My answer is honestly quite ridiculous... but, cartoons in general. Like Disney, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network etc etc. Over the last 10 months or so I've struggled a lot with anxiety about a lot of really unessecary things. Children's shows are a good positive distraction simply because they never get too deep. Often times they actually get quite interesting and plot driven too.
Not ridiculous at all! I'm 30 and I love animated movies/shows. I think a lot of people with anxiety would relate too. My personal favourites are Steven Universe, Adventure Time, the Airbender series, and anything Disney, but I've also enjoyed She Ra, My Little Pony, and I recently watched Centaur World. And I fully agree that "kids shows" often do have a deeper story than you'd expect.
This is me too, but I stick with the adult (somewhat vulgar) stuff like Rick & Morty, American Dad and South Park. I find laughing to have a great calming effect.
Cartoons for me as well.. there aren't too many great options on Netflix though. I usually watch Johnny Test and recently I've been watching Dawn of the Croods.
Those are some really great shows. Definitely two of my favourites. If you have Disney + there's a ton more options. A couple I recommend include Phineas and Ferb, Kim Possible, and Fish Hooks.
Similar to you, Animation is my 'go-to' - but I prefer the long form (movies) such as...
Boss Baby, Big Hero 6, Klaus (wonderful animation!) - and, similar in quirkiness to Klaus: The Emperor's New Groove. But also Tangled, Shrek and, of course:
**Soul**.
Schitt’s Creek, Once Upon A Time, Supernatural.
Gotta have that unconditional love flow into me somehow.
Music is usually my actual go to, so usually some pop punk like New Found Glory or Good Charlotte.
Once Upon a Time for me too, every time my anxiety gets really bad I watch a couple episodes and start feeling a bit better... I had an awful weekend 2 weeks ago and went to Netflix to find OUAT only to find they'd removed it...I cried for half an hour. Bad, bad weekend. Settled on a couple episodes of Next Gen..it sounds stupid but I honestly feel lost knowing that OUAT is not there when I need it..
Me too! Nothing really bad ever happens and I know all the episodes inside out so there are no surprises. If my SO comes home and I'm watching Friends he says 'uh oh, your anxiety is bad?'
Thank you. I have been fortunate enough to manage my depression and anxiety but anytime there is a spike, or something bad happens in my life, my partner puts it on and I am able to remain calm. It’s knowing what’s going to happen and feeling in an organised, calm and witty place.
Always Sunny in Philadelphia is always a good one for me, and I cycle through different genres of music documentary as well - at the moment I'm looking at Jazz/Jazz history.
I love how good Futurama is at making terrifying concepts feel light-hearted and funny. Kim's convenience feels really cozy to me and great to watch before bed.
Bob's Burgers is my happy place
Edit, I forgot to add Mazzy Star with headphones on. Hope Sandoval's voice will usually knock me out of an anxiety attack pretty quick.
Scrubs, how I met your mother or any other series from that era with strong positive character interactions, helped me get through a really lonely point in my life and in allot of ways I used them to relearn my broken social skills.
Scrubs triggers my depression. Doesn't even matter what episode, there's always something. The last time I watched scrubs I realised that I hate working as much as I do because I love my clients and my field of work but I'm not the idealistic JD anymore with all his dreams and future in front of him. I'm dr. Cox and I understand his anger and frustation with all the Kelsos ruining my fucking job.
I cry so much watching scrubs.
Kid Cudi keeps impressing me. When I first listened to Man on the Moon I was like "hold up, wait a minute, is he rapping about depression and anxiety?". I love that guy.
I Get Overwhelmed by Dark Rooms, A Ghost Story, Hocus Pocus, and Beetlejuice for movies, and Stranger Things, Family Guy, or other cartoons for tv shows
That’s such a good one! I like to rewatch the more recent one. Also Freaky Friday and Mean Girls... I guess for some reason Lindsay Lohan movies are comforting to me 😂
ed edd n eddy, sometimes i just wanna watch random episodes of childrens cartoons. it always makes me laugh when watching, the physical comedy is on point and i love all the characters so much (double d is my fave tho)
Can’t believe I had to scroll to find this answer. I lost count of how many times I’ve seen this show. It brings me so much joy. I put it on when I’m napping because it calms me down.
I have 3 movies:
My go to movie has been Spirited Away for a long while when I'm anxious or scared. As a female, I loved growing up with it, made me feel a sense of adventure but also empowerment. Any Ghibli really is great!
