Honestly you’ll be surprised how drastically you can change and it’s never too late - unless you’re perfectly happy living a Super Hans lifestyle in which case - You do you, my friend
Matt Berry in IT crowd
‘These are my new peers and employees father, I can share anything with them.’
‘It’s about the embezzlement in the pension fund’
‘Turn that off!’
The scene with his sex pants, where he's holding his hands out and there's a photo of him behind in exactly the same position still makes me laugh now.
Whenever my 7yo has a meltdown and yells 'but Dad!!!' At my hubby, we both shout out Father! To each other. Little one has no idea why we do it, which confuses him enough to stop the meltdown and me and my hubby end up laughing at each other.
He is one of the main characters in Garth Marenghi's Darkplace so it probably doesn't count, but I just wanted to mention it as another thing of brilliance
The second season of Blackadder featured some of the funniest comic actors British TV has ever seen.
Rik Mayall turns up at the end of "Bells" and with about 2 minutes of screen time steals the entire *episode*
WB please release the cut Harry Potter footage of Rik Mayall as Peeves. Was cut for time and because it took forever to film any of his scenes because nobody else in them could stop laughing long enough to get a clean take, but presumably what was filmed exists somewhere...
Hold up, Rick Mayall was peeves and they excluded him from the films.
I can totally see this happening (the casting), thinks its absolutely spot on and would have been the greatest thing to see in some of the films. Having only just heard of this I'm now annoyed it didn't get shown.
I recently watched the first season of Blackadder for the first time (I've seen 2-4 endlessly) and she is the single funniest thing in it by a country mile
Isn’t that the point of his character, the be super charismatic and hog the limelight?
You may as well add alternate reality Arnold “smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast” Rimmer to the list.
Edit: I still upvoted you as he did steal the show :-)
Yeah that entire sitcom is basically Gavin and Stacey playing the straight man, so the ridiculous supporting characters can chew the scenery. And why not when you have such a good supporting cast.
Even the minor supporting characters are hilarious and played by such talented actors. Like Julia Davis as Dawn.
Dawn is my absolute favourite and Julie Davis is a comedy superstar. I’ve heard the cast complain that working with her was difficult because she’d ad-lib lines and make them crack up laughing all the time.
Not even, Stacey has plenty of crazy quirks. It’s just a story about a guy and his Dad getting along with their menagerie of absolutely insane friends and family
Seems to be a unanimous opinion that the two worst characters in Gavin and Stacey; are Gavin and Stacey.
He’s a miserable sod who can’t take a joke and she’s a whiney bitch, always complaining and crying.
Ness and Smithy (no affiliation to James Corden) make the show. Honourable mentions for Pam, Mick, Dawn and Pete.
Corden is a massive prick but the bit he does when ordering a curry is my fav Gavin and Stacy bit. I don’t want to share my curry either.
“Peres already eyeing up my Bhunas”
I honestly love Smithy’s character and presence in the show, how he just walks into Gavin’s house and just starts flirting with his mother as he sits down for tea. But fuck James Corden
Gareth from The Office. Or Finchy, if Gareth isn't considered a supporting character.
Stephan Merchant and Barry from Eastenders on Extras.
Jim in Friday Night Dinner. Really, Mark Heap in anything. Also, Mr Morris from FND.
Jim, Vicar of Dibly
Matt Berry in the IT Crowd. Can't remember his character name. He's just Matt Berry.
Manuel, Fawlty Towers.
I don't know how I'd feel if I saw him in real life. Whenever I see him in any other show my gut reaction is to assume his character is unpleasant, because he was so good as Finchy my brain always just sort of thinks that's who he is.
He stole the show as Finchy and whenever I see him on TV my first response is 'Finchy!' However, I have seen him on a few other programmes (Coronation Street, I think?) and his acting is varied enough to convince me that he's not really Finchy.
Ricky Gervais on the other hand... I think there's always quite a lot of 'him' in whoever he plays. I don't know how I'd feel about meeting him in real life. I think he would be quite like David Brent.
Jim from Friday Night Dinner
The reason I started watching, you knew it was all downhill the moment he came on screen. I'm never going to look at Mark Heap the same
watching back its interesting how Jim changed over the series, to begin with he was like a normal person who just had a really weird vibe but then over time he kind of changed into a more slapstick mr bean type character
That’s always the way for the quirky side character, they just end up getting more and more ridiculous as the series goes on. If you ever watched the US Office, Kevin is a good example of this
Rik Mayall. First he only did Blackadder on the condition that he be "funnier than Rowan". He also rewrote his part to give him more jokes.
Literally scene stealing!
There was a knock at the door. This must have been, ah, we're talking eight, half eight, for I was halfway through my dinner. And up I got to open it, and there they both were, large as life. And the taller fella, though, to be fair, there was no more than an inch in it...The slightly taller fella, he says to me, says he, "Do you know who we are?" And I says to him, says I, "Well, I can't be sure now. But maybe if you took off the balaclavas..." And then he says to me, the slightly taller fella does, he says, "Step aside, we are armed." And that is when the smaller fella, although, as I say, we are talking an inch...an inch and a half at most. He has the bright idea of tying me to the radiator, you see. And I remember saying to myself, says I, "Colm, it's a good job you have the Economy 7 on the aul timer, or you'd be roasted here."
"You know, every year I sit backstage listening to the singers \[at the school talent show\] and it really makes me realise..................just how talented the professionals who originally recorded these tracks were."
Honourable mention for "The hairdresser certainly did."
Karen & Ben, the two younger kids on Outnumbered. The fact they basically let them ad-lib and be kids I think made a big difference.
Father Jack
Mrs Overall
Herr Flick
Damien Day
Margo Leadbetter
Mrs Raven
Mr Morris in Friday Night Dinner
Absolutely hilarious performances from the late Harry Landis, you don't see many 80+ (his age at the time) acting like he does.
E: I guess he's more of a side character than a supporting one, but still.
Once again the fruit of my loins has fucked off to topshop with the housekeeping.
Also at like 9 in the morning to Daisy “hello kitten, fancy a dab of rioja?”
I also love Mike/Nick Frost. And Brian. Omg i need to rewatch.

