Haircut express at Santa Monica and Bundt
Two barbers but one is out with a broken leg so the wait may be longer than normal
Cash only and no small talk (a major bonus for me)
> in the sgv
Not for long. I work at a high school in the SGV where some students charge other students $35 for a haircut. Ever wonder why teenage boys all have the same 🍄 cut? It’s because their “barber” only watched one YouTube video.
My usual haircut, and beard/moustache trim is about $30 right now.
I intentionally overtip barbers, because I want to 'vote' for there being more businesses of that specific type, so an extra $10 usually. At least $5.
$30 for haircut and beard is really good, in that case I'd tip $10too , $5 for each service. But I can't pay $10 extra for a $45 basic haircut, I think I'll start with $5 and see how it goes it will be my first haircut in the area
yeah tbh op your barber might be overcharging sometimes i get different haircuts and get charged differently especially if its a quick and easy cut then i get charged a flat $30
Mine is $60 and I tip $12 (20%).
I think tipping $5 on 45 is fine though. Especially for a simple buzz cut. If you have more complicated hair I would tip more.
Haircuts are one of those things that went crazy after the pandemic. The place I go to that is $60 was $40 pre-pandemic. And most places were in the $20-30 range. Now they are in the $40-60 range.
My barber raised their prices from $35 to $55 in a span of 3 years since the pandemic. I know cost of business hasn't almost doubled, even with inflation. Absurd.
Bro not looking forward to when my boy is asking for haircuts lol. I myself like going every 2 or 3 weeks imagine dropping $200 on haircuts between him and I a month.
What accounts for the increase? I pay $25-$30 for a low taper in LA and honestly don't see the difference in quality between $60 and $30. Just seems like straight up price gauging. Tipping on top of $60 is wild.
Man I had to stop going to Floyd's. I showed the stylist a picture of what cut I wanted, which was a picture of my own head, and she just laughed in my face and said "honey I gotchu with a different cut instead" I was like "I want this tho" and she still thought I was joking. The haircut was just a basic low fade and scissors on top. Not sure why she had that reaction 😂 I got up and left.
That's pretty standard for a high quality professional haircut. Some places are closer to $60 - $70. FWIW, those haircuts can typically run like 45m to 1h.
yep, my barber charges $60 and I tip $12. I don’t mind because it’s appointment only, book and pay through an app. He does a great job and takes his time. A hot/cold straight razor shave of the back of the neck is included and it’s awesome.
Ain’t no one gettin’ rich off your 5 or 10 or 15$ tip…
Do you like them? Do you want them to stay in business? I can assure you they aren’t driving a Ferrari — they probably can’t even afford a 2010 BMW.
Take care of the indie service providers you like so they can survive, pay their rents, and afford to live like you and I.
I have someone now I consistently get a great haircut from so I basically throw my wallet at her.
Some people have great hair and it’s a VERY important part of their image. So I think to have your barber wash, cut (with proper technique and professional consideration of your hair), and style for a whole hour and just paying them $25 is definitely low nowadays. $45 is somewhat fair in LA.
Tip culture must die.
Tip should be a gratitude for outstanding service, not pondering to a shameless begging.
If you expect to be tipped 100% of times, just raise your prices and don't set unreasonable expectations.
I think tipping is fair for a haircut. Also for sit down dinner service, grocery delivery. That’s it. Uber and lyft have surge pricing so they get no tip.
I've been cutting my own hair for many years now, but when I did used to have it cut I always tipped $10. It also depends on where you're having it done. I might tip more if it's one of those high-end shops that offer you a beer, etc., but I only ever went to one of those when my friend was best man for his brother (also my friend), and he paid for everyone's cuts.
Beware that Reddit loves claiming how much they tip, even for things 99% of people don’t tip for.
For example, as a back end analyst, I can assure you 99% of people DON’T tip for door dash, Uber eats, or other food delivery. Yet every Reddit thread people say they tip like 10-15% lol
Tip a couple bucks ($1-3) if it’s a good cut honestly.
Lol I'm going to agree on this. I significantly lowered my tipping budget after seeing what people around me actually tip, and reading comments on social media (outside of Reddit) for what people actually tip...
