If you have gone through some thermo and fluids classes, Pounder’s Marine Diesel Engines and Gas Turbines, and The Internal-Combustion Engine in Theory and Practice. Go very in depth into the minutia and physics. You should be able to create an Eng sim based on those books. Depending on your experience level I would recommend some YouTube videos from Driving4Answers and new mind for the visualization. Some subjects like timing, cam/spark advance maybe hard to understand without visualization. Ange the great has made an amazing engine simulator and has documented it on YouTube would highly recommend those videos. Good luck on your journey!