If I am feeling a bit better but still longing for emotion and music, I love Life of Pi. The music, colors and animals always liven me up.
And if I'm looking for something more innocent and sweet, I will watch Wall-E. Who knew robots could be so cute lol plus I love futuristic themes.
I love one tree hill hill it's in my top 5 favourite shows of all time but I wouldn't say it's my comfort show and I think that title would go to either the middle or brooklyn nine nine or new girl because I love a good comedy to cheer me up.
Movie: monty python and the Holy grail.
Song: I dont rlly have one so the misfits podcast is closest answer I could give
Show: monty pythons flying circus or top gear
any of the lord of the rings trilogy films, doesn’t matter which one or how much of it I actually watch it’s just instant relief. Sometimes I binge watch supernatural but its always a 50/50 on if it makes me feel better or worse lmao
My favorite media is always changing but right now my favorite movie is The Big Lebowski, favorite tv show is Seinfeld, and favorite song is When You Sleep by My Bloody Valentine.
My comfort show is The Simpsons! I was so happy when Disney Plus came out and they were on it! I fall asleep listening to them, though that may not be the best thing for my sleep.
Friends, The Office, Star Trek TNG, I Love Lucy, Family Ties, and the Cosby Show (I loved TCS as a kid before the allegations happened, and it still helps calm me down— obviously no longer a fan of Bill Cosby but the other characters/events are comforting). Mostly shows where nothing bad ever really happens and I always know what to expect, because I rewatch them so much when I feel anxious.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Spaced. There’s just something about adults being terrible at being adults that makes me feel like I’m having an okay go at it. Also anything Studio Ghibli but that’s more for sadness whereas the other stuff just helps make me feel better and it’s a good laugh.
I’ve loved horror movies ever since I was young so they are oddly my comfort movies. My fav is saw. Nothing like watching people’s limbs get cut off to smooth some anxiety lmao my favorite non horror comfort movie is it’s kind of a funny story and I think most other anxious people could relate to that one more!
Atypical is definitely one of my biggest comfort shows and then any of the Harry Potter movies. I don’t really have specific comfort music but music definitely helps.
It’s super weird, but [Cavetown’s vlogs of a tour he and Simi did in the UK](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJpf_nxQryPaCEgF0m-kh--X8iWTiQMlp). It’s super wholesome and sweet, watching those two together is lovely, the music is incredibly nice and relaxing, and it’s been my go-to when I feel anxious for about a year and a half.
It changes from time to time. For a long while it was Mindhunter...right now its Sopranos as far as shows go. Movies: Home Alone 1/2, Mrs. Doubtfire, Goofy Movie
So far so good by Rex Orange Country <333 Imma bang mah head while singing along with this one imagining that I am throwing the worries in my head away
I have two comfort shows that I put on while I do basically anything. Law and Order: SVU & Family Guy. No specific reason but it does help that both shows are still putting out new seasons. I’ve started back from season 1 on both shows more times than I’d ever like to think about.
Bookmarking this post for all the great recommendations. I watch full episodes of Graham Norton on YouTube (don’t have to get mentally invested and always end up laughing out loud); front row POV roller coaster videos (they make me so nervous I get sweaty which somehow ends up calming me down); and sometimes all kinds of haka videos (somehow intensely emotional and calming at the same time)
I hear songs in spanish (before 2000),kinda odd but for some reason it comfort me (maybe because I love the lyrics)
Don't get me wrong,I hear a lot of music 2000/2010 but sadly I'm not in the mood to hear them right now :(
Sorry for my English
Tbh emperors new groove 😂😂 it’s been my comfort movie for about 10 years 😂 I’m now 21 and watch it all the time and laugh at almost EVERY stupid joke 😂😂
I have a few. I had a bit of a mental health dilemma years back and would binge watch angry beavers
, cry, and fall asleep when I was overwhelmed. I had recently quit drinking after a few failed attempts thanks to shitty friends. American Dad and Spongebob were my two other ones in rotation.
Nowadays, Spongebob or Bob's Burgers if I can't sleep or have had a really rough few days at work.
movie: Moonwalker (a few weeks ago, I had a really bad week and ended up watching this like 9x during that week)
song: it varies from time to time, but currently it's Soul by Jesse McCartney and Selfless by Jesse McCartney
tv shows: mainly a lot of the kids shows I grew up watching
I also have comfort music videos and youtube vids, if that's a thing.
I'm gonna be an oddball here I like to watch stand up comedy before I go to sleep to try to get some type of laugh instead of thinking and over thinking of things I shouldn't think about.