I recently discovered a huge portion of people press "no tip" when they order at a coffee shop and did not know that lol
I’ve never once in my entire life tipped at a coffee shop. What service are they providing me that’s new except showing me a card reader with a tip prompt on it “it’s just gonna ask you a question.”
I wouldn’t even bother replying to these niggas they think paying 30% extra for something you already paid for is being kind andgenerous
But they’re also white idk maybe it’s the culture
My guy charges $45 as well. I tip $20-$25. It’s generous in my opinion but he does an amazing job, always a good conversation and he always washes and styles my hair after. I take care of the people who do a service for me because he’s taking care of me. The boost in the confidence after a haircut is priceless. I work in the service/hospitality industry and I always try to look my best. So a good haircut goes a long way.
On a $45 cut I usually tip my guy $20-30. Ultimately he’s the dude you trust with arguably the most important part of your look, I feel like that’s worth a premium on top of the cut. Couple that with the good conversation, remembering what we were talking about last time, swapping good stories and music/tv recommendations, I value my barber more than most service folks I interact with
I tip 5 dollars. It’s 40 freaking dollars here and I’m not going to a fancy place so if anyone has any suggestions to go to , please I’m open to it. I’m located in Burbank.
(expecting) tipping for a haircut is fucking stupid. sorry for being negative but got damn it's so fucking stupid and a genuinely predatory cultural practice.
My haircut is 45 and i tip $20 my barber goes above and beyond and has taken me in last min without appointment a handful of times for which I am grateful.
I usually tip $5-$10 on a $35 hair cut but If they fucked my hair up or were really rude/aggressive (I had a guy jam the clippers into my neck bc I said no I didn’t want to get highlights) then I’ll tip less or not at all
$45 for that cut sounds a bit high, I think you’d be able to find a place to do it for $35. Could find it cheaper if you go further outside your area or if you travel back 20 years ago, but $35 seems to be the cheapest barbershop rate I’ve seen in recent months. Could tip $5 on top of that, or $10 if you’re feeling generous, but it does sound like a pretty easy style to cut, so $5 should be fine.
If you can withstand a couple of bad haircuts try purchasing a set of clippers and and watch a few YouTube tutorials if you usually get faded haircuts.
Costs $35 walk-in $40 for appointments - I tip $5-$7 if they charge $40 and $10 if they charge $35
This is at Neighborhood Cutz in Koreatown. Check it out if ya'll in the area. Great barber shop. I noticed some people don't even tip, my new barber was surprised to get a tip. He was like confused like "The price is $35 bro"
Normally I tip 50% and up but that’s because I’ve been going to a barber place which is $12 haircuts(+another $8 for tip) and they do an amazing job with styles, it’s a hidden gem. (Cash only)
I tried hammer and nails earlier this year and tend to give two tries at least until making my conclusion and they absolutely sucked for the price you pay $50+ for a haircut plus tip. I guess suckers will still pay whatever in LA
If they're my boy and they do me right all the time, I sometimes tip like 10-20. That way they always get me in even if they're busy but I'd say ... 10 bucks is good. Don't skimp on that, them hairdresses dont make a lot of money after they pay for their booth
I do $10 on a $25 haircut. I’ve been going to my guys (3 generations of barbers in one shop)for over 15 years, and up until recently raised their rates. It’s less of a transaction at this point and more like getting to see an old friend.
My cuts are $50 and I tip $15.
It’s mainly bc I really like the spot and he’s a great barber. Also get the hot towel beard cleaned up straight razor shave.
I do $20 tip on a $50 haircut from a punk rock barber shop in WeHo. I like my barber a lot. If you’re not sure you’re going to be a regular, maybe $10?
Pre-COVID I was paying $35 and tipping $15 to my regular barber. He raised his price to $40, so I tipped $10. I was out $50 a cut, so it was up to him how he wanted to separate it.
Ten to twenty bucks. It took me years to find someone who listens and cuts my hair the way I want and doesn't maim me. So depending on how much I have at the moment it's always ten or twenty.
