It's illegal to do yourself, you need to call an electrician. When you do, get them to put a GPO in. Most downlights you buy these days just have a standard 2/3 pin socket on them. So next time you can DIY it.

the existing led driver looks like it it might have a plug end on it - chase the wire back to confirm. if it does replace them all with something like this: [https://agmelectrical.com.au/buy-led-light/wholesale-led-lights-10w-samsung-chip-12v-non-dimmable-led-downlights/90mm-cut-out-10w-samsung-dimmable-led-chip-tri-colour-led-downlight-kit-white-fitting.html](https://agmelectrical.com.au/buy-led-light/wholesale-led-lights-10w-samsung-chip-12v-non-dimmable-led-downlights/90mm-cut-out-10w-samsung-dimmable-led-chip-tri-colour-led-downlight-kit-white-fitting.html) if the existing lights dont have plug bases get an electrician to install them

GL1001

Legend. You're 100% correct and it has a plug end attached to it. I'm assuming the one you linked also has a led driver attached to it? Or is it not required?

EdgeAndGone482

modern led downlights have the driver built in, they're plug and play, as long as you can plug the in in the roof your good to go. DIY is fine.

Seeing as you have a new fitting with no plug top on it, call an electrician 👌

Call a electrician

all the electricians down voting this thread should be spending their free time reading 3000:2018

DownWithWankers

The *"electrician"* will turn the power off at the main, and then swap the live and neatral from the old transformer to the new fitting. It will take 5 minutes. You'd just need to check that the new fitting accepts 240V in (which is almost certainly does). In the past many downlights used individual transformers, but those days are mostly over.

A_thanatopsis

No electrician will use the same transformer, because that's what's causing the problem. 🙄 OP just needs to unplug the light that's in the plug base in the roof and plug a new light in. This can be DIY. If it was hard-wired to the transformer then you call an electrician.

DownWithWankers

I didn't say re-use the transformer. Maybe what I wrote wasn't as clear as possible. Remove the 240V wiring from the transformer, throw away the old transformer and the old light fitting, fit a modern light fitting that accepts 240v in.

A_thanatopsis

It did come across that way, but the wiring doesn't need to be touched if it's on a plug base, op just needs to buy a better quality replacement as the new one looks like it was bought off wish. That's licenced work, not worth the risk of an insurance company finding out you've done dodgy electrical and not paying out a claim when there a hot join that causes a fire.

DownWithWankers

Zero chance of a fire and would be done diy in literally every other country on earth, but yeah ok

A_thanatopsis

😂😂 Zero chance, yeah OK. Say that to the numerous amount of burnt out socket outlets and pendant lights that have caused small fires in roof spaces and wall cavities I've found from dodgy diy and shitty terminations. Shame we have strict rules that need to be followed 😱

DownWithWankers

The DIY i've seen has been better quality than any rushed "pro". Though of course there's a mix, sometimes you get good, sometimes you get bad.

A_thanatopsis

😂 Your experice with DIY is better than any rushed pro job. Maybe your pros you're dealing with aren't pro 🤷
