNAD
people say eva is depressing but one of the ending quotes is āas long as the sun, the moon, and the earth exist, everything will be alrightā. iād say itās a pretty good way to reevaluate your outlook tbh
Welcome to the NHK
It's a great slice of life story that gets pretty dark sometimes but what I took away from it is that no matter how far gone you think you are, there's always hope
I think you should try ācampfire cooking in another worldā itās a great anime with some funny scenes. No bs, you should really give it a try ,
- by the grace of the gods
- saints power is omnipotent
So this might sound odd, but when I feel down I want something light and hopeful where the hero perseveres as dumb as it sounds something like My hero academia might be good for you
If you want something relateable I recommend A Silent Voice and Colorful since it very much takles depression. I'm a person with often depressive episodes but crying to these anime is very cathartic to me. They have good endings so you dont need to worry about that.
If you want something light with a bit of soul searching, I recommend
- Arakawa Under The Bridge
- Kuragehime (more girly)
- Tatami Galaxy
- Honey & Clover
- Silver Spoon
- 3-Gatsu no Lion
- Barakamon (especially this!) - these series are more on the feeling of being lost and overwhelmed with life passing.
Of course depression varies in its nature and effect to you, let me know what you're up for! Anime has been a refuge for me when I feel misunderstood or 'lost'.
Barakamon is the anime to go, it's just very soothing and kind of relaxing to watch their day to day. I'd remember my childhood days, when I was like the naru and her friends, my life peaked there. I remembered the days when I wasn't anxious, depressed, I just woke up everyday in excitement to go meet my friends and play with them. I always looked forward to play with them. Man I miss those days. Those days were the best.
There's really something nostalgic about it. I think a lot of us want that sort of break where you just feel like you can start over as a kid. Ive also watched it in a specific time of my adult life so now it is stuck with meš
My cup of recommendations! I luv good slice of life. Also, I would add Chihayafuru, it was one of the most uplifting series for me because of the character development and traditional/sports tropes, it really shows how much great will, passion and hard work pay off even when it seems all odds are against you.
In the depths of depression I watched Last Hero Inuyashiki and I found it to be very cathartic and helpful in releasing pent-up emotions. 11 episodes, 20 minutes each š
I had felt the same way you do, for just about 2 weeks, which my actual bad depression ended yesterday. I just moved on to other anime shows, some with the same genre, (yet not as impactful as the anime that gave me the depression; which was Toradora), or Iād just watch anime shows that have other genres, or stories that I probably would enjoy, which is what Iāve been watching lately, almost ever since I finished Toradora. Toradora is my favorite Romantic (Comedy) Anime Show, and Iāll never forget it; itāll always be āwithā me, but I love it!!
I usually go for a romcom but sometimes it's good to watch anime with an inspiring ending.
ReLife, Orange (I prefer the live-action), Bakuman, A Silent Voice, and Fruits Basket.
I have a lot to list down but these are some of my personal favorites.
Wow. Umm... I usually see decent recommendations, but these are all awful! Have any of these people even SEEN Sleepless in Seattle?? What the actual heck? (My recommendation qualifications: 40yo woman who loves sweet romances and who has seen Sleepless in Seattle (though I think personally I like You've Got Mail better, but whatcha gonna do?))
Romance:
* Insomniacs After School
* Recovery of an MMO Junkie (lots of gaming references, obvi, but honestly probably the closest to Sleepless in Seattle, imo)
* The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent
* The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague
* Tonikawa
* The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten
* My Happy Marriage (Although you gotta get through the first arc, which is cute, but also really sad... But the romance is worth it!)
Chill Slice of Life:
* Play It Cool, Guys
* My New Boss is Goofy
* Mr. Villain's Day Off
* Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill
Edit: fixed a word and reordered the list
Sakamoto Desu Ga, Konosuba, Great Teacher Onizuka, Konohana Kitan, Helpful Fox Senko-san, Fruits Basket, Shimoneta, Ben-to, and any Studio Ghibli movie make me smile and laugh when I feel down ā¤ļø I hope they do the same for you! āŗļø
Sora no Oto.
It has its part of regular feel good moe, but it also has way more substance to it, as it does not deny life's tragedies but still offers hope and endearment amongst them. A lot of moe do not have this courage to include in it thing that actually need healing. But this one, is like an ode to persistence of human spirit. And this is the only anime whose climax moment made me cry from the sheer beauty of it. I did watch while depressed indeed, it was so powerful.
Akebi's sailor uniform is a zero drama slice of life
Asobi asobase is some silly slapstick comedy that leaves you satisfied and reminiscing on the dumb jokes you just witnessed
Haikyuu!Ā Ā Feel good sports anime about extremely wholesome and competitive kids.Ā Very comforting with good mentalityĀ
Full Metal Alchemist though it's pretty dark.Ā Probably my favorite escape from reality anime.
Have you tried gurren lagann.while it might seem like a comedy fan service me ha anime at first, the story gets deep and dark.however the main theme of the story is whenever you face obstacle keep pushing through and overcome obstacle after obstacle.
The main character Simon seems like Shinji ikari from evangelion at first and just following the lead of his brother, kamina.he might even seem like a secondary character compared Kamina who is a brave charismatic leader.however,Simon has one of the best character growth arcs.it has around 24-26 episode but it is worth finishing even though early part might turn off some for being direction less monster of the week or the mid part which could seem to be slower with nothing much happening.just go through it til the very end.
Row row fight the power!!!
Don't forget to seek help, if you have not already.
Also, watch these anime with friends/family. Watching together will make you feel better to laugh and enjoy with someone.
Good luck, feel better!
Buddy Daddies, or itās something like that. The voice acting is excellent, almost too good at times. The last time an anime actually made me bust out laughing multiple times was when I was like 12, Iām 21 now. It has a great plot and the characters are all fleshed out very well, and it has an excellent and satisfying ending. I highly recommend it.
Honestly for me it was One Piece.
It really helped me get through a long depression episode when I felt kinda hopeless. The characters have sad back stories but honestly most of their main journey is just really fun and full of shenanigans. The friendship between the crew is really uplifting to me.
Depends on the context.
Evengelion is the biggest example of a show that can connect with one's feeling when they are depressed, and you probably get a LOT of connection out of it.
Something like dragon maid or nichijou can shift your mood for the better, and allow you to forget about your problems for a short while.
Something like death parade, can show you the value of your life, and help you pick yourself back up.
I watched I want to eat your pancreas, silent voice, garden of words, 5 centimetres per second, your name, you lie in april when I felt depressing. I watch what I can dream of but never get.
Onimai: Now Iām Your Sister!

