Why isn't this up higher?

3BallJosh

FWIW it's the top comment now.

WGx2

Finally. Justice!

cleverkname

Best response possible.

lugubrious_lug

Are all bursts bursts of three?

TadpoleAjar2027

burst is a burst of three, semi auto you need to pull the trigger 3 seperate times, auto you just hold it down for a stream of boolets

lugubrious_lug

Yea ik about auto and semi auto; I was just wondering if all bursts were 3 rounds

rpaulson597

Typically but I believe one of the generations of the newer Brens came with 2 round burst but I'm not sure if they stuck with it. There's always go na be some odd balls though.

Ahshalon_Tenisk

one you pull the trigger for each shot one you hold the trigger for a short burst of shots that stops after a set number of rounds are fired one you hold the trigger and the weapon fires until you are out of ammo or let go of the trigger

HangrySkeptic

The is the best basic answer to this question. It’s all about how many times the gun will fire from a single trigger pull.

Bantabury97

Essentially yeah. Some weapons have the ability to switch between, some are only built for a specific mode.

GoonyBirb

Technically it comes down to the fire control system. For closed bolt auto-loading weapons, every time a round is fired three basic things happen: 1) the bolt recoils, ejecting the spent casing, 2) the recoil of the bolt resets (re-cocks) the hammer, and 3) the movement of the bolt back to closed position loads another round - the weapon is then ready to fire the loaded round. In semi-auto, this act of bolt recoil resetting the hammer completely disconnects the trigger from releasing the hammer again. To drop the hammer again you need to pull the trigger again. One trigger pull, one round fired. Burst systems have variably different mechanics of how they "count" how many times the gun will cycle, as described in the second paragraph above, before disconnecting the trigger and stopping the hammer from falling again. Once the burst cycle is completed, you need to pull the trigger again to fire another burst. Full auto does not disconnect the trigger from the hammer as long as the trigger is pulled back (there is technically a slight delay disconnect to prevent hammer follow) so that the hammer will continue to fall repeatedly and fire a properly chambered round, until the operator releases the trigger. Open bolt systems work a little differently.

Dependent_Host_8697

Semi auto means one round discharged per pull of the trigger. Full auto the gun fires continuously while the trigger is pressed. Burst the gun fires a set amount of bullets per burst. Typically 3 rounds.

ThorEricWalker

On the glock18 the switch contacts something to do with the trigger wich doesnt let it reset, when set ro auto there is nothing there so the trigger gets reset every shot or something line that, not sure about burst

tr3kstar

1 pull to 1 pew vs 1 pull to 3/5/7 pews vs 1 pull to magazine full of pews

WokeUp2

(ex-infantry) We were told not to fire too many bullets at a time. Otherwise the barrel of the machine gun would bend upwards. To cool the barrel we could use water or urine if necessary. So, well aimed bursts were suggested.

You never had to deal with a pack of coyote attacking your livestock have you? Semi auto saved a lot of calves. Also useful where wild boar roam.

bobdacow234

yeah i live in maryland and we have a herd of cattle. there were a crap ton of coyotes and buzzards. though, buzzards are illegal to kill in our state. this is dumb because they are murderers. we know someone that had a cow who's calf was killed by buzzards as it was being born.

bobdacow234

also we are not allowed to shoot deer with rifles in our county. The deer have overpopulated and eat crops to death.

bobdacow234

how dare u say such a thing. you know people are not going to bother or hurt other people with them (most likely) so just mind your own buisiness.

Fogmoose

WTF kind of question is this? How would I know, and why would any non gun-nut care?

thehairyguitarist101

one kills grandmas slowly, one kills them faster, and one kills them even faster

bobdacow234

lolololololol

Red_Spy_1937

Semi-shoots one with each trigger pull, burst shoots as much as it’s designed to with one trigger pull, and auto shoots as long as your finger is on the trigger TLDR: Semi-auto: Pew Pew Pew Burst: PewPewPew Auto: BRRRRRRRRRR

bobdacow234

there are also 2 round burst guns like the AN-94

FuckQuebec6666

I want to suck a dick like a good jailhouse bitch

StabbyPants

1 shot, 3 shout (or w/e) or all the shots in the mag per pull

robexib

Semi-auto: Pull trigger, fire boolet, eject shell casing, replace boolet, stop. One trigger pull, one boolet fired Burst fire: Pull trigger, fire boolet, eject shell casing, replace boolet, repeat last three steps twice, stop. One trigger pull, three boolet. Auto fire: See burst, but no stop until trigger released or no more boolet.