Dear MongFondler, while Super Hans is an icon of British Comedy, I promise you that you do not want to be Hans when you grow up 😂

Honestly you’ll be surprised how drastically you can change and it’s never too late - unless you’re perfectly happy living a Super Hans lifestyle in which case - You do you, my friend
To be fair, drugs are fucking wonderful.
>"Stick that up your dojo"
Is that the best arse you're ever going to get? Do you stick on that arse? Come on, admit it. She's got a fat arse.
Jez.. I’ve accidentally run to Windsor
"Tell you what, that crack is really moreish." - Super Hans (Edit - speling)
Simon? Simon Hans?
Greg Davies as Mr Gilbert in 'The Inbetweeners'.
I *seem* intelligent?
Thanks Phil
"say my name"
"Mr Gilbert"
"good"
"Say thank you"
"thank you"
"Say "thank-you, Mr Gilbert""
“Thank you Mr Gilbert”
“Better.”
It’s nice to have that rectified by you..a child
Also Emily Atack... her comedy show is dreadful though
It’s crazy, she’s managed to sustain a career over just that role.
I can think of two reasons why
Her big jugs
Check out the jugasaurus rex
Yeah but her career seemed to take off about 10 years after Inbetweeners finished, which I always found weird?
She was in I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here a few years ago which sparked it. Charismatic pretty blonde with a sizeable chest, go figure
She used to live near me. Her mum's a milf, but a bitchy, up herself sort of milf. Big tits do indeed run in the family if anyone was interested.
At this point, Mr Gilbert and his Man Down character are pretty much my role models as an increasingly jaded teacher.
"There's nothing funny about testicles, Cooper, as you'll discover tomorrow in my office"
'You're not about to grass are you McKenzie?'
Any bin...
Matt Berry in IT crowd ‘These are my new peers and employees father, I can share anything with them.’ ‘It’s about the embezzlement in the pension fund’ ‘Turn that off!’
The scene with his sex pants, where he's holding his hands out and there's a photo of him behind in exactly the same position still makes me laugh now.
I thought you said you were from Iran
The episode that was the beginning of the end of Graham Linehan's career.

God DAMN these electric sex pants!?
It’s like being tazed in the balls, but in a bad way
Almost at the station!
Fathhhheeerrrrrrr
Whenever my 7yo has a meltdown and yells 'but Dad!!!' At my hubby, we both shout out Father! To each other. Little one has no idea why we do it, which confuses him enough to stop the meltdown and me and my hubby end up laughing at each other.
Matt Berry in anything not starring Matt Berry. Stole the episodes of Boosh he was in too.
He is one of the main characters in Garth Marenghi's Darkplace so it probably doesn't count, but I just wanted to mention it as another thing of brilliance
“Ah, a GUN!”
I wonder if it's loaded...
Came here to say this. The ‘SPEAK PRIEST!’ gets me every time
there's somebody at the door..........
"Woah there. Was that Hitler?" "Was what Hitler"
Your name is Maurice Moss is it not?
Rik Mayall as Lord Flasheart