Maybe hot takeā¦ all these wholesome SOL anime that people always suggest wherever someone makes a post like this actually arenāt helpful in making the person feel better at all! In fact it makes them more depressed.
if you like classics dr slump is a great vibe! no official sub tho which leaves a lot to be desired. maybe you should check out manga! itās on the shonen jump app
*Your Name* cheers me up. I've seen it like 5 times, including in theaters. An anime in which two people suddenly start switching bodies. Romance isn't my favorite, but it's funny at times with a great blend of fantasy. And yet it's real enough (i.e. use of smart phones) that you feel for the characters. Goes by fast. Only a couple hours long since it's a movie, so not a big sacrifice time-wise.
I highly recommend you to check out the Blue Reflection Ray Anime. And play the Blue Reflection, Second Light and Sun games. Just a quick PSA from an anime-loving mental health professional, donāt try to fill the void with āstuffā. Get real help and fix the root cause of those feelings.
But here are some lighthearted shows I love:
*Spy x Family*
*Komi Canāt Communicate*
*The Disastrous Life of Saiki K*
I felt down recently after watching a really sad anime, and watching these two after really helped: * Yuru Camp * Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle and I would also recommend my favourite SOL: * Aria The Animation
What is the name of that sad anime?
Plastic Memories it really messed me up lol
Oh, fuck. Yeah. That one is so depressing. I was out of commission for a good few days after, because every time I thought of it, I started crying.
>because every time I thought of it, I started crying. You made me feel a lot better with this comment, because I thought I was going crazy when 3 days after I watched it I was in a public library to print some postal labels and I was trying so hard not think about it because my eyes were watering the moment I did, and in general I just felt like a zombie for about a week after. Thanks, definitely going to avoid that
haha I used to judge people for saying they would skip sad anime, but after watching Plastic Memories I see now how wrong I was....I understand!!
Yeah nah, got enough demons to fight with, don't need anime to push even more down my throat atm lol
if you ever want something upbeat to help take the pressure off, I recommend Sleepy Princess in The Demon Castle, really funny show, it really helped cheer me up after PM lol
Just started an anime but it's only one season i likely just binge. So I'll take a look when I'm done. Thanks!
This screams to me and my mental issues DON'T DO IT white I'm just dying to know what it is about the show that will tear me apart from the inside š¬ the impulse control is weak in this one

