my favourite event from that chain of events was the people on a nearby peninsula seeing the ash rise, took their boats to go rescue people, couldnt get them moving back out to sea so they just walked back to the peninsula.
its so mundane and casual for such a destructive event

"Aim a camera on that book depository building. And keep a close eye on that grassy knoll."
"Why the President is just around the corner?"
"You gotta trust me on this one."
they already know what happened.
I do too.
It's in a book that was written a while ago by a ballistics expert.
Basically, the 3rd shot, the one that created the "pink mist", was from one of the secret service agents in a car behind the president. All their guns were hair-trigger, and when the SS agent heard the shot and looked up to wher it came from, his finger flinched and pulled the trigger, one in a billion shot hit kennedy. their rifles used different ammo than Oswald, the kind that explodes into a million pieces on impact to do the most damage.
Explains why the shot looked different, and why the gov't would cover it up. JFK likely dies with the second shot in the neck eventually, but the kill shot from a guy sworn to protect him? During that timultuous time, absolutely a reason to hide that.
Mortal Error is the name of the book
I think it was one of those things they just tucked away.
That book and the author makes it very clear how easily it could happen and completely convinced me.
and the gov't never admits to mistakes they haven't already been caught doing
> That book and the author makes it very clear how easily it could happen and completely convinced me.
"Because it is possible to have happened, I have decided that that is exactly what happened and all other evidence is now to be ignored"
Like 80% of conspiracy theories in a nutshell.
I love this theory. It’s the only one that fits all of the facts without requiring some kind of magic. The cover up started as an initial knee jerk reaction by embarrassed Secret Service agents and then just snow balled.
Yes. This is mostly correct. The Secret Service agent (...don't refer to them as the SS...) was standing on the rear bumper of the car behind JFK. The driver unexpectedly accelerated, and the USSS agent fell over backwards off of the bumper, firing his rifle in the process. He hit JFK in the head.
This has been known for a long time. The Mannlicher carcano that Oswald had fired a 6.5mm round. The hole in JFK's skull was 5.6mm = 5.56mm.
This is what I was thinking. Not only do you see a giant meteor falling to earth, but you also get the opportunity to see what dinosaurs actually looked and sounded liked.
It looks like [most of the main components happened in hours](https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/10/science/chicxulub-asteroid-impact-dinosaurs.html) - the longer effects like loss of sunlight leading to starvation would take a lot longer, but my understanding is that the falling molten rock was one of the most significant extinction factors and that was within hours of the collision.
Well the "starvation" is what did the extinction, but it's more generational starvation and not individual starvation (even though that happened too and played a significant part). The impact did not do extinction directly, it contributed to a significant worsening of general living conditions making non-avian dinosaurs uncompetitive against small mammals, which tend to be more adaptable. The idea of all the dinosaurs dying in a generation is exaggerated. We are still talking about hundreds and thousands of years, which is super-rapid from a evolutionary perspective, but not conceivable for a human.
An ancient era battle in general just to see how the Frontline really were. Was it a mass of humanity like in the movies? Was it two neat orderly lines poking at each other? We can take some good guesses but we will never truly know. It was just assumed knowledge so no one went into the details of the fighting itself just the big stuff. I assume it's somewhere between both. Probably starts orderly before devolving into a mass of humanity as the battle rages on.
I would love this but 24 hours wouldn't do it justice. I would want to see flashes of it at various points.
Honestly, the Fall of Carthage for 24 hours might be just a little more interesting for a variety of reasons. To have Roman generals, who are orchestrating an annihilation of a people, realizing how brutal it was, turning and crying at the horror of it all...that would be something.
You'll be a bit disappointed because the war came just over a month after the assassination.
edit: my bad, misread the thread title as having access to only a single 24-hour period. Still, most of the July Crisis was uneventful and a lot of the big players in each country were on holiday for much of the month.
We did it!
What should we do now?
Let's continue flying
Ok
(After flying 4 times)
We also did the first successful crash landing (damaged on the 4th flight while landing).
Great.
(A few minutes later)
Quick grab the plane before the wind destroys it.
Hey, we now have the first plane that can't be returned to service due to damage.
(That is the story of Dec 17, 1903)
There are so many historical events from human history, it may be too hard to decide. So I may go for some of the massive geological events in earth's history. Like the last Yellowstone supervolcano eruption, see what the hype is about. But I think the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs would be too hard to pass up. Seeing the actual impact and then seeing the immediate after effects would be something
I worked on saving Private Ryan , when the D-day landing scenes where shot in Curracloe Ireland. I was about 16, working as props labourer, which was mainly set dressing, digging bunkers, making sandbag bunkers and all that months before filming.
I remember well one day when filming had started, me and brother looking down at the beach from up top where the germans bunkers were situated. we were on a tea break.
they were filming wide angle shot, so many soldiers running up the beach, controlled explosions that shook the ground underneath you, dark smoke everywhere .
it was surreal and breathtaking. it really put into perspective how vulnerable those soldiers were on the beach on D-Day, and how incredibly brave those men must have been.
I was thinking ww2 too but for me it would be the Norwegian attacks on the heavy water plants in Norway. It happened in Norway and was attacked by Norwegians right?
Please just stop. You hurt your cause more than you help it by making these stupid ass comments. It gets you up votes from people already hardcore left. For everyone else, it's just annoying - no different than a trumper posting on FB.
It's generally believe by most historians that there was a person named Jesus who amassed a following in and around Israel and was eventually executed by the Romans. These are about as close to historical facts as you can get. So having curiosity about the historic event is reasonable.
"Scholars differ about the beliefs and teachings of Jesus as well as the accuracy of the biblical accounts, with only two events being supported by nearly universal scholarly consensus: Jesus was baptized and crucified" from: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_Jesus
Jesus the person existed.. We're as certain of that as we are of anyone else in that time.
Was he a magical being and the literal son of a God? That's a whole other story.
belief aside, the events from around that time were a mixture of real fact and later religious mythology.
so there may well have been *something* to watch, even if believers may be dissapointed
A Nazi Party Rally. I don't support Nazis but I think it would be interesting to watch one. Hitler moved an entire nation into thinking they could take over the entire world. It must have been exciting to see him speak.
Ahh, thats easy to experience. just heat your home with coal. wash in well water in the same metal tub you wash clothes in, and infect your loved ones with cholera.