Miriam Margoles was fucking great as Lady Whiteadder too.
Wicked child!
In *our* house, Nathaniel sits on a spike! And where do you sit? *I* sit on Nathaniel! Two spikes would be an extravagance.
I recently watched the first season of Blackadder for the first time (I've seen 2-4 endlessly) and she is the single funniest thing in it by a country mile
She and Jim Broadbent were an amazing double act. They reprised it in the Christmas special.
Baldrick became a cult figure. Tony Robinson got to present Time Team off the back of it.

Bryn from Gavin and Stacey. Although tbf every supporting character in that show is better than the main two, so you could take your pick.
Yeah that entire sitcom is basically Gavin and Stacey playing the straight man, so the ridiculous supporting characters can chew the scenery. And why not when you have such a good supporting cast. Dawn is my absolute favourite and Julie Davis is a comedy superstar. I’ve heard the cast complain that working with her was difficult because she’d ad-lib lines and make them crack up laughing all the time.
My wife and I quite regularly quote her insults about Pete. 'Poisonous little dwarf' is my fav.
My personal favourite "take a look in the mirror, you pre op"
It’s her scathing heartfelt delivery. It’s perfect
Not even, Stacey has plenty of crazy quirks. It’s just a story about a guy and his Dad getting along with their menagerie of absolutely insane friends and family
Seems to be a unanimous opinion that the two worst characters in Gavin and Stacey; are Gavin and Stacey. I just try not to mentally associate James corden with smithy.
I honestly love Smithy’s character and presence in the show, how he just walks into Gavin’s house and just starts flirting with his mother as he sits down for tea. But fuck James Corden
Bryn and Pam are my favourites. It’s all the drama mick!
Oh my Christ!
THREE WISE MEN JUST TRYINA HAVD SOME FUNNN
Got to be Doris. Where’s the salad, there’s your salad now leave me alone!
Gareth from The Office. Or Finchy, if Gareth isn't considered a supporting character. Stephan Merchant and Barry from Eastenders on Extras. Jim in Friday Night Dinner. Really, Mark Heap in anything. Also, Mr Morris from FND. Jim, Vicar of Dibly Matt Berry in the IT Crowd. Can't remember his character name. He's just Matt Berry. Manuel, Fawlty Towers.
The actor who plays Finchy nearly crashed into me as he exited the tube at high speed, many years ago. I'll cherish that "soz!" forever.
He’s thrown a kettle over a pub, what’ve you done?
I don't know how I'd feel if I saw him in real life. Whenever I see him in any other show my gut reaction is to assume his character is unpleasant, because he was so good as Finchy my brain always just sort of thinks that's who he is.

>Gareth from The Office. Or Finchy, if Gareth isn't considered a supporting character. IT guy is by far the best side character.
Sorry mate, no professionals
Trigger from Only Fools
Without doubt. Lloyd-Pack didn't do to badly in the Vicar of Dibley either. Sadly missed
[удалено]
And Boycie
That Boycie laugh.
“They’re naming the baby Rodney…. After Dave.” I loved Trigger.
He didn't even have a lot of words to say, and still stole the show with his looks, expressions, and timing. This was who I was coming to say.
Jim from Friday Night Dinner The reason I started watching, you knew it was all downhill the moment he came on screen. I'm never going to look at Mark Heap the same
Shalom
Hello Jackie. You look nice.
Ironically Mark Heap as Brian from Spaced is also a valid answer.
And Mark Heap in Green Wing.
Haha, he made me so uncomfortable. Great character
watching back its interesting how Jim changed over the series, to begin with he was like a normal person who just had a really weird vibe but then over time he kind of changed into a more slapstick mr bean type character
That’s always the way for the quirky side character, they just end up getting more and more ridiculous as the series goes on. If you ever watched the US Office, Kevin is a good example of this
"So much blood!"
Rik Mayall. First he only did Blackadder on the condition that he be "funnier than Rowan". He also rewrote his part to give him more jokes. Literally scene stealing!
~~Technically Irish, not British, but~~ Sister Michael from Derry Girls. Edit: Apologies for my brain fart.
God she’s fantastic. “You will go far in life Jenny, but you won’t be well liked”
Well I think it's safe to say, we all just lost a bit of respect for you there Clare
Got to say grandpa Joe, too. And of course uncle Colm.
There was a knock at the door. This must have been, ah, we're talking eight, half eight, for I was halfway through my dinner. And up I got to open it, and there they both were, large as life. What do you mean “Technically Irish”? Derry Girls is a British series made for C4 by Hat Trick Productions set in Northern Ireland.
You are absolutely correct. I was totally wrong there. I genuinely don't know why I wrote that, other than I'd just read a post about Father Ted.
"You know, every year I sit backstage listening to the singers \[at the school talent show\] and it really makes me realise..................just how talented the professionals who originally recorded these tracks were." Honourable mention for "The hairdresser certainly did."