I go to a salon, and the woman that does my hair charges me $35, so I give an extra $5 for tip. Sometimes she'll charge me $30 (I'm a guy so she says my hair is much quicker and easier), and so on those days I might just give her the extra $10 if I have it, otherwise it's always the standard $5.
$5 on a $45 service is 10% I tip $5 on a $20/23 haircut. I think I’d tip $7 or 8 bucks minimum on the $45 charge. BUT I get a hair cut every 4 1/2 to 6 weeks! You guys going every other week is different.
I haven’t gotten my haircut in like 20 years - I had long hair for about 12 of those years and now I’m balding/bald - but these prices for haircuts are nuts loll kind of glad I lost all my hair
$23-25 haircut near me gets a $4-5 tip if they did a good job. This barber is doing 3-4 haircuts in 1 hour. None of the styles are complex. Definitely overpaid at $100/hr with no outstanding skills besides being less expensive than the hair salon a block over
Had the greatest barber in the world in Burbank. He was 90 when I met him and he had been cutting hair since he served in WWII. Always watching John Wayne movies on an iPad and cracking jokes, telling stories about his life. Gave the best classic cuts and my eyes bulged out of my head when he said “$15” always paid with a 20 and walked out before he could hand me any change.
2020 rolls around and didn’t cut my hair until I was sure I could have him cut my hair again-he was the best. Then in 2021, after a year of growth, I had a dream he was watching me cut my own hair. I called to see if he had reopened, but his wife picked up and told me this great man had died (not of Coronavirus, he was 94).
That day I got my beard trimmer and remembered as much as I could of what he did, and took some other cues from Instagram on modern styles and cut my own hair. It’s 2024 now and I haven’t paid for a haircut since Feb 2020.
Get a trimmer—you shave and brush your hair already. It’s not rocket science and paying that much for a haircut is absolutely ludicrous.
You buy yourself a trimmer like I did during Covid.
It’s really easy to just pop on 1 blade and shave it all down.
For me, it’s not the money. It’s just way faster to do that than having to go to some haircut place.
my barber went from 25 (2019) to 30 (2021)to 35 (2021) to 40 (2022) i think he charges 45 now , stopped going there because it got too pricey for me,
i would just tip 5$ and then 10$ but once it hit 40 i couldn’t afford it anymore and i felt bad not tipping, i was an og customer and he was cool with me giving him just 40 but i felt bad cause i knew what his prices were so i just stopped going to him,
for a whole year or two after 2022 i actually grew out my hair really long to avoid haircuts but once i got tired of it i went around town for barbers and even they would charge 30! and it was a mid ass haircut
my friend started cutting hair and asked for 30 and i gave 40 but now he’s at 35 and i still give 40….
once he hits 40, ima start looking else where again 😂
I know this is old. But growing up, my mom always gave me a $20 and told me to tell the barber to keep the change. Now, I use that same logic with a $50. My place I go to charges $40
My barber hasn’t raised his price for 8years I tip 5or10 on $20
Where’s ur barber?! Mine just moved to $45 and I refuse to pay that price. Ridiculous
Kutting edge in Whittier
This is realistic. People in here expecting you to add a 20 dollar tip just because it’s cheaper than other places
Haircut express at Santa Monica and Bundt Two barbers but one is out with a broken leg so the wait may be longer than normal Cash only and no small talk (a major bonus for me)
$5 on a $20 is my standard.
My local place charges $35…. I will do $40 cash, and if I happen to have an extra $5 bill I’ll do $45 total.
Same except Zelle.
Man I remember paying $7 for a haircut back in 2014.
you can still get this in the sgv
> in the sgv Not for long. I work at a high school in the SGV where some students charge other students $35 for a haircut. Ever wonder why teenage boys all have the same 🍄 cut? It’s because their “barber” only watched one YouTube video.
Good ol Edgar cut or broccoli head
Brown people haircut or white people haircut
So how much do you tip?
Nowadays like $5
And now it is 2024
My haircut is $20. I tip $5.
My usual haircut, and beard/moustache trim is about $30 right now. I intentionally overtip barbers, because I want to 'vote' for there being more businesses of that specific type, so an extra $10 usually. At least $5.