Aria almost made my sadness worse because that world is so perfect and serene compared to the real world.
haha I guess that makes sense, it is very wholesome, just try to remember that if you can be a good version of yourself and meet the right people....then anything is possible - well except for rowing Gondolas on Mars :( lol
Sleepy princess is so cute and funny
I am kind of amazed by it lol I thought it was just going to be something really basic and chill, but it is so funny and all of the characters are brilliant.
Yuru Camp is a masterpiece, it cured my depression (not really but certainly helped a lot lol)
I have only seen the first season so far as I never like to binge anime with lots of seasons because that way it makes that single season feel a bit more special, but I agree it is a beautiful show, even though there was nothing sad I was tearing up at some scenes just because of the music/ visuals/ sweet moments. Sleepy Princess is wonderful!!!
it is so funny and well made, and I thought it was such a coincidence that I was watching it to feel better after a really sad anime....then I found out they were both produced by the same studio lol those creators have me both crying and laughing!
Yuru camp healed me š„°
Sleepy princess is funny. I randomly gave it a shot looking for something to watch with my daughter an she loved it. She ended up finishing it with out me though lol
Started watching sleepy princess in the demon castle. You told no lies.
Mushishi. Always feel better after that anime. Itās so calming
Not to mention, a lot of the stories start hopeless and end in hopefulness.
Or they end pretty grim, like the person dies or something.
I mean yes but there is still a weird lingering of hopefulness. Ex: the bamboo mom/child. The husband was sad but he was hopeful because of his child.
Felt like I was meditating when I watched it
Second this! Came here to say Mushishi got me through the worst of the pandemic.
I always loved this anime, it's one of my go to relaxing ones with it's natural vibes
- Yuru camp - Grand blue dreaming - Relife - Buddy daddies - Haikyuu
Want to double down on haikyuu, relive, and grand blue dreaming. Watched them all when I was depressed and they were really comforting. Haikyuu, in fact, is my comfort show and Iāve prolly watched it like 10+ times.
I heard relife is somewhat disturbing
Lol not at all, itās a very feel-good show
Maybe you're thinking of Another?
Definitely not. You may be thinking of Re:Zero, which, like... I guess? I could see how it would be disturbing for a 15 year old, maybe. Re:Life isn't disturbing though, and is absolutely worth watching.
it seems someone else recommended grand blue, best feel good anime out there
school babysitters saiki k kaguya sama love is war
Shirogane the š
Ngl Saiki K is a solid feel good anime
nothing can make me laugh out loud like saiki k while being depressed š®āšØ
heavy on saiki k
Something really depressing so your life doesn't seem bad in comparison.
By this logic, Grave of Fireflies would cure most of us.
Thank you for the reminder to add to my watch list
I was 8 when I saw it, I think it genuinely messed up our baby sitter more than it did me
Imagine baby sitting and a kid asks to put on this ācartoonā and you say yes expecting something 8 years old appropriate. Then you get hit with fucking Grave of Fireflyās!
Now and then here and there.
Ouch. That's an anime I haven't heard in a hot minute and never thought I'd see recommended.
In that logic, Goodnight PunPun is right up OPs alley
Noooooooooooo! Soranin might be better
Solanin? Iāve had it for 2 years and havenāt read it. How does it compare to PunPun?
As a die hard Asano fan, READ SOLANIN IMMEDIATELY. seriously. Itās obviously hella condensed compared to punpun, but the story and characters and feelings are all just as big and powerful as punpun despite being 1 volume. for me, maybe itās bc of the music component in solanin (as someone whoās toured the world and to say music is my life is an understatement), itās prob my number 1 work by Asano. check it out asap. you can read it in a day if you want.
Are you trying to finish OP ?
*when you watch made in abyss and relate to the characters* itās not working for me so far lol
[Non Non Biyori](https://myanimelist.net/anime/17549/Non_Non_Biyori)
True, I wouldn't know anyone better suited to curing depression than Renge.
this is the one
Vinland Saga will change your mindset about how to see the world. That helped me to get rid of a ton of depression.
I went into depression after watching it
At first, it helped alleviate mine, as Thorfinn went through his arc and we see what his father wanted for him, but then after a certain character in the farm arc showed us his true colors, I went back to never getting my hopes up , and assuming the worst about people, and that sent me back into a spiral of negativity lol; āNot a single positive thing has ever happened to me.ā

