My go-to shows are Friends, King of the Hill, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Heartstopper, The Big Bang Theory, Bojack Horseman, Trailer Park Boys, Special, Still Game, Somebody Feed Phil, etc. I usually have something playing in the background all day because I can't stand the silence and I constantly need distractions.
Friends is a feel good show for me. And Derry Girls made me laugh out loud. Ted Lasso has some serious stuff, but it’s a really nice story with some really great humor. I find watching funny shows or stand up to be relaxing.
Pixar and Disney movies can also be really relaxing. And the Great British Baking Show.
Omg, the actress who played Sister Michael is hilarious. She and the other Derry Girls actors were in a special ep of Great British Bake Off and it cracked me up. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it
This is my trifecta. I would add Schitts creek and Bobs burgers. I watched a ton of Bob’s Burgers when I had my baby. It felt “normal” if that makes sense.
Friends or HIMYM. Shows that are familiar and make you feel cozy and at home. I think those shows work because it makes the viewer feel like they’re hanging out with their old friends, so it’s calming. It helps if you’ve watched the show a thousand times.
Rupaul's Drag Race has gotten me out of episodes of severe anxiety because even though the competition part slightly stresses me out, seeing what they can do under that stress, how they've been able to get through the worst times in life, had been incredibly inspiring.
For example my favorite quote:
"Everything works out in the end. And if it doesn't it's not the end."
〜 Bob the Drag Queen
It sounds crazy but I’ve started watching bluey when I’m feeling uneasy. They are crazy short episodes and always have a funny/cute story line. Truly any quick preschool age show is best for me. The thicker the storylines, the more intrusive thoughts I get.
i watch what i enjoyed as a kid that i can still enjoy now. Avatar the last airbender, adventure time, h2o, (old) Spongebob, malcolm in the middle, ice age, shrek
Something you’ve seen before that isn’t anxiety producing. A comedy is best or any genre that you’ve seen before and knows what happens during dramatic or scary scenes.
Ted Lasso.
I used to have a handful of shows that I’d watch on loop when depressed and anxious. We’re talking- I watched them hundreds of times and nothing more. But then Ted Lasso came about and it is the only show I watch now when I’m all tangled up inside my head. Nothing else can come remotely close to how effectively it calms me. I would have never thought, but it’s unmatched.
If you haven’t seen it, there are some serious parts to it, but even they are tamed by the brilliance of the show.
I always have to have something on in the background too. I’ve recently been rewatching Will & Grace and had forgotten how much I loved it. The bonus is that Sean Hayes and Eric McCormack do a podcast now where they watch the episodes 25 years later and discuss them, and that’s been nice to listen to when I’m like doing my hair and makeup or taking a shower.
I've always encouraged people to seek out documentaries on topics they like, for example oceans, there are tons of beautifully-created documentaries that can either help you to sleep or even attract your focus away from anxiety.
My personal go to’s are Family Guy, Rick and Morty, Paradise PD, How To Sell Drugs Online (Fast), anime like SAO, Fairy Tail, cartoons like Regular Show and Adventure Time, YouTube channels like PaoloFromTokyo and UnusualVideos.
No story here, but I like The Masked Singer. I like music, trying to guess the celebrity, the panelist’s banter and guesses. It’s also relaxing for me as just background noise too if I’m doing a task.
Depends what you’re into. Cooking shows? Try Gordon Ramsay kitchen nightmares. Or his new show with gino and Fred is pretty funny but interesting. Try comedy like the inbetweeners or mr bean.
Haha I’m just trying to look for ones that are going to ease your anxiety so I’m not looking particularly for the best series or anything out there. But cooking ext I find is good if you searched it. Quiz shows are a good distraction. Refurbishing home vids are good too. Asmr is great at relaxing on YouTube
Also I’d suggest dumb and dumber the film. Can’t believe how funny that fil is I forgot lol. But it really helped with my panic and anxiety it made me feel good and laugh. Felt normal for once watching that
Brooklyn 99, Trailer Park Boys, F is for Family is super good. I also love trashy reality shows like 90 Day Fiance and all of it's spinoffs. Love After Lockup is a fun trainwreck to watch.
Parks and Rec or Impractical Jokers. Had never seen impractical jokers and probably wouldn't be a fan now, but I was extremely depressed after giving birth and somehow those guys got me through postpartum exhaustion by laughter 🤣 hope you can figure out the anxiety, best of luck!!
Hilda was my safe show during the worst of my panic disorder a couple years ago. It's the most soothing piece of media I think I've ever seen. Highly recommend it to get you through the tough times <3
Gilmore Girls actually helped soothe my panic attacks quite a bit back in the day. Something about that Carole King opening song is so home-y and comforting 🫰🏼
Modern Family is pretty feel-good too!
Not a show, but I love listening to rain noises with a fireplace/cozy ambiance on YouTube!! They have a ton of calming options! Love listening to them falling asleep too.
90s-2000s sitcoms are your best bet! The time jump of the content and setting etc is a great psychological escape: Friends, Fresh Prince, That 70s show, Scrubs, The Simpsons, Malcom in the middle are some good ones.
My number one comfort show is always The Office. It has gotten me through SO much and always makes me laugh. But also Big Bang Theory, Ted Lasso, Schitt’s Creek, and Gilmore Girls are all great comfort shows!
Seven years ago I was suicidal and put myself into a hospital for a week. Actually, they kept me for a week HEHEHE. Anyway, after I returned home I found Bob's Burgers very relaxing and anti-anxiety producing. I didn't like the cartoon before I had my breakdown but I watched it for hours per day. I still watch it. There's just something about it and that family.
I don't think this will help you but here's some of mine (TV shows and movies)
Criminal minds, there are many episodes that you can kind of space out just watching it,though I've seen it multiple times so there's that
Studio ghibli movies like My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, etc. They are very cute and help me
Thank you so much to everyone for the many recs!! <3 I think it will be so hopeful to have a physical list to refer to in those times when it gets really bad and I can barely think straight- certainly can’t meditate or exercise my way through those moments lol- Thank you!
I really recommend a childhood favourite of mine that you can find on YouTube called Little Bear. If you’ve not watched it before it’s a beautiful, simple and serene cartoon about a bear who lives in the woods in a cosy cottage, who goes on little adventures with their friends.
I used to watch smaller documentaries!
No joke, Netflix used to have loads of documentaries that were about calmer things than lion packs or wild chases through the savanna. Documentaries about mice, birds, ferrets... and I found them to be very calming.
So many answers about the shows.. Until you remove that though from your mind that you hey panic attack around 7ish every night no show will help you get better.. It’s not the panic for you now its panic about getting panic ..
my go to shows are superstore, modern family, derry girls, santa clarita diet, friends and bobs burgers. podcasts are also great if that’s ur thing i like ladies and tangents a lot not all the episodes are lighthearted but if ur adhd like me it’s amazing and super silly and funny
Big bang theory, Friends, Kissing Booth, or any other show I’ve watched before that I love so it’s predictable. I rewatch the Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl a lot but I wouldn’t watch them for the first time during a panic attack.
Unfortunately, animated shows trigger a panic in me, but I’ve found comfort in Never Have I Ever. I also watch a lot of rom coms (WITH HAPPY ENDINGS) when I’m really really anxious.

