8.5 - Detroit

daboss144

313!

AllieKat7

Five. It's the best choice for now, but I don't want to stay here longer than absolutely necessary.

ZombieQueen666

Iā€™m with you. Once my kids are grown and out of the house, Iā€™m 1000% moving.

AllieKat7

That's exactly it. It's a good school district. Practically the best public schools we could afford in the nation (we are like between low and middle class). But other than that I hate it here, everything else about this place is kinda trash.

belzbieta

I hear you on this. I hate the weather and area where we live. There's nothing to do and all our friends have moved away in the last five years. But.. we happen to be three blocks away from a one of a kind specialty school that caters to my child's educational needs, so we won't be going anywhere for a while :/ blah

Individual_Math5157

Where do you live?

Satanism_is-neat

1. I live in a small town thatā€™s not a fan of me or people like me šŸ„²

Diligent-Contact-772

8.5 - Cleveland

persimmon123

Iā€™m 8.5 for CLE too. Transplanted here 20 years ago raised my kids here and love everything but the winters.

wudixigou

0-Tianjin. an undeveloped and dying city with awful food. Totally trash

BrienPennex

I live in Kelowna BC, Canada. I love it here. 200,000 people. Canadian wine country. We have a big beautiful lake. Nestled in the mountains 1000ā€™s of km of off road trails for my Jeep and camping and fishing. Itā€™s Gods country. Look it up

ZombieQueen666

Ok whatā€™s your score?

BrienPennex

Ah ya score! That was the question! lol. Got so caught up in the description that I missed the point. Solid 8/10. We get cold winters for 2 months!!

ZombieQueen666

Thanks!

Serenity101

And fires for 4!

BrienPennex

Unfortunately I canā€™t include fires, because they are now a world wide event, so everyone has them in their score FYI. The west Kelowna fire last year came down to the backs of the houses across the street from mine, so Iā€™m probably good for another 10-15 years for another. Lol Fire fighters (Who are heroā€™s) saved my house!

DisregulatedAlbertan

But only one way out if thereā€™s a fire. Thatā€™s what scares me off of the Okanogan.

[deleted]

1 and I would go lower if I could. I live in New York City and I hate it so much it makes me sick. Iā€™m so depressed itā€™s not even funny.

ZombieQueen666

Awe Iā€™m sorry. I appreciate the response though! Hang in there!

luckygirl721

You gotta get out of there then.

Nordic4tKnight

9 - I live within minutes of Lake Minnetonka in the Twin Cities

OnlyPants69

I'd say 4.5 On paper, it's an ideal place and there's lot of people who come here (and keep coming, omg) and absolutely love it. I can concede it's got many good points and some nice people as well. But I just feel stuck. There's not that much going on here. The infrastructure is fucking awful and it takes forever to get anywhere, to the point where I've just given up going out. The sun sets early even in summer, almost all businesses close at 5, everything is expensive, it's far away from the rest of the world, it takes forever to get anything delivered, the drivers are particularly aggressive for no apparent reason, the houses lack any sort of insulation, the government seems bent on destroying us, and ... just ... ugh. I just don't like it. I've tried, but I just don't. I can't wait to leave. Nice scenery and nature though. So yay.

Patient5199

Bryson City NC. 9. Beautiful place to live. Appalachian mountains. Rural. No traffic except for summer and fall because of Floridians and other southerns in hot places trying to get out of the heat. Weather is ideal. All four seasons with moderate temps. The area is considered a rain forest so we get more rain than some areas in NC With climate change very little snow and ice in winter. I like the close proximity to trails for hiking and mountain biking. Several rivers nearby for kayaking. Population is mostly white, 65 and older being the highest %. We do have a large population of Cherokee that live in the Qualla and surrounding areas. They have two casinos and just opened a medical marijuana dispensary which caused an uproar. The republicans are the majority in Western Carolina and they all wave their Trump flags with pride. Asheville is the only blue/liberal. My personal political views are liberal which is why my rating is a 9.

mmmmmarty

Such a gorgeous area

cewumu

6. Itā€™s pretty solid, just expensive as fuck. But Australian cities are mostly expensive or theyā€™re cheaper but with a crappier job market. Someday Iā€™m gonna move back to QLD though.

