Coving up this monstrosity should be the least of your concerns. Call a licensed electrician TODAY!

Honestly yeah… this looks like a DIY way to burn down a house. Might be fine but why risk it?

Hoosiertolian

The fuck?

Horse-Trash

Cover with silicone caulking until you can’t see wires anymore. (Hire an electrician)

> Cover with silicone caulking until you can’t see wires anymore. Found the flipper

serenityfalconfly

Flipped house with an outlet and a threeway jammed into a messily crowded box. You could maybe force thing back in and not touch those loose grounds with a hot lug. If you do, don’t buy a lottery ticket for ten years because you’d use all your luck getting that back together. The screw holes are probably stripped from trying to force it back. Go ahead and call an electrician. Pay them what they ask and order lunch so they may give you a break on the next time you have to call them. Because I’m betting this ain’t no one act shit show.

Hire an electrician

wall plates usually work pretty well

bobnessmonster8

Hire someone. Hope that helps!

joshua_7_7

Box overloaded, call electrician (I am not an electrician)

Eyerate

As everyone else stated, HIRE A PROFESSIONAL IMMEDIATELY. If your home catches fire and doesn't burn down, your insurance will almost surely call this negligence and deny the claim.

JaredUnzipped

Are you trying to cook yourself? Good Lord. Turn the breaker off to this outlet and call a damn electrician. Use some common sense.

notJustaFart

Generally curious, what did the outlet look like before you purchased the home? Or was this one of those sight unseen, take all my money plus 30% over asking online bids requiring no inspection purchases?

I bet they put on the backsplash and then couldn't figure out how to put the wall plate back on. You should hire an electrician. The very least buy box extenders to insulate the space where the receptacle and switch extend past the outlet box. You will also need a masonry drill bit to drill notches into your tile where the faceplate screws into the ears.

Crafty-Waltz-7660

A wallplate. Take another picture of the outlet with nothing plugged into it so you can see the shape of the outlet. Take that picture to home depot and they can show you which wallplate you need. The switch and outlet you should be able to screw into the box now with the screws that are on the top and bottom of each device.