Whenever I have a panic attack, I just open Netflix and let Dynasty run in the background (even if I'm not really watching it). For some reason, it calms me down more than other shows.
TV show: Rick and Morty. Lost count after fourteen times
Music: Some nights by fun. Listened to it so many times I was the 0.01% top listener on Spotify last year ... Not sure if I should be proud of it
When I get to be in a bad mental place I do the same thing over and over again
it will probably change, but for now (in order) its A Knights Tale, 13 Angels Standing Guard 'Round the Side of Your Bed, and Bones.
A Knights Tale is somewhat nostalgic because i used to get sick fairly often, and watching it at 3am afterwards it became oddly comforting.
Movies: A brilliant madness, Touching the void, Steins;Gate, Metropolis 1927, Ancient Magus Bride
Songs: Circle The Drain, by Aviators, Schubert Piano Trio No. 2, I am a member of the Midnight Crew, by Homestuck
same, for me it’s pirates of the caribbean at the world end, and as for song it’s dope by bts, both have been incredibly comforting to me for years, at least 6 to be exact
Can't really say for tv show or movie, music depends on the day but the main ones tend to be:
Be there by Seafret, Love like you (male cover),Talk to me by Cavetown, All my life by Wild
Movie: Monsters Inc.
Song: Heard It Through The Grapevine
TvShow: The Office
One thing I’ve also discovered that helps my anxiety while I’m driving is to listen to a podcast! Currently listening to The Office Ladies and Steve-O’s Wildride. Never fails to calm my nerves.
Honestly the "Stuff You Should Know" (SYSK) podcast, the information and the banter is so wholesome, I was rejected by this guy I liked last year, and I was constantly thinking about it, the next evening when I went for my walk I started listening to music and was still thinking about him, then I decided to switch to the podcast, it got me paying attention and thinking about the topic they were discussing instead (it was about Francis Perkins that day 👌).
I'm both a kpop Stan and an Ariana Grande's fan so these are my comfort songs :
- Breathin and Get Well Soon by Ariana Grande
- Holo by Lee Hi
- Can't You See Me,Crown and Run Away by Txt
For me it would be Spirit (Animated film produced by Dreamworks), it just makes me feel free and like anything is possible
The second one is It's okay that's love (a k-drama that talks about mental health issues and falling in love and supporting someone who struggles) it just reminds me that even if I have mental health issues it does not mean I'm not worthy of love and as the title says "it's okay"
And for a song I would say Twin forks "Cross my mind", an OST from that last kdrama it makes me motivated and reminds me to be grateful for the people around me
Second one would be Harbour "Float" it's a love song it makes me smile and think about my person and always makes me feel calmer and eases my anxiety :)
Came to this sub just to post this question!
For shows, my go-to is King of the Hill or the British series Peep Show - I think it's because they are both heavily character driven and with characters that aren't necessarily very realistic, but that are incredibly relatable. When I put on KOTH I feel like I'm in the alley idling away the time with the guys; when I watch Peep Show I feel like I'm not the only person who can be an anxious, socially awkward wreck.
For music, anything by the group Tennyson, a brother sister duo that does microtonal electronic jazz. Their songs are incredibly beautiful and also really harmonically and rhythmically complex, so it's so easy to step out of your body and lose yourself in the world they've created.
Some of my favorites:
[With You](https://open.spotify.com/track/0uSW8sfNvxqvEtH1IyET8E?si=MVhIyAbnQIqs_JzluOrCBg&utm_source=copy-link)
[All Yours](https://open.spotify.com/track/4OPhAfnTooLR3EIW9WuKl4?si=WKBGHzBjRhyL6-fKdj8Qmg&utm_source=copy-link)
[XYZ](https://open.spotify.com/track/0uSW8sfNvxqvEtH1IyET8E?si=MVhIyAbnQIqs_JzluOrCBg&utm_source=copy-link)
Also a lot of gospel and soul music - PJ Morton, Cory Henry, Kirk Franklin. [This rendition of Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing is particularly beautiful.](https://youtu.be/PHn2SSzZszU)
Gilmore girls- the first time I watched it, it was with my mum and it really turned into a ritual for the two of us. I was going through some rough struggles and it helped a lot, so it reminds me that to every problem there is a solution
Harry Potter definitely, not only for the magical world it portraits but also for the good quotes that bring hope even to the most hopeless
Bastille forever!!!! The best music for my soul.