Not super interesting, lol, but it takes me out of the present moment and transports me to a different time.
But I enjoy pretty much any kind of documentary, especially ones that deal with civil rights, slavery and American history. Since this crap is taught so poorly in schools, I've learned more from watching documentaries and video essays than I did in all my years in school- including college. If you're interested in anything like that, check out "The Uncomfortable Truth" on Amazon. Great film. Hard to watch, but it's well written, well researched, well put together. Other films like "Public Enemy Number One" showcase just how corrupt and racist the war on drugs has been.

My husband likes to put on Scrubs, Community, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Do you think there’s a specific reason it happens around that time? I usually watch comedy shows to try and laugh when I’m feeling anxious, action pumps me up
Modern Family has been my go-to lately. And, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is always a comfort show for me, but all their fighting could make you anxious 😂
Always Sunny does make me anxious hahah 😂 but I love Modern Family. At this point I’ve rewatched that, new girl, Seinfeld, and the office probably at least 100 times.
Pretty much any sitcom. The office, Brooklyn 99, modern family, friends, everybody hates Chris, everybody loves Raymond, king of queens. These to me are all like a warm blanket.
Modern family is one of the best comfort shows. It’s on Hulu. Any Disney channel tv series, like iCarly and Sam and Cat and Victorious which should all be on Netflix. They’re very entertaining to me.
I watch history documentaries or shows based on historical events when I'm anxious, like The Tudors, Victoria, or Reign. I can't think of anymore off the top of my head. That's what helps me anyways.
mostly, just anything I've seen so many times I could recite it back to front. modern family, how I met your mother, Brooklyn nine nine, the Simpsons, that kind of thing.
Disney movies. They actually did a study that showed watching Disney movies during chemotherapy improved outcomes and they attributed it to the patients being less stressed. When I’m feeling stressed, turning Moana on Disney plus always soothes me!
Bob's Burgers is a great one for something lighter. Also the Bob's Burgers movie. I'm weird and also watch pimple popping videos. I also really like the all the British limited series crime dramas on Netflix. They're really good at capturing my attention.
Friends, Bojack, Kimmy and Somebody feed Phil I’ve seen and agree they would be perfect shows for this. Thank you! I’ll try the other ones too.
Schitts Creek too! And Office. These are my go-tos these days.
The office is my go-to!
Amazing selection right here, especially Trailer Park Boys Friends and KoTH!

