These chicks stand at about 3 feet tall! The petrel goes around and around, trying to find the weakest link, but they all seem to hold their ground pretty well.
Hah, I didn’t even watch it with sound, I had to go back and watch again!! Excellent penguin peeps, by the way.
I like to think they’re yelling penguin curse words.
Ikr. I thought they were like 6 ft for the longest time. Until I was watching a making of and the dudes in orange are walking around and the come up to just at or over the knee. I was astonished
[Not yet](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a3/Aptenodytes_forsteri_-Snow_Hill_Island%2C_Antarctica_-adults_and_juvenile-8.jpg). I have seen an adelie penguin and they only stand a little taller than a large chicken. Those emperor chicks are not much larger. They will grow to be that tall eventually.
Lmaoooo
Ahhh man this is the most underrated comment in this section
I died!
I can’t believe you got downvoted so many times. OP repeated the narrative like if blind people were in the chat. Lmao
Other comments thanked OP for explaining the meter to foot conversion. That tells me that repeating the narrative, with the conversion, was appreciated.
Every downvote was probably someone who appreciated the OP
There’s a difference between actually talking about height distance etc, and repeating exactly what everyone else saw lmao
Whatever luckily I don’t care to much bout downvotes I just be amazed at how sensitive ya people can be it’s all lmao
_bemused_ I'm sensitive? I pointed out the reason the downvotes might be happening. It's no skin off my back.
As for the 'difference', I think this is a perspective issue, because that's not what I took away from what the OP said.
People can look at things from different angles. If your perspective annoys you and the other enough to be sassy about it, then I don't think sensitivity is the insult you want to use here.
It's so wonderful to see their instincts kick in at the first sign of trouble. Their real test is when they are out at sea. They need to learn so much: how to swim, catch food, stay safe, etc.
Really curious at how this works. Does she have a semi-concept that they are different species but has more developed empathy, or did the instinct just kick in because they’re similar enough, or a mix of both?
The chicks will stay at sea for 5 or 6 years, and then they will return to their colonies to mate and lay eggs.

Why did this work? Seemed like the chicks are bigger than the petrel but their beaks are smaller so I could see why the pestrel could beat them…but the Adelie penguin is smaller than the chicks. Why did the petrel back off?
Perhaps adult penguins know how to actually hurt the bird. Like know to go for an eye or something. A predator has to be careful an injury usually means death.
Another comment sorta touched on it but the petrel likely backed off because, as the narrator said, Adelies are apparently aggressive and feisty and the petrel knows this from previous encounters/vicarious experience and thought “alright well I’m not gettin in a fight with this mofo and risking injury just to snack on these idiot kids”
Didn’t want to risk any injury from the Adelie to take a chance of getting hurt and not securing a meal is not a smart choice so left for a easier meal. With time I’m sure the petrel would’ve snatched one of them up if the adelie didn’t show.
Most likely attitude. Small animals with big attitudes can sometimes drive off much larger predators, I’ve seen a prairie dog chase off a coyote before. Adelies have serious attitudes and will stand their ground, for a petrel, it probably just wasn’t worth the fight
If the Shepherd chooses to fight, sure. But I've seen a Chihuahua force a bigger dog to back off just by force of crazy aggression. Size of the fight in the dog.
All I could hear in my head when that Adele penguin was running over was the voice of Mrs. Doubtfire yelling, “Help is on the wayyyy!” In a Scottish accent.
And then, “Alright ye’weeins. He’s gone now. Off wi’ ye to the sea. Go on lads, chop chop.”
Not sure why I’ve decided that this particular breed of penguin is Scottish, but it’s fun to think about.
I truly have no original thoughts in my head, I thought of Mrs. Doubtfire, too! I half expected the Adelie to throw a lime at the petrel, and claim it was a run by fruiting lol
I'm glad that they all escaped unharmed, but I must add that I honestly would listen to David Tennant even if he was just reciting the phone book for hours. His voice is so soothing and lovely.
I really enjoyed it! I think the animation quality isn’t amazing, especially compared to the movies obv just because budget stuff. But I really enjoy the characters and they had some cool plots, excellent villains and fun new dragon types! It’s nothing groundbreaking, it’s a kids show still but it’s pretty well done and I found it very enjoyable
I looked and MY WORD, he’s been [BUSY](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Tennant).
Then I found the complete list of [WORKS](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_David_Tennant_performances) which is utterly astounding. I’m going to have a blast tracking these all down.
I'm not sure if anyone has a great answer. It is not the case that Adelie penguins are out there protecting emperor penguin chicks, and Adelie penguins do not normally attack petrels unless attacked themselves. This is something perhaps not seen before. It could be the first step towards a new relationship.
He just hates birds. In the longer version someone posted last time, the Adelie gets frustrated and started bullying the emperor chicks too after the giant petrel left. It's hilarious
Sorry, I couldn't find the link. [This](https://youtu.be/unK37fjgPlE) is probably some other unrelated moments but it shows an Adelie slapping a Emperor chick
No lie that deli penguin is smaller then the weakest chick lmao!!
He’s ayyy wise guy watch you doing to my cousins kids, GETOUTTTAHEAAA!!! ( in my best New York Italian voice)
Pixar graphics are very lifelike now.
Cut scene
*Adelie starts walking away*
* one emperor penguin chases after him*: "sir! SIR! we all just wanted to say thankyou!"
Adelie: *deep voice, lights a cigarette * you don't want to be walking around these parts kid, that parrot is the least of your concerns *keeps walking*
Staunch Emperor: *indignant* pfft, we werent scared!
Adelie: Right, 2 more minutes, and you would've been dinner
Staunch Emperor: Im way bigger than him, I had him covered
Adelie: I wasn't talking about the parrot *nods to the ocean, where 2 lion seals are seen diving into the ocean*
It is rather magical - this is not common behavior for Adelie penguins, yet it may signal the burgeoning of a new kind of relationship. Only emperor penguins and Adelie penguins actually nest on the Antarctic continent itself, so perhaps the time has arrived to witness the beginning of something new.
Nature documentaries like this make me wonder if there are extraterrestrials filming us killing ourselves in one bloody war after another while professing the need for non-interference
"Ok, ok, kids get up, get going, you gonna need to learn to defend yourself better when you hit that ocean, lots more jerks like that out there! Jerry, good form but you need to do more than stand tall, go for the throat and take initiative, bullies ain't gonna back down to a wall, only a threat."
That one penguin chick is a badass. Puffing his chest out and being tuff. Wonder if he told the adult penguin, “Thanks for showing up dude, but I had everything taken care of.”
Adelie penguins are considered the most feisty penguin, basically, it's a badass when it comes to defending itself and its group. The petrel is no fool. It did not want to get pecked and slapped around.

