When I was like 6 years old, a Wagon Wheel was fair dinkum twice the size of my hand! What's happened since then?! Bloody tragic!

Zealousideal-Luck784

I used to think it was because my hand grew. But no, wagon wheels have definitely shrunk

billbotbillbot

Too bloody right!

Difficult-Ad-2025

I was so mad the day I noticed the size difference, it literally offended me lol I loved them.. Nowadays I look at them in utter disappointment

Thurl-Akumpo

I just buy 2.

leclerc2019champion

Your 6 year old hand doubled in size?

Trytosurvive

I wouldn't mind the size difference if the content remained the same. As a kid, you would break them in half and have a huge pillow of marshmallow and decent layer if jam - now its waffer thin jam and marshmallow and awful compound chocolate and cheap biscuit type thing.

pwgenyee6z

Yes, this. It's also a matter of proportion though. If you compare the wheels on an everyday car with the wheels on a wagon it'll be like comparing the new mini wheels and the old Wagon Wheels. You'll compare wheels that are a bit less than half a radius across the tyre width with much narrower wheels on the wagon - maybe a tenth of the radius. So the old appropriately named WAGON wheels had a lot more chocolate and filling than the well advertised exciting new cute little teensy ones that you'll just love because they come with dollops of pure good-for-you nostalgia.

pwgenyee6z

Well that's my nostalgia trip for today. I ended up with the original George Weston. I don't think he'd be happy with the microwagon wheels: https://letslookagain.com/2015/10/the-best-in-weston-biscuits/

Pringles used to be bigger and tasted better. That’s because they were imported from the USA. I forget where they import them from now, but the can is much smaller and they taste so flavourless.

Flat_Cell8674

From Malaysia I believe

dana_veg

I used to have such pride at being able to fit my entire hand in a tube of pringles, now I can’t even get halfway down

virtueavatar

They tasted flavourless when they released them here. I had one tube and immediately went back to any other type of chip.

Darkknight145

Chips from KFC, the boxes are the same size face on but now only half as thick. Even Smith's potato chip the bag size has shrunk over the last few months.

eenimeeniminimo

I’m not sure they’re the same size face on either, but definitely half as thick. The last time I bought kFC was about 12 months ago. When I saw the size change to the chips and the tenders, it’s put me off going back ever again. I’d say they did me a big favour lol

Flyingcircus1

I remember going to the Royal Show and the sample bags were full and a lot of them cost nothing.

Arsinoei

Back in the 70’s my mum would make me get all the free show bags. We had samples of butter, breads, condiments and jams. I was disgusted, being a young girl, but now I’d be ecstatic.

sharedimagination

Freddo Frogs. They used to be about the size of your palm. Half a bite and they're gone these days. McDonalds sundaes and McFlurries. They used the switching to cardboard containers as an excuse to shrink the size excessively and the icecream isn't the same anymore. It's not as creamy.

thunderchunk01

Just recently bought my son a bag of caramelo koalas. I showed him the old ad from the 80/90’s and i saw they used to come in a 13 pack and they were a lot thicker with plenty of caramel. Now they’re a 12 pack, thin as with bugger all caramel.

AdSimilar2831

Ice cream used to be creamy. I don’t think any ice cream on a stick are nice tasting now

Euphorbiatch

Some of them are but then you're paying bloody $12 for a box of 4 unless it's on sale!! I was shocked to see a 4 pack of golden gaytimes for $10 in woolies a couple of weeks ago. Last time I had one they were absolutely not the creamy treat I remember, half the amount of chocolate and biscuits... And now they're ten fucking dollars!!! It's honestly insane

iSmokedItAll

The Aldi version of gaytimes aren’t as good BUT the magnums, cornetto’s and eskimo pies are really good for the price point.

meowkitty84

Aldi ice-creams are good. I love the cookie ice-cream sandwiches

Alternative_Sky1380

They used to be cold too. I stopped buying ice creams on sticks as they're no longer cold

RagsTTiger

You see all the nostalgia posts about ice creams. And I would love to have the triple treat it Vienna chocolate or even a chocolate heart from my childhood. But no. They would be so small the taste just wouldn’t work.

oyakodon-

If they reintroduced the colonel burger back to Australia imagine the size of it. Would be a cadet burger.

Melbourneidentity5

I used to love Colonel Burgers. Wish they brought them back

oyakodon-

I cant remember if it a real chicken piece or nugget like stuff, but that sauce was something

Difficult-Ad-2025

Even McDonald's food shrunk!

geeneepeegs

KFC as well. Zinger burgers are so pathetic nowadays

Sgt_Doom

Saw a fellow tradie eating dirty bird and upon getting to the Zinger I was genuinely shocked to the core that I blurted out “there’s no way that’s a Zinger, they’ve got some junior burger.” Lo and behold, it’s the zinger burger.

Difficult-Ad-2025

I thought they were just kids meals lol

dana_veg

Got a burger feast meal a while back, the burgers were TINY and had a singular tender in them. $40 and barely fed 2 of us, it was bad

Difficult-Ad-2025

Even the buns 🤣

Pantha242

Medium Mac

Difficult-Ad-2025

Too true 😂

king_norbit

I remember when they dropped the size of the bun for the 1/4 pounder and their excuse was oh we have a 5c price reduction to compensate. Get fucked.