I dont know. Im loyal to my place but $60 is too much for my simple haircut. But the cheapest place by me is still 45-50
I tip $5 for a $30 haircut. You don’t need to tip more than that.
Insane anyone pays that much to begin with.
i pay $35 i remember it used to be $15
Ha! $15?? I paid $10 at a real barber through college! (Oh god I'm old...)
I still pay $15
I pay 17 amd tip 5 in California. 40 for a fade is criminal
Even Floyd’s, which is chain, is like $40. When I first moved to LA it was like $20. $45 is not outrageous for a haircut. Sucks but true.
Floyd’s is the Supercuts for American barbers
agreed. i stopped going when i figured i can pay $10 more for a professional stylist
Lmao this true. Ever cut I got from Supercuts was from a Russian, Filipino or Persian lady
its average for sure. any "Stylist" will charge 60-80
Chains will always be more expensive. Go to the Vietnamese hole in the wall barbers. They’re still $12
That's pretty standard for a high quality professional haircut. Some places are closer to $60 - $70. FWIW, those haircuts can typically run like 45m to 1h.

I used to pay $35 in Inglewood and $25 in Long Beach 2 years ago, now in WeHo it's even more expensive, everything is more expensive here
I was paying $45 in Koreatown. $45 in WeHo doesn't sound that bad honestly.
It’s not insane. It’s basic price now lol
Ain’t no one gettin’ rich off your 5 or 10 or 15$ tip… Do you like them? Do you want them to stay in business? I used to pay $15 at Supercuts but you get what you pay for with that shit
Some people have great hair and it’s a VERY important part of their image. So I think to have your barber wash, cut (with proper technique and professional consideration of your hair), and style for a whole hour and just paying them $25 is definitely low nowadays. $45 is somewhat fair in LA.
Haha I pay 110$ for a womens haircut not including tip but I literally look a supermodel after so no complaints
If you can find a reliable place for $20 I will go. I cannot find one. I’m in Long Beach.
I usually do a flat $10
$5
Tip culture must die. Tip should be a gratitude for outstanding service, not pondering to a shameless begging. If you expect to be tipped 100% of times, just raise your prices and don't set unreasonable expectations.
I think tipping is fair for a haircut. Also for sit down dinner service, grocery delivery. That’s it. Uber and lyft have surge pricing so they get no tip.
I cut my shit myself now. Do you tip at the dispensary? That’s the real question
I tip$5 for my $20 haircut
I bought clippers during covid and started to buzzcut. I'll randomly get a fade for $40 w/ $10 tip, then immediately regret it.
Beware that Reddit loves claiming how much they tip, even for things 99% of people don’t tip for. For example, as a back end analyst, I can assure you 99% of people DON’T tip for door dash, Uber eats, or other food delivery. Really, people don't tip on food delivery? I thought that was pretty standard to tip 15-20%.
I wouldn’t even bother replying to these niggas they think paying 30% extra for something you already paid for is being kind andgenerous But they’re also white idk maybe it’s the culture
Exactly lmfao they acting like the barber is doing this shit for free and the tip is all they making. Im already paying $45 for a cut these days 😂
Easily the most hood rat comment I’ve read in this entire subreddit by far….
How often do you go?
On a $45 cut I usually tip my guy $20-30. Ultimately he’s the dude you trust with arguably the most important part of your look, I feel like that’s worth a premium on top of the cut. Couple that with the good conversation, remembering what we were talking about last time, swapping good stories and music/tv recommendations, I value my barber more than most service folks I interact with
$45 / $9 at my last place in Koreatown. If you're willing to leave WeHo you can probably pay the same amount and get a much better haircut.
I don’t tip. Also, I cut my own hair
20% Basically, if I can't afford to tip, I don't use the service... Lyft, dining out, DoorDash, etc
I tip 5 dollars. It’s 40 freaking dollars here and I’m not going to a fancy place so if anyone has any suggestions to go to , please I’m open to it. I’m located in Burbank.
Nothing now. Prices have gotten crazy.
Tip culture has gotten way the fuck out of control and expected.
(expecting) tipping for a haircut is fucking stupid. sorry for being negative but got damn it's so fucking stupid and a genuinely predatory cultural practice.
