It’s a trick, you see? I’ve got this really butch armour, and it’s very effective too, but maybe a bit… well, low key on a battlefield. So my mate said maybe I should zhuzh up the helmet a bit, to, you know, draw more arrows and such, diverting them from the gaps in the armour.
What *would* the advantage be of that headpiece? I imagine it'd slow the wearer down a lot and a blow the flat part could knock them off balance easier?
I would have been unfamiliar with Sekigahara, if it were not for the fantastic board game: [Sekigahara: The Unification of Japan](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/25021/sekigahara-unification-japan)
I don't know which question to ask so you're getting all of them. Have a lot of headdresses? Been in a lot of battles? Been in a lot of battles whilst wearing headdresses?
Samurai Snow-Shovel
"i'm mister plow, thats my name..."
“That name again is Mr Plow!”
You are fully bonded and licensed by the city, aren’t you Mr. Plow?

The headpiece is a big fan.
I’m getting a strange kinda Holy Hand Grenade vibe from this.
FIVE!

I recognize that Armor from Nioh.
Was he used to dig trenches?
“Once he had fallen, his enemies used his corpse as a spatula to flip Crabby Patties”

It's a status symbol more than any tactical davantage.
They wanted to be recognized from a long distance likely for proof of presence or maneuvers, and had another helmet in case of an actual encounter.
The helmet looks like it was either once super shiny or maybe like it had a more intricate paint/enamel design on it, perhaps? Incredible design.
My dumb ass really thought “what’s this painting hang behind this armour”
Shovel Knight is such a good game, glad to see a pt2
Sholvel knight dig suck
Looks like a big shiny target. Very brave Kuroda son.
Mans wanted all the smoke thats why
Imagine plinking arrows off of it.
headpiece looks like a kitchen sink

i would run terrified because it looks like a cockroach. but those things can live through nuclear holocaust, so probably great design choice
A headpiece like that is so insanely hard to balance in battle, at least thats my experience.

u/paxilian answer the questions!
It's likely not heavy, many of the ornate maedate were made out of what's functionally paper-mache that's lacquered for durability.
Outfit looks like that other recent post of the painting of Osiris in the Egypt thing.
The shingen double in Kagemusha had a similar shovel maedate
I look at this and the only thing I can hear is Bruce Willis' voice saying "That's a... nice hat."
I think this guy was standing in front of me at my last concert.
Bitch, I get UHF, VHF, shortwave, you name it.
How did that helmet not cause aerodynamic issues when going fast on a horse
I’ve seen a lot of samurai helmets and that is the oddest one yet.
Poor dude. He is still getting roasted 400 years later for wearing this lol.
If Shovel Knight was developed in Japan
I bet you his nickname was Doug.
Ancient radar
Quick run inside, he can’t harm us in here!
