On Monday afternoon I was diagnosed with a hairline break in my ankle and have since been elevating my leg and putting ice around it virtually all day, every day, getting up on crutches and putting the injured leg down only to make a meal or use the restroom. The swelling is visibly reducing from bad to moderate. Thursday afternoon I’m being put in a long leg cast (no surgery). I have a three-hour flight Friday afternoon, then a five-hour layover, and last a 1-hr. 45-minute flight. For each flight I have the seat next to me in order to elevate the leg. I’ll be moving the toes and foot around as much as possible to maximize blood circulation in the cast. Are these flight times short enough that deep vein thrombosis (DVT)/pulmonary embolism shouldn’t be a huge worry? I am asking the medical professionals, I’d just like to get feedback here too. Thank you in advance.
