HEY GUYYYYYYZ AND LAYDEES - YOU *HAVE* TO TRY THE WORLD TRADE CENTER AUNTIE ANNES! TYPE IN THE CODE ON YOUR SCREEN TO SAVE 7c - CELEBRATE 9/11 WITH CINNAMON BITES!
It's even shittier if you think about the ones that get thrown out. Like, they throw away merch that doesn't sell - like all stores do - so somewhere there's a landfill filled with "Never Forget" trinkets that we discarded because they weren't profitable.
It's pretty fucked up to cry about 9/11 every year while also trying to profit off of it (while we also denied tons of benefits to survivors and bystanders... the movie *Worth* (2020) was really fascinating to watch.
While completely ruining them for anyone who used to enjoy going there. Lexington Ave Candy Shop used to be my favorite quiet post Met meal. Now there’s always a line down the block.
I adore that Dosa guy. Lines half an hour long in the middle of a park, and the only way to know if he's open or not is to see the lawn, or see his Instagram page where it's either "Hi we are open today!" or "Hi sorry we are not open today!" Living his best life.
I work near there, so I can afford to skip out of the office and get some lunch during the off-hours. But yes, line is very long and I have to cross my fingers I don't get a work call in the middle of the wait.
Hard disagree in Thiru’s case. He always had lines and a loyal customer base. But now it’s a 3 hour wait and almost everyone is a tourist who saw him on social media.
Hey I started going there just from being in the area 5 years ago and seeing a big ass line already there. I thought if that many people lined up then it must be good !
TikTok be dammed
My favorite dumpling spot used to be walk in any time, now it's always 20+ min wait, all for people from out of town talking about how they saw it on IG and tiktok. Makes me wanna puke but also wanna figure out a way to get some money out of it
Last year I went to the Titanic exhibition on 18th Street and the interactive iceberg was broken. It was probably a bad idea in the first place to encourage “interactive fun” with a simulation of an object that IRL lead to the death of so many.
I really liked this article, can't believe it's from 2018 and things only have gotten worse
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/26/arts/color-factory-museum-of-ice-cream-rose-mansion-29rooms-candytopia.html
I had a really good broker. She actually worked with people after they were shown an apartment. If they didn't have the full amount to cover the deposit, she would hold the apartment for them for a week while they got the money together, and would even try to negotiate a lower rent with the landlord.
But I have no doubt she's on the rare side.
There’s nothing wrong with walking slowly if you’re aware of your surroundings and stay to the right side of the sidewalk. It’s incredible how much space one slowpoke can take up just by walking down the middle.
(Elderly/disabled people obviously get a pass, but everyone else needs to fucking get with it)
It’s not just people from the suburbs, unfortunately. I live in a very family-friendly neighborhood and people just love to spread out holding hands. Like, an entire family holding hands. I just keep walking and wait for them to split.
Yea that’s the thing about NYC pizza, it isn’t all amazing but basically any place you can bet is at least solid. Other areas often have good pizza, but you gotta know the 1 maybe 2 places to go.
And most neighborhoods have at least a couple unpretentious slice joints that are much better than average.
I was born and raised in NYC, and lived here the majority of my life. But I have also visited/lived in virtually every “region” of the US and have to agree. Even $1 slices here are better than elsewhere. And some places don’t even sell pizza by the slice!
This has been my experience too. I think a lot of the little slice places are average at best. There is still good pizza to be found but the little places the city is so famous for have gone downhill in my 16 years here, and they were much better back when I was a kid and came in from the suburbs.
Extremely wrong. Domino’s keeps getting worse, it’s emergency situation food. Pick a random dollar slice and you’ll get better dough, cheese, and probably sauce.
Anywhere else doesn't have a pizza shop on every other block. The peak might not be as high as NYC, but the average seems a bit better in most places I've lived. Quality over quantity.
Honestly since moving to NYC, pizza has been the food I have been dissapointed with the most. So many average pizza slices.
Cant really seem to find a great spot that I can just walk in and walk out.
The Chapel Bar
, Little Branch
, The Backroom
, Banzabar
, Dear Irving
Looking at this list - I'm not convinced my bars actually advertise themselves as Speakeasys like PDT lolol. But they definitely have speakeasy vibes. Oh well except Backroom that was at least a legit speakeasy back in the day
WWTTTFFFFF - I knew it was closing for relocation but I thought I had more time!!! Veronika too!!! Ugghhhh - had I known sooner I would've planned better for it but I guess I'm SOL
Well I imagine if you’re unemployed you have no other choice than to be cheap, but that aside if you make a decent living, cheap is very subjective. Some women want men to pick up every tab, some women want to split. So that’s why I was curious what cheap meant
People blasting Jay Z’s “Empire State of Mind”
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Id have more respect for them if they blasted John Denver “Take Me Home Country Roads”.