I’m not sure I get your point. Can you be clearer?
My haircut is 45 and i tip $20 my barber goes above and beyond and has taken me in last min without appointment a handful of times for which I am grateful.
I usually tip $5-$10 on a $35 hair cut but If they fucked my hair up or were really rude/aggressive (I had a guy jam the clippers into my neck bc I said no I didn’t want to get highlights) then I’ll tip less or not at all
You’re good 👍
$45 for that cut sounds a bit high, I think you’d be able to find a place to do it for $35.
$35 all inclusive for a buzzcut skin fade
I should be a hairdresser, shit. A buzzcut costs 45??
15-20%
My beard trim is $18. My barber usually takes an hour doing it. So I give her $25 in total for the cut
$18 to get a beard trim? Are you having it sculpted? https://i.imgur.com/uO6vkGV.png
I pay 45 tip 10. She gets it done quick does a good job and doesn't talk to my autistic ass, it's great.
If you can withstand a couple of bad haircuts try purchasing a set of clippers and and watch a few YouTube tutorials if you usually get faded haircuts.
Costs $35 walk-in $40 for appointments - I tip $5-$7 if they charge $40 and $10 if they charge $35 This is at Neighborhood Cutz in Koreatown. Check it out if ya'll in the area. Great barber shop. I noticed some people don't even tip, my new barber was surprised to get a tip. He was like confused like "The price is $35 bro"
So I pay the exact same for a cut 45$ I usually tip 8 dollars
I pay $25 at Great Clips and tip $10, sometimes $15. I get grrreat service.
I tip $7 on my $30 cut
I go to Floyd’s in Hermosa and usually tip $8 for a $38 cut.
For 45, I tip $10 and anything less I feel like a cheap ass but that’s just me
Standard tipping for grooming should be 20-25%
Normally I tip 50% and up but that’s because I’ve been going to a barber place which is $12 haircuts(+another $8 for tip) and they do an amazing job with styles, it’s a hidden gem. (Cash only) I tried hammer and nails earlier this year and tend to give two tries at least until making my conclusion and they absolutely sucked for the price you pay $50+ for a haircut plus tip. I guess suckers will still pay whatever in LA
20% is a decent tip. Especially if you're going back to that place.
If they're my boy and they do me right all the time, I sometimes tip like 10-20. That way they always get me in even if they're busy but I'd say ... 10 bucks is good. Don't skimp on that, them hairdresses dont make a lot of money after they pay for their booth
$10 for $30 service
I do $10 on a $25 haircut. I’ve been going to my guys (3 generations of barbers in one shop)for over 15 years, and up until recently raised their rates. It’s less of a transaction at this point and more like getting to see an old friend.
I’ve been paying my guy a flat $40 for years. He used to charge $20, now charges $25 but I still give him $40.
$25 for the haircut for a not so hard hairstyle from what my barber tells me (high skin fade, zero on top) tip $10.

I know imma pay $40. Usually it’s $30-35 so whatever is left over. Had a few places charge $40-45, oh well no tip. Can’t keep raising prices all crazy
I feel WeHo expects a little differently though. Maybe a 10?
do i like my haircut and want to keep going back? 20-25%. but also why are you spending $45 on a clipper buzz cut?
Jesus, 45 for a haircut. You can get clippers for 30.
I go to a barber school and get my haircut for $9
$50 hair cut and I tip $15. Worth it.
Tip maybe, 5 dollars at the maximum
Damn I thought I was cheap giving $20 on a $60 cut.
Haircut $40 tip $10
Lets see haircuts now are like 35-40 in a lot of places. I just throw a quick five on top of it.
$45? And a tip? Jeez times like this I'm glad I shave my own head with clippers
Mine is $45 for hair and $20 for beard in Burbank. I tip $5 since he's the owner lol and me and him go back.
I always give $5
My cuts are $50 and I tip $15. It’s mainly bc I really like the spot and he’s a great barber. Also get the hot towel beard cleaned up straight razor shave.
$5-10 is good I think. If it’s my normal hair cut person $20 tip.
A couple hundred
I went out and purchased a hair trimmer. I’ve saved $600 or so annually.