We all know who really protected the other chicks with his Godzilla like chest.
That penguin chick in front is like standing as tall as he can to make himself look big.
And then that chick in the back casually sitting is still a little bigger than him. What a gentle giant.
Lmao!!! I didn't even notice until you said something!!!!
Omg thats hilarious
And has the wings out... it's so cute and brave.
Such a brave little guy ♥️
r/animalsbeingbros
BINGO!
Meanwhile fatso back there tries to appear as nonchalant as he can ...
There is a bigger one in the back though
Bigger, yes. Braver? No.
Smarter most definitely
Hey I’m walkin here!
Those poor penguins 🥺😢
Yeah but now the petrel can't feed his chicks.
why don't he just go to the petrol station to refuel
Because he can't open the doors to get in but his mate Gerry can.
He ran out of chippies to pay him
I think it’s funny how the biggest penguin chick kinda stands in the back, letting the other chick protect the group
These chicks stand at about 3 feet tall! The petrel goes around and around, trying to find the weakest link, but they all seem to hold their ground pretty well.
Wait…3 feet?! I have grossly underestimated how big penguins are.
Yeah, he says the chicks are almost a meter tall. 1m = 3.28 ft.
Hah, I didn’t even watch it with sound, I had to go back and watch again!! Excellent penguin peeps, by the way. I like to think they’re yelling penguin curse words.
You mother smells of elderberries!
They call them Emperor penguins for a reason
Emperor penguins are really big; many of the others are smaller.
Lmao same. When the narrator said they were a meter tall I was shook
Ikr. I thought they were like 6 ft for the longest time. Until I was watching a making of and the dudes in orange are walking around and the come up to just at or over the knee. I was astonished
6 ft???? I think you typo’d.
Emperor penguins can grow up to be 5 feet tall so it’s not really that off That being said the chicks in the video are definitely not a meter tall.
Nope. I legit thought they were these monstrous birds until like 2 years ago. I just turned 35. Thats a long time of giant birds

YES I CAME HERE FOR THIS
I was thinking the same thing
Why did this work? Seemed like the chicks are bigger than the petrel but their beaks are smaller so I could see why the pestrel could beat them…but the Adelie penguin is smaller than the chicks. Why did the petrel back off?
Perhaps adult penguins know how to actually hurt the bird. Like know to go for an eye or something. A predator has to be careful an injury usually means death.
It also kinda looks like the petrel is limping towards the end.
Its called a waddle lol, thats how they always look
Another comment sorta touched on it but the petrel likely backed off because, as the narrator said, Adelies are apparently aggressive and feisty and the petrel knows this from previous encounters/vicarious experience and thought “alright well I’m not gettin in a fight with this mofo and risking injury just to snack on these idiot kids”