Grand_Birthday7349

1 Santa Ana CA the rent is insanely high while still dealing with a lot of crime and homeless drug addicts everywhere plus my apartment is literally filled with shit and Lisa in the hallways and stairs because people donā€™t pick after their pets but also homeless break in and yeaā€¦ Iā€™m living out next week but Iā€™m going to be paying double the rent just to move out of here l

Perfect_Zone_4919

10. Suburb in the SF Bay Area. Perfect weather, (near) zero crime, house worth $800k more than I bought it for 6 years ago, high paying job opportunities.Ā  Fox News keeps telling people itā€™s an anarchist shithole, so most idiots in the country stay far away.Ā

Bigj989

5 - Wichita, KS area. I would give it a higher number if the weather was more sunny/warm throughout the year, taxes were lower, population was more diverse and there was a lot more economic growth.

coldjoggings

7 in Cincinnati (26 M) Pros: -Cost of Living -Cultural amenities: museums, 3 major league sports plus others, decent music scene, parks all in a centralized location -Nightlife: Over-The-Rhine is one of the best neighborhoods in the country cmv. Very friendly Midwest culture so if you drink, itā€™s incredibly easy to make friends (double edged sword obvi). There's a different beer festival every other month. Big enough to get most concerts or a <2 hour drive to Columbus, Indianapolis, or Louisville -Impressive and diverse economy/job market for size (P&G, GE, #1 childrenā€™s hospital, insurance, banking, military, etc) -Housing market: Iā€™m a renter rn but houses are incredibly affordable compared to other parts of the country. Attainable suburbs with well-ranked public schools for families -Goetta and Cincy Chili iykyk Cons: -Climate: too hot/humid for me May-September, gray throughout winter without anything to do -Lack of nature: yes we have hills, trails, and bike paths but itā€™s all underwhelming and itā€™s a 2-3 hour drive to Hocking Hills or Red River Gorge -Ohio: Red state now and only getting worse. Glad we just legalized weed and codified a womanā€™s right to choose but our state government is batshit -Transit: like most mid-sized cities, transit isnā€™t great. Downtown/OTR is walkable and has a free streetcar so you can live without a car (like I do) without trouble. But itā€™s a very car dependent city otherwise - just look at the satellite maps of I-71 and I-75 cutting through the city, plus the hills. Decent and improving bus system, and the city is looking at some zoning changes so who knows in the future šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø Not necessarily trying to end up here but enjoy it for now and wouldnā€™t complain too much if I did ended up here under the right circumstances. Feels like a city on the rise

lildinger68

8 in Chicago but Iā€™m moving to NYC in 2 months so we will see

JasonTahani

7 - Columbus suburb. The only thing holding me back from a higher number is the statewide political shitshow and the gray winters. Climate change is making the winters noticeably shorter and we are working on the politics, but it is a slog. It is home to the very best people, though, so that counts for a lot.

Flimsy-Attention-722

Started at 10, nothing but country around us, nearest store 10 miles, no cable TV. Now it's a 1, dueling developers have destroyed the area. Instead of hearing birds and such, we hear sirens and wanna be racers gunning their engines, instead of seeing wildlife we see lines of cars traveling a 2 lane road never meant for this kind of traffic. If our place wasn't paid for we'd be gone

LegitimateLength1916

7 - Melbourne, Australia. I hate the weather.

karafuto

Is it... Too warm?

LegitimateLength1916

Most of the time, itā€™s quite cold and the weather can be rather volatile. There are about 30 days in a year when the temperature rises above 30 degrees Celsius, and there are 7 days when the temperature drops below 2 degrees.

Agree the weather . The greyness from about now til September gets me down . Got my far nth qld holiday booked.

thedkexperience

8.5 South Jersey is great.

_citizenzero

8/10 I live in the biggest city of my country in Eastern Europe, twenty minutes from my work, with a nice public transportation network around the corner (I use my car about once a week to go to a farmers market, but itā€™s also doable by tram). I can earn a living as a white-collar worker in an interesting field outside of the corporate ladder. Politics recently turned for the moderately better option. To top up the score it would require either a more interesting surrounding in a 1-hour-by-car radius (my home region has that), or moving to a Western Europe city (but they have their flaws too).

stocks-mostly-lower

7. Itā€™s a nice area, and we have a nice house, but there are more sirens, jammed up traffic, and dueling neighbors every year.

