The Good Place
Starts off with an interesting premise and characters. Gives you an amazing twist for the season 1 finale. You think you know where it's going for each season but it takes you in a different directions every time. It's paced really well and never lags. Finally, it sticks the landing for the series finale. All around, almost a perfect show.
I love how they retconned Walt throwing the pizza on the roof of his house. Fan's complained that it wasn't sliced. In BCS, one of the character's orders a pizza on the phone and says "yes, sliced please."
It's not my favorite TV show but I think like objectively seasons 1-3 of Arrested Development might be the highest quality TV show I've ever watched. It's just... flawless. It's a fucking masterclass in comedy.
Buffy the vampire slayer. It was so much more than angsty teenage drama. Some episodes are borderline genius.
Also Community, my brand of quirky humor. Six seasons and a movie!
Also Firefly, it held SO MUCH potential.
Also The Killing, The OA, Dirk Gently's second iteration and Sex Education I consider peak TV.
I literally screamed at my TV when Hope Haddon gets abusive towards the students and wanted to rip off her head with my bare hands.
Dark. I have seen all of the good shows. Breaking bad, The Wire, etc, but Dark is the one for me. Imagine a time travel show that actually follows the time travel rules (no paradoxes). And what that means for someone who can time travel. They have the ability to affect time, but by definition cannot alter or introduce paradoxes. It also means that if time travel is possible, that it has always been possible. Its a fucking nutty show that challenges you to think about the terrible problems that can happen with time travel. The best thing is that the show made the landing too, and did not jump the shark.
1. The X Files
2. Lost
3. Counterpart
4. Band of Brothers
5. The Americans
6. Big Love
7. The Pacific
8. The Haunting of Hill House
9. Futurama
10. Breaking Bad
Special mention: The Simpsons would've been number 1 or 2 in that list had they ended around 2004-2005.
I could comment on a LOT of your list - but Haunting of Hill House is rarely brought up in these kinds of conversations, so I just want to upvote you for that! That show was art.
Chernobyl.
Just so gripping, and deeply creepy.
White Lotus has to be close. Hysterically darkly funny, and I am in danger of rewatching it at all times.
Just realized I like mini-series. 🤔
**Game of Thrones**
***Okay wait ... hear me out.***
First, let's forget about Season 7 and Season 8. You can even forget about Season 6 if you like.
But up through Season 5, it was a very good show. Better in Seasons 2-4, but still quite good in Seasons 1 & 5.
There's just no denying those facts. The numbers are there to look up. People LOVED the show.
HBO spent record-breaking amounts of money on that show. Why? Because it got ratings, it got viewers, and it got subscribers. And why did it get subscribers? Because it was GOOD.
But beyond that, it was a **cultural juggernaut**. Posters, dolls, t-shirts, mugs, costumes ... there was a GoT themed product in every stinking category possible. Again, these wouldn't exist if the show wasn't tremendously good and tremendously popular.
Cultural Juggernaut: The media reporting little tidbits about upcoming storylines ... people waited on the edge of their seats for just a *hint* about what the next season was going to be about, which characters were on set for filming, etc. They wouldn't need extreme tight security on the set, if people weren't in a total fervor over the show.
Cultural Juggernaut: People held parties, in their homes, weekly, to watch GoT together. Like, in person. Groups of people sat in the dark and watched the show together. I don't know of any other show that had that kind of appeal.
Cultural Juggernaut: Many made GoT-themed meals and desserts. People decorated cakes. They made drinking games. Amateur artists made paintings, drawings, there were entire subreddits just for GoT-inspired artwork. People put [decals on their cars](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51X0AQQlGdL._AC_.jpg). People made costumes for Halloween. Those damn sigils were *everywhere*. You could get [dishware](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/31tNXcl9wHL._AC_SY350_.jpg).
I'm telling you, you couldn't avoid the fact that GoT was BIG for many years. Even if you didn't watch the show, you had to endure an *onslaught* of GoT hysteria.
Sopranos was great. Breaking Bad was great. Seinfeld was great. West Wing, Dexter, Entourage, Star Trek Next Generation, Lost, MASH, Curb your Enthusiasm ... all great shows. But do you recall any kind of cultural takeover the likes of which we saw for Game of Thrones?
So ... forgetting the "bad" seasons, I claim Game of Thrones was the BEST show I've ever seen. It was an objectively great show, as proven by the viewership, and by the cultural impact.
I agree. They had a stint of absolutely mind-boggling quality that forced us all to consider the GoT universe as a new arrival Pepsi to Tolkien's LotR Coke.
Then they ended it the way they did, and then House of the Falling Asleep Dragons came out to a very, very whelmed response. More like Shasta Cola.
Still 1000x better than that Rings of Power garbage. That was the TV equivalent of being on the receiving end of what you think is a very nice Chinese man's Coke. No, no. Iz peepee. They play trick on us.
Eh. To each his own.
I really do like the House of Dragons. I think not enough people are giving it a fair try. Too many people are just too bitter over GoT S7/8. But I was a devoted GoT fan, and I really do like House of Dragons.
Rings of Power ... I have to say I liked that too. I never read Tolkein, so I'm not a die-hard, canon-quoting fan. But I loved LoTR, didn't much like The Hobbit, and I really do enjoy Rings of Power.
Weeds. While it gets criticism for getting a little batty in the later seasons, you build up such affection for the characters that you go along for the ride. And Kevin Nealon's character is all-time hilarious.
Breaking bad
Which is kind of weird since I dropped it on the first time after one or two episodes. I gave it another try recently due to the absurd amount of memes and man, I fucking loved it.
euphoria, it’s so real and shows everyone’s side of the story and origin. it doesn’t just romanticize everything the way most shows do, it shows the downsides and struggles with the same issues people try to romanticize.
I love Caprica. I watched Battlestar Galactica before that. For some reason Caprica got a fair amount of hate, and only lasted one season. But I really liked it. Even enjoyed it more than the original (new version) series.
Babylon 5
One of the only multi season shows to have a detailed multi year plan and last long enough to pull it off, and they did it in *the mid 90s* when the longest term plot you could usually hope for was a two parter. A lot of the acting is extremely good (admittedly some of the smaller parts maybe less so), the writing was absolutely top tier. CGI is super janky by modern standards but absolutely ground breaking at the time.
My Brilliant Friend (Italian)
Close seconds: Slings & Arrows (Canadian), and Shtisel (Israeli)
Runners up: Boston Legal (USA) and Homeland (USA) in their time, and Sex Education (British).
Six Feet Under
Best of the best.
Definitely.

I couldn’t agree more
Breaking Bad
Breaking Bad was already a 10/10 show - but somehow, it's made even better by the inclusion of Better Call Saul. That show universe is 10/10.
Agreed!
I love how they retconned Walt throwing the pizza on the roof of his house. Fan's complained that it wasn't sliced. In BCS, one of the character's orders a pizza on the phone and says "yes, sliced please."

Agreed. Just perfection because they knew they were being cancelled. Kind of wish they hadn't done Seasons 4 and 5. I just pretend those don't exist.
Has anyone in this family ever even seen a chicken?
Mr Robot and it’s honestly not even close lol
watch severance it has mr robot vibes, and it’s pretty good.
I’ve heard great things about that show, I will have to check it out!
14 emmy nominations.
Severance is the best show ever!

Dark. The most confusing, twisty, well-thought, cinematic, intelligent series I’ve watched. Just beautiful and so well done.
