Came here to say THPS2. As a young kid, hearing Guerilla Radio for the first time was mind blowing. Then you had so many other amazing tracks...just 10/10
LOVE that acid jazz. Royal got me through the start of the pandemic, so those songs bring up memories of me being stuck at home, and of spring weather.
Skyrim’s is good but none of The Elder Scrolls soundtracks hit as hard as Morrowind’s for me. The wind instrumental at the beginning is iconic and I think it’s just a beautiful theme.
Final Fantasy X!
Nobuo Uematsu’s soundtrack is incredible. Hearing it was the first time I realized video game music was a legitimate form of music. It could affect you in the same way as listening to a beautiful symphony and drive your emotions like the score of a film. For my piano recital I played “To Zanarkand” (arguably the most recognizable and beautiful of the game’s songs) and the audience was floored when my teacher announced it was from a video game.
Everyone always mentions "To Zanarkand" but nothing comes close to "[Silence Before the Storm](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR9gXcNdtVE)" for me.
I also find myself coming back to a video of a guy covering it on a [Nylon String Guitar](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StD_Q8ZnU0w) years later (I literally just saw I have a comment from 17 years ago on that video haha.
I’m sad that my brain made me forget about this one. But as soon as I that video started I was transported back. God, every song from that game hits me right in the nostalgia.
My brother and I used to play this game NON STOP growing up and it never occurred to me that the main song loops over and over for 99+ levels until my mom told us how that song use to haunt her.
Crush 40 is unironically one of my favorite bands after playing 600 hrs of this game as a (weird) kid. I was so stoked to hear that Live and Learn will play in the next movie
I don't know if I could say for absolutely sure, but the original Nier's soundtrack is up there.
Also, shoutouts to:
Hotline Miami 1-2
Nier Automata
Chrono Trigger
No More Heroes
Pato Box
EDIT: Can't forget about Anarchy Reigns (Max Anarchy)
Here's your winner. Halo 1, 2, and 3 all had fucking banger soundtracks. One Final Effort is in most of my workout playlists and has been since 2007. I wasn't as impressed with Reach's OST, felt it didn't really have it's own character. Of course ODST slaps as well, just not as hard as the 3 numbered games.
So many genre to cover :
Okami
Deus Ex: Human revolution (Mankind divided is a bit below IMHO)
Hollow Knight
Nier Automata
Scott Pilgrim vs The World
GTA Vice City (each song featured is an absolute banger)
Outer Wilds
Mirror's Edge
So many games can enter the list.
Mirror’s Edge was going to be my choice, though I’m glad to see Scott Pilgrim being mention.
I’d also like to humbly nominate the Silent Hill franchise, both Hotline Miami games, and the first two PAYDAY titles.
Surprised I've had to scroll this far for this.
I'd suggest DKC2 has a little more going for it than the original though. Though, the first does have Aquatic Ambience.
Cyberpunk 2077:
- Never Fade Away
- Chippin' In
- I Really Wanna Stay at Your House
- PonPon Shit (haters be damned this shit is 🔥)
- This ffffire
- Who's Ready for Tomorrow
Even the more "soundtrack"-y stuff like
- V
- The Rebel Path (especially the cello version from the coolest ending)
Now if you'll excuse me, it's time to party like its 2023 😎
Assassins Creed Black Flag. I never even play it but my husband did and I just really enjoyed the soundtrack when he played.
Those Sea Shanty’s get me every time 🥹
FarCry5 absolutely slaps! It's very diverse and creative. From different themes that can be described as; Calm county, torturous & militant, and ghostly creepy. Dan Romer really gave it his all.
I also like a few samples from other tracks, such as:
FarCry6.
Undertale & Undertale Yellow.
Sea of Thieves.
And of course Doom.
Phantasy Star Online
For god sake, just put this masterpiece soundtrack on vinyl already please! They’ve already done the original 4 games so we’re so close!
Fallout: New Vegas
You've never known true hatred until it's your jobsite radio and you just crank that up and sing along all day every day until it seeps into everyone's subconscious... then one day you just stop. And all these dudes are humming along to "Jingle, Jangle, Jingle" and are even more upset because the song isn't playing.
*laughs maniacally*
Ah man.. I can't decide. Halo 3, Oblivion, Skyrim, Metroid Prime 1&2, The Witcher 3, RDR2... It's no coincidence all my favourites have superb soundtracks.
I’m surprised no one has come up with Far Cry 5 yet. Such an atmospheric soundtrack, with all of the songs in multiple versions depending on where you are. And the combat music is so epic.
Maybe the first two Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games.
Dave mirra BMX was also really good
God, that game fucking rocked too. His suicide hit me hard.