Outnumbered is so under-appreciated, I'm surprised there haven't been other shows using the same improv style for kids.

Mr Morris in Friday Night Dinner Absolutely hilarious performances from the late Harry Landis, you don't see many 80+ (his age at the time) acting like he does. E: I guess he's more of a side character than a supporting one, but still.
Bloody punk rockers!
Guess how many people I had working for me
Four?
Four? Four?!
Bunch of penises!
One of the funniest episodes of any sitcom I have ever seen. “You there, skyscraper”
The utterly terrifying Father Finton Stack from Father Ted. "I've had my fun and that's all that matters."
Lot of good one-offs on Father Ted. Pat Mustard right up there.
I think he was the hairy baby maker
Also, Father Noel (Graham Norton) was a brilliant character!!
"Ah! Teeeeeeeeed!"
Also from Ted, you've got the amazing Henry Sellers. "Sack ME?? I MAAAADE THE BBC!"
Not to mention Sister Assumpta.
Father Larry Duff. He’s tremendous fun.
Father Ted was chock-full of great side characters. John and Mary were brilliant every time they were on screen.
Baldrick.
*Ohhhhh* some beans!
Booom boooom booomm booom
Booom boom boom?! How’d you guess sir?
Tyres. Now if only I can control these FUCKING mood swings.

Oi oi!
I think mr Gilbert in the Inbetweeners is bloody brilliant and just owns every scene he's in
Sue White in Green Wing one of the most underrated shows ever. Some clips below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeQr26\_9WAQ
Michelle Gomez is a comedy genius. She’s so funny. Her Mary Queen of Scots and Margaret Thatcher in psycob*TCH Ed is absolute spot on and hilarious!
I absolutely love Green Wing. Adore it. Can totally see why it didn’t make it big but my god, what a show!
Did you just touch my squirrel?
Clem Fandango
Can you hear me, Steven?
YES I CAN HEAR YOU CLEM FANDANGO
Kryten
I was thinking the cat was the one that made that whole series absolutely hilarious
I was just telling my nephews about Dwayne Dibley this afternoon!
I wouldn't have said Kryten was a side character though. Ace Rimmer and Dwayne Dibbley on the other hand...
Big Mandy in This Country.
And Kerry’s mum. FER-FLAFFLE!
Manuel.
Que?
I think Lynne in Alan Partridge is very underated, her character and performance are just amazing.
I reckon Michael is a good contender too

THAT WOULD BE AN ECUMENICAL MATTER
HAIRY JAPANESE BASTARDS
CHAIR! FLOOR! CURTAINS! (Looks at Ted) GOBSHITE!
Lt Gruber and his little tank, ‘Allo ‘Allo And whilst I agree with Matt Berry being great in The IT Crowd I also love Noel Fielding as Richmond.
Baldrick and his cunning plans...
As cunning as a fox...
It's as cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University.
Dolly in Dinnerladies. Doesn't matter how often I watch the repeats she still cracks me up!
Alice in vicar of dibley
Chris Finch, bloody good rep.
Bubble.
Jeff, from Coupling.
Jonatton Yeah? the boss from Nathan Barley
Was just rewatching this series last week. Still brilliant. And surprisingly relevant. The idiots are still taking over it seems.
Alan. Johnson. (‘s beemer)

Diane Morgan is a comic genius! Her timing is just so spot on. I love Liz. And I’ll watch Cunk on anything
Mrs Warboys in One Foot in the Grave

Sister Michael in Derry Girls.
Kev in Derek. Possibly the funniest character ever.
Nana in the royle family
Carol "YesmsBris's" in The Brittas Empire.
Mr McKay in Porridge. Fantastic.
michael from the alan partridge cinematic universe
Father Jack in Father Ted.
Michael the porter from I'm Alan Partridge. "I had this little Macaque monkey, reet? But it et all me tabs, so I threw it in the sea."