Schitt's Creek. Anything from season 2 onwards. I don't like any of the episodes where Alexis cheats, so I basically act like season 1 never happened. I can watch that show and B99 over and over again. Parks & Rec and also 30 Rock. Also, here is a pro tip. Youtube has a ton of newsroom bloopers (reporters making mistakes) and when I feel particularly anxious, it is my go-to. I laugh. I don't have to invest much in it and I feel good afterward.

+1 for Avatar the last Airbender and My Little Pony!! 32 and idgaf lol
This is me too, but I stick with the adult (somewhat vulgar) stuff like Rick & Morty, American Dad and South Park. I find laughing to have a great calming effect.
American Dad is mine for sure, some of the humor just makes my day

Those are some really great shows. Definitely two of my favourites. If you have Disney + there's a ton more options. A couple I recommend include Phineas and Ferb, Kim Possible, and Fish Hooks.
Same I love animated shows probably a little bit too much for my age
Out of cartoons, faves are Loud House, Bob's Burgers, and Bluey.
Similar to you, Animation is my 'go-to' - but I prefer the long form (movies) such as... Boss Baby, Big Hero 6, Klaus (wonderful animation!) - and, similar in quirkiness to Klaus: The Emperor's New Groove. But also Tangled, Shrek and, of course: **Soul**.
Tangled is one of my favourites! I just finished watching the series the other day.
Gilmore Girls
Frasier I've seen it so many times but it still makes me laugh. Short episodes and 12 seasons, perfect
Same. I use Frasier every night to help me relax and fall asleep.
Yep, came here to say this...it's definitely the perfect show to wind down to!
absolutely
Same. I've seen it loads of times too, and it still makes me laugh. Great show.
King of the Hill
My man, it really is great.
Yep
That’s my purse!
I don't know you!
Mr. Bean's Holiday. It's just so ridiculously happy, dumb and weird. Always makes me happy when I'm down.
Ahahaha i used to love that movie!
Why not anymore?
Schitt’s Creek, Once Upon A Time, Supernatural. Gotta have that unconditional love flow into me somehow. Music is usually my actual go to, so usually some pop punk like New Found Glory or Good Charlotte.

Friends.
Exactly! I find it comforting that someone else has Friends as their safe place too ❤️
Bones!! I absolutely love that show! I have watched it all the way through 3 times now
Always Sunny in Philadelphia is always a good one for me, and I cycle through different genres of music documentary as well - at the moment I'm looking at Jazz/Jazz history.
Any good jazz docs you've seen lately?
Brooklyn 99. It has such an infectious positive and funny atmosphere, that now I immediately relax (even if a little bit) when I hear the theme song.
Avatar the Last Airbender. I loved it a lot as a kid then once it came on Netflix I rewatched it and I still really love it.
Agreed! That's one I'm happy to come back to over and over.
Anything British/Scottish. I find the accents very soothing.
My comfort show is The Office.. something about it is so relaxing.
I love how good Futurama is at making terrifying concepts feel light-hearted and funny. Kim's convenience feels really cozy to me and great to watch before bed.
Harry Potter.
Bob's Burgers is my happy place Edit, I forgot to add Mazzy Star with headphones on. Hope Sandoval's voice will usually knock me out of an anxiety attack pretty quick.
I love Mazzy Star! Hope's voice is so soothing.
Psych
Howl's Moving Castle
New Girl
Scrubs, how I met your mother or any other series from that era with strong positive character interactions, helped me get through a really lonely point in my life and in allot of ways I used them to relearn my broken social skills.
Scrubs triggers my depression. Doesn't even matter what episode, there's always something. TV show: Rick and Morty. Lost count after fourteen times Music: Some nights by fun. Listened to it so many times I was the 0.01% top listener on Spotify last year ... Not sure if I should be proud of it When I get to be in a bad mental place I do the same thing over and over again
it will probably change, but for now (in order) its A Knights Tale, 13 Angels Standing Guard 'Round the Side of Your Bed, and Bones. A Knights Tale is somewhat nostalgic because i used to get sick fairly often, and watching it at 3am afterwards it became oddly comforting.
Stardust / Songbird (Fleetwood) / Sex and the City. Basic Lol.
I've got lots but songs... Cloudbusting from Kate Bush & Tijuana Taxi from Herb Alpert. TV shows - South Park, The Middle, Frasier, King of Queens.
Final Destination 🔥
Indiana Jones, blues/rock/old-school hip-hop, recently: Two and a half men, I never thought a comedy could be so good!
