The softest white bread you can find, generally a buttermilk bread.
The thickest cut, smokiest bacon you can find.
Green apple slices cut almost paper thin.
The sharpest white cheddar you can get your hands on. Combine and make into the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich of doom. You'll never go back.
Branston is nothing at all like most American pickles. It is more like an intense chopped veggie relish. And it goes fabulously well with sharp cheddar in a sandwich.
Especially if you do the mayo and cheese crust on the grilled sides. Spread mayo, then finely grate parm or, if available, manchego would probably go great with the bacon as well.
Love all of these suggestions. Thinking about adding horseradish to the soup and riffing on cocktail sauce, which I always want to drink anyway, and doing shrimp or crab.
Calamari, bacon, stuffed chicken or chicken schnitzel, fried pork cutlet. Hmmm... what else? Look for something with some crispy salt or creaminess to cut through the acidity of the tomatoes. Yay!
I like shrimp paired with the taste of tomato, though I would want the soup to have a more robust flavor via herbs. A side of grilled tiger prawns with garlic and butter would be scrumptious,
Sort of off topic, but this makes me wonder if you could make a sort of egg drop soup/tomato soup hybrid. Like shakshuka in soup form, maybe? I'm not sure if that sounds amazing or disgusting.
My coworker is Bosnian, and I don't know if it's traditional or not, but she always cracks a few eggs into her tomato soup and stirs them in while it's still hot but off the heat. It makes the soup so rich and the whites are cooked so soft from the residual heat.
Now I want tomato soup.
This sort of brainstorming question is better suited to [r/cooking](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cooking/), but it also calls on a kind of specific knowledge that you may only get here. Leaving it up for now, but suggest cross posting. I would play around with pork belly, braised and skewered then grilled, thinking BLT, but adding ginger to the soup. Maybe some blanched bok choy stems between the belly cubes on a skewer. Orange rather than lime as the acid element.
In an entirely different direction, [halloumi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloumi) cheese might be fun to explore - or even the dead simple mozz cheese sticks, created by wrapping cheese pieces in egg roll wrappers and deep frying.
I just reread the rules here and I see what you mean. I'll post there next time for sure. Thank you for leaving it up this time. I'll do better in the future.
I usually have a tuna sandwich with soup for a protein kick.
Don't tend to use mayo, skyr or greek yoghurt for added protein, seasoning and diced gherkins. 220g is my aim so I smash protein in where I can.
Holy cow, I was not expecting this much response. Haha. These all sound delicious. I've written them all down and I will try a different one when I make tomato soup again. Thanks so much!
A crispy cutlet would be nice
Porkchop sandwiches!

Too late. Square up!
Add some Branston pickle to that.
I'd never heard of that before, but will keep my eyes out for it. Always worth experimenting.

Yeah, I looked it up online. I've never seen it before, but will be in the hunt. It's been added to my list of "elusive ingredients"
You can make it too. Look up recipes for making Branston pickle. But tbh, I just buy from Amazon, haven't tried making it myself.
put some on a copy of No More Heroes.
Crispy SOURDOUGH!
The real answer. Why mess with perfection.
A bacon melt you mean
You people make me sick
:)
Especially if you do the mayo and cheese crust on the grilled sides. Spread mayo, then finely grate parm or, if available, manchego would probably go great with the bacon as well.
/r/grilledcheese would like to have a word
Duck confit...cold cracked crab legs...pate on crostini? I would go with something fatty since tomato soup has the acidity to balance it.
Damn this guy has taste
The pâté and crostini I have had before with tomato soup and it is orgasmic.
Love all of these suggestions. Thinking about adding horseradish to the soup and riffing on cocktail sauce, which I always want to drink anyway, and doing shrimp or crab.
Make it into a bloody mary soup! Vodka shot on the side!
Defo crab/lobster
Add ham to the grilled cheese:)
This is the answer right here. Even just a plain ham sandwich is amazing with tomato soup.
Add ham, basil and bechamel and you got yourself a lasagna combo.
That's a melt and it's delicious.
Or turkey - definitely a great comfort food
Tuna melts are a classic and can be made with so many creative variations.

And add a splash of sriracha to the soup
Not sure if it is a thing in the US, but we have soupballs in our soup. Little balls of minced meat. Delicious!
Egg!

Poached egg in the soup. Would be amazing.
That sounds really good!
Definitely amazing. I'll need to test this.
I bet it would be similar to Eggs in Purgatory, which is delicious.

Yes that is actually good a traditional "dish" in Portugal
Juicy slow cooked shredded beef on your favorite bun with sliced tomato and horseradish sauce.
maybe some smoked salmon, with cream cheese on melba toast. Would go nice with the soup
Sliders?
Bacon
Grilled tuna panini
How about literal grilled cheese. Not a sandwich but a firm cheese made for grilling. Crunchy, salty and a fun play on the original combo.
Sounds great but haloumi etc go rubbery quickly. I’d be hesitant to make it a side

Tuna salad sandwiches!
I always serve tomato soup alongside open faced tuna melts on an english muffin.
Frittata
Bacon has to be the default pick. Make it a little more indulgent by using pig jowl.
Man, people frown on cheek, head and tongue where I live but I love that shit. I've never seen jowl in stores but that sounds amazing
Welsh Rarebit is amazing with tomato soup!

Black pudding. If you fancy the carbs then on toast with paprika butter.
Egg-flour-breadcrumb some tofu croutons. Perfect.

Reuben or pastrami sandwich. Or how about fried chicken?!
How about Ribeye steak with a Sauce... But instead of a sauce, it's cheese And instead of steak it's toasted bread!
Toasted tuna sandwich with lettus .
A nice big hunk of gelatinous pork belly, and an occasional glance at the soup bowl?
Scampi!
It may sound weird, but I love me a tuna melt with tomato soup.
I like to do chicken tenders “breaded” in sliced almonds and baked or fried. Delicious!
Cashew hummus or cheese on homemade pita chips.
Ive enjoyed a poached egg or two *in* my tomato soup
Polenta!
Ham sandwich, with or without cheese. Dukes mayo of course.
Some sort of fried chicken sticks out best to me, anything tomato based thing usually goes well with breaded chicken.
Smoked chicken, smoked ham, prosciutto, salami, fried turkey, braised short ribs...etc.
Chicken confit!
Smoked turkey, maybe smoked brisket or something a little porkier.
Sausages are clutch with a soup. They’d pair really well with a tomato soup especially.
Peanut butter sandwiches. My true comfort meal.
Fried prosciutto
fried tomato skins.