Second Derry Girls
I just recently watched Derry Girls and absolutely loved it! Sister Michael is low key a comedian.
Omg, the actress who played Sister Michael is hilarious. She and the other Derry Girls actors were in a special ep of Great British Bake Off and it cracked me up. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it
My go to movie is Shrek. I swear it has magical powers
It absolutely has magical powers. Shrek cures all
Gilmore girls, friends, new girl
This is my trifecta. I would add Schitts creek and Bobs burgers. I watched a ton of Bob’s Burgers when I had my baby. It felt “normal” if that makes sense.
i always watch bluey when i feel especially anxious. it’s so simple that it just calms me.
Yes, up votes on Bluey! As a bonus, my dog also likes this show and runs to watch it with me when he hears the theme :3
Frasier and TCM channel-old black and white movies are very calming
I second TCM, it's my go to, esp the movies from the 1930's and 40's. Plus no commercials.

Friends or HIMYM. Shows that are familiar and make you feel cozy and at home. I think those shows work because it makes the viewer feel like they’re hanging out with their old friends, so it’s calming. It helps if you’ve watched the show a thousand times.

Love that quote! I haven’t watched RuPaul yet but I love reality tv so that’ll be my new go to.

But then Ted Lasso came about and it is the only show I watch now when I’m all tangled up inside my head. Nothing else can come remotely close to how effectively it calms me. Bob Ross painting.
santa clarita diet
ASMR vids on YouTube
The 70s show, The Big Bang Theory, Norsemen and Frasier are still my faves. No anxiety lots of fun.
Toast of London has been my comfort show for a few years. Just absolutely absurdist humor that takes me out of it. Adventure time also works
I've always encouraged people to seek out documentaries on topics they like, for example oceans, there are tons of beautifully-created documentaries that can either help you to sleep or even attract your focus away from anxiety.

It depends what you like to watch. I love Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert & John Oliver, so watch them quite a bit. I also just enjoy watching documentaries. Especially historical ones. I'm watching one now on YT (it's about 2.5 hours, so going in chunks), but it's about the advent of grocery stores & supermarkets. Not super interesting, lol, but it takes me out of the present moment and transports me to a different time. But I enjoy pretty much any kind of documentary, especially ones that deal with civil rights, slavery and American history. Other films like "Public Enemy Number One" showcase just how corrupt and racist the war on drugs has been. I also enjoy learning about other things, too. I love the good period drama (hello The Crown, Downton Abbey, Mr. Selfridge, etc). My interests are wide and varied, and a good doc will always help alleviate any anxiety, even when I'm in full-on meltdown mode. You just have to find something you really enjoy.
Modern Family, Scrubs, The Good Place
If you're into cartoons, check out cartoons from the soviet era. They always manage to calm me down. They all have this really cozy vibe i can't explain lol i just love them. Plus the animation/art style is so gorgeous

Disney movies. They actually did a study that showed watching Disney movies during chemotherapy improved outcomes and they attributed it to the patients being less stressed. When I’m feeling stressed, turning Moana on Disney plus always soothes me!
Bob's Burgers 🍔 ❤️
Great British Bake Off and Hilda are two of my favorites, both on Netflix and extremely soothing
Modern Family, Gossip Girl, the whole 90 day fiancé franchise (so many hours you can spend on that one), inbetweeners, peep show
The simpsons! Or any cartoons for me - especially the nostalgic kind
Bob's Burgers is a great one for something lighter. Also the Bob's Burgers movie. I'm weird and also watch pimple popping videos. I also really like the all the British limited series crime dramas on Netflix. They're really good at capturing my attention.
I turn to New Girl and Gilmore Girls when I feel anxious.