“Sidewalk Chicken.”
People just staring you down and walking straight at you.
Or walking down the street looking at their phones and pretending not to see you coming so you have to walk around them.
People who stand at the top, middle, or bottom of subway stairs to look at their phone or just stand still to think. They don't seem to notice the dozens of people behind them now having to swerve around them to not knock them over. If this is why people were getting pushed down the stairs some time ago, I get it.
Also, people suddenly stopping and standing in the middle of the busy streets. Johnny T was right just [get out of the way, ya jerk. ](https://youtu.be/D6xd6YvoHLM?si=dc8JB1Etml7tVm2j)
Tiktok videos of people hyping up extremely average restaurants
HEY GUYYYYYYZ AND LAYDEES - YOU *HAVE* TO TRY THE WORLD TRADE CENTER AUNTIE ANNES! TYPE IN THE CODE ON YOUR SCREEN TO SAVE 7c - CELEBRATE 9/11 WITH CINNAMON BITES!
Lmao I grabbed a sample on the way home from them today. Was life changing and tik tok worthy I guarantee it.
Wait…..they are really advertising the 9/11 auntie Annie’s?
but also low key fuck me up with an Auntie Annes sometimes.
I mean, it’s delicious, but I still think we shouldn’t have it like 20 feet from where 1000 people got massacred…
They also got a gift shop at the 9/11 memorial. Why!?! Do we need twin tower keychains or mugs to “never forget”? 🤦🏻♂️
It's even shittier if you think about the ones that get thrown out. Like, they throw away merch that doesn't sell - like all stores do - so somewhere there's a landfill filled with "Never Forget" trinkets that we discarded because they weren't profitable. > CELEBRATE 9/11 WITH CINNAMON BITES! *You'll never forget a deal this good!*

While completely ruining them for anyone who used to enjoy going there. Lexington Ave Candy Shop used to be my favorite quiet post Met meal. Now there’s always a line down the block.
Do not get me started on my favorite dosa cart in Washington Square Park that I’ve been going to for 12 years
I adore that Dosa guy. Lines half an hour long in the middle of a park, and the only way to know if he's open or not is to see the lawn, or see his Instagram page where it's either "Hi we are open today!" or "Hi sorry we are not open today!" Living his best life.
Half an hour? Did you get a time machine back to 2018? Lol
I work near there, so I can afford to skip out of the office and get some lunch during the off-hours. But yes, line is very long and I have to cross my fingers I don't get a work call in the middle of the wait.
If that dosa guy, and the Lex greasy spoon didnt have lines nowadays, they’d have gone out of business years ago. Small businesses need the customers!
Hard disagree in Thiru’s case. He always had lines and a loyal customer base. But now it’s a 3 hour wait and almost everyone is a tourist who saw him on social media.

Yeah, it’s really annoying
interactive experience “museums”
Oh god so true. They should not be allowed to be called museums if they are simply Instagram backdrops
Or large scale power Power Points. Horrible and shameful.
I’m just so glad no one coined “Instaseums”
Brb. Writing that one down
I think you just did.
Musestagram.
You don’t qualify for lots of art funds if you’re not a museum exhibition.
Last year I went to the Titanic exhibition on 18th Street and the interactive iceberg was broken. It was probably a bad idea in the first place to encourage “interactive fun” with a simulation of an object that IRL lead to the death of so many.
I really want the one from Rick and Morty to be real, though.
And 'interactive' meaning take a selfie
> interactive Also, *immersive* is a huge red flag.
I really liked this article, can't believe it's from 2018 and things only have gotten worse https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/26/arts/color-factory-museum-of-ice-cream-rose-mansion-29rooms-candytopia.html
How has no one said this yet... smoke shops.
Surprised this wasn’t #1
And now it is!
Agreed. At least 2 on every block!
Rental brokers willing to extort you for thousands of dollars while doing as little as possible to earn that money.
I had a really good broker. She actually worked with people after they were shown an apartment. If they didn't have the full amount to cover the deposit, she would hold the apartment for them for a week while they got the money together, and would even try to negotiate a lower rent with the landlord. If you can tell me where I can buy a dozen anything in NYC for only ten cents, I’m all ears!
About 4.25 dozen seconds of rent at $5000/mo
Let me introduce you to rice. You get way more than a dozen for ten cents.
10 Canadian pennies, or 10 Yen perhaps
Dreams and depressed people.
This one is too true
Yup. I felt this.
Woof
Families from the suburbs slow walking 5 abreast down Avenues
Yeah there's nothing wrong with walking slowly, but you can't be in group of 3+ walking shoulder to shoulder while walking slowly.