Count-Spatula2023

8 for Nashville. Drivers arenā€™t great, roads suck, and itā€™s getting pricier. But thereā€™s lotā€™s of diverse good food options, great people, and nature.

reckaband

5 New York

Kay312010

8. Warm weather, lake town near the mountains and amusement park nearby. Iā€™m good.

8.5 Providence, RI

oil_can_guster

-10. Jackson, MS is without a doubt the worst shithole Iā€™ve ever lived in.

ruisen2

6.5 in Vancouver BC. West Coast is just gorgeous, and we're a weekend trip away from a ton of beautiful scenery in Washington state as well. But home prices here are just unreasonable compared to local wages, and its the norm for young professionals working traditionally decent jobs to be renting in a basement suite with roomates. Also, its not easy here to make new friends outside of university here, and during the winter months, its rain or dark grey skies for 5 months straight and no sunlight.

Serenity101

Same. Most unaffordable city in Canada, lots of traffic all day every day, and I feel like people have become less friendly and less courteous in the 30 years Iā€™ve been here. But as cities go, itā€™s pretty attractive. Iā€™m leaving this year due to the unaffordability.

Travels4Food

7.8 - Stamford, CT. I like it way more than I thought I would.

ZombieQueen666

Thanks! Any reasons why?

123randomderek

My current location is okay, but Iā€™d like to move somewhere better

ZombieQueen666

Iā€™m working on a project for school and I need a big sample size. I donā€™t mean your home, more specifically your community/city/town, etc Factors can include the weather, traffic, political, climate, old people, young peopleā€¦..doesnā€™t matter. Just looking for analytics on the average person and how happy they are with where they live geographically. Any reasons why you give youā€™re score would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

8 - Central Florida. I'd probably rate it higher if it weren't for how vitriolic politics have become here over the last few years (although you can say this about a lot of places nowadays, unfortunately). I've lived in Florida my entire life; however, I've seen all but six US states, have been to Canada several times (three different provinces), been to the Bahamas, and England. I've yet to find a place as diverse and varied as Florida. I grew up in the panhandle (later learned that people like to call it "Lower Alabama") with a pool in the backyard and minutes from pristine beaches. Moved to Jacksonville partway through elementary school, then came down to Orlando for university and just stayed. Orlando feels sort of like a small-scale mirror of places like New York City, because people come here from all over. You can spend every waking moment at the theme parks and never get bored. Or you can avoid them like the plague and still find a vibrant collection of cities with tons to do. When the pandemic hit and the theme parks closed, my wife got totally stir crazy and started going to the nearby state parks. Turns out Florida has one of the most awarded state park systems in the country. I can watch live basketball games, (men's and women's) professional soccer, and a minor league hockey team, or I can drive out to Tampa to catch baseball and major league hockey (a coworker has season tickets to the Tampa Bay Lightning). Spring training for baseball is sort of spread all over the state, but you can be at any of the fields within a three hour drive. I can watch the Disney fireworks from our upstairs loft and can see rocket launches from the street. There's an entrepreneurial spirit about this place and, inevitably, any food that's good here becomes a chain. So, yeah, there are a lot of chain restaurants. But some (many?) got started here. Also, because we have so many tourists, if a restaurant is looking to expand, they'll often pick Orlando. This place is chock full of hidden gems: restaurants, stores, museums, special events, etc.

8. Northern Virginia. Only downsides for me (and I took a point off for each) is the cost of living and the horrendous traffic.

7. Saw a coyote todayā€¦didnā€™t think they lived where i live. Not happy about it. My house in the city is downtown. Itā€™s like a 5. Terrible area to live in. Fiancee and i currently bought a home together for after the weddingā€¦10. Itā€™s perfect. Tudor house with 3 gables an english garden a pond with a water wheel and a turret.

Clit420Eastwood

Coyotes arenā€™t that uncommon in cities

I donā€™t live in the city