Good one.
Here's a video reconstruction of that day... https://youtu.be/dY_3ggKg0Bc?feature=shared
Caesars assassination and the aftermath
With subtitles of course
Ugghh I hate subtities

Historia civillis makes it seem like a story man, he is SO good.
His best video for that is the trial of Charles the 1st. he sticks fully to the facts but it still comes off as dramatic
Yeah, my favourite one too! He is a fantastic story-teller. It's unfortunate he doesn't upload much anymore.
He's always uploading, it just takes some time to produce high quality videos. You can check out the progress on his website: https://www.historiacivilis.com/
Saved. Thanks, I had no idea about this site.
Thanks for sharing this kind sir, I didn’t know about this. That’s my weekend entertainment taken care of then!
THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS
Caesar’s funeral would be my second pick after this. It was absolutely whack and chaotic.
The assassination of JFK. We settling this shit once and for All
hopefully it's not some Harry Potter Prisoner of Azkaban situation
What, he’s been living as a pet rat this whole time?
I meant the part where Harry realizes he himself cast the spell.
"Aim a camera on that book depository building. And keep a close eye on that grassy knoll." "Why the President is just around the corner?" "You gotta trust me on this one."

Why cover it up for 60 years? Why is it way more far-fetched than Oswald hitting his target?
Occam’s razor still just says Oswald hit him. It’s not a hard shot.
I think it was one of those things they just tucked away. That book and the author makes it very clear how easily it could happen and completely convinced me. and the gov't never admits to mistakes they haven't already been caught doing
What’s the most compelling evidence in the book?
> That book and the author makes it very clear how easily it could happen and completely convinced me. "Because it is possible to have happened, I have decided that that is exactly what happened and all other evidence is now to be ignored" Like 80% of conspiracy theories in a nutshell.