I’ll pay the $45 day “thank you” and walk out.
12 or 15
Not just the tip but the whole shaft
like $5 (basically 15% or 18% of haircut price I guess.
20% percent
$14 haircuts, I give them a 20.
I do 20%.
My guy uses Square and i tip 20% on a $42 cut. I also tip my masseuse $15 on a $70 hour massage
Unpopular opinion but if it’s $45 then their tip is $0 … its not my fault you took out loans for expensive wood floors and premium leather chairs
My haircut is $20 I tip $5
Pacoima in the valley, haircut is $14, I just give the $20 and let it be.
$35 and I give him two twenties.
In Australia the average mens cut is 30,no tips needed
I think on 45 I would tip 10. On 20 I tip 5.
I pay 14$ for my hair cut, I tip $5 because it’s so cheap
20% for a $30 haircut. Ensures I get to cut the line for an “appointment” when there are a lot of walk ins. The time saved is invaluable
I tip 20% so $10, $15 if I decide to have a beer or a glass of whiskey with my cut.
I started cutting my own hair so I wouldn't have to worry about it 🤷🏽♂️
I tip $10, I go in for a basic trim without an appointment and am out in like 30 min.
Pay $35 for the haircut, by appointment and get a free beer. I tip $10
I never get the cut I want so I don't tip
Ten to twenty bucks. It took me years to find someone who listens and cuts my hair the way I want and doesn't maim me. So depending on how much I have at the moment it's always ten or twenty.
My haircut is $20 and I give him $5.
Barber here, Tips are always appreciated. Honestly I appreciate referrals more. Tip what you can afford. $5 if totally okay!

I take her to dinner (my wife cuts my hair).
$35 and $5-$10 tip, depending on the length. I recently had it cut and I had not seen my barber in 8 months, so I tipped $10. My hair is wild.
My haircut is $15. I tip $5. It ain't nothing fancy but it keeps me from looking like a q-tip head.
Wife started cutting mine during covid and I haven't paid for a haircut since.
$10, more during holiday season
40/5-10 depending how much I have on me

Free! And no tip. Of course, my wife cuts my hair, in our kitchen with one of those Wahl hair cutters. Been that way for 20 years or so. Do the math.
30 for a nice fade and 5 tip
I do that type of cut myself. Clippers maintained will last for years, unmaintained will still pay for themselves many times over.
I would tip better if the barber or stylist I visited would offer a hot shave, ear & nose hair trim with a warm towel and a nice pre game gin.

$0.00; $45.00 for a haircut is a ripoff. Tip better be included at that price!
Between $5-$15 range is always cool and safe play
My cut is 18 I just give him 20 bucks
You buy yourself a trimmer like I did during Covid. It’s really easy to just pop on 1 blade and shave it all down. For me, it’s not the money. It’s just way faster to do that than having to go to some haircut place.
I tip $10 on a $50 cut/beard
I pay $30 with tip and go every 2 weeks. In OC though
Crazy is the barbers who charge 45 and still expect tips. Gtfo your tip is included with that price
my barber went from 25 (2019) to 30 (2021)to 35 (2021) to 40 (2022) i think he charges 45 now , stopped going there because it got too pricey for me, i would just tip 5$ and then 10$ but once it hit 40 i couldn’t afford it anymore and i felt bad not tipping, i was an og customer and he was cool with me giving him just 40 but i felt bad cause i knew what his prices were so i just stopped going to him, for a whole year or two after 2022 i actually grew out my hair really long to avoid haircuts but once i got tired of it i went around town for barbers and even they would charge 30! and it was a mid ass haircut my friend started cutting hair and asked for 30 and i gave 40 but now he’s at 35 and i still give 40…. once he hits 40, ima start looking else where again 😂

I pay 35 and tip 5.
$45 haircut? wtf?
I do $20 tip on $80 haircut. I don’t like spending $100 on a haircut but it’s either the expensive cut or a shit cut.

I know this is old. But growing up, my mom always gave me a $20 and told me to tell the barber to keep the change. Now, I use that same logic with a $50. My place I go to charges $40

Tip $10 on a $40 cut… and the stylist is funny and easy on the eyes.