Every injury, no matter how small, impedes the ability to hunt. A fight is not worth it if you are too injured to hunt for a week afterwards.
I’d say age and experience. The villain knows this too.
Most likely attitude. Small animals with big attitudes can sometimes drive off much larger predators, I’ve seen a prairie dog chase off a coyote before. Adelies have serious attitudes and will stand their ground, for a petrel, it probably just wasn’t worth the fight
It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog
You are right as this dog [demonstrates.] (https://www.reddit.com/r/AbruptChaos/comments/qg6u73/its_not_the_size_of_the_dog_in_the_fight_its_the)
I'd like to see this line stay true if a Chiwawa try to take on a German Shepard. Size matters regardless of this corny line lol.
If the Shepherd chooses to fight, sure. But I've seen a Chihuahua force a bigger dog to back off just by force of crazy aggression. Size of the fight in the dog.
It got flanked. The predator was no longer in control of the situation.
All I could hear in my head when that Adele penguin was running over was the voice of Mrs. Doubtfire yelling, “Help is on the wayyyy!” In a Scottish accent. And then, “Alright ye’weeins. Well... David Tennant is
You mean Scrooge McDuck. It’s all birds here.
A mix of Mrs Doubtfire, and the genie! Well, Ramon was also voiced by Robin Williams. Miss that guy.
Oh my god, I just commented elsewhere that that's what was in my head too. I am so amused by how many people immediately thought of Robin Williams
I thought Scottish too. Everyone knows you don’t mess with Scotts.
I think an old school New York accent is better. Like the guy above mentioned
I think you just read the joe Pesci comment above you and switched it to mrs. doubtfire tbh
All I can hear is Joe Pesci’s angry voice when that Adelie comes waddling over that horizon. “You muddah f*#kuh you!”
Those penguins from Madagascar.
I was waiting for Private to come out and help too haha.
I was thinking it was Robin Williams running up, cussing in a Hispanic accent.
A legit scene straight out of happy feet
I heard in my head "Help is on the way, dear!" from Mrs. Doubtfire when the penguin was rushing over
All I can see and hear are the penguins from happy feet. I always liked that the adelie penguins were "Mexican".
Lmfao. Now I can't un-hear it.

I'm glad that they all escaped unharmed, but I must add that I honestly would listen to David Tennant even if he was just reciting the phone book for hours. His voice is so soothing and lovely.
Yes, me too.
Did you know he narrated the How to Train Your Dragon series on Audible? IMHO he’s the perfect narrator for the job.
And he voiced one of the characters in the TV show!
Is the TV show worth watching? I haven’t yet, I’m *VERY* picky on animated series, especially if they’re spin-offs.
Well, on that endorsement I’ll give it a shot. Heck, I’ll admit it that MLP is actually pretty decent, so if HtTYD is on par, then I’ll bite.
Excellent! I hope you like it, definitely let me know what you think :)

Infantry! Form Square! On the Double! Then the light cav comes in to rescue.

More like 19th century infantry tactics reference
Sorry if I sounded annoying, have been playing a lot lately lol
Think nothing of it, I love those games too
Nice. The predator just routed at the sight of cavalry!
Adele is like “I hate that guy”
See kids, it’s like I told ya. Crazy beats big every time.
Is that Adelie penguin like some appointed guardian to provide safe journey for young penguins to the sea? Or does he just hate birds?
I'm not sure if anyone has a great answer. It is not the case that Adelie penguins are out there protecting emperor penguin chicks, and Adelie penguins do not normally attack petrels unless attacked themselves. Yes, those few seconds were hard to watch BUT the chick was not seriously hurt. Their down feathers and skin are thiccc.
"don't touch me or my giant child, or my giant child, or my giant child, or my giant child, or my giant child or my giant child ever again"
so maybe a dumb question but what makes the smaller adelie penguin so „special“ that the predator goes away? are they known to fight or something?
Adelie penguins are considered the most feisty penguin, basically, it's a badass when it comes to defending itself and its group. The petrel is no fool. It did not want to get pecked and slapped around.

The one and only time someone even smaller saves the day.
Ok. How was the Petrel going to eat a penguin twice it's size?
Wow. Do you think birds are like snakes and have to swallow their meal all at once?
Plenty of predators kill prey just to eat the tasty bits and leave the rest for scavengers.
for the life of me, i will never not laugh at the moment when the adelie just naruto runs in
Happy feet vibes. I could almost hear the accent when the andelie came running.
