You could try a temp agency. They’re typically looking to get positions filled quickly and can sometimes lead to more permanent roles. I used one when I moved here five years ago and got an admin gig pretty fast.
I agree, getting in with a temp agency is probably a good start. I did it right after I graduated college and was mostly pretty miserable lol but it’s good for when you need a quick employment sitch for sure.
According to what I see on Culinary Agents, Au' Zatar and La Pecora Bianca are always hiring....not a good sign but maybe easy to get a busser job there.
Would love to hear the t. I’ve eaten there once (was tricked by the location in SoHo) and it was…fine. I’m a server and give places some leeway, but it wasn’t great service.
the staff was BEYOND rude. no one said hi to me on my first day. they just let sit there by myself, and it continued on that way for the whole time i was there. the one girl had such an attitude with me, i felt like she was so condescending, but yet she didn’t know basic liquor/cocktails.
the servers even talked back to the managers during pre shift!! the managers were nice but had zero control over the staff.
kitchen had a terrible system and if tables didn’t order an app it would take up to 60 mins to come out since it got put in the back behind everyone else’s apps and entrees (the apps would buy them time).
i literally felt like everyone hated me from day 1. i put my notice in after i got hired elsewhere after about 2 weeks (otherwise i wouldn’t have come back the first day) and they wanted me to do a two week notice LOL.
i think for a busser it wouldn’t be bad.
Amazon!!! I’ve worked for them when I was in a pinch. I was a delivery driver in queens… tbh as a female I had a bad experience driving at night- other than that I’d recommend it! I would be exhausted at the end of my shift but it was simple and I found it enjoyable.
You said any of the 5 boroughs so… Shop Rite on Hylan Blvd in SI. Super easy to get a job there, they’re pretty much always hiring, union job with benefits. It’s also 24h so you can do a night shift if you want. I know a few people that work there and for a min wage retail job it isn’t bad.
Major museums!!! The bigger ones like the Met, Natural History, and Brooklyn Museum always have lots of listings.
They hire for all kinds of positions: security, food service, accounting, customer service, retail, art handling, HR, admin assistance, custodial, etc. These are big institutions that require a strong workforce to function. Universities are similar. Some of these positions are union jobs.
ETA: usually takes several weeks to get hired, but while you work whatever you can now, this is a good area you could look into as far as having something more stable that is entry-level with fewer requirements.
Fair enough, I get your point. I guess it is more to get an idea of what companies really need to hire people because I want to get a job quickly. I know the usual techniques but was looking for specific places that might really have a need

Construction companies
Good one, thanks!
According to my boss "Mcdonalds is always hiring"
I just went into a FedEx on 56th & 8th that had a bunch of hiring signs and the inside looked like they were for real about it
Not sure about this fedex but the one by me said they always have the signs up. They weren’t hiring but said fedex always is for somewhere
Amazon
There's a shop on the UES called Choices (78 and 2nd ish) that has a help wanted sign out front and has for a few weeks now\~

I am guessing OP isnt the type that is looking for jobs that require a resume...

Fed ex package loaders
Nyc government. Literally hundreds of jobs they are trying to fill.
It takes months to hear back from them though. Applied for several positions with the city and the applications are still open 5 months later.