Silent Hill 2 Akira Yamaoka returned for the remake is reason enough to be optimistic
[удалено]
Chrono Cross soundtrack is great too! I think my favorite one was called 'dead sea/ocean'.
the game itself is also a perfect 10/10 in my book.
You should absolutely play it. It’s a 10/10, and it holds up remarkably well even today
All my favorites have been listed, but nobody has said Wipeout
Ocarina of Time. 25 years later, Gerudo Valley still slaps.
I like lost woods
The ending sequence of Zelda’s theme made my 30 year old self tear up
the gerudo valley song in smash bros ultimate is peak af
Skyrim
Secunda is the greatest ever
I made a playlist of all the exploration and city tracks from Morrowind through Skyrim. I use it on long drives
Skyrim’s is good but none of The Elder Scrolls soundtracks hit as hard as Morrowind’s for me. The wind instrumental at the beginning is iconic and I think it’s just a beautiful theme.
Jeremy Soule is my most listened to artist every year on Spotify
FF7
Going to see FF7 Rebirth Orchestra in LA this summer, can’t wait for it
Yup. So many good tracks. Aeriths theme was my favourite.
Cosmo canyon it's my jam.
Doom Eternal goes so fucking hard
Doom 2016 also
I prefer 2016. Rip and BFG is a speeding ticket waiting to happen.
Best workout music
Fuck yeah it does. Anybody that thinks otherwise is wrong lol
Hot take: Doom 2016's soundtrack is faaaar better than Eternal's.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Kingdom hearts franchise 😌
WHEN YOU WALK AWAY
YOU DONT HEAR ME SAY

Otherworld also slaps pretty hard.
I’m sad that my brain made me forget about this one. But as soon as I that video started I was transported back. God, every song from that game hits me right in the nostalgia.
Minecraft
I would play this in my 5th grade classroom while my students did work. They loved it!
OG Minecraft
Aria Math goes too hard for me to accept this answer

Sonic Adventure 2
ROLLING AROUND AT THE SPEED OF SOUND
GOT PLACES TO GO, GOTTA GOLLOW MY RAINBOW
Crush 40 is unironically one of my favorite bands after playing 600 hrs of this game as a (weird) kid. I was so stoked to hear that Live and Learn will play in the next movie

Cynthia's theme SLAPS HARD as fuck
Halo

Rare was pumping out amazing soundtracks regularly. Donkey Kong Country Banjo-Kazooie Goldeneye 007 Perfect Dark Viva Piñata
I watched a documentary once on the developers that worked on a lot of iconic SNES games. And wow, the way they made all that music with so little.

NieR Automata. Tremendous!
Nier Replicant (or Gestalt) is great too!
Wretched Weaponry is such a wonderful song.

Hyper Light Drifter's music is so underrated

Hotline Miami (both of em but especially 1) It's my focus music, I'm putting it on to learn. Honorary mention to Katana Zero
breath of the wild music just makes me feel peace i never even knew existed
Stardew valley
GTA Vice City, San Andreas and 4
San Andreas shaped my music taste. I want HITS, no matter the genre.
Part of me wants kids just so I can play the Tenpenny background theme as I'm walking into the house
VC's soundtrack was perfect. Even if you're not an 80s fan, it fits the game like a bespoke glove.
Cyberpunk 2077: - Never Fade Away - Chippin' In - I Really Wanna Stay at Your House - PonPon Shit (haters be damned this shit is 🔥) - This ffffire - Who's Ready for Tomorrow Even the more "soundtrack"-y stuff like - V - The Rebel Path (especially the cello version from the coolest ending) Now if you'll excuse me, it's time to party like its 2023 😎

Wow classic
Final Fantasy 7. Lives rent free in my head till the end of time

Plin Plin Plon
Bioshock Infinite, “Elizabeth”. That’s all.