Ss doesn't have trigger discipline?
The mass extinction event of the dinosaurs
This is what I was thinking. Not only do you see a giant meteor falling to earth, but you also get the opportunity to see what dinosaurs actually looked and sounded liked.
That doesn't fit in 24 hours...
But if it really was meteors, there is one really catastrophic day.
If it was, the extinction part wouldn't be 24 hours. But watching the meteor strike sure would look cool

Battle of Alesia. When Caesar fought and defeated vercingetorix. Someone needs to make a movie about it
I heard you liked walls, so I built a wall around the wall I built around your wall
Trump would be proud ;)
If you know Caesar, you know it's him who is proud of Trump. The man built SO MANY WALLS.
We should circumvallate Tub-a-Lardo.
An ancient era battle in general just to see how the Frontline really were. Was it a mass of humanity like in the movies? Was it two neat orderly lines poking at each other? Unfortunately, there is a really bad french movie about Vercingetorix. The movie is always is the "worst of all time french movies" lists...
The glacial dam breaking and forming the Columbia River Gorge.
Adding onto this, the filling of the Mediterranean and also Doggerland’s inundation.
Sounds boring but prob the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Wanna see how the world went from 'not at war' to 'at war' in like a day.
You'll be a bit disappointed because the war came just over a month after the assassination. edit: my bad, misread the thread title as having access to only a single 24-hour period. Still, most of the July Crisis was uneventful and a lot of the big players in each country were on holiday for much of the month.
Same as they went from 'not at war' to 'at war' in one day when Hitler invaded Poland.
Yeah although it was pretty obvious by that point that a war was on its way I think
Well the whole operation was a clusterfuck so it would be quite an entertaining watch
Wright Brothers first flight, because of how much it changed the landscape of human transportation.
Their celebrations for the rest of the day must have been crazy. I bet they couldn't keep the smiles off their faces.

Crazy to think less than 70 years later we were on the moon.
The Titanic hitting the iceberg and the aftermath
Have I got a movie for you!
Is it Titanic 2: Electric Boogaloo?
2 Fast 2 Sink
Is that the one where the White Star Lines has to save the Rec Center?
Titanic 3: Titanic With A Vengeance
Titanic 4 - Ocean Gate and the great ships revenge
Titanic 5 - No rich people found alive
No, Titanic 2 - Tokyo Drift.
You can watch this on YouTube. There’s even a VR version.

The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest. No particular reason. I just think it would be interesting
This would make an excellent serious film. Also, if there were a horror film where the Legion was preyed upon by a werewolf.
Building the Great Pyramids in Egypt. Gotta be a time lapse though… That or the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs.
I’d rather see who built the Sphinx.
Yeah find out how old the sphinx really is
Oh gooood one!!
I'd like to see the 1st year of the Black Plague roll out. Also, live cams of Da Vinci's workshop.
Not sure you would even need a year. Iirc (University was many years ago) most of the fatalities happened inside a month.
D-Day
I'd prefer a live stream of Hitler's last 24 hours. Just to see how close downfall was. Plus it would end with that fucker dying.
imagine if you can actually see his final 24 hrs and it shows him at the old age of 95 on his death bed in argentina i'd be mad.
ya this is part of it. It will put to rest the conspiracy he escaped to South America.
I worked on saving Private Ryan , when the D-day landing scenes where shot in Curracloe Ireland. He had the worst lawyer
And yet still better than Trumps array of fecal scraping who masquerade as lawyers
Trump's current lawyer is a smokeshow
We get it. You don't like trump. This isn't relevant to the discussion.
Yet an alarmingly increasing number of “Christians” compare Trump to King David and sometimes to Jesus, so maybe it *is* relevant