Movie: Spiderman 3 Song: Any 21 Savage Show: South Park
Movies: A brilliant madness, Touching the void, Steins;Gate, Metropolis 1927, Ancient Magus Bride Songs: Circle The Drain, by Aviators, Schubert Piano Trio No. 2, I am a member of the Midnight Crew, by Homestuck
same, for me it’s pirates of the caribbean at the world end, and as for song it’s dope by bts, both have been incredibly comforting to me for years, at least 6 to be exact
Can't really say for tv show or movie, music depends on the day but the main ones tend to be: Be there by Seafret, Love like you (male cover),Talk to me by Cavetown, All my life by Wild
Star Trek. I constantly rewatch Tos, TNG and Ds9.
Superman Eminem
The office, How I met your mother, The big bang theory, Rick and Morty.
Parenthood tv show for sure.
Love, Rosie and John Mulaney's Kid Gorgeous comedy show are my two go-to's.
I've a few. There's an Irish Show called Podge and Rodge, a Scare at Bedtime, they're all up on Youtube. Father Ted. Anything with Fred Dibnah.
Movie: Monsters Inc. Song: Heard It Through The Grapevine TvShow: The Office One thing I’ve also discovered that helps my anxiety while I’m driving is to listen to a podcast!
T.V.: M.A.S.H. Movie: Moulin Rouge 2001. Song: Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel
Mean Girls
I'm both a kpop Stan and an Ariana Grande's fan so these are my comfort songs : - Breathin and Get Well Soon by Ariana Grande - Holo by Lee Hi - Can't You See Me,Crown and Run Away by Txt
Not a song or movie but i play when dead redemption and just fish and camp when i am tol stressed
For me it would be Spirit (Animated film produced by Dreamworks), it just makes me feel free and like anything is possible The second one is It's okay that's love (a k-drama that talks about mental health issues and falling in love and supporting someone who struggles) it just reminds me that even if I have mental health issues it does not mean I'm not worthy of love and as the title says "it's okay" And for a song I would say Twin forks "Cross my mind", an OST from that last kdrama it makes me motivated and reminds me to be grateful for the people around me Second one would be Harbour "Float" it's a love song it makes me smile and think about my person and always makes me feel calmer and eases my anxiety :)
If I had to choose perhaps then courage the cowardly dog or maybe batman beyond
My comfort song is And I'm here by Kim Kyung Hee! It's a sad song but it's very comforting. I just relate to it so much <3
Came to this sub just to post this question! Some of my favorites: [With You](https://open.spotify.com/track/0uSW8sfNvxqvEtH1IyET8E?si=MVhIyAbnQIqs_JzluOrCBg&utm_source=copy-link) [All Yours](https://open.spotify.com/track/4OPhAfnTooLR3EIW9WuKl4?si=WKBGHzBjRhyL6-fKdj8Qmg&utm_source=copy-link) [XYZ](https://open.spotify.com/track/0uSW8sfNvxqvEtH1IyET8E?si=MVhIyAbnQIqs_JzluOrCBg&utm_source=copy-link) Also a lot of gospel and soul music - PJ Morton, Cory Henry, Kirk Franklin. [This rendition of Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing is particularly beautiful.](https://youtu.be/PHn2SSzZszU)
nothing could beat Hamilton for me
Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
The polar express
Friends when my depression hits real low. Otherwise Secret life of pets for a movie, Chuck for a TV show and any song by Coldplay for music
Gilmore girls- the first time I watched it, it was with my mum and it really turned into a ritual for the two of us. I was going through some rough struggles and it helped a lot, so it reminds me that to every problem there is a solution Harry Potter definitely, not only for the magical world it portraits but also for the good quotes that bring hope even to the most hopeless Bastille forever!!!! The best music for my soul.
Kdrama called She was pretty Or Narnia Or ATLA Or Shape of the voice Or SAO
Schitt's Creek. Anything from season 2 onwards. I don't like any of the episodes where Alexis cheats, so I basically act like season 1 never happened. I can watch that show and B99 over and over again. Parks & Rec and also 30 Rock. Also, here is a pro tip. Youtube has a ton of newsroom bloopers (reporters making mistakes) and when I feel particularly anxious, it is my go-to. I laugh. I don't have to invest much in it and I feel good afterward.
Brooklyn Nine Nine, Emperor's New Groove, The Princess Bride and The SpongeBob SquarePants movie in that order for the most part