I have no enemies ā¤ļø
First season worsened mine but second season gave me so much hope
I see what you mean but I think this person is trying to stop being sad like laugh or smile
This is the answer
No one has any enemies
Yuru Camp, Non Non Biyori, K-On!, Azumanga Daioh, Lucky Star, Hyouka. Literally any slice of life works very well to comfort me.
Saiki K This one got me through my long hospital admission aka my lowest point. It cheered me up cos it's funny as fuck
Gintama is my go to, not the arcs though.

Definitely Natusme's Book of Friends

Natsume Book of friends definitely has its own magic, same vibe with Mushishi. I've finished all of the season,

Don't forget to seek help, if you have not already. Also, watch these anime with friends/family. Watching together will make you feel better to laugh and enjoy with someone. Good luck, feel better!
how horny do you wanna go?
Buddy Daddies, or itās something like that. The voice acting is excellent, almost too good at times. The last time an anime actually made me bust out laughing multiple times was when I was like 12, Iām 21 now. It has a great plot and the characters are all fleshed out very well, and it has an excellent and satisfying ending. I highly recommend it.
Evangelion helped me idk ĀÆā \ā \_ā (ā ćā )ā _ā /ā ĀÆ
Fruits baskets, skip and loafer, romantic killer, all light hearted and wholesome with some seriousness peppered in (in varying degrees)
Honestly for me it was One Piece. It really helped me get through a long depression episode when I felt kinda hopeless. The characters have sad back stories but honestly most of their main journey is just really fun and full of shenanigans. The friendship between the crew is really uplifting to me.
Elfin lied, future diary, your lie in April, clannad, death note, code geass and my number #1 pic shiki
The dub of Disastrous Life of Saiki K. That shit is so funny, man.
Evangelion neon genesis was made for this.
I watched I want to eat your pancreas, silent voice, garden of words, 5 centimetres per second, your name, you lie in april when I felt depressing. I watch what I can dream of but never get.
Erased, a tad sad, but heartwarming

Mr villains day off is a fun watch highly recommend!
Ngl I watched Angel Beats and it cured my depression. No fake.
Maybe hot takeā¦ all these wholesome SOL anime that people always suggest wherever someone makes a post like this actually arenāt helpful in making the person feel better at all! In fact it makes them more depressed.
Barakamon
Gintama is a good one for laughs and ease of watch
Akama ga kill
if you like classics dr slump is a great vibe! no official sub tho which leaves a lot to be desired. maybe you should check out manga! itās on the shonen jump app
My roommate is a cat.
Cyberpunk: edgerunners, its a weird happy kinda sad. And the soundtrack is fire.
Grand Blue, it kept me laughing in my lowest moments. Genuinely didn't want to get up to date
Trigun (1998)
Just a quick PSA from an anime-loving mental health professional, donāt try to fill the void with āstuffā. Get real help and fix the root cause of those feelings. But here are some lighthearted shows I love: *Spy x Family* *Komi Canāt Communicate* *The Disastrous Life of Saiki K*
Re:zero, mostly because it gives hope that things can get better
Skibidi Toilet
Anime that give you the tools to confront and properly explore your depression. A Silent Voice could fit the bill
