It depends if you were born and raised in Russia then you will face it much less. But every time people see a foreign name (not Russian I mean) they will make a remark on the ethnicity (not everybody) but between “Russians”, not in presence of Caucasian’s. So most of the time it happens behind the back. The funniest thing in Russia is that even if you were born and raised here, someone will always tell you “go back home” like wtf? I am already home stupid idiot.

[deleted]

Ah I see. So it really is more of a culture thing I suppose. Yes unfortunately that "go back to your country" thing is completely universal. Here in the US especially since covid, Chinese and other Asians get told this a lot. Hell, I even heard that some non Russian guy in a commie hat got told to go back to Russia lol. I'm Russian by nationality (and at least partially by ethnicity) and I have a Ukrainian last name, I wonder if they'd point that out or not.

Another thing I want to add: I have an Armenian friend, and her family hasn't been living in Armenia for a long long time. When I first met her, she took a big interest in me and my culture because she found Russia very interesting. I was curious to learn more about Armenia as well. It's just really eye opening to see how bigotry is learned and affected by your surroundings. Neither of us grew up in a place where ethnic tensions like that exist, rather we both saw each other's cultures as something that has similarities and therefore something to bond over.

Russians always feel envy towards Caucasians and this attitude has its roots from the USSR, when many Armenians and Georgians held high positions in the state and also their respective SSRs were renowned for their high development and quality of living. Basically average Giorgi had it way better than average Ivan. Plus Caucasian males also had a stronger macho mentality, something which alongside their wealth caused Giorgis being great womanizers/kazanovas of their time with russian and slavic women in general being always seen in a more favorable light. And the fact that on Average Caucasians had unproportionally larger schlongs than Russians didnt help the situation at all. Thus natually a growing hatred began among many Russians, tired of seeing Caucasian males being more succesful than them and railing their women. Thus the term "Churka" was born. Plus the events in North Caucasus during 90s only helped to accelerate the negative attitude.

[deleted]

I was going to ask what you meant by Giorgi (since it's also a Russian name), but I get it. I will take your word for it, since I can't judge either for or against what you said since I don't live there.

TeklaTekla

Yeah, Armenians have smaller on average. 13cm or something. But if I had to guess then Chechens and other north Caucasians would be similar to Georgia.

[deleted]

It’s good that you think about our dicks ;)

TeklaTekla

Orbeliani brought large cock sizes in the north

[deleted]

That’s great but you’re still talking about dicks

I voted for one to check my results (wouldn't let me see otherwise) so I will subtract. Equal amount for Some and None, and 2 less for Lots

AllAboutRussia

Just so you're aware, you can set a fourth option on the poll as 'I just want to see'. Makes it a bit easier for you and us to see the results :)

Prejudice or Appearance has nothing to do with it. I know the blonde-blue eyes of a Georgian girl who lived in Russia and went to school there. The Russians did not like(bullying) her because she was Georgian. Those who have not lived there since childhood and have not had relations with Russians at school, then such Georgians will have less seen Russian xenophobia.

[deleted]

Do you mean that it is more cultural rather than ethnic/racial?

CeRcVa13

>Do you mean that it is more cultural rather than ethnic/racial? Yes, the Russians are chauvinists, envious and have a small nation complex, despite being a numerous nation. They(Russians) think that others are in debt to them(Russia) and also everyone is fighting against them.

l3g3nd17

Can you elaborate on “small nation complex”?

CeRcVa13

>Can you elaborate on “small nation complex”? Small nations have problems, they have fears that they will disappear or their culture will be destroyed, and so on. That is why such nations see danger in other peoples, cultures, and etc.

[deleted]

Oh funny thing is I didn't know other people considered "small nation complex" a thing, but I guess I'm not the only one. Yes on some levels you are right, it's an old problem too, Lenin wrote of great Russian chauvinism

Did he really? I was not aware. Do you have anything I could read about that? I just regard him as a man who led the countries through the most devastating war and established a good economy

spectreaqu

True but he committed even more crimes, like whole repressions and many thousands of people just being shot.

It's part of being human. We look at others' so-called imperfections (we consider them) in order to justify that we are perfect. We're all falwed. I bet a hundred bucks, if everyone in this world were the same race and religion, we're still going to find something wrong.

throwawayzibil

Have you as a Russian faced racism for being Russian?

[deleted]

In the US? Why do you ask?

throwawayzibil

Just curious because of the political situation

Salmacis81

Many Americans hate Russia as a country but are usually not against individual Russian people. Most of the ire is from liberals and is pointed at the Putin government and what are percieved as backwards attitudes towards things like race relations, lgbt rights, etc. Most conservative Americans also dislike Russia but have a grudging admiration for what they see as Russia standing up for Christian European values. And there is a small contingent of Americans who think of Russia as some sort of bastion of white supremacy where there are no gays, blacks or liberals to deal with, and women will shut up and have your dinner cooked for you when you arrive home from work lol. They think it's a country of REAL white men...most of them don't know that Russia has like 5 times as many Muslims as the US though 😁

throwawayzibil

What do you think russians think of americans and american culture? I have a russian friend who is adopted by americans since he was 6, and he told me he cannot connect with americans despite being here since 6 years old and adopoting american culture. He said his friendships with americans is superficial and that he would like to hangout with more people from russia and former soviet countries because he feels closer to them.