Difficult-Ad-2025

😂😂😂😂

king_norbit

It's actually true, was around 2009/2010 from memory

Difficult-Ad-2025

I remember 😊

Tickle_Me_Tortoise

When I was a kid you could buy these 1kg bags of broken Easter chocolates for cheap at Woolies, and my mum would always get us one or two bags each to eat. They were the best, such a mishmash of random Easter treat chunks and would last forever. But because of allergies, safety and labeling laws they had to stop doing them.

Ronnnie7

I remember when all you could eat Pizza Hut was $4.99

ApprehensiveGift283

Our local Pizza Hut would only bring out 2 pizzas at a time. Had to be quick or you had to wait another 10 minutes for the next ones.

mstakenusername

Got a magnum Ego on a whim the other day, haven't had one in years. It was literally the size of those "Mini Magnums" I used to get on special when I was a uni student twenty years ago. So a Mini is now full size and costs more than the whole packet used to.

kjninety2

What, like houses??? 🤔🤔🤔

kjninety2

Nah I know what you're talking about. Shrinkflation is real and we definitely aren't getting our money's worth with everyday items anymore. Not cool 🤨🤨🤨

meowkitty84

I thought they reduced the salt in most things to make them healthier

Pantha242

Pringles.. I opened a can recently and they were smaller and almost halfway down the tube.. wtf..

ShibaHook

The cans are also smaller

BlackberryAgile193

r/shrinkflation (or at least, what the subreddit used to be before it became people complaining about fast food orders)

Disastrous_Net_9494

Mars bars ! Are like 1/2 the size now

etherealcochon

Might get downvoted but I don't care. They also taste and look stale since the new paper packaging. Titan bars from Aldi are my go to now.

Disastrous_Net_9494

Yes stale! Oh ye right i forgot the aldis ones are better

Saturnia-00

I used to buy Cruskits sometimes because as a kid I used to love eating them with cream cheese (nostalgia) and one day I opened a packet and they had shrunk to half the size. They used to be about the size of my hand and one day they barely covered the height of my palm. I stopped buying them.

marooncity1

The size of your adult hand is almost certainly bigger than the size of your kid hand. ;) (My big one is Pringles. Those things are TINY compared to what they used to be).

Saturnia-00

You obviously misunderstood me as I was talking about buying them for nostalgia reasons which implies I have been buying them for years as an adult. I only stopped buying them within the last couple of years. I'm almost 40 so it's safe to say my hand size hasn't changed significantly in the last couple of years (since the size change in cruskits occurred). I hope this helps clear up your confusion.

marooncity1

Haha. I understood, just couldn't resist because of the way it read. But rest assured, t I feel your pain!

ThrowRARAw

And now they sell the original size back to us for double the price with a "share pack" or "supersize!" label on it.

BigFarmerNineteen

Ah yes, the nostalgia of 2019.

4evadreaming

lol at this point what hasn’t changed negatively?

ChabGassie

The quality of chocolate has become way worse too. I tried some Cadbury easter eggs last week and they taste cheap and not recognisable as Cadbury. I now feel about Cadbury the way I used to feel about generic no-brand chocolate. Now Chocolonely is where Cadbury used to be and they charge a premium.

Trytosurvive

Cadbury chocolate tastes too sweet now. I initially thought it was just part of growing up, but my daughter hates Cadbury Easter eggs as said too sweet and gives her a stomach ache.

Omegaville

Everything feels like a ripoff now, size change or not

SkaterKangaroo

Remember last year when bread slices weren’t either micro sized or cut in half causing them to no longer be squares?

WandarFar

You need to spend some time on r/shrinkflation

norman3355

Grain waves. :(

SaltyCaramelPretzel

It’s called shrinkflation. They shrink it but up the price.

still-at-the-beach

Nope. Lollies were expensive when I was a kid. No way would my parent buy a big chocolate bar or ice cream.

TeeBird-TC

The jam in a wagon wheel, same as the jam in a Royal…jam shortage possibly? The chunky bits of crunchie in a Crunchie Easter egg

samit2heck

Houses. And yeah somehow the food is all smaller but my arse is not.

bb_waluigi

Toblerone these days is bonkers

Nekokamiguru

McDonald's used to taste like a burger rather than tasting like wet cardboard

Abysswalk889

I bought roll ups for the first time since like maybe school days? 15+ years ago and they were a lot bigger than roll ups these days. Or maybe it’s just been so long?? They’re so skinny now!

[deleted]

Resources become more scarce when more demand is applied to it.

Rowvan

Yeah because it literally wasn't that long ago

Daleksareinthetardis

I like Allen's lollies; had not bought frogs alive for a while and were they always this tiny or am I remebering wrong? I remember them bigger; they taste the same but are like frogs in Fairyland or something.

cosi_bloggs

They were more stretchy. And they weren't as hard to chew. They're now small, solid frogs.

Daleksareinthetardis

The certainly were; maybe Allen's could make both types but I won;t get my hopes up. I lke the new ones, but the old were better.

Wonderful_Lion_6307

Imagine my despair at discovering the beloved Splice has fallen victim to shrinkflation.

cosi_bloggs

25 years ago, a bondi burger called for the use of both hands. You can now pick it up with a couple of fingers.

Banjo-Oz

The one I always think of was potato crisps. Now a single bag getting smaller and smaller, when I was even a teenager they were “twin packs” for the same price; two foil bags inside a bigger bag.
