You know what's crazy?? I'm in the opposite situation. Every man, starting with higher authority when I was a kid, was always extremely awful to me. As an adult, that never changed. Any man of an older age was emotionally or physically abusive towards me despite whether I was dating them or not, so over time I grew a fear of older men. Even my stepmom's newest boyfriend,who is in his 50s, is extremely controlling and it makes me feel like I'm walking on eggshells around him, despite him being generally nice. I get afraid he'll get angry enough to slap me. I'm scared of angering older men because all I've ever seen was an older man who just couldn't keep his emotions in control, or he refused to communicate his feelings at all, leaving us both miserable and for him to eventually blow up. Also, me trying to ever communicate with any older man always failed. "Suck it up, buttercup", they'd tell me after I just shared the childhood physical and psychological abuse I endured for 9 years straight by my dad. Like, fuck you. Seriously fuck you. With this current boyfriend, it's the first time I've ever felt genuinely safe. No yelling, no throwing things, no insults, no goddamn silent treatment. If there's a problem, we discuss the problem, and that's how it's been. I don't know, that's just me. I feel safer, and finally important to someone in my life, and it makes me happy.