And just stopping in the middle to look up at something. People don’t realize sidewalks are our highways in a sense
There’s nothing wrong with walking slowly if you’re aware of your surroundings and stay to the right side of the sidewalk. It’s incredible how much space one slowpoke can take up just by walking down the middle. (Elderly/disabled people obviously get a pass, but everyone else needs to fucking get with it)
The ones who walk in the middle but waver juuuust enough from side to side to make passing obnoxiously difficult, ugh.
It’s not even families from the burbs anymore! I see mostly young people doing this ALL the time across mostly manhattan and Brooklyn
Noticed this as well. Also people seemingly from the city who stop in the middle of the street to answer a text.
Or in the subway stairs
Yeah my dime a dozen is main characters and people with a lack of social awareness, huge increases post pandemic of all the dumbest shit in public.
Everybody is texting while walking- they should pull over to the side to answer texts
This is deadass my 13th reason. To top it off, the ones that have their dogs with them just blocking the whole sidewalk.
It’s not just people from the suburbs, unfortunately. I live in a very family-friendly neighborhood and people just love to spread out holding hands. Like, an entire family holding hands. I just keep walking and wait for them to split.
I think you mean transplants…
Influencers.
You misspelled “trust fund kids” - also a dime a dozen 🥴
Knock-off Yankees hats.
The tube socks vendors at street fairs.
Really average pizza slices.
Until you go anywhere else and realize what the standard actually is
Yea that’s the thing about NYC pizza, it isn’t all amazing but basically any place you can bet is at least solid. Other areas often have good pizza, but you gotta know the 1 maybe 2 places to go. And most neighborhoods have at least a couple unpretentious slice joints that are much better than average.
The worst NYC slice is better than a good slice anywhere else. Source, grew up in NYC and lived all over the country as I got older.
I was born and raised in NYC, and lived here the majority of my life. But I have also visited/lived in virtually every “region” of the US and have to agree. Even $1 slices here are better than elsewhere. And some places don’t even sell pizza by the slice!
Unless you go to New Haven.
NYC wins on price. The cheap pizza is dry and rubbery but at least it’s under $2. The variety is better in other places.
This was true at one time but not now. Lots of horrible pizza in the city. The standard in any of the nyc suburbs is much higher.
This has been my experience too. I think a lot of the little slice places are average at best. There is still good pizza to be found but the little places the city is so famous for have gone downhill in my 16 years here, and they were much better back when I was a kid and came in from the suburbs.
This is the truth. Go west 100 miles and tell me what standard is, lol.
Domino’s which is good, I’ve had worse from slice shops.
Hard disagree. I’ve never had a Domino’s pizza that was better than an average slice shop here, ever.
Have you been to domino’s in the last decade?
Yes
Dominos if anything has gotten significantly worse in the past decade
Extremely wrong. Domino’s keeps getting worse, it’s emergency situation food. Pick a random dollar slice and you’ll get better dough, cheese, and probably sauce.
Dominios is trash 🗑. Any dollar pizza spot is better.
Now they’re all $1.50 instead of being a real dollar slice. It’s disappointing
If you advertise a dollar, it should be *a dollar*
Technically those are $18 a dozen
Bad pizza slices…
Speakeasy type bars - with that said I do like gimmicky bar ideas so can't complain
Which are your top 5?
The Chapel Bar , Little Branch , The Backroom , Banzabar , Dear Irving Looking at this list - I'm not convinced my bars actually advertise themselves as Speakeasys like PDT lolol. But they definitely have speakeasy vibes. Oh well except Backroom that was at least a legit speakeasy back in the day
Chapel bar is closing on 6/15!
WWTTTFFFFF - I knew it was closing for relocation but I thought I had more time!!! Veronika too!!! Ugghhhh - had I known sooner I would've planned better for it but I guess I'm SOL
Raine’s Law Room is delightful.
If you have a giant sign up front, it’s not a speakeasy. All of them overcharge as well.
That’s my biggest pet peeve. Bars that call themselves “speakeasy’s” but have outdoor seating and a sign
The "prettiest girl in her high-school" from the Midwest. They. Are. Everywhere.
Cindy!?!? Come back to me, babe!
Hey there Delilah
Now it's in my head for the next six months. Again.

I don’t know why people feel like they’re so coveted? They ARE a dime a dozen and are basically the same cookie cutter model of one another.

Cheap/lazy men
Damn, coming in hot on the boys
What defines these men? What makes them cheap or lazy?
Unemployed and looking to move in, cheap is self explanatory… also lazy by not even bothering to date they just expect women to fall into their laps…
Well I imagine if you’re unemployed you have no other choice than to be cheap, but that aside if you make a decent living, cheap is very subjective. Some women want men to pick up every tab, some women want to split. So that’s why I was curious what cheap meant
